  1. For Mistings Im not personally a fan of "Pewterarm" or "Nicroburst" or "Tineye", just compared to the more evocative and purely functional names of the rest that dont feel the need to include the name of the actual metal (I give the Gnats a pass because it's supposed to capture the presumed uselessness of the metal itself). For Ferrings, it's definitely the "Subsumer" which I've never figured out because Subsume means "To be included as part of a Comprehensive Whole" but it doenst have anything to do Food&Hydration or anything relevant to the actual Power... is it just rhymes with "Consume"? Consumer could make more sense, despite the RL economic connotation. Seriously, if anyone can explain that one to me somehow, Ill take any headcanon you can offer.
  2. Old Theory: I posted the Quadrant theory of Shards years ago before I started participating here, and Dawnshard seems to have confirmed a lot of it. Current Theory: The Stormfaker is the Everstorm's spren, who was trying to steal the Stormfather's Bondsmith Candidate. Current Theory: The Deadeye spren did what they did because they wanted to put control of the Surges in the hands of Bonded Spren instead of Bonded Humans; Maya and Adolin are the first to start down that Path, which his role being to Metabolize Lifelight and give it to Maya to power her own LifeBinder Radiant power package. (Inspired by the Mage & Source relationship of Fionavar skymagic).
  3. I made a Chull-burger recipe a few years back, WOB says it's something half-way between Surf and Turf. Needs to specify a high fat ratio in the ground beef, (80/20 or more fat) to keep them from being as Dry as they were my first try.
  4. Counter point: the last interaction the Sibling has with Humans was when they forced the Sibling to be complicit in the spiritual Mutilation of the entire Singer race, and in a time when their Father, Honor, was entirely convinced that Humans would CAUSE the Literal End of the World. Also, spren generally dont Change absent outside influences the way Humans do (something Honor forgot with the Heralds, to everyone's harm), so expecting the Sibling to have Changed to a more human outlook over the years of their death/hibernation isnt really in the cards for a Spren by their very Nature.
  5. Preservation's power was also in the Mists and other places while Ruin was strictly in Atium. Preservation built/modified the system specifically to siphon off and trap Ruin's power so it's not a really natural and/or balanced process.
  6. Interesting point! He said he "Saved" them from the Unmade, but what we know is that he reclaimed his own Honorblade, killing Szeth's father in the process. What if those were the same thing and an UnMade had taken control of those holding the Honorblades before he arrived? They'd have had access to all the surges and years of training on how to use them, and apparently some degree of Sympathy for the UnMade. It's within the realm of possibility that they used the Honorblade surges and Recovered one of the imprisoned UnMade, so maybe BAM and Yelig-nar should be put back on the list as technically possible but unlikely.
  7. Counterfeit Gems! Arrest them! WWRTO Godzilla?
  8. Use Case: Aluminum Earring implanted in everyone sent to the hypothetical Superpowered Prison, they are depowered in a permanent but reversable way. Yup, either #1 is correct or the Metallic Arts are the only known magic that can Invest Aluminum (Hemalurgically and/or Feruchemically). It's already the only known way to Destroy Aluminum with an investiture-based effect (the aluminum Burn of an allomancer). This is basically confirmed to not be the case, as you say it doesnt shut down Powers without the Intent+Bind Point elements of Hemalurgy involved to make it bridge Realms and interact with the Spiritweb directly. Agreed, I think it's #1, but I think there are a lot of reasons that will become useful (if not exactly pleasant) in the later cosmere. Unlike the other known hemalurgic effects, it doesnt care which Bind Point is used, so you can implant the spike into non-lethal locations, and if it doent get charged it doesn rip anything off when removed. This would let you shut down powers and potentially prevent new ones from forming, and if that includes preventing Nahel or Luhel Bonds from forming it could be a decent protection against the less friendly Aethers. It might even block prayers from reaching the Dragons. No clue how it might interact with Breaths...
  9. Fun Fact that came up in another thread: Tapping Mental Speed makes you hungry. So compounding mental speed might require equally magical caloric supplements to support the brain, or else be limited by your diet and natural reserves.
  10. Any prolonged use of Investiture at the power levels that Allomancy provides can eventually lead to Savantism. It doesnt need to be flairing, just a continuous burn will eventually do it (though flairing will do it much faster).
  11. It does it then too, but it's hard to say Only, especially in the case of an explosion on the scale of the Bomb that went off. Generally speaking the bigger the effect the more likely it is to break realms and start doing weird things. Or, it could be as simple as the pure investiture providing the seeds for a new Shardpool and/or Pits to form.
  12. From a purely doylistic standpoint I doubt it since Savantism is always supposed to Suck a little bit rather than solving/mitigating the system's limitations. I suspect you'd go the other way and require increased calories all the time regardless of whether you are actively juicing your mental speed.
  13. That one has an interesting Quirk (from the Coppermind): Normal tapping would be relatively small compared to what Compounding would allow so normal caloric reserves are probably fine. But with compounding are you at risk of starving your brain of glucose or something similar by tapping to much at once? Would you need to be able to also Compound F-Bendalloy to keep up with the caloric demands, or else moderate your intelligence boost to low multiples only?
  14. Calling it now: It breaks down into pure Atium and Lerasium, which will lead to a resurgence of full Mistborn in the next generation of the Basin.
  15. We're talking specifically about Compounding Twinborn like in the other thread, yes? Not just Twinborn with one Ferring and one Misting Power? If that's the case, I think being Double Tin is the best combination, since it does more than just allow Compounding. The Ability to selectively Store each sense will protect you from the side effects of over-using and even Flairing Allomantic Tin. And you can store in private and then tap metalminds to have the enhanced (magical and/or mist piercing) Allomantic senses with no active A-Bronze to hear. And if you can get your hands medallions for even a little while, you should be able to store and then infinitely compound the sensory parts of other powers (Steelsight and Bronze, mostly)
  16. She soulcast a ship, failed to soulcast a stick, and almost fell into shadesmar without a way to return. Per WOB Lightweavers can send themselves there as a function of Soulcasting, but cannot bring others or Return the way Elsecalling allows. I assume we'll see her (an/or the other Lightweavers) doing more as things go on, it's just a Surge that takes a lot of training and practice and has a lot of potential for big bad mistakes.
  17. That's actually a pretty complex example to tackle, but lets try. Hair may not be on the table at all because it's technically dead and just hanging on you, and per WOB it will be treated like an object to a Shardblade (unless it's magical like the Royal Locks). But if we set that possibility aside, there are still predictable limits to what Healing can and Cant fix. Spiritual Healing cannot Fix Age, so it couldnt stop your hair from turning grey and/or falling out no matter what your self image is because the progression of Age is itself part of the Ideal (and an objective Connection per WOB and the whole snap-back mechanic). It could never regenerate Piercings, etc no matter how important to your self-identity they are, even invested Spikes that directly wire into your spiritweb. But it can restore Scars and it can restore Tattoos even though the inks were originally foreign. I personally think that it would be very difficult and maybe impossible to make Blue Hair Dye heal itself as part of your Platonic Self because it's not permanent and you have to ritually reapply it, which keeps it cognitively anchored as something separate. Tattoos are different in that they are a permanent color change to the skin (and technically a scar) with no upkeep. It would heal the already dyed parts like a Tattoo (If hair heals at all), and if the hair root growth color had been permanently changed with magic or science it would/could heal to the new color. But I think a hair dye that needs to be reapplied would land on the external (Piercing style) side of the line. And along the same mechanics as the Gender Change extreme case, I think you might be able to change your natural hair color and overall racial traits to another one that already exists in your world. So Red Hair and even the Horneater's ability to eat shells might happen but I doubt you could grant yourself Rock's more rare ability to see Spren, or becoming Natan would give you Blue Hair With Blue skin but not without, and it might not be possible at all on a planet with no blue-haired race. And for all of this, the real limit is that you are trying to enact the Change using the Spiritual/Platonic Ideal as a template, which naturally limits what you can modify. The shapeshifting of the Divine Breath or the Mind-Over-Matter state that A-Pewter can theoretically reach would have fewer (or at least different) limitations.
  18. In particular, they provide This Link to keep up with the chapters as they are released: https://reactormag.com/columns/wind-and-truth/ Plus this:
  19. I definitely agree! The Radiant progression of Ideals definitely seems to be Cultivations influence. On the other hand, this WOB implies that the classic Ten Surges are Honor's set, Voidbinding will be Odium's set of Surges, and that Cultivation has her own set of Ten Surges that we may not have actually seen yet. That last can lead down a rabbithole of theory involving Maya and the Recreance and a new form of emerging Radiant (and Im not sure how many Ive convinced yet).
  20. It's hard for me to pick a favorite, but from the WoK cast (and that place in their respective arcs, etc) I think my favorites are most of Bridge 4 (especially Rock and Lopen), Syl, and maybe Pattern. Also Wit, but he's a special case.
  21. As far as I can tell "Connections" are the underlying Strings that literally create Reality (not unlike what String Theory says) but with a lot of extra hollywood-level entangle and such. But they are literally the Strings that comprise the Spiritweb, and Spiritwebs are what make Physical reality exists. But as far a Investiture Effects go, I wouldnt say that Surges Are Connections persay, rather that manipulating Connections will create Surges (or Surge Effects, to be more specific). Investiture effects are made by Tuning Investiture to different patterns and/or Frequencies. Allomancy does this via Burning Metals and letting them naturally resonate the Invesiture into specific forms in a magical equivalent to Spectroscopy to gain that frequency tuning. The corresponding analogy I see for Surges is that they are created by using a Bond Connection as a plucked guitar or harp string to vibrate the Investiture. The analogy for AonDor is that Investiture flowing through specific physical Shapes will manipulate it with mechanisms closer to radio antenna frequency response. All that to say I dont think Surges Are Connections, but I think Connections are the Realmic mechanism being used to create the Surge effects. And I think in the case of some specific Surges, like Gravitation or Division, what the Surge is manipulating is itself also a Connection.
  22. There are a few things at play. And it's worth noting that all of these are just based on the current In-World understanding of the powers, and we've been warned that what they cant be made to do will grow and develop as things progress into the space age. In general Spiritual* Healing uses an infusion of Investiture to restore the body to it's Spiritual Ideal form. What constitutes the actual "Ideal" is subjective so it will is influenced by the subjects Cognitive aspect, their deep sense of Self ("Identity" is something specific and different). At it's most extreme it can both cure or restore Old Scars and Injuries (if you've internalized them enough), it can change gender, it usually cant cure hereditary diseases. The Source of the healing comes in different strengths and limitations depending on how deep into your spiritweb it's touching, with Allomantic Gold or Personal Radiant Healing being the strongest/Deepest, and things like Honorblades, Squires, fabrials, and Regrowth all falling somewhere below those. Regrowth can be more complicated because it will loop in the perception of both the target and the caster. Also, for all of these, the caster's perception can influence a lot so they can always add more limitations. All that being said, the Spiritual Idealize Self is something deeper than just Method Acting, and it's not just a chronological rewind, so it will only maintain, restore, and/or Modify your body to a form that Deep in your very core you believe is part of your Self. In the case of the hair I personally doubt it because I suspect the repeated ritual of reapplying the Hair Die would be part of the internalize experience. But a Tattoo is totally on the table to just become part of your Healed definition, as are piercings, etc. Gender change is possible if the Healing is powerful enough. I think the jury is out of whether a Singer could reclaim a Form without the associated Spren in their Gemheart, but it's an interesting question. No idea if a full species shift is possible but entirely original and/or unnatural things like a third arm or angel wings shouldnt work even with some really deep madness-level mental gymnastics. It's worth noting that there's an entirely separate shapeshifting Ability in the cosmere that works on a similar Self-Image mechanic per WOB, one that the Returned get and WOB says Divine Locks or Pewter Mistings could potentially accomplish with training. Returned can manipulate their self image a little more consciously (via trained mental gymnastics) to get some pretty massive physical changes but cannot use it to heal themselves, and WOB says Pewter Mistings can do similar via activating a Mind-Over-Matter state while they burn metal. They can do unnatural hair colors body shapes and sizes, and in the case of Returned I suspect they can even tweak their cognitive and spiritual attributes. *The only non-Spiritual Healing we have an example of is Bloodsealing ReSealing (which is one of the more cognitive Dor Magics from Sel which already break lots of rules). It's more like magical physical manipulation where you have to know where every nerve and blood vessel needs to be, more like if Star Trek did all their medical care by rewriting your pattern definition inside the Transporter (Why dont they, actually?).
  23. Logicspren in smokestone create a pulse of stormlight relative to how close another piece of metal is to the gem, and they will switch state if tapped by another piece of metal. That provides a clock signal function and basic logic gate functionality. It might be the size of a building (or several) but you have all the building blocks of a functional computer akin to those massive functional computers that people have managed to build using Minecraft's Redstone system. EDIT: Navani's gravitation-based anti-humdification fabrial should work great for DeSalination and DeCremificaiton of water. It could probably Cold Distillation too, and really any sort of very selective fluid separation and/or purification you may want to do. That could replace all kinds of large-scale industrial processes we use for filtration, distillation columns, selective membranes, etc.

    AI breaths

Not just AonDor, all the Selish magic systems are supposed to be programming languages for reality, just with different usage specialties. As far as AI goes, any actual sapient AI is going to require Investiture to accomplish, so it would either require or suck in Investiture to make it happen. So you could theoretically do it but you it would probably not be a useful way to manufacture investiture (unless you have some natural source and are exploiting the Attraction possibility, I guess?). But once you have an AI it would behave as any other sapient entity.
  25. Oh, yes, and Im entirely down for the ride, just wanted to set the starting position that a lot of the logic will need to start at the desired narrative Effect and work backward to Cause, so there will narrative pressures instead of a purely scientific and data-based approach. With that said, lets look at that Data! Bubbles are subject to the Intent of their user. So Perception effects and modifiers are in the mix So behaviors could Change in with training and/or cultural understanding in later Era's. Different things behave differently as they cross the boundary. By Default: Light & Radiation are unaffected Air/wind and airborn objects will transition but are deflected. The User will Pop the bubble if they cross the boundary. Other People can pass in and out (Confirm?) Aluminum Will Pop the Bubble Silver is likely but untested to do the same, given it's Investiture Disruption effect. An "Object" is either inside or out with no* discernable transition time. An "Object" is not necessarily a single molecule, it can be any random volume of air from a waft to a breeze to a tornado, depending on how it views itself in the moment on the I Am A Stick level, in the same way one Object can encompass anything from a single grain of sand to a boulder to a whole stacked stone keep. Physics like to do things with the least amount of energy possible at all times. I propose that the Random Deflection of air current and ballistic objects is happening because random volumes of Air are popping across into the Bubble, and it's creating a sort of frothy effect that randomly bumps the objects to impart unexpected vectors and spin, and disrupts the air currents coming it as the cohesive 'school' of individual wind currents get scattered. So we know at a high level that when the math break reality the hand-wavy explanation is that Spiritual Realm spillover make up the difference. But we also know it's supposed to be a relatively hard magic system that can and will be quantified, so there are always limits. The Super-Bubble example seems to fit that concept: lets assume the Bubble itself is providing the Investiture/Energy to transition. It's generally easy for light, and mass can work too but for the Identity Froth (tm) described above, but it makes sense that a Duralumin Super-bubble could create such a massive differential that it overloads the bubble's capabilities and makes that crystal effect as it strains against it's limits. For the Space Age implications to FTL and Air Bubbles, and looking at Rosharan development as an example, I think that it'll either be a matter of specific Understanding and Intent (the way Soulcasting could do Isotopes or ignore Conservation in some circumstances, or Lightweaving can eventually do high energy weapons) or it'll be a matter of mechanically modifying the Bubble's behavior more like the Aluminum&Conjoiner development opened up so many options in RoW.
