  1. I'm guessing this is a limit to do with intent again, so Vin and Kelsier could speak to people because they had not been molded to the intent of the Shard and so could do whatever they needed to do with the power
  2. it is my personal belief that the relationship between spren and the phenomenon they are associated with is essentialy a feedback loop, they do not cause the things, but their presence strengthens the thing in question, which attracts more spren, which strengthens the effect further etc.
  3. it might be worth noting here that Syl says she doesn't like Hoid and that he's "strange", does she sense he's not from Roshar?
  4. also, the reason aluminum is expensive is that it's hard to smelt, discovery of more efficient smelting techniques will likely reduce the price, as it did in real life, although probably not to the same degree as there will be more demand for it then there is in real life.
  5. to answer the question, I'm quite sure that if Syl was killed off somehow, Kaladin would lose his Surgebinding.
  6. Maybe that giant spren is connected with the cognitive aspect of the sea?
  7. I'm pretty sure he hates like, everything, the way Ruin wanted to destroy everything.
  8. Szeth doesn't need to touch the coins, he can use a Reverse Lashing to pull them towards a wall or something like that. but Kelsier would win if he had atium, it's very unlikely Szeth would manage to figure out the trick to beating atium quickly enough. Atium is usually an "I win" button unless the opponent has it too.
  9. I've said about surgebinding, that it has a genetic component only insofar as personality is partially genetically inherited (and also derived from how you were raised as Telcontar noted) Also the Shaod never takes anybody but those of Arlish descent, not even Jindoese people, who may well follow Devoton's intent. So it requires both genetics and the proper actions, and we are surmising on the actions (although it's a very plausible theory).
  10. Gasper Ferrings (those are the breath-storing ferrings) can play a Scadrialian version of Blitzball, from FFX. (for those that don't know, it's a sport played in a big glass bubble filled with water). I think duraluminum ferrings would do better in the pop musician role, storing connection is better for avoiding being mobbed, and tapping will get people to pay attention to you. also the second trilogy is supposed to be about 50 years after AoL (apparently technology is going to develop somewhat quicker then it did in our world).
  11. it's always seemed fairly obvious to me that the Thrill is something unnatural, and probably Odium-linked. And all the characters we see talk about it are Shardbearers, it's never mentioned in Kaladin's viewpoints at all.
  12. the most common theory is Jezrien.
  13. I'm pretty sure he was kidding......
  14. you'd need two or three people to even lift somebody in Shardplate probably, and you wouldn't be able to do it if they were resisting cause the people would just end up with lots of broken bones.
  15. that is offically awesome.
  16. Have you read any of Brandon's novels, if not, you should.
  17. when metals are burned they are essentially destroyed, so I doubt there'd be any problem with it, they'd just have to be extra careful not to leave the metals unburnned for long enough for them to get into the bloodstream. I do wonder if certain kinds of Feruchemical storing might be dangerous though...
  18. Run! Run while you - ALL GLORY TO THE ADMINS!
  19. currently reading Way of Shadows by Brent Weeks (taking a break from Jim Butcher).
  20. yeah, King T. implied that.
  21. me, I'm convinced Hoid is a Time Lord. it's the only thing that makes sense.
  22. well obviously it's a situational weapon, but I think all weapons are situational when you come right down to it. actually I wonder if you could keep them in an aluminum casing of some kind and rig it so the casing would break open when it hit the ground, then it would only be possible to trigger then after they'd already been thrown.
  23. Yes! Shallan and Szeth are the two characters whose backstory I most want to see.
  24. Currently reading Summer knight by Jim Butcher, yes I am on a Jim Butcher spree.
  25. Or one of the Mythbusters crew.
