"Would it be possible for a Gold Shadow to posses a person (willingly or unwillingly)? I'm thinking that because a gold shadow is so believable, that it wouldn't be hard for the body to accept this identity for a time". He replied with: "this theory has a lot of merit". Gold has been so ignored by allomacy. I wonder if all gold users can gleam knowledge or skills from their Gold Shadow (like Shai from Emp Soul). Maybe you need Durralimin to burst the ability? Maybe you'd need to be a savant? Could gold function like the future seeing birds from First of the Sun? There are so many possibilities here. It is also possible that buring too much gold could scramble your identity if you became a savant. Maybe the two divergances would intermingle against your will to some extent.

Lightweavers seem to be more intune with Cultivation. They speak one oath and then self cultivate truths about themselves. Even the lightweaver's mnemonic abilities resemble cultivation. Shallon keeps the images of others and can reproduce them herself. We dont know if all the surges are of Honour, but Lightweavers seem to lean far closer to Cultuvation.

I have a reddit message WoB stating that Feruchemy was more of a gift than an accident for the Terris population. he also said he would expand on this in later books.

How exactly is the True Desolation different from previous ones
teknopathetic replied to Arcoss's topic in Stormlight Archive
This desolation is different for a number of reasons. 1. The people are without Honour. 2. Cultivation doesn't seem to care. 3.The spren are resentful. 4. The Dawnshards, whatever they are, seem to be lost. The Dawnsingers , if different, are lost as well. 5. The heralds are not preparing the people for war. 6. The surges are feared. 7. The Everstorm might be a novel thing. 8. Many of the Gem Animals are now extinct or about to be extinct. 9. Many of the symbiotic animals like Ryshadium and the Stormliught Bird appear to be nearly lost. It is sort of bleak.... Especially considering humanity barely won all the previous desolations. These 9 or so setbacks make it seem like The Stormlight Archive might be the story of how a planet falls. This is in contrast to Elantris which is about a planet that already fell. I really don't think Roshar will pull through. My gut tells me that we will see the people of Roshar leave the planet and settle on other words. -
Why is Elendel Basin too cold for Southerners?
teknopathetic replied to DeadFencer's topic in Mistborn
I assumed that the Northern Scadrial folk had more innate investiture and therefor were more resistant to the cold. Northern Scadrial has Feruchemical blood as well as Lerasium bead blood mixing around the general population. Everyone has a bit of "breath" to a certain extent. Southern Scadrial almost completely lacks this enhancement. -
Could the Northern Scandrials have a lot more innate investiture in general? Investiture keeps people healthy and protected from the elements. Since the southern Scadrialites don't have much investiture in their bloodlines, they'd have less innate protection from the elements, i think.

[M:Secret History Spoilers] One-Eye Spike Man
teknopathetic replied to CaptainRyan's topic in Mistborn
*Im sorry for my English. I speak English as a second language.* I wonder if Kelsier's body could be a combination of Soul Stamping and Hemalurgy. Sel is mentioned A LOT, Sel is next to Scadrial on the Cognitive Sphere, and Sel happens to be the place where people know how to attach souls to bodies. How would this work? 1. Shai the Forger is hunting for Hoid. I have a reddit WoB that he plans to use her again at some point. Shai's planet border's Kelsier's planet which really adds some plausibility. Kelsier also only has contact with Shai's planet as of yet. We know the two planets have a lot of contact in their histories. SInce Shai has the same hatred as Kelsier, and the two planets have been shown on screen to interact, AND Kelsier needs the exact magic system outlined in The Emperor's Soul. I think we can say that Shai helping Kelsier is not impossible. 2. Shai is old, but we have seen world hoppers from the book Elantris. People age strangely in the Cosmere when Worldhopping happens. If characters from Elantris are alive in Stormlight, then Shai can be alive during the events of Mistborn. 3. Hemargy might be able to store a version of Soul Stamping. It is said that Hemelergy is one of the most interesting arts to the Cosmere. A spike could be charged with a Soul Stamp equivalent ability and used off world. This would be a work around for Sel magic not functioning far away from Sel. 2b. It also might be possible to attach one of those 'blue strings' to a body, thus linking a body to Sel that is technically not on Sel. 3. Ashravan, the Soul stamped King, needed to keep a metal tablet at all times to maintain his complex soul stamp. The metal tablet held the complex weave of stamps and connections that Shai had created. Kelsier's Spike could be a hemelergic version of that soul-script tablet. The oddity of Spike'd Kelsier could be solved if his spike were actually more akin to a Soul Stamp Tablet and not a true Scadrial spike. We know that at least one other world can use spikes now. My guess would be Sel is at least one of the worlds that has learned how. 5. We learn in BoM that Kandra can grow flesh and attach that grown flesh into another body. Perhaps a Kandra could grow flesh around Kelsier's bones (which were saved). Shai could stamp the bones to believe this flesh belonged to Kelsier's body. Shai's stamp could add scars to make the body seem to be Kelsier's. The scars are the most telling for me. Kelsier's scars defined him, and seeing those scars makes me think someone grew him and stamped him a new body. Conclusion. Shai wouldn't need to craft a new Soul. She would just have to create a vessel so fitting for Kelsier that his soul would simply reattach. Shai is the only person we have seen attempt such an event, and Mistborn is trying to leach information about Sel into the plot. I think Shai is a likely crew member.- 77 replies

I wonder if this can be taken as more evidence that the shard Endowment was taken or re-taken up rather recently? Magic seems to have been in lockdown until 500 some years ago when the first returned showed up. No magic seems to have been in use until the conquistadors arrived and drove out the Pahn Kahl. Perhaps someone took up the shard then? Or maybe they awakened the shard somehow? Where do the immigrants acquire the word Edgli from? As well, the people of Nathalis seem to have known the name of their Shardholder in living memory. Someone managed to name those flowers after her in the last 500 years (unless sit is a Pahn Kahl word). The only reason we know Leras - Lerassium is because the Lord Ruler held the power. So I think it makes sense to assume that someone either became the shard recently or interacted with Shardpools/wells in the last 500ish years.

Aluminum (possible spoilers of various magic systems)
teknopathetic replied to Stormgate's topic in Cosmere Discussion
Wait, aluminum can cure a shade touch when burned? Is it possible that the people on Threnody have mixed up the names of aluminum and silver? just like how Sel calls aluminum by the name ralcolist? -

The visions do show us the end of the world. I know those visions were said to be only one possible future, but maybe we are reading about a doomed planet. -
Hoid/Wit - Bunny and Chick Story??
teknopathetic replied to Shardfan13's topic in Stormlight Archive
I really like the idea of Roshar being some sort of refugee hotspot. Perhaps Honor or Cultivation allowed easier travel to Roshar? I could see cultivation being the sort of shard to try and lure immigrants, farmers, and settlers. My original thought was that humans had fled from Braize, but I guess 'peoples' could have fled from multiple locations. The stormlight would be a good drawing point (re: a certain swordfighting teacher). -
There is a new WoB stating that the Moon Scepter is some sort of Rosetta Stone. You can use the artifact to translate or understand the 'form/aons/shapes' of different magic systems on Sel. A couple of thoughts on this: 1) Do many Selish cultures have a totem that can translate 'runes' between dominions of magic? Fjorden is said to have a magic sword that was wielded by a once great king. Does this sword possess a similar ability? 2) What makes the Moon Scepter work? Maipon talks about moon rocks that fell from the sky and that inspired the art of Forging. Do these moon rocks grant the power? Is the moon scepter a splinter like a Seon? What makes the Moon Scepter function? Also, would a forgery of the Moon Scepter also function? We do have one of those forgeries floating around. 3) Why did Hoid want the Moon Scepter? Did he plan on using it to translate other magics on Sel? Did he plan on bringing it to another world? 4) Can the Moon Scepter be used on other planets? Could the Scepter grant you the ability to adjust Aeons to function on Roshar or Threnody? 5) Can the Moon Scepter understand other forms of investiture? Would a skilled scientist be able to scan other magic systems and perhaps discover new commands, oaths, or alloys? I find the existence of this artifact to be especially interesting. Whoever had this artifact (or copy) might be able to 'hack' the different magic systems with ease. I really hope we can get some more information on this.

I think shrugging off Bleeder as "insane" is not the proper way to approach this. Bleeder wasn't insane. In the novel it is stated over and over that Bleeder is too precise to be "insane". Sazed assumed Bleeder is insane for two reasons: Bleeder (should) have only one spike AND Bleeder's actions do not make rational sense to Harmony's intent. We discover that Bleeder has two spikes, and that she is of sound mind. She has decided that it is permissible to kill people to achieve her goals, but that isn't the same thing as being insane. Kelsier felt the same way, didn't he? Kelsier and Bleeder are virtually the same person, but this time around we are anti-kelsier; we are the law. Maybe it is just my interpretation, but I thought the point of the novel was to show that Bleeder wasn't insane. The whole cast assumed she was crazy, but then we discovered that Bleeder simply had a different 'intent'. We find out that Bleeder is actually someone we know, someone the audiance should care about, and someone who sis capable of deep emotional empathy and spiritual connection. She was a person, despite her famed reputation as being 'soulless' among the Kandra. And some argue that Sazed is moral because Sazed has a contract with the Kandra. Do we really accept that? When the Lord Ruler made the contract with the Kandra, TLR said "follow my contract or be mentally disabled zombies". Is that really a valid contract? Do you think the terms of that contract would hold up in modern courts? Do you think Sazed should be able to force that contract on a living creature? If I made you sign a contract at gun-point, you are not making that contract as a free agent. There is nothing 'just' about that. There is nothing 'autonomous' about that. Maybe yes? But it isn't a clear yes. And personally, if I was under such a contract, I would work to destroy it. Kelsier and the ska were under a similar social contract: work or die. Kelsier had no qualms killing those who worked for the lord ruler. We forgave him, didn't we? But not Bleeder? She killed those who worked for Preservation, or those who were indirectly agents of preservation. She took his eyes, his ears, and his mouth. How else can she fight? Again, I am not saying that Kelsier or Bleeder were just. But neither were completely unjust or completely mad. They had different intents.

Full Spoilers. I found the ending of SoS to be very disturbing. Bleeder was mentally raped by the spike that was forcefully slid into her body. I'm not saying that she was a moral person, but mindraping someone is pretty horrific. Im not even saying that Sazed (and co) had a better option, but i just dread approaching that scene again. This scene has really split my mind on Sazed.I know his death would be a disaster for the cosmere, but I think it would be just from Bleeder's point of view. This exactly mimics the moral position of the Lord Ruler. He was awful for reasonable reasons. But still, he had to be taken out. Kelsier did horrid things to take him out, just like Bleeder. And to be fair, Bleeder and Kelsier had to die as well. Basically, I think Bleeder was right, even if it is bad for the cosmere. Just a thought.

Shadows of Self Tour: London Forbidden Planet signing
teknopathetic replied to ParadoxicalZen's topic in Events and Signings
Elantris mentions that Fjordel was once ruled by a king with a magic sword. i wonder if other dominions on Sel have rosetta-stone artifacts, or if the Moon Sceptre is unique. i was the one who asked Brandon on reddit about the Moon Scepter and the proximity problem. His answer today really makes it seem like Hoid will be able to use some Forms on other worlds. Hurray! -
The religion sounds like it is basedof the Ecology of Whitesand. We dont know much about their beliefs, but the night/day contrast in the story is obviously a reference in light of the SoS events.

I think it is because of the new information we got in SoS. The ars states that special tinyweenie powers form when you mix investiture types in a humanoid. Wayne and the Lightweavers are very similar. Wayne can mimic voices and accents to a shallon-esq level. No specific investiture is responsible. Its the run-off of a chemical reaction according to the SoS ars. Healing feruchemy plus timebubbles accidentally creates mnemonic passive abilities. So, if someone asked if Wayne had mnemonic abilities because of allomancy, that wouldnt be right. Wayne has the ability accidentally as a biproduct of holding two magic systems within himself. Pattern doesnt grant a memory enhancement himself. His form of investiture is involved, but actually, the ability forms when one surge (or both) react with some other source of magic inside the surge binder. The details are fuzzy on this point. Perhaps all surge binders have two investitures, so in this case the powers and passive-teeniewinie things are harder to parse and seperate formally.

Paired Shards and Honour's Opposite
teknopathetic replied to Jo and the Bush's topic in Cosmere Discussion
Wouldnt the opposite of endowment be cultivation? Endowment is giving something and not expecting anything in return, while cultivation is giving something in order to wreep the benefits later. Endowment is bestowing a true gift, while cultivation is take-baksies. Cultivation treats people as a means, while endowment treats people as an end in it self. The returned dont need to give up their breathe. They can endow someone else, but they dont need to. -
The humans on this planet were created artificially by Ruin and Preservation. Preservation had the ability to read these new minds via spikes, and Ruin could read minds if there was a spike. Humanoids on other planets, as far as we know, were not directly made this way. There isnt a direct link to their minds. WoB on the issue is located here http://www.theoryland.com/intvmain.php?i=708#3
-
she wouldnt say "your father" meaning a priest. Wax is a pathian. The priest is not his spiritual father.
-
what is strange is that Ruin and Preservation can commincate with humans because humans were created by those shards. A metal from another shard should not grant telepathic abilities on this planet.
-
im about 11% serious. But im still not sure of the title. Self control? The shadow of Wax's past? Nothing jumps to mind specifically. The shadows made by burning different metals never appeared, which i was sure was going to happened.
-
the only unique metal we know of is ralcolist from Sel. The book is called Shadows of SEL-f . Coincidence? I dont think there should be too many foreign metals that are unique incomposition. Trellism sounds like Whitesand (we publically know that there is a dayside and a night side, and the planet doesnt spin), but only Sel has been shown to have a unique metal. My money is on a Ralcolist spike.
-
im personally of the belief that the metal is from Sel. 1) Sel is the only known world where there is an unique metal. Sel has ralcolist which is known to be unforgable. it has unique properties. True, we have no idea if all shards produce unique metals in some way, but there really shouldnt be loads of unique, naturally forming metals out there. 2) sel has no living shards. it is possible that metal from Sel would be running blind, since the Dor has no conciousness left. Maybe Harmony is blind to all off-world unique metals, but the Dor being soulless now seems like a fitting answer. 3) the shardpool described in the book was sounding a lot like the blue pools of Elantris. 4) the book is called Shadows of SELf. the title makes no sense in terms of the actual story. All we know is that there is another world intervening. a shadow approaching. 5) Autonomy makes sense in terms of helping Paalm get freedom. But autonomy shoukdnt really intervene in the affairs of other planets. that would seem to go against the original intent. True, people could use metal from that world on their own accord, but still, it seems odd. Also, ive read the book where Autonomy is found, and nothing jumps to mind metal-wise. There very well could be something as we only get a small glimpse, but still.
