  1. Malazan Book of the Fallen was ok series for me, but it had a few moments that really derailed the story for me (especially the Felisin fiasco) The relatively recent series that I have disliked was the one that started by Mazerunner, which was recommended (i think) on the Brandons blog. The ending was.. ridiculous. Sword of Truth, oh yes, sword of truth. I got to book 5, I think, when the series lost any semblance of sense altogether. They seemed to invent a new power per a book, too. Never read "Hunger Games", but assume from the name that they would suck for me. Can't recall any others at the moment.
  2. Then you should join our party, and we should name it (ooc) "The Asylum". Since right now we have: a cleric that hears voices in the head, a wizard that cannot lie and goes wacko each time he takes damage in battle, and a ranger that is paranoid about aberrations, the sanest one. Come, join us, and together .. you know the rest;)
  3. Abandoned Shop -Alleyway Seynir Ok, that is suspicious. "So, what should we do? We have several options: investigate the hole that looks like it leads into a thirds hideout, ignore the hole and try to lose ourselves in the city, try to widen the hole somehow. If we do go inside, I suggest neutralizing anything that even looks hostile, though. The place does not look trustworthy" I am on edge, am I not. Need to calm down I mutter a short mantra in Draconic.
  4. He has a character, right? Wait, do you mean without pasokon? There are people like that? Well, you could let him post from yours, if that is so.
  5. Now if only about 10% of them had a character... Also, a meat shield that is not a cleric (say, a barbarian) would be nice, too.
  6. Abandoned Shop -Alleyway Seynir The guards in this town appear to be deaf, blind AND stupid. Also, with no sense of smell. I still can't get the smell of that blood out of my nostrils, and I just smelled sewers. Still, cleric speaks sense. "Could be better, but you are right. Let's get out of here." I carefully walk to the alleyway's mouth and look outside. "Luckily for us, the commotion seems to have drawn most people from this street, for now." "Also, if we are going into the dungeon, does anyone have any experience with traps? I must confess, my knowledge is minimal."
  7. Abandoned Shop -Alleyway Seynir OK, something was wrong with the cleric right now. His tone changed in mid-sentence, and he looked like he was struggling against something. I wonder if I should ask him about it... But he may not want to answer, and I dislike secrets. I'll let it pass for now. "Well, let us head to the exit opposite from the tavern's entrance, then.", I say, turning in that direction. I have rolled too I have tried to Spot with DC 15, and succeeded: Roll
  8. Abandoned Shop Seynir I watch as the cleric runs to to door and then performs a spectacular dive out of our line of attack, and... Nothing in particular happens. The alleyway seems to be as empty as it looked from the window, with the exception of a few rats and a cat, which promptly disappear into the shadows. I wait for a few seconds to see if something comes to investigate the sound of a crash, then head outside, passing Umieri and looking around. "Seems clear to me" Umieri, do you dive inside or outside? I am not sure. Ah, ok, modified my post accordingly
  9. Abandoned Shop Seynir I position myself so not to spoil the ranger's aim, and look questioningly at Umieri. "I need some space between potential attacker and myself to cast spells. So... Ready whenever you are."
  10. Abandoned Shop Seynir "Sure, if I had it prepared. Which I don't . By the way, i can only cast 4 spells for the rest of today. I can distract someone with a summoned skeleton for about 5 seconds, daze someone for about the same time, and conjure about half-flask of acid. But that is about it before I rest. "
  11. Abandoned Shop Seynir "Well, I, for one, do not fancy going through more of malodorous substances. Also when we finally do get out, it will be very obvious where we were. I say we go out through back door." I examine the slime, find a patch of what seems most diluted, at least in respect to smell, and moisten my hair with it, dulling the color. Then I pull my cowl up, and peek between the boards covering the nailed window near the back door. "It seems like an empty alleyway from here. Maybe we can avoid attracting attention that way. By the way, Umieri, you may want to consider covering your mark. It is quite distinctive."
  12. Thanks! I have rather hoped it will promote discussion, feel free to add corrections and your own ideas.
  13. Starry Dragon Seynir "You are quite good at this," I say to Umieri. "Should we proceed then? There are better places to discuss planar travel, I believe. "
  14. Starry Dragon Seynir "Great. The way things are going I would not be surprised if there are more people from your home planes around here. Now, before the barkeep turns out to be a lich king in disguise (yes, they can disguise themselves as human quite easily, although I have never before heard about one posing as a barkeep),how do we get out of here? Breaking through the wall is bound to attract attention of the every last passerby, so I hope one of you has other method of egress in mind, or at least a way to deflect attention from the hole for a while. Unfortunately, I have no spells prepared that may aid us."
  15. Starry Dragon Seynir I could tell.. but his origins are his to divulge, I guess. I'll resist for now. "You know, Striax, the same question may be applied to you. Given your certain ignorance concerning local customs, I don't think you are from around here. I am not sure if you are even from this plane, although I cannot be certain. This place seems to be a conflux of extraplanar activity, no doubt because of the dungeon messing up natural plane alignment."
  16. Starry Dragon Seynir I follow the cleric, pausing only to give 5 sp to the barkeep. This should pay for the damages to the floor and corpse removal, and may make him less inclined to set the guard on our tail. After the door is barred, I (re) introduce myself. "I am Seynir, the wizard. That is my only name."
  17. Starry Dragon Seynir So I was supposed to let it wake up? Sigh. I rise to my feet. "Very well. Lead on."
  18. Starry Dragon Seynir "Given that he has roared his intention to attack us for the whole tavern to hear, I somehow doubt they did not notice. Also, what about persuasive power of blackish, acidic blood that is etching a hole in the floor? Still, of you all think we should go, maybe we should. Of course, that just might make us wanted men. What do you think?" I ask cleric.
  19. Starry Dragon Seynir To elf: "Well, as you see, it was not human, it was attacking, and it was about to wake up, which I hope I have prevented by damaging his arteries. You can never be sure about the abilities of such things, so I sought to neutralize it as soon as possible.", I explain. "Now, I suggest we explain this attack to the guards, if they do come. In the meanwhile, I wonder what he (or it) was peddling." I glance at the body. The smell is certainly unappetizing. Still, when the commotion dies down, I would like an opportunity to examine it and maybe collect some samples. I turn my attention to the scroll, attempting to check it for magic traps.
  20. Starry Dragon Seynir Right. Maybe I should try calming own the crowd. But first... I quickly draw my dagger and slit the drunk's throat, then address the onlookers: "Did you see how he has attacked us without provocation, after even a free drink from us? I can tell without a doubt that he was possessed by the evil from nether planes, that has likely escaped from the vile dungeon up North. But worry not, this threat has been dealt with now" Well, maybe not possessed, but close enough. I hope that will calm them down. I sit back down, and carefully examine the scroll the dead critter has left on the table.
  21. Starry dragon Seynir The "drunk" seems focused on the elf, but he still stand half-turned to me. I withdraw a handful of fine, abrasive volcanic sand from my spell pouch and throw it into the drunks eyes and open mouth just as he inhales, retaining a pinch and starting to cast a sleep spell targeted so to affect only drunk.
  22. Starry Dragon Seynir Now, that is refreshingly direct. Bizarre, sure, but not without merit. Also, he probably does. And if he does, he will likely attack. I finish eating and reach to my spell component pouch under the table.
  23. Starry Dragon Seynir I blink at the cleric. "Truth is truth. No thanks necessary. Although, maybe you could tell me your name in exchange. You never mentioned it." I turn to the elf, while keeping an eye on the drunk. "I don't know where you come from, but around here red is more common than the bright green of my hair. Yet nobody calls me an aberration. Of course, I am a wizard, so maybe they just don't pay attention."
  24. Starry Dragon Seynir "Well, he seems to share some aspects with a man of fiendish descent. Maybe he thought you were addressing him." Also, he seems pissed. I'd better get ready for a brawl
  25. Hm.. I don't have much of that. I'll go by the "look like a fiend" aspect (Planes).
