I would love to ask "Was the damage on Threnody intended or accidental". i have a pet theory that Ambition fled his world too quickly, and this ripped open permanent holes and ruined other areas in the spheres of existence. We've never seen what happens when a shard forcibly removes itself from an invested world (unless we have here). The damage done doesn't seem to resemble what happened over on Sel so I'm think an investiture rip is the likeliest option.

"Extract Truth" might be a bit handy.

I assumed he has battled the unmade or other invested minsters once or twice.

About the 10 gas giants [AU Spoilers]
teknopathetic replied to Full Metal Rithmatist's topic in Cosmere Discussion
Good call! The fact there are 10 gas giants is pretty dark suspicious. If they were each a different primary gas... -
[AU Spoilers] Bavadin, Autonomy, and new info
teknopathetic replied to FirstSelector's topic in Cosmere Discussion
Bavidan could be something other than human. Maybe he/she doesn't have a gender in any sense we'd recognize or perhaps he/she is a dragon that can change gender like in some common dragon lore. We know some of the holders are not human. -
[All Spoilers] Brandon Can't Save Roshar as an Author

Do we think you need to pick up a splintered shard? Sel seems to be okay-ish considering (though the Dor looks like it might go nuclear at some point) Why not just leave it destroyed? -
[All Spoilers] Brandon Can't Save Roshar as an Author
teknopathetic replied to teknopathetic's topic in Cosmere Discussion
When I gave this theory to Brandon his written response was: " ...RAFO. :)" I've gotten many reddit "RAFO" but never a "...RAFO" I choose to read into that '...' as much as possible -
I was thinking about the stories Brandon Sanderson has written, and I think the existance of other Cosmere works box in the potential of the Roshar arc. 1) Elantris - A book depicting a shard world after it has been defeated. 2) Mistborn Series 1 - A book depicting a shardworld barely surviving destruction. 3) Mistborn Series 2 - A book depicting a shardworld beginning to see the influence of a new shard. What is the most obvious option missing from his corpus of work? There is no book showing what happens WHEN a shard is splintered. 4. The Way of Kings Series - A set of books showing what happens when a Shard is splintered and a world is defeated. ------------------- It seems like this is the only clear literary option left to Sanderson with this world lest he repeat himself. -------------- WoBs Brandon has stated that we have seen the ending of the series already somewhere in the book. Well, we certainly have seen a vision of the planet being utterly destroyed. We want to believe that the people will overcome this, but can they? Seeing how behind they are - should they win? So far we've seen in Stormlight that "RUN" is the best tactical option against Odium. My gut says we will see the people of this planet run and take shelter elsewhere in the Cosmere. We will get to see the exodus that perhaps happened in Sel (Elantris was empty) or perhaps we will see something like from Shadows for Silence in the Forests of Hell (the great exodus). A dying world arc is something I can see him trying to pull-off as an author. Can Brandon really copy the "Nearly insurmountable odds but a last second victory" arc of the Mistborn series? I don't think he can and that worries me.

I asked if Dark Siders were watching events with this magic. I got a nice reddit RAFO.

Dalinar's Wife Chose Adolin's Name
teknopathetic replied to SheSmiledAnyway's topic in Cosmere Discussion
It could explain why a certain someone decided to becime the royal Swordsmanship teacher. Why would ***** want that position in the forst place? Maybe he wants to protect someone he feels kinship towards? -
Dalinar's Wife Chose Adolin's Name
teknopathetic replied to SheSmiledAnyway's topic in Cosmere Discussion
Man, I hope it was a Worldhopper with the royal locks. Could you imagine someone on Roshar who could change their hair and eye color at will (wob that more physical changes are possible than just the hair). I also wonder if the Royal Locks pertain to any royal line. We know that only potential heirs to the throne inherit the royal locks. But could a different throne be enough to activate the power? My guess is the royal locks work because the owner BELIEVES the locks will work on a cognative and spiritual level. But, its unclear what would happen. The do mention Adolin's hair a lot though haha -
Awkeners worldhopping wouldn't be so new either. But my guess on the matter is as good as yours. Hope we find out soon! abandoned metalminds and abandoned shardblases are two topics i cant wait to read more about.
-
I think we are supposed to think 'awakening', but I don't believe that is true. What if old metalminds are being smelted into tools. These metals would have a lot of magic in them. Maybe the application of a new intent, or something else, is creating sentient metalmind tools. Im reminded of Shai describing how a window wants to be an unbroken window. A metalmind wants to have the identity of a feruchemist, but if that metalmind was forged into a hammer, then the objevt would have two identities. Plus, there would be a lot of stored investiture that could fuel some interesting reactions. This would be a hilarious consequence of the industrial revolution. We dont really know what happens to a metalmind after the owner dies. Maybe the investiture can bleed into the metal over time. Then some human comes around, reforges the metal, and says "you are a hammer" and gives the metalmind a new cognative identity. The voila - i am a hammer starts talking in the physical realm. Feruchemists were pretty rare and lived away from the main populations. Now many loose metals might be invested. Plus, people might be smelting old relects from the genocide of the keepers.

if we look at the Seons, which are splinters of Devotion, I think we can see that Devotion as a holder focused on the loving aspect of the term. Seons exist to help others grow and thrive; seons are embodiments of love. I admit devotion isn't always positive, but hatred isn't always negative either. I can't imagine something being more antithetical to Odium than the Seons of Sel.
-
You don't think devotion (I'm picturing a father's devotion to a child or an artist's devotion to her painting) might be a close opposite to Odium, Spite, and Hatred? I know not every shard had an opposite, but to me these seem clearly opposed.
-
Seeing as Autonomy is pretty much the opposite of Dominion, and that Odium is pretty much the opposite of devotion, I can see Odium and Autonomy teaming up VS the Sel Shards. With Dominion gone it makes sense why Autonomy would stop helping Odium.

My only guess is that the spren isn't from Roshar. Maybe it looks like something we have seen on a different planet. We know that other planets can have spren and that spren can move around the cosmere in some difficult way.

oooooooooh! Nice find!

Hmm. I looked but I dont see the skull you are mentioning.

If you listen to Brandon's Writing Excuses podcast he mentions that he has a lot of biases as a male writer. He focuses on societies with a male center and then he will pepper in one or two alpha-females. He thought he was being inclusive when he was a young writer, but his female/male percentages for secondary characters are not flattering. When he was a younger writer he felt that he was being inclusive, but now he works very hard to place more women in his stories. He is fighting his biases and this is a good reflection of that.

Well everyone on Darkside glows in the dark: teeth, nails, etc. There is a lot of strange light bombarding Nightside. The 2nd sun must be very far away, and I doubt all that energy could be (naturally) coming from the 2nd sun.
