  1. Nalan probably has some pretty serious moves. In the prologue to Words of Radiance, Jasnah overhears a herald saying to Nale that they (he and Nale) shouldn't have let Szeth keep the honorblade. Here's a link to another post where I quoted that passage. By saying they shouldn't have let him keep it, Ishar/Kalak (whoever that other herald is) is implying that he and Nalan have the ability to take it away from Szeth. And Szeth, as we all know, is a complete badchull. However, Adolin is more than just a good duelist. He is a fantastic duelist. He's one of the best. In any fair duel, he is not going to be beaten down in a matter of minutes. Then again, I don't think that Darkness would constrain himself to a fair duel against anyone, unless he was compelled by law. Szeth beat Adolin because of surprise and surges. Adolin didn't know how to deal with a surgebinder. Now he knows that they exist, and will be training to be prepared against them. Nalan used to be using the law to justify the execution of proto-radiants. He was confined by the law, but he didn't really care about upholding it. It was just a tool, or an obstacle. Now he seems to have a great interest in making sure justice comes to the leadership of Shinovar. The same leadership that just happens to possess most of the honorblades. At the same time, now that Szeth has "died", the Stone Shamans are supposed to retrieve Jezrien's honorblade. Once Nale is done with Shinovar, he will probably be heading for Urithiru. There's an honorblade there, and multiple proto-radiants. And if the Stone Shaman Honorblade Retrieval Team wants to get Jezrien's honorblade back, they would be wise to bring at least one honorblade with them. Maybe, just maybe, we will see a fight that includes the Stone Shaman Elite, the Kholins, and the Skybreakers. Multiple honorblades. Surgebinding. Madness. If Nalan comes for Adolin's father, I suspect there will be far too much happening for us to see a direct comparison of Adolin and Nalan's dueling skills. They may match blades, but it won't be just them.
  2. Every time I see the list of unlocked content...
  3. Actually, you have to haggle like a Shin to get it. "Oh come on, that shirt must be worth more than twenty! Here, take $35." "No, no this shirt isn't worth $35. It's black, so it will be extra hot on a sunny day. Actually, you should only pay us $15." "Well, this money is wrinkled, so I should give you extra." (It was difficult for me to think of anything that they could use to bring the price down. I had to use some chullcrap excuse because I couldn't actually think of any legitimate criticism.)
  4. @Redbird3000 for you:
  5. I think it hasn't officially been released. There's no button to buy it, and part of Brandon's most recent post mentioned some new items in the store that will be announced on the 15th.
  6. Now I want to see 8bit Cinema do the Stormlight Archive.
  7. http://store.brandonsanderson.com/8-bit-szeth-t-shirt/ I NEED IT!
  8. Boo yah now I'm Newan

  9. Here's where I got November 28, but apparently it isn't very reliable. It changed to November 30 since the last time I checked. This article on Tor.com says November 28, but I'm guessing that it got that date from the amazon page too. If I'm understanding Peter correctly, this means we don't have a set-in-stone release date.
  10. Yeah I like the idea, but it does sound like it would be an astronomy club. And we want everybody who likes Brandon Sanderson to know about it. I think I am going to set it as Fans of Brandon Sanderson for now, so I can get the registration process started, and then if we want to, we can change it later.
  11. That one sounds really cool, but it runs into the same problem, that most people who know about Brandon Sanderson still don't know what the cosmere is. If we put Cosmere Philosophers on a flyer, people won't see that and think "epic fantasy literature".
  12. Thanks! Ok I can submit a form online to make it an official club at BYU. Though we will have non-cougars in the club, it will still be beneficial to have it as an official club, because then we can reserve a room to meet in. This means we have to choose a name. Here are some ideas: Fans of Brandon Sanderson. This is my current favorite, because it has a pronouncable acronym. FOBS. The biggest problem I can see with this one is that if someone is looking through an alphabetical list of clubs, it will be under "F" rather than "B". I really don't think this is a very big problem though, because if someone is actually looking for our club, they will probably just use a search engine. Brandon Sanderson Fan Club. Straightforward and descriptive, but kind of boring. Cosmere Club. Sounds cool, and has an alliteration, but most people don't know what the cosmere is. Sanderfan Club. This is probably a bad idea. I don't think the term "Sanderfan" is known outside of the forums.
  13. I'm thinking of changing my handle to Newan. I joined the forums nearly five months ago, so I'm not that new anymore. Plus, Newan just rolls off the tongue better. All in favor, say "Numuhukumakiaki'aialunamor"

    1. Kasimir

      Kasimir

      Numuhukumakiaki'aialunamor.

  14. I'd say it's at least good enough for us to start brainstorming what we will do when we meet. Here are some of my ideas. Games Sanderson Elimination LIVE: It's a simple RPG like Mafia or Werewolf, except with rules tweaked to fit into a Sanderson world. Tons of fun. Trivia Panels or round-table discussions Have a few people (who are at least slightly prepared) discuss something Sanderson-related. They could talk about anything from how his writing is changing the genre to their expectations for the future of the cosmere. Obviously if we did something like this, there would be lots of audience participation. I'm hesitant on this idea because I'm afraid it might end up like the Shardcast. Because the people who do Shardcast know each other so well, they almost always end up going off on tangents. But if we did this with a clear idea of what we were going to talk about, it could turn out well. Art FILKING: Filking is when a group of people sings fantasy-themed folk songs together. I've only done it once. At first I felt really out of place because I didn't know any of the tunes, but then I realized that nobody cared how my voice sounded. Once I got into it, it was a ton of fun. I don't know if there are very many Sanderson-related songs yet, but there are a few. And we could make more. Fan art: If anybody has done any fan art, they should bring it and show it off. This includes cosplay! Other ideas Chouta: I don't know how to make chouta. I will ask Breathtaker if his version turned out well. But it would be awesome if we made chouta. Do you guys like these ideas? Do you have any more ideas to add?
  15. Do any of you live near Provo? I'm thinking of attempting to create a Sanderfan Club to meet at BYU, and perhaps playing Sanderson Elimination LIVE. Do you guys think that would work well? It would be a lot more like real mafia, because you could try to figure out who was lying by looking at their faces. Unfortunately, there would be no PMs, because everybody would be sitting there in front of each other.
  16. Yay! Hmm... How many people do you think we should have interested before attempting to form a club? I have three friends who love Brandon's writing but aren't members of this forum. And Jabberwocky, I think that would be completely ok. There are other clubs at BYU who do that. I think the best thing for now is to keep talking about it and getting people interested. I know that there are plenty of Sanderfans in the area. They just need to have faith that this can work, and that it will be fun.
  17. When you get to try out Oculus Rift (it's a virtual reality headset for video games) and all you can think about is how awesome it would be to play Mistborn Birthright on it. Like, you could look around while you're flying through Luthadel and see all the keeps and it would just be soooo awesome! ...if Mistborn Birthright ever comes out.
  18. I'm an arbiter now. I'm going to arbit all over this place.

  19. I'm going by memory too, but I think that inquisitors each had four steel spikes, each of which gave a physical allomantic power. I don't think they had any iron spikes (blessings of potency). I think that if an inquisitor hadn't become a savant, it would be slightly weaker than the average natural mistborn because of Hemalurgic Decay. That just goes to show how powerful it is to be a savant.
  20. I try to resist the urge to think "Why would Szeth keep obeying his oathstone, even though Taravangian is using him for horrible purposes? It's obviously wrong," because Szeth was raised and conditioned to believe that the laws of his people were right. Imagine if your country and your religion were both telling you to do something that felt wrong to you. Some people would do it, and some people wouldn't. Who is being honorable? Both, under different definitions of honor.
  21. Yeah, when my brother read it, he thought of it as a burrito. When I read it, I thought of it as shawarma. Either way, it sounds really good. There's a word of Brandon that says Chouta is kind of like a mix between Latin American and Italian food, like sopapilla with meatballs. I've never had sopapilla before, but now I really want it.
  22. Well there's nothing technically wrong with it. You could also call it the Chronicles of Mistborn. But it just feels so wrong.
  23. Legion: Skin Deep is available in one month!
  24. Stormlight Archive 3: Shinovar Drift
  25. Yes. Except it doesn't look like there's enough interest to create this club. Dang it, I really want some chouta.
