  1. Truthwatcher abiliries might mirror those found in the book Sixth of Dusk. In Sixth of Dusk, one ability is to see possible locations of your death in the immediate future. There is no shard on that world, yet this ability is manifest. My gut is that Renarin can see possible futures, but he will never know which ones are too late to stop.
  2. I wish the question didn't say 'cosmere'. There could be fish on Roshar that interact with rhythms and technically that would count. We can easily guess rhythms are important to other things on Roshar. Waaaa
  3. I'm not sure Brandon would be a fan of the simple "evil because evil" explanation. And again, there is a WoB saying Odium isn't the platonic form of evil or anything.
  4. Well, that's hardly fair. WoB says that Ruin and Odium would be very compatible. And that Cultivation would be the most compatible with Ruin. Every shard CAN be combined, but some combinations are easier to balance than others. The fact that hatred is compatible with EVERYTHING makes me think that we have oversimplified that shard's intent. Odium is not hatred. Odium is 'hatred because of what other people have done or said". There needs to be an impetus there. WoB says that Odium is NOT pure evil. I think we need to take that into account if we want to figure something new out.
  5. It is odd that ALL the crypics were killed. You'd think a few Lightweavers would have been killed naturally, and their war-hardened spren would have returned to the cognitive realm. Were all the Lightweavers of that particular time alive? AND 9/10 Heralds? Why was the last desolation so damnation easy?
  6. Odium doesn't mean hate. Odium means "the repugnance and hatred of other people due to their opinions, actions, or beliefs". To me, the intent Odium is actually fairly compatible with Honour. A positive reading of Odium could be that Odium hates the people who do not act appropriately in the Cosmere. Now, 'appropriately' could have a huge spread of interpretations: people who sin, people who act against their intent, people who don't do exactly as Odium wishes, etc etc. In Stormlight, we have a certain probably-herald doing just this. He is completely wrapped up in judging and hating the people who do not follow the letter of the law. Odium and Honour are actually quite compatible. They are nothing like Ruin and Preservation mixing it up. What I find interesting is that in one of Dalinar's vision's Honour is absolutely SHOCKED that Odium would come after him. Honour knew that Odium had killed 2+ shards already. Why would Honour be surprised to find Odium at his doorstep? Possible reasons Honour was surprised by Odium. 1) Honour knew Odium per-shattering, and felt their bond was secure. 2) Honour's intent dd not clash with Odium, so he thought he was secure. 3) Honour felt he has not acted in fashion that would upset Odium, so he though he was secure. -I think that hypocrisy might be what makes Odium target shards. What if Odium hates shards that are hypercritical? Odium's strength would lie in using holder's inconsistencies against them! And we know that what causes a shard great pain is for it to act against their own intent. Perhaps this leaves an opening that Odium can exploit quite easily? It would explain a lot of what we see in the Cosmere. Odium didn't destroy Sel; he just destroyed the shards. Odium doesn't have a blind and target-less hatred at all. We have a WoB that none of the shards are "evil". And that Hoid has an opinion of Odium, but that some people might not agree with that opinion. I think my theory would open up that "non-evil" understanding of Odium.
  7. The Shin believe that all stones are unholy and should not be tred upon. Well, the stones uni Uratheru are not unholy for some reason (Szeth mentions this)
  8. I just don't think Hoid is very powerful in an "active sense". Sure you can't kill him, but he also can't really kill you. He was at the shattering, but seemingly gained nothing. If you've read the Dragonsteel chapters, he seemed ineffectual there as well. Some people posit he isn't really a person, but a living fictional character (his obsession with stories). I think he might be something akin to Nightblood, but geniously made by Hoid's former master (who The current Hoid borrowed his name from). Is Nightblood powerful? Yes. But attributing him a pedestal of most powerful being? No. His limitations are too great. I feel Hoid, once understood, would be seen in a similar light. Hoid is powerful, timely, and ingenious, but Hoid can't effect things properly. Or atleast, Hoid can't do this until he achieves some goal. Hoid can effect history and the fates of worlds. So yes, Hoid is powerful. But not in a sense of intent or physical action. Wit tells stories. That change the world. Hoid tells a story about Fleet. Fleet was a man who tried to outrun a storm. Kalidan asks if Fleet was real. Hoid replies "as real as I am". Take Shae though. She can be seen as the most effective character. She can change the identity of anyone or anything. Shae, given time, could conceivably grant investiture to new people. Marsh might be the strongest in terms of burst-power. And WoB states an Elantrian with home turf advantage would be capable of the most amazing battle feats. Kris is the most knowledgeable character in the cosmere. We know nothing of her investiture, but she's probably very old which implies she has something. Hoid is the hardest to kill and capture.
  9. I saw a WOB stating that full Elantrians in Elantris would be capable of pretty amazing feats and that Brandon might bet on them if there was ever a full on Allstar grudgematch. I personally think Shae is likely to be the most powerful person in the cosmere. She may not be (as it stands) the most burst-power individual, but her ability to re-write pasts could be VERY effective. Assuming she found any other magic system to tap-into, sh could grow exponentially. I also asked Brandon a question, and his WOB was that The Moon Scepter was taken by Hoid because it somehow assisted with using Sel based magic. It would be possible for her to trackdown Hoid, and level-up as it were. I think Hoid is not super powerful. He always mentions his birth and the anti-violence restrictions on him. There is a character in Whitesand that WoB states is "the most Csmereically aware" person. Even more so than Hoid.Though I have read that story, and there is no hint as to how she would ever ascend to that status. She is fairly normal, almost like a Rosharian Scholar, in the book. Shrug. But knowledge is power.
  10. Could the Diagram be a Cognitive realm leap, not a physical one? Think about forgery. When Shai is trying to create a forgery seal Shai had to know what the object believed to be possible or likely. in order to create a new seal, Shai had to have some idea of what the object itself believed cognatively. Every object has an idea of what it is and what it can or cannot do. Shai created forgeries by researching the history of the item. But what if there was a faster way of doing this? What if you could be so cognitively intelligent that you KNEW the history of an object and what that object believed to be likely to occur in the future? What if T. was reading what the planet believed to be the most likely future based on the planet's cognitive idea of itself? If you could read what the planet believed to be most probable, you could predict a lot of things. Somewhere the knowledge of what Roshar believes itself to be is out there. WOB has confirmed that planets do have a cognitive identity. Is it more likely that T. was a cognitive genius on that day, not a logical one? I don't understand how T. could have made the diagram with logical intelligence. T. has proven himself to be an idiot when it comes to other people when he is experiencing a smart day. He couldn't even guess how the people closest to him would react to the idea of intolectual genocide. How can he predict people on a global scale when his ability to understand others becomes so weak?
  11. I asked Brandon this question and got an interesting response "Just one question for you if you have the time. Mr.T has his emotional intelligence inversely attached to his logical intelligence. in the physical realm, this means that on his emotional days, he is functionally a blithering idiot. The physical realm is more logic oriented, so that makes sense. However, would this inverted intelligence express itself DIFFERENTLY perhaps in the cognitive or spiritual realm? In the world of forms, emotion, and identity, could weepy/drooly Mr.T express some unique insight inside of Shadesmaar?" His Response: This is a theory with merit. ______ Now I am wondering what would happen if you got a blithering T. into Shadesmaar. Is there a design he might be able to craft there as well? Would he understand the flow of the Spren and their realm to the same spooky degree? On his super non-smart but emotional days, what would he be able to create in the cognitive or spiritual realms?
  12. Shai would likely be able to Soulstamp Kelsier back to life. If she had access to his cognitive shadow, who knows what she could sew together.
  13. A child of the Lord Ruler may have been let in on the Southern Hemisohere, may have been chased out by an angry papa, and may have had the theoretical training to get the Southern Continent up and running. I did read a WOB that the had some mistings in the Southern Continent. A child of the Lord Ruler would explain all of that.
  14. I still think it is more likely that the Moon Rocks were bits of Andolisium. But what happened to Dominion and Devotion is such a mystery. The shards' deaths seem to have effected the world on such a small scale?

  17. Ruin had the clear goal of ending all things. He wanted to create a world devoid of the life he and preservation had created. His goal was easy to understand. Odium wants to (likely) murder all the other shards. But, look at Sel. Sel lost two shards. You'd think there would be massive devastation on a scale similar to Shadows for Silence, but the people of Sel seem mostly unaffected. Odium 's hatred scars aren't fully visible on Sel. Doesn't that seem odd? The only remnants of his hatred maybe would be Elantris being empty, and the shu'darath religious scism. But - that's not nearly as bad as a full-blown completed desolation. So what gives? Why does Odium want to obliterate Roshar when Sel was (seemingly) left fully functional? Is it personal? Has Odium given into his intent more so now than in Sel? And why is Odium acting so much like Ruin these days?
  18. Could Dominion or Devotion be on the moon instead of directly on the planet? This would possibly explain why Sel is do hard to world hop to (according to WOB)
  19. True, but Hoid is collecting investiture, and I doubt he'd run off with it if it wasn't useful.
  20. Shai said her people worshipped moon rocks, and that the original soul stamps were carved from them. I asked Brandon if the moon rocks perhaps were "an out" for the proximity problem, but he basically said no. The Moon Sceptre however has some powerful ability. My guess is that the Sceptre acts as a Standard for the Dominion of The Rose Empire. Dominion is a pretty fickle shard, but if you had something that was outright the symbol of a particular 'Nation" or 'Dominion', then maybe you could use your investiture when in close proximity to the symbol of the nation. Maybe the Moon Sceptre thinks it IS the Rose Empire, and it's cognitive image is strong enough to make anywhere in the Cosmere part of the Rose Empire. I am drawing from the ancient roman belief in their War Standards they carried into battle. I also asked Brandon "I feel like Shay represents the (potentially) most powerful and game-changing character in the Cosmere. (blah blah investiture rules, but she's pretty damnation smart). Considering the timeline of the cosmere, and the fact that Shay is the only character we've seen declare a vendetta against Hoid, is it possible we might see her again? Has her work rippled in the Cosmere? Does she interest you anymore with the current (odium based) events of the Cosmere?" He Replied: And yes to all of your questions. (Though I am very hesitant to do another story about her in the same way, as the novella is so good as it is, and a follow-up would have to be really stellar.)
  21. I asked Brandon on reddit why Hoid took the Moon Sceptre, and i asked if the Moon Rocks were involved in extending Sel's proximity issue with magic. His response. I'll talk about this eventually, but it IS related to the proximity problem--just not in the way you're assuming.
  22. My Question on Reddit I've always wondered why Hoid stole the Moon Sceptre from The Rose Empire. He is collecting investiture, so it must be pivotal. Is it possible that the Moon Sceptre is connected directly to Dominion and Devotion's investiture (maybe via the moon-rocks?). If you have the Moon Sceptre, you can get around the pesky proximity problem of the magic system(s)? And the Response I'll talk about this eventually, but it IS related to the proximity problem--just not in the way you're assuming.
  23. I don't see evidence that these fish have bonded with Spren. All we know is that some of the more complex animals can bond (Casmfiends, Greatshells). But tiny fish, unintelligent fish? They don't seem cognitive enough to form a bond. And i did mean highstorm. Ooops. The highstorm could be Honours attempt at helping the people (which is why he was so much weaker and easier to kill).
  24. Yes, Preservation lost power do to helping the human races on Sel. Cultivation seems to have done the same for the Horn Eaters in some sense. The Fact everyone calls it The Old Magic makes me think it was something that was once strong and disappeared. Well, the only major massive event we can pin to Cultivation is the creation of the Horn Eater homeland (the legend about the items for cultivation being brought into the mountains). _______ Side note. Can anyone tell me where the Horn Eaters live? I forget what their mountain range is called.
