  1. Whether he is the Stormfather or not, the entity Gavilar was working with was also a proven liar.
  2. You raise an interesting point. I believe Dalinar can view the visions whenever/wherever he wants, but if he wants to show them to someone else, a Highstorm needs to be near them. So, it's technically possible for Gavilar to have been in a vision, but I'm not sure if Dalinar is able to do that because he progressed pretty far in his Oaths or if he just needed to know he could do it. I mean Gavilar isn't even really Bonded to the Stormfather, that really doesn't seem like it should be possible.
  3. Death is lighter than a feather, duty is heavier than a mountain.
  4. I'm not really sure where to land on whether that is the Stormfather or not, but I figure I'll throw in a couple of observations. First, if that is indeed the Stormfather and he did lie to Gavilar, then he's equally capable of lying to Dalinar. The whole thing where he doesn't seem to know stuff until Dalinar does it or really pins him down on a point could be him withholding information, but being incapable of stopping Dalinar from figuring certain things out. Second, the whole "I won't trust the Kholins" again might be a misdirection for someone/something elses benefit. Recall that the Sleepless from the OB interlude didn't want the doomed crew from learning too much lest they reveal certain secrets in Akinah to someone/something that could interrogate them or their cognitive shadows upon death. He may have been trying to obfuscate who his next candidate was, as he had stated that Dalinar had potential. A point in favor of this being a fake Stormfather is that it would not be impossible to fake the visions. It always occurred to me that the visions seem like extremely lifelike Lightweavings. The people who see the visions move around in the physical world exactly as they do in the visions, so someone could be deceived into believing a Lightweaving is one of the visions. Dalinar can't be deceived like that at the point he is at because he seems to have learned to see the visions without moving, but Gavilar may have never learned to do that. The Stormfather might have sent him some visions, but gleaned that he wasn't a good candidate and moved on. Then someone else manipulates Gavilar into thinking that he's talking to the Stormfather and feeds him bad information.
  5. It may not seem relevant now, but I think all Cosmere books/stories will be relevant to a certain degree. Do you need to read all of them to understand what's going on? No. But, even the smaller stories seem to get more and more relevant with each book, especially with respect to the secret projects from the Kickstarter.
  6. The real troll answer would be Shallan. I don't trust a thing I see in her PoVs anymore, so techinically, I don't know her well at all.
  7. I have a feeling the eye color based class system is beginning to erode. Jasnah is already taking steps towards changing Alethkar's class system by outlawing slavery and Dalinar even started chipping away at it when he made Kaladin the captain of his guard back in WoR.
  8. I just noticed this when checking the Arcanum for some WoBs; the sample chapters that Brandon has been narrating on Youtube are in the Acranum as text. Although I'm a big fan of audiobooks, I know some others are not and would prefer to read the chapters themselves instead of having them read to them. You can find them at https://wob.coppermind.net/
  9. It's been a while since I read the prose version, but I recall running into similar issues. I think I converted it into an epub or mobi at the time(can't remember if I was using Kindle or Nook) and it just didn't work well. I then tried converting it into a pdf which worked better with my e-reader at the time. Though I feel like it still wasn't great and just ended up reading it on my phone, which wasn't exactly fun either as it involved a lot of scrolling and zooming in or out, but hey it worked.
  10. Technically, there could be hundreds, thousands, maybe even an infinite amount of different types of spren that could be created by combining Investiture from different shards. And then there's also the possibility that Sja-Anat can change(corrupt/enlighten/whatever) any of those to something different. As it stands on Roshar, there are really 12 different types of Radiant spren; the 9 from ordinary orders and the 3 Godspren for Bondsmiths. Then there's ostensibly 9 additional spren that can form Nahel bonds; versions of the 9 spren from ordinary orders that Sja-Anat corrupts.
  11. Yea, given that the 5th ideal doesn't seem to confer something significant like the previous ideals, people have theorized that the Stormlight efficiency upgrade will be big. At least, assuming there isn't more to the 5th ideal than we know which is entirely possible.
  12. I didn't mean the Sixth of the Dusk sequel, I just meant something closer to where that's at in the timeline than where Misborn and Stormlight are currently at. Though it's always possible, and that cover on the left with the moon and the waves crashing around the person looks promising in that respect.
  13. I was watching the new WoB shardcast from Sunday and just about lost it when they got to the one where Brandon said there would be a Cosmere book far in the future like Sixth of the Dusk released before Stormlight 5. They were confident that was a mistake and I'm thinking it was not.
  14. That's not necessarily true, it works with diminishing returns. The longer TLR did the atium trick, the more he needed to stay young.
  15. If I understand that WoB correctly, Nicrosil can't work like that. For ordinary Feruchemy, you're storing a specific attribute for a period of time at a specific volume. With copper feruchemy, you're taking a specific chunk of memory and storing it in the coppermind. The limitation there being that the memory degrades like normal if it is taken out of the coppermind. Unlike memories, Allomantic and Feruchemical abilities don't seem to degrade over time for individuals. So, unless there's some sort of degradation to the Investiture somewhere in the process of compounding, the ability should only ever get permanently stronger when compounding. I imagine there's likely some sort of upper limit to the strength someone could have, likely TLR was at or close to it. But, I don't see how the relative strength of the Allomancer/Feruchemist is going to hold anyone back for long given they have plenty of Nicrosil.
  16. Yea the way he answers that tells me it's possible, though not at the convivence level of an Elsecaller(I was thinking more along the lines of an Allomantic ability). Though this might have some serious utility in making perpendicularities on worlds that don't have them or to make/reinforce a beachhead on a hostile world. I do still think it would take enough resources that it wouldn't be a super common occurrence.
  17. Is there WoB on that? Seems like that would take a serious amount of Nicrosil to pull off.
  18. Unless there's a viable metal we don't know about, possibly an Atium alloy, there's no currently known way besides the Perpendicularities.
  19. It's been a bit since I read the relevant Stormlight book where this was explained, but I remember this being the exact opposite. Syl had been around during the days of the original Radiants and fell into a deep coma following the loss of her Radiant. Following the Recreance, the Stormfather created 10 Honorspren who then created more as the years went by. Syl was found and it was a big deal because she was the only one NOT created by the Stormfather, the only original Honorspren to survive the Recreance. The Stormfather refers to her as "Daughter" because of the part of him that is Tanavast. Again, I'm not 100% on that, but that's what I recall.
  20. Stormlight 5 will be 10000 pages long, the bulk of which will be the requisite "Hoid telling Kaladin a story", but it's just him narrating the entirety of the Wheel of Time books to Kaladin to motivate him out of whatever slump he's in.
  21. Amaram didn't specify what Restares was "right" about. It's possible that Amaram was referring to something more general, like how he said that they needed trained Shardbearers in the days to come. Though, it's also possible it can be taken at face value and Restares did advise Amaram to do that. Even if he didn't, and Kaladin remembers Amaram mentioning Restares in connection with the choice he made to kill his squad, Kaladin is going to be pretty pissed if he encounters Kelek and he is identified as Restares. I have a feeling that will be something that tests Kaladin's commitment to his Oaths.
  22. This basically boils down to the question of whether Vin was blocked from compounding Sazed's metalmind because she's not a Feruchemist AND she's not Sazed or just because she's not Sazed. I'm leaning more towards the former, but I'm not sure if there are any WoBs on that or not. From a narrative standpoint, my instincts tell me compounding would be too accessible if it's just an identity issue. But, if medallions and Hemalurgy are going to be increasingly commonplace, compounding is going to be pretty accesible anyways.
  23. I'm relatively certain there's a bit more to that than making Steel Inquisitors scary. I don't think they could get that enhanced version of Allomantic vision without the spikes going through their eyes. Can't imagine Kelsier is walking around with one in his eye for aesthetic reasons, even for Kelsier that's a bit much.
  24. Actually, that may be a bit more feasible than you'd think. People only need to wear aluminum hats to protect against emotional Allomancy. So, if a Kandra could surround its brain with aluminum, I would think it would have the same effect. And if Milan was being serious, they can put their brain pretty much anywhere in their bodies.
