I alwayss thought Devotion created that city bedore she died so that magic would still be able to help the people.

The planet seems to soak up the UV somehow. The Daysiders have pale skin and no visible signs of sunburns. Heck, they even don't wear sunglasses or hats most of the time. I have two guesses: 1. The planet is redirecting the UV to Darkside somehow. 2. The omnipresent clouds (as seen in the Graphic Novel) are somehow absorbing most of the UV radiation. My gut tells me that water is invested in this planet, and the clouds are much more important than we think. If you've seen the Cloud Faces post then you've seen more evidence of water magic there too.

I dont think that all Darksiders can do it, but the Kings of Darkside might covet the ability. But, I think the Darksider's on Dayside have been using the ability. The criminal syndicate had WAAAY too much information on Khriss and the goings-on surrounding her flight from Darkside. They had information that they in know way should have possessed. (And yes, I have read the Prose Version)

We also know the Autonomy is the only shard showing any influence there directly. There is no second shard on the sun or on the moon or anything like that. Autonomy is the only shard directly influencing events (though minor interactions are always possible).

unknown shards We haven't known Trell yet
teknopathetic replied to Sam Script's topic in Cosmere Discussion
Autonomy could desire that his people never feel the outside influence of other shards. Autonomy could value the autonomy of himself and his people over the autonomy of the Cosmere. A person's personality filters the intention of a shard, and Autonomy might have been a title solipsistic. -
Brandon lived in Korea while he came up with this novel. I live in Korea now and "Aish" is a semi-rude way of saying "dammit". Aish-ja is the ruder version. Aisha seems to be in the middle ㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋ

The faces pop up at key moments. One face is when Kenton finds the 6th orb. One face pops up when Kriss is walking to the Sand Master Temple. One shows up when Kenton goes to his Father's room for the first time and he confronts Drile. One is watching when Kriss and Kenton get to the main city. And one is watching when Kriss and Kenton start talking about Gevin in the desert.

He says the sun recharges the sand, but it recharges in 4 hours. 4 hours! That seems more biological than magical. Recharging doesn 't necissarily mean magic. The Sun being magic seems like the more obvious answer and I won't be mad if that is the case. I just feel that Brandon wants to be sneakier this time. He mentioned that the world's magic is based on ecology. We'll see how that hint plays out!

We have a teaser from Brandon's lovely assistant wondering if we'd find Hoid in "this volume".

The newsletter didnt say that the Sun was invested. It said that water and the sun are used to control sand. It isn't clear what the sun is doing. And since Darkside has a different sun, but that both sides have latent magic, the water or sky seems like a likely answer. But i admit i know nothing more than you do. The suns could easily be the answer too.

Someone else mentioned this, but i thought Id go hunting. Option 1) Clouds can be used to spy on events. The Darksiders on Dayside a VERY up to date. The crime lord says "information has a way if finding us". Could cloud mastery be another form of magic? These faces look different to me. They dont appear to be the same person. The nose looks different. I also don't think Brandon would have a singular Cloud Mother (one of the faces looks very female) in his books after placing one in Roshar. Option 2) The sky is invested. It can filter the sunlight and refract healthy light to the people of dayside. The light is changed and invested so the sand can use it. The light is also made weaker so that the Daysiders do not burn and do not need to evolve protections against UV light. Something similar might be happening in Darkside that strengthens the light. This face could be akin to the stormfather. Option 3) The water is invested. The water of the body is used to fuel sand mastery. The critters die from water exposure. Sand masters can manipulate water. And the clouds seem to have a magical use.

I have a wob stating that it would be possible to find evidence left behind of someone using Skycolors off world. So that muddles things up a bit.

This seems like a prime candidate for Hoid. Brandon is said to have given him a different role in the graphic novel. This man appears on different pages. He is playing music or being a story teller like Hoid. He is dressed like Hoid in Elantris. He is on a crate like Hoid in WOR. And he is overhearing key information straight from Kenton's mouth. Kenton is talking about the fate of the Maestrells. Also, this man sees Kenton recover from his overmastery. Kenton glows white while Kenton is in the middle of the Agora. Hoid would easily be able to see this and Hoid would be seeing a unique manifistation of investiture. Hoid has a reason for being in the Agora at this specific time. Hoid would be seeing something thought to be impossible.

Sandlings can also communicate with the sand somehow. Well, certain cultures believe that.

The Dayside sun seems weak. There are no visable sunburns. Likely the planet is siphoning off a lot of energy. My guess is that the atmosphere of Taldain is very unique.

Well the Liespren/Truthspren said that their order had been devastated. The spren that knew about Roshar and the Nahel bond had all died. He implied that almost everything had been lost from that time. He wanted to come so he could research how this all worked since it had all been lost.

Whitesand can't be rejuvenated on Darkside by the second sun's light (wob). Though, there might be a workaround. I continue to believe that the suns are not invested. i have seen no evidence that the suns are invested, and Brandon seems to be putting effort into dispelling this belief. ___________________ Autonomy wants the two regions to be "autonomous". This means that one side shouldn't be able to disrupt the other. The planet seems to lack autonomy, but i think people are conflating autonomy with anarchy or libertarian-ism. Autonomy is shooting for autonomous regions and societies, not autonomous individual and wills. Autonomy has created a planet with two autonomous regions with magic systems and biospheres that pose no threat to the other region. __________________- My guess is that the planet's atmosphere is heavily invested and that the atmosphere (or something) can manipulate and change the sunlight that arrives. The planet seems to be the oddity in this solar system. The planet does not move, but the suns around it do. The planet seems to be doing all the work in this region, which makes me think it is the planet, not the sun, is granting investiture in two distinct ways. The planet is situated between two stars and it is the planet that is controlling everything. We haven't seen a shard change a star yet. This might just be because The Lord Ruler etc. never thought to do so, but my guess is that shards have much more control over the planets they invest. Currently, it is much more likely that Taldain invested the sky, rather than that Taldain invested two distant stars. Odium's ability to invest Roshar seems limited, and Roshar is much closer to his planet that this star seems to be to Taldain's world. We know Taldain is not on a star (WOB), so again i think the stars are not the things being invested. If the planet's stratosphere etc. is invested, then that would explain why Whitesand can't be used by other suns. And if the magic systems demand different sorts of filtered sunlight, then the two regions would continue to function autonomously. The planet is even inaccessible to world-hoppers, continuing the theme of autonomy and self direction.

The Spen do reproduce somehow. Many were lost millenia ago, but their numbers have recovered.
-
Okay, so Brandon has let me say one thing and he has informed me that it is cannon. Other suns are not able to charge the Whitesand. However, other investitures can charge sand and return its color from black. We will be seeing black sand in places where we shouldn't find it. Stormlight can return the whiteness to the sand. If you look closely it is also possible to find evidence of Skycolors being used in future books 'if you watch'. Though this is much different than how one might find evidence of sand being used. The two things are different, but not much is known about Darkside.
-
I have an old old old reddit WOB that answers some of these questions, but i messaged Brandon to ask if im allowed to share it.

Isn't is kind of bizarre that spren have genders at all? Wouldn't it make more sense for the spren to have no gendered behaviour? The spren dont die, but are we suggesting they reproduce sexually? It is a tad odd.

WoB Gold Shadows Might Function Akin to Soul Stamps
teknopathetic replied to teknopathetic's topic in Cosmere Discussion
The point however is that God can be used to gleam novel information. The WoB heavily implies that Vin could interact with her Gold Shadow in some way and potentially gain information or skills from a different time-line. Thats fairly incredible. And even more eerily - does the cognitive shadow desire to be real? Could a sentient soulstamp (the gold shadow) potentially put up a fight? -

teknopathetic replied to teknopathetic's topic in Cosmere Discussion
Electrum shows you the possible immediate future, correct? It works by showing you what you would have done and it gives you the option to do something different. Gold is different. Gold lets you see alternate timelines that you can't do anything about. Gold shows you the physical manifestation of your bizzaro self. It seems both Gold and Electrum could possibly show you your own corpse on the ground. However, it seemed like Gold actually shows you a physical manifestation of yourself (Vin could touch her Gold Shadow.). Im not sure Electrum has as much realness to the shadow it produces. If you fine-tuned your gold skills, maybe you could see the alternate version of you that walked a step left instead of a step right. But you are right to say that Electrum lets you see a few seconds in advance. I think both metals could conceivably be used to predict your own death. Gold would require a savant level ability to fine-tune the pulse and sift possible cognitive shadows. Maybe the Bird ability is a mixture of Gold and Electrum being burned at once. I wonder what would happen if you flared both metals at once? Or gave them a burst? -
WoB Gold Shadows Might Function Akin to Soul Stamps
teknopathetic replied to teknopathetic's topic in Cosmere Discussion
Does Electrum do that? Electrum tells you where you will be in the next second, right? But Gold tells you where you would have been and what would have become of you. To me, seeing your dead body on the ground sounds more like Gold (what you could have been) rather than Electrum (what you will do).
