I am also saying to line the back and/or tassels at an extreme of the design/idea, to shield yourself from a swath of non-cognitive abilities, (speed bubbles, leeching, duralumin backed pushes, etc) from your blindspots. I do think it would take a lots of training to make it more helpful than hindrance, and the difficulty could easily be on par with those whip-swords that tend to dismember amateurs. And also just a solid dose good old fashioned pulp/superhero acrobatics.

What have you done for a Brandon Book?
Quantus replied to Pemur's topic in General Brandon Discussion
Im not saying I chose not to have children specifically for a collection of leatherbound novels, but the two aren't Not related.... -
I figured the hood could be lowered to use emotional allomancy or seeking, but raised at need for protection. Steelpushing generally comes from the core so if the front of the cloak is open and doesnt disrupt the metalsight lines it should be viable, if something you'd probably need to train with specifically to move in without hindering yourself.

Aluminum-lined hat to be immune to most levels of emotional allomancy. Aluminum dust/foil grenades to act as Investiture Chaff. Aluminum-lined Mistcloaks.

Who Is Your Favorite Bridge Four?
Quantus replied to Oookla the Murdery's topic in Stormlight Archive
No, that's totally fair. I find him Interesting, if not my favorite, I just dont see many people who'd put both Teft and Moash in their top 3 after RoW... -

All the Fictional Curses in the Cosmere
Quantus replied to TheFrugalWizard's topic in Entertainment Discussion
Ill be honest, until I went looking I didnt know this page existed, but I think it's what you are looking for (Credit to the King_of_Terdaz): https://coppermind.net/wiki/User:King_of_Herdaz/Curses_and_Phrases -
The Shard itself would not duplicate or create new anything. Those shards are already 1/16 of infinity, and are just giant balls of Investiture. The formerly Mortal Vessel of the Shard can indeed have children and those children would be special, but we dont know any specifics.

Other than the self-imposed and mostly non-magical restrictions the Skybreakers impose on themselves, there's been no evidence of ANY requirements placed on squires beyond having some emotional Connection to an actual Radiant. They have no Idals of their own, no Oaths to break, just power granted by association and the regard of the Radiant. So if a full Radiant views the Ryshadium as an equal member of their Crew (totally believable based on the relationships we've seen, and also standard Horse People beliefs), and has reached whatever minimum Sentience is required to form Bonds (unproven but should be no more than Aviar Bird level), then they should be a viable target for that Radiant to Empower the Ryshadium as a squire.
-
There's nothing about those two bonds that would prevent them from having both their Gemheart Spren and the Horse evolution of the Squire bond we're talking about here. A Ryshadium is not sapient enough to Swear Ideals and become Radiant in their own right, but that's not something expected of or required for Squires.
-
On the topic of wind runners and sky breakers: if we assume they will be something new to develop from existing mechanics, I think some variant of the Squire Bond would be most likely. If that happens the Ryshadium would theoretically be able to lash themselves around. Consider the value of a Horse with Stormlight and Surges.

7th heightening invested objects question.
Quantus replied to Tamriel Wolfsbaine's question in Cosmere Q&A
Life sense can detect things like Spren so it shouldnt be restricted to Breaths and Awakening specifically. It seems to excess at detecting Static Investiture as compared to A-Bronze that detects Kinetic investiture. Presumably it would be able to detect anything in range that is significantly Invested, including godmetals and shardpools, metalminds, charged white sand (if it's sensitive enough), spren/seons/skaze, Dor Devices that maintain power, animals with Spren (or Worm?) Bonds, etc. -
The Shattering of the Shattered Plains?
Quantus replied to Raceroa2307's topic in Stormlight Archive
For what it's worth, so far only Nale is confirmed to actually have joined his corresponding order and thus be on the 5-oaths scheme. The fractal patterning is generally noted as a telltale feature that points to Division being the primary power involved, though the Windblades are similar but more likely a mass Soulcasting event. In all cases there's usually an assumption that a Bondsmith was involved to allow the sheer scale of it, though a Herald still backed by Honor might be able to do similar. -
Fueling Feruchemy with other forms of Investiture.
Quantus replied to RowdyGryphon's topic in Cosmere Discussion
He probably cant just use Purified Dor because he cant actually, natively Burn Atium-As-Age (unless his spiritweb has warped/adapted over the years. He might be able to supplement his burn with a little Atium for the Compounding Hack retuning and a lot of Purified Dor to get carried along and donate Investiture, but he'd still need (and use up) that seed atium. But regardless, Atium age reduction cant get you to a true, practical immortality since it has diminishing returns. Far better to just acquire (and/or manufacture) 5000 Breaths for a more perpetual age reduction. To the OP, there should be several ways to fuel Feruchemy with other investitures. Most are just theory at this point, but they fall into two categories: Recharging Metalminds and Magically Raising the Attributes before storing. Breaths will natively adapt to the identity of the target when given, so I fully believe there exists a Command to Invest them into a metalmind and flush their investiture into the Metalmind's storage (adapting to the identity and Investiture tuning) in a very effective if expensive way to charge them. Other Investitures like Dor or the Lights could probably be forced in there and/or tuned appropriately, but they'd take more complex steps Im sure. For the other side, anything that augments one or more of the attributes can raise your Storing max and/or Rates. Being a Returned, having the Royal Locks, or A-Pewter all activate a Mind-over-Matter state that can augment a lot of different aspects of their physical self, and they'd be fed by a Divine Breath, Food metabolism, and Preservation respectively. Holding Stormlight itself will augment some capabilities that could probably be stored. An Elantrian would have some interesting things to Store, as would Dakhor monks or anyone augmenting themselves with that mysterious Dor Potion magic.- 11 replies

Most cosmere magics respond to Intent and were built to advance with scientific understanding, so I do believe they could make more targeted storage/tapping combos like that. I can foresee two limits, though. For one, they'd still be limited to humans style muscles and probably wouldnt be able to match the muscle density performance of the great apes, for example. On the other hand Feruchemy is typically less customizable outside what the person native gets, so its possible that they might only be able to store and tap muscle at the density they naturally possess, so they'd need to do some amount of the appropriate muscle training first before being able tap for a denser musculature, and then might not be able to go back to a fluffy Beach-muscle body.

If a Skimmer is Spiked, do the Spikes become lighter?
Quantus replied to JustQuestin2004's question in Cosmere Q&A
I think so Yes, once they are implanted they'd be considered part of you and so they'd be affected by those internal powers along with you to some degree (probably cant Gold heal one whole since it'd have gotten unplugged from your spiritweb). They'd also probably be protected from things heat melting with the methods Firesoul's have available, especially for the low melting point metals.- 3 replies

We've also technically only seen living plate on screen twice (outside of the visions). Im hoping there will be something special to happen between an active Radiant and the Ryshadium on a Bond level, something we havent seen yet. Maybe an extension of the squire mechanics.... But I dont think it will be for every Order, and Windrunners in particular would find mounted combat more limiting than helpful.

Confusion with the surge of transformation
Quantus replied to Shadow of Electrum's topic in Stormlight Archive
Between those WOB's you posted and this one, Elscallers can do proper Spiritual Realm FTL teleportation beyond just utilizing Shadesmar terrain differences, so Site-to-site teleportation should be in their purview. Hard to say if they'd need Bondsmiths to do a 2nd person or if they're just needed for the scale of major population migrations. -
Well, it's not NOT hacking the source-code of reality, so headaches seem justified.
-
And it might, or Mr. T might not have been cognizant of the difference between sapient radiant spren and the sometimes animal-type lesser spren that can also provide access to some Surges (Gravitation, for example, doesnt require actual Honorspren, even if they are the only sapient race to provide that surge (just because I dont really consider the three Godspren to be a unified race like the others.)

The other aspect aspect of the physics of all this is the skimmer's Foot speed when striking the water. Surface tension equilibrium is how you'd go about calculating what it would take to stand still on the water. But for running it's about the force equilibrium of the impact on the surface of the water, so you have to look at the Viscous Dampening aspect of the fluid. The short version is that water resist motion of an object relative to the velocity that object is travelling; it's why water is no better than concrete from a high enough fall. If the foot has favorable geometry (more concave than convex, mainly) and it strikes the surface of the water fast enough, the water will push back just as much as a solid surface would, and you can traverse the water. While weight and surface area of the foot will affect the force to keep the person from falling toward the water, it would be modelled as a series of strike impacts that is propelling the person upward&forward. That's how a Flash-style speedster runs on water, even with full human weight.
-
It depends on what you mean by Create At Will. Evidence suggests they are using the Tension Surge, so a Radiant with access to that surge can likely accomplish some thing equivalent, since by and large the Radiants get far more flexibility in surge application than the Fabrial versions. But like any other Radiant Surge it would be temporary; they cannot just sit down and start manufacturing piles of actual Half-shard fabrials or anything.

I can confirm it works for me as of now, both on mobile and through my office's annoying content filter.

No, I'm totally willing to free-wheel some hypotheticals, I just dont have a good idea for a scheme to start with. If you can give me an example one to get things rolling, I'm game.

I really dont think Moash's PoNR was killing Elhokar, I think it was killing Kaladin. In WoR, it wasnt just an assault, he caved in Kaladin's chest with the force-amplified strength of the Shardplate Kaladin had given him, and it would have been lethal if he hadnt managed to repair his Bond. It may have taken Kaladin longer to come around (not surprising given the nature of the Windrunner Oaths regarding those they Hate), but I think Moash's Choice to kill Kaladin was the point he internalized it in his own mind and soul, and the rest since has just been him dealing with (or running from) the fallout.
