  1. Finished "Best Served Cold". Not that bad, but only barely fantasy, more in the realm of historical fiction (need more magic...). Also, the protagonist seem to glow somewhat less selfish... OK, some requirement are spot on, though. Thanks for suggestion! What about some "going of age" book (as opposed to coming of age), where protagonist gets more childish and powerful as the book progresses?
  2. Thank you for your suggestion! Checking it out... And does he? (kill them and have fun, i mean?) Also, I am a little leery of dark/angsty books: my modd is easy to influence ( I had nightmares for days after reading Stephen King once. I have never touched another of his books)
  3. Hm.. Could somebody maybe make a a Wakfu account, so I could try to connect? Maybe it will work.
  4. Yes, they ask for acount name, password, username, and after everything is to order they give me the Captcha, and then they give me :"Registration failed! Arrgh!!You can't create an account This community is invalid" That is quite annoying. Also, the page is https, so simple web proxy won't load it.
  5. Indeed. Mobile Wiki still works, though
  6. Well, there was a scene where the whole of Shallan's blood was Soulcast, repeatedly. Also, 8 types of blood were mentioned. They use antiseptics, and performs all kinds of surgery (Kaladin's father) Just how good knowledge do you think they have? Also, transforming Essences (Blood, Flesh, Bone) is easy, easier that water.
  7. Hm, you are right. I even don't think there were joints, since jointed statues are weird, and wouldn't the joints get stuck after a hundred years. Makes one wonder if you can sew several body parts (from different people/animals) together and make a lifeless out of that, using one Breath, or do all bones have to belong to the same individual? If it is possible, then making a single-part Terminator is possible. But the process mentioned "forging Breaths into steel", so, well.. not sure how that would work.
  8. I guess that would depend on whether you can Soulcast one bone structure to another with enough skill so that you won't kill subject in the process. That won't be a disguise, though -a full, permanent transformation, like plastic surgery. Probably doable, but risky.
  9. I was going to try it out, but I cannot register an account. Probably region blocking. (It say something about invalid community when trying to register).
  10. You people tend to forget that science marches on. Maybe one day they will learn how to distill the mists into solid form, regardless of Sazed's reaction. Then they will have Atium and Lerasium (in some, probably limited quantities), so lack of Mistborn won't be a problem anymore.
  11. Worry not... Brandon himself has stated the he is "not the math kind of guy" in the annotations somewhere. Maybe he didn't calculate that way either. As for the Q&A, I am not sure. Maybe he misheard, but maybe only the first sentence was the actual answer, and the second clarification for the previous questions. Still, if you can go halfway out of bubble, that means you can stand with half of your brain working 10 times faster than the other. That is bound to feel weird.
  12. Simple, actually: you have not calculated in just how much energy increase that will result. You did use the word exponential, you know. But exponential to the (approximately) square of the time differential (multiplier) will result in the above: any velocity will be multiplied by the number larger that the size of the visible universe, resulting in relativistic bullets . Which is not the case observed in books. So the mechanism of the transfer is then different, sorry. Also, Brandon said: Which implies that at least a human is all the way in when he is halfway in [EDIT] Whoops, didn't see the link. Please wait a bit. ... OK. Two errors: you sum velocities instead of energies, necessary to achieve said velocities. It is like you would have accelerated the outside half (disregarding inside part), and then glued them together. Second: A whole half is too much Try doing the same thing with quarters - the results will be different, 1/8th - again different, etc. In order to get the real results, you need to take infinitely small parts, and integrate. That is because the speed of the pole changes while it reaches the "half-out" position.
  13. You have reasons to doubt: I can make mistakes, you know. Still, I have rechecked this. If you can get anyone else to look at it, I would welcome an opinion. I, however, am alone here (Like in, no friends close enough to talk too when I feel like it). As for the number 100: it is simple. If we get time slowdown by the factor of 10, the velocity increase should also be ten, so that 1 m/s on the outside corresponds to 10 m/s on the inside POV. The energy (kinetic) is proportional to squared velocity, so the energy of the piece on the inside is dm*v^2/2, outside is dm*(v*10)^2/2=dm*100*v^2/2 2nd: no. For differentials (dv,dm), the square in the presence of a first-power is considered insignificant, since dv is infinitely small, and its square is essentially multiplied by zero. If only squares are present, then they count, but any power above do not. Also, in formula: dv/dm=99*v/M, on the right hand side there are only non-differential quantities: total mass of an object, and current velocity of an object. So the result is non-zero. The left-hand side is a derivative of velocity in respect to mass outside the bubble. The solution is classic (exponential increase,as you said)
  14. I am inclined to agree. It is just that my first impression was that they have invented commands that change physical structure of an object, creating a lifeless with one breath and blood turned to ichor-alcohol. I see that that is probably wrong. Well, just because Vasher does not know how, doesn't mean it cannot be done. Also, what about parts of you that are dead? The upper layer of epidermis, hair, nails, calcified parts of the bones? Or liquid? Can you Awaken a pool of blood, drained from a person? I would think that... maybe. Well, Terminator will probably have several parts, so possibly more than 1000. Will it require more breath to make it active? Will Hallandor become a scorched, cursed wasteland, where those that dare thread are stripped of their Breath and incinerated? Maybe it is a good thing that so few people actually know the Awakening process for steel.
  15. Right... Disregarding for the moment the question of losing energy on bubbling, let's do the math. OK, the math is relatively simple, and goes completely by your words (correct me if I am wrong). We assume that once the part has exited the bubble, it is no longer affected by the bubble forces, so only the mass currently exiting is affected by acceleration. Then, as an infinitely small mass dm attempts to exit, it gains energy sufficient for acceleration from velocity v (inside the bubble) to velocity 10*v (going with 10x cadmium). The energy differential is then: dm*(100*v^2-v^2)/2=dm*99*v^2/2. This energy is instead distributed to the whole object with total mass M, resulting in velocity increase dv, so that we can say: dm*99*v^2/2=M*((v+dv)^2-v^2)/2 (equal energy gain) Expanding and simplifying the equations: dm*99*v^2=M*(2*v*dv+dv^2), and, since dv is infinitely small, dv^2 does not count (differential equations making), resulting in: dm*99*v^2=2*M*v*dv, dv/dm=99*v/M, a simple differential equation. With a starting velocity of an object v0, we get: v=v0*exp(99*m/M), where m is the mass of an object that is outside the bubble. If the whole object exits, m=M, so: v=v0*exp(99), which mean that any objects going at velocity of, say, 1 m/s will instantly accelerate to near light speed on exit . Which does not seem to happen, and means that your theory have some holes somewhere. Feel free to point out errors in my assumptions.
  16. Hm. Well, sorry I am late. Two problems (for simplicity) with the theory: 1. For a part of an object to leave a bubble, part has to enter, losing energy. Also, creating a cadmium bubble lowers the energy of all objects inside ( velocity drop) 2. By your theory, objects leaving bendalloy bubbles will lose energy. I have done the math , and the loss only depends on velocity. Energy drop is bound by zero. This would lead to two unobserved effects: bullets stopping on the border, and air temperature dropping fast (the velocity of air molecules at room temperature is, afaik, faster than a bullet )
  17. I wonder a few things: 1. After rereading the book I am still not sure if Vasher has pumped the squirrel corpse full of ichor beforehand, or his command actually made the blood into it. 2. I wonder if you can Awaken something already alive, like, for example your hand, giving it additional strength, etc. Also if you can pump breaths into something immaterial, like your own shadow 3. A sword is good, but it lacks mobility. Wonder how many breaths it would take to create a full Terminator, and give him a simple command, say , "Burninate!". Also, didn't Brandon mention that a wealth of the Breaths held at the moment of death (by Arsteel) accounts for increased humanity of Clod?
  18. Sazed? Well, I still think that the sphere contained "voidlight", and that part of the voidbinding is creating /animating living things ( Thuderclasts, Midnight Essences). Also, just now an idea crossed my mind: what if this light is connected to the black smoke that comes out of Nightblood and peoples eyes when they are killed by shardblades, and which I think are the shredded/corrupted souls?
  19. Hm... Well, pride is another root, I guess, although maybe arrogance fits better for me. Shard intents seem to vary in style somewhat. Honor is undirected, hard to define quality. Ruin, preservation and endowment are directed towards something, and are not really human attributes. So pride may be a shard, actually, why not? The seven shardly sins...
  20. Sounds evil to me. What is he doing visiting those tribes anyway? Studying the effects of radiation his bomb has released? That is, I am still of opinion that secrets are the second root of evil. (Necessary evil sometimes, though).
  21. OK, got it. Thank you! I'll try reading it now. [EDIT] Finished reading. Not the best of the books. I fear I have forgotten to add additional stipulations to my request. I shall fix this error with all haste.
  22. It is mentioned that his skill is sufficient to almost distinguish colors by metal content of a material.: So I don't think thickness was much of a problem. Although why does his sight separate lines belonging to the same sheet of metal, instead of giving a single thick line.. Must be acuity level, same that allows him to see metals inside bodies.
  23. Are you sure about longer shelf life? Especially considering that they don't use pure anhydrous alcohol (which is rather painful to drink), so it is essentially water/alcohol mixture, with a few acids thrown in for a good measure. Why not use something like a Pez dispenser for small tablets of metal, anyways? Or cooking oil (it is quite drinkable. I tried.)
  24. There is a followup question that has been bothering me for a while: Why do they put metals in alcohol? Alcohol reacts with metals better than water, so part of the metal becomes alkoxide salt solution. What is more, the alloys become just a mixed solutions. So, do these solutions work, or is metal wasted when dissolved? If they work, then crystal structure is not important. If not, then putting metals in water is much more economic. [EDIT] OK, so the reaction is slow, comparable with water. Still, part of the metal dissolves, etc. So, why alcohol?
  25. I think i remember reading that people from other worlds do not have inborn Hemalurgy, so just spiking them won't work. Maybe ingesting atium gives that ability (to be spiked, that is ) Also, #20 does not have a followup "What do the children look like? "
