  1. For having not seen Ghostbusters!
  2. It's really about control and whether or not someone is interested or likes something. As an example, my father would get riled up about Harry Potter because it used "magic" and was therefore evil because magic is evil, the scriptures say so, etc. My mother liked Harry Potter, though, so we were allowed to read it. One day, my mom was watching a Harry Potter movie when my dad walked in. He didn't know what it was, but the bright colors must have interested him because he sat down and watched it and enjoyed it. He found it it was Harry Potter and magically (pun intended) no longer had an issue with Harry Potter because it was "about good vs evil" (translate:" I like this now, so it can't be bad!") And let's face it, there are talking animals and magic in the Bible. Just because one decides to label it "performing miracles" does not make it not magic. Seriously, if another story with a character other than Jesus had did all the "miracles" it would be considered magic. And the only difference would be some variation of "it's not the true power of God/ Not the true path." And that's the danger of religion... of well, a cult like mentality. There is no room for exploration because the goal and means to get to it are all ready defined. Anything outside of that is not only superfluous but detrimental because it leads away from the all important goal.
  3. Blabbidy blah blah blah...

  4. Stormlight has become a monster. I think originally, only Way of Kings was suppose to be over a thousand pages. Now, it looks like one Oathbringer is set, a precedent will be solidified and each Stormlight volume will be a massive doorstopper. This is good in some ways, particularly if they maintain quality. But it does probably add to the time it takes to write an installment. I'm mostly happy so long as there is something coming out about the Cosmere every year. This year in particular seems like a good year for that. But personally, I kinda want an Elantris sequel, and it seems that it's still five years away. I feel really sorry for those that want the Warbreaker sequel!
  5. I understand that, it's completely reasonable.It's this using a "knife"that confuzzles me.
  6. In some cases, dealing with certain people (parents for example) is like an unpleasant chore. It's tedious, annoying, interrupting, and just plain unwanted. It may change in the future, but right now, I imagine your default reaction to having to deal with your parents is more akin to, "Argh, I have to deal with thks right now? Seriously?" Than a mere neutral reaction.
  7. I thought it was clarified that Returned can only be natives of Nalthis?
  8. Of course, we could be the type of old folks that complain about how Brandon was better in the good ol' days.
  9. A good point, though I think part of the issue is finding Warbreaker in Polish.
  10. Ah, that does change things. I take access to Brandon's books for granted. Personally, I have not pointed anyone to the coppermind or Cosmere 101... But a lot of that has to do with the individual I'm introducing the Cosmere to. In your case, I would start the explanation with the Letter found in the epigraphs of Part 2 in Way of Kings, since that is what you guys have ready access to. I would wait to see if they notice Hoid before explaining him as a worldhopper. That's just me. As far as Warbreaker is concerned, explain it as a prequel to some...elements...found in the Stormlight Archives. In fact, Brandon has described them as such. Sure, they don't get the awesome feeling at the end of Words of Radiance, but based on the access of the books in your language, that unfortunately can not be helped.
  11. Space unicorn! Soaring through the stars! Delivering the rainbows all around the world!
  12. As far as the Stormlight 3 delay, this is how the Game of Thrones books started having later and later release dates And maxal, I believe the short story collection this Fall will have a Stormlight novella or two, so that might help you make it to later 2017.
  13. For not having a first born son to sacrifice to the admins for access to... sinister forums.
  14. Wait, like batch processes? That's a whole different kettle of fish! And, in such cases, there really is not much a mere user can do to mess things up... Now a Super User who takes it upon himself to kill processes he thinks are running too long... Grrr...vigilantism in IT never ends well.
  15. Don't be so modest, you users can mess things up quite nicely
  16. Maybe in your company, at mine not so much. But we also do performance testing which catches (or should) those kind of problems before release. Other issues include server configurations, some which reset to something terrible after you deploy new code and restart it! But I best not toot my horn, this week is a release week for my company and Murphy is always looking to make people eat their own words.
  17. Heh.There are definitely limits, but done correctly, the test environment should be able to predict what will happen in Production. But one has to go beyond regression and "happy path" testing.
  18. Nah. I think I briefly explained a couple of things, but even those now get explained during the normal course of reading. Of course, my friend isn't fanatical about the books even if she is a big fan. Someone who hungers for every little bit of information would benefit from knowing the annotations exist.
  19. If you have a first born son, you offer him up to the admins. If you don't, you're out of luck. Sorry.
