  1. I'll have to try that out. It's not too different from the recipe I used, lo, these many years agon. The addition of ginger and soy sauce should work out quite well!
  2. I could be mis-remembering, but don't Seons that were "bonded" to Elantrians that underwent the Seod go "insane"? That Seons can be bonded and the corruption/severance of that bond affects them seems to relate them to the (following is from Stormlight Archives)
  3. It also goes good in Mac n' Cheese! So long as you avoid the low sodium garbage.
  4. Whelp, my car battery is dead, which means I must order pizza now... woe is me!
  5. Think about it like this: Man is incapable of bringing about his own salvation. No matter what you do, no matter how many good works or religious rituals or sacrifices you add to your spiritual resume, you will be found wanting in Judgement and cast out. This is a principle most Christians have because it is the reason for Christ's sacrifice. It is through the grace of God/Christ that individuals can be and are saved. Remember the principle I just stated: being Gandhi is fine but works do not bring about salvation, but the grace of God/Christ through the Cross (with a capital 'C'). You get this grace by being chosen by God and accepting it. That's it. If works could save, then not only would there be no need for the Crucifixion, but you would be compelling God, by your actions, to save you. This brings a host of problems and calls into question God's omnipotence (if you can compel God to bless you or save you through mere ritual or action, you "set yourself up above God"). So, in the end what matters is that God saves you. That's it. The reason does not matter because you can not know why He chooses you (otherwise you could game the system) and all you can really have is faith that God is just and that he can bring about your salvation.
  6. Does not happen. I'd say ask her to dinner and/or a movie. Otherwise, as life goes on you get plagued with "what could have been". Best to find out definitively unless you want to find out how good you are with regrets. And here's a silly face!
  7. As designed It is Mistrunner and Slowshift and all their ilk that I expect to "get it"
  8. Time for a specifically tailored joke! Who knows? You might be pleasantly surprised. Edit to add: If it's too "tailored" (i.e. no one gets it/it seems mean-spirited as a result) I'll add in the reference later... and unlike the TV series LOST, all will be revealed!)
  9. Well, in the past it was imminent nuclear destruction of civilization, before that the various European wars from Napoleon to the World Wars, before that Spain, before that the Fall of the Roman Empire... History happens, I would say we are in a pretty good place right now. Our children probably live in a much more "secure" view of the world we live in, to the point that when they grow up and experience their own history they'll start to belly-ache about how things were safer back when they were kids... continuing the Circle of Life.
  10. You'll never know unless you try... besides, a landlord never evicts someone unless compelled by the law or the tenant does not pay rent. And even then, it's a toss up Sounds like your parents were disappointed to begin with, slept on it, and decided that their parental responsibilities entailed helping you anyway. They did the right thing, it was just too little, too late. It's like what Wit said at the end of WoK:
  11. I like cereal!
  12. So many things to comment on... so little time... I believe I will only focus on a couple. First: Absolutely. I, to simplify the story, was once a "Christian". I had studied the Bible extensively, as well as ancient and modern commentaries. I was an amateur theologian, and I got many atheist friends to concede defeat to me in debates. So now, when some one tells me I should really give "the Word" a chance, that if only I actually read the Bible... that's offensive. Chances are, even with me having not touched it for years, I probably know more about the Bible than you run-of-the-mill pastor. I certainly know more about than you do (you general, not specific... I'm thinking of a specific non-17th Sharder right now). Nothing wrong with being pretentious, but you better be able to back it up. Now, the "everything requires faith". I think that's a false equivalency. There's a difference between accepting something on faith and accepting something... we'll say pragmatically. In the latter, if a postulate is shown to yield incorrect (or even inaccurate) results, we would say that that postulate is false or inaccurate. If I had accepted the postulate on faith, however, that postulate is always right despite evidence for or against. There's at least a third class that you would call "belief" that would be "definitions". These exist simply because we define them. A lot of geometry (and math) is made up of these definitions. They are tools to help us understand the world around us, but they are not the actual world itself. The map is not the country.

  18. Think of entertainment in terms of food: pretty much all foods have nutritional value, but to say that chicken nuggets and ice cream has the same nutritional value as a balanced meal with vegetables and, say, fish is to ignore nutritional basics to your detriment. Just like eating nothing but fast food will wreck havoc on your body, reading nothing but a specific genre or just watching x will mess/skew your mind. The benefits of an open mind only come from a varied and thoughtful consideration of entertainment. You don't want to limit yourself to a few frames of references (unless you're part of a cult, then by definition that's all you want ) It also depends on how developed you are. Spider-man is going to appeal to younger audiences more than Sir Thomas Malory's Le Morte D'Arthur, and they learn about being responsible and not seeking to the villains' level and fighting the good fight! Of course, as you get more sophisticated, you'll start asking questions like: "Is Spider-man actually being responsible? He has the great power, but will constantly spare villains like Carnage that he has to know will escape and will kill LOTS of innocent people. By not stepping up and killing such people, Spider-man is the cause of lots of innocent deaths". At this point, you move on to something more complex like "The Punisher Kills the Marvel Universe" or Joseph Conrad.
  19. You are correct, the Stormfather does bring a particularly strong Highstorm to clash with the Everstorm. I imagine the Stormwardens will have to worry about getting lynched by angry riots. Not only will they have failed to predict the Everstorm, but architecture in Roshar is such that the Everstorm, by coming the opposite direction of a Highstorm, will cause a whole lot of damage in its initial run alone. So, yeah, Harmony help the Stormwardens.
  20. Just don't let it get too dry! Nothing's worse than dry spiritual pot roast.
