Starry Dragon Seynir "What you are telling about does, indeed seem to be a better system than our. Unfortunately, it needs stability and some kind of centralized government to function. Here, when one wants to have a castle, and have 100000 gold, it is often the case that rather than buying a castle, one spends 10000-20000 gold, hires a mercenary band, or forms his own band of adventures, and takes the castle in question. Likewise, you know that adventures go to dragon's hoard like files to the honey. Unfortunately, the opposite is often true. Trouble goes to large concentration of gold like to nothing else. Orcs, barbarians, young dragons seeking to build a hoard. So, I've read that one kingdom not too far from here tried to institute a banking system like you describe. They've got banking houses, which they thought to be well protected. Within a year, a veritable horde of about 50 juvenile black dragons descended on the city. Whatever has riled them to attack at the same time is still unclear, but the results were. The town was razed, and afterwards the dragons turned to infighting. Most of the gold was ruined, the earth has absorbed so much acid that nothing grows there still (I've been to the ruins myself), and most of the dragons were dead. The banking system did not survive for much longer. Although the concept surely is fascinating." I glance around again. The senile, narcoleptic barkeep seems to be nodding off at the bar. My stew and water are NOT forthcoming. I briefly consider casting a lesser acid orb to reinvigorate him, but decide against it for the moment, so not to interrupt conversation. It has been a while since I talked with somebody that was my intellectual equal... or conversed with somebody period. "By the way, now that you are here, what are you planning to do?"

I remember what we were doing I was wandering in the direction of the atium supply in the caverns. Emeralis [sorry, forgot the name] was showing Baron around. The thing is, some of the lore (like investiture lore) has advanced somewhat (although many of the points have not been resolved). So I think we'll need a story jump a bit.

Starry Dragon Seynir "True, people are largely the same everywhere. We may not have had a large war, but we sure have many small ones." I wince, remembering what I was told about the raid that has claimed my parents' life. "I don't understand why you are calling the value of gold 'shaky' - the prices certainly stayed fixed long enough for them to be used as a quantity measurement for spell components, but I must admit that I know little about economics." "You are saying, however, that much of the arcane advancements in your world are based on 'Dragonshards'. I am guessing that you don't have any with you? That makes that particular knowledge largely useless, under the circumstances." I glance around. The barkeep is certainly tardy with my order, and I am getting thirsty. "I am somewhat confused, though. You are speaking about eldritch machines as of something that exists, yet you posit that the structure of your universe prevents their creation. How can that be?"
-
Starry DragonSeynir Ah. No immediate hostility. Good. I take a seat. "Yes, I am Seynir, a wizard. If I remember correctly, that sign seems to indicate that you are, probably, a cleric of Good." "Unfortunately, that is nearly the extent of my knowledge. I know that your world is named Eberron, that there people may spontaneously manifest magic markings like the one on your hand, and that it is more advanced than our one in many ways." "It is a pity that you didn't come here willingly, since that would have indicated a possible way back, and I would have liked to visit. Still..." It may be to the best. I need companions, and the dungeon may contain artifacts that will help him to return, or even anew exit right to his home universe. Maybe I'll be able to persuade him. But first... "So as a wizard, I am curious. Your kind are usually quite rare here, and I would really like to hear about your world, especially the arcane arts in it."
-
Starry Dragon. Seynir I walk into another tavern. It is getting rather late, and I am tired. Curiosity and my some results research demand that I enter the dungeon to the north, but I know I cannot do it alone. It has been a long time since I was forced to attend such a large congregation of people, much less actually talk to some, so I am apprehensive. I have visited several taverns, but so far I have not encountered anybody who looked like he (or she) would be a suitable ally in my adventure. Truth to be thought, most people around these parts look downright suspicious. As I enter, a figure sitting near the corner attracts my attention. He is looking at the mug full of local ale as if thinking that it might bite him. Understandable, but that is not what interests me. On his hand, there is a curious birthmark or tattoo that triggers something in my memory. I have seen something like that before, not on the person, but in the book... I concentrate, trying to remember. Ah, yes, the book that spoke of the wanderers from another universes, that sometimes visit our own. I look more carefully (people have been known to call that an unsettling stare, and, although I know better, I try to conceal my attention), and notice a wooden symbol on the table near his hand. That settles it, and I can feel curiosity stirring within me. He is alone here, and, judging by that symbol, should at least hesitate killing a stranger, so I approach his table (after ordering a stew and mug of water) and address him, trying to be polite: "Excuse me. It seems that you are not from this plane, at least. If I am correct, was your travel here a willing one?"

Thus confirming all my suspicions about the humanity decay and corruption... Also, rationally speaking, baiting all goblins so they would congregate and then dispatching them with a single fireball which won't kill the meatshield seems like a valid strategy to me.

So....who wants to play some D&D?
Satsuoni replied to Eerongal's topic in World's 17thShardest Dungeon
Your soul is forfeit Why not use direct download? since my torrents stopped working properly, I have almost completely shifted to them. -
Ah, right. I remember now, it was in the Death Sphere homebrew(tome of fiends) . I stumbled upon it when I searched for Warlock on Google.(you could be healed by negative energy without changing your positive affinity)

I'd say we are lacking a thief... or a trap springer, at least. -
Yes, Sir Meatshield #2! Could you please attract those goblins while I prepare my AoE spells? Seriously, I expect to die very soon, even before I can become undead. (and arise as a dread necromancer). BTW, is there any feat/ability combo that will allow me to be healed by positive AND negative energy?

"High" wisdom? No particular reason,no (actually, I kinda forgot about it). Also, found some equipment tables, so I am good, I guess. Thanks!

A combination of unusual intelligence and childish sensitivity, allowed to understand concepts of aging and mortality very early, scarring and shaping his perceptions of the world. Equally afraid and fascinated by death, he has decided to devote himself to Wizardry as possible means of obtaining immortality, or quick death, whichever comes first. This outlook has also shaped his interaction with other people. He rarely forms empathic bond, but is quite protective of those that he does. On the flip side, he cannot care less about people outside his circle, and will gladly sacrifice a few hundred innocents if it means one of his friends coming back to life (or so he says to himself). His pursuit if knowledge has lead him to the entrance of WLD, where he hopes to pursuit his knowledge of arcane arts, focused on immortality and destruction (for self-defense, obviously). ... Idiosyncrasies: Due to a close emphatic link between a familiar and himself , cannot bear the idea of putting it in danger, so the familiar never participates in battles/scouting/etc. (Just a HP buff, essentially) Eats monsters, especially new species encountered. Finds it very hard to speak lies in any form (can still joke, if certain that the joke is perceived as such. clarifies otherwise): bluff, diplomacy penalty. (Lying, or at least concealing own feelings is essential for diplomacy, IMO) OK, this is my first D&D character, so don't judge too harshly, please. Wishlist:

Just a couple of possibilities/suggestions on the topic (strictly IMO): 1. The Ten Fools are leaders/champions of Odium, opposites of Heralds (another possibility: Fools ARE Heralds, just called that by the opposing side or because of their quitting, and then separated by passage of time) 2. The Surgebinders use power themselves, channeling stormlight through their bodies (possibly directing it outside, but they are the source). The voidbinders are kind of opposite/cannot use Void without repercussions (see below). So they summon/create separate creatures to house the power, resulting in Ten Deaths: Thunderclasts (melee, stone), Midnight Essence (sneak attack, smoke), and others. Some other may be less stable or leave no bodies after death, or even not used on battlefield. 3. The Unmade are well, unmade, probably from humans. They are much stronger and rare. Maybe the Voidbinder that misuses (or overuses) Void becomes one, maybe it requires a willing host, or several humans. The process usually drives the result completely mad with hate and hunger, etc. (Although the possibility exists that Ten Deaths and Unmade are one and the same. Then Yelignar probably air or soul elemental) Just some ideas.

So....who wants to play some D&D?
Satsuoni replied to Eerongal's topic in World's 17thShardest Dungeon
Reading Tome of Magic. Maybe I should consider a Truenamer class... Choosing a class is even harder than I thought, given I have no knowledge of game dynamics. (For example, I still can't see what use is the wizard after he runs out of spells for a day) -

Ok, I have discovered that I was reading about the wrong Warlock. Is this one legit? Reading Complete Arcane now. -

Satsuoni replied to Eerongal's topic in World's 17thShardest Dungeon
Ok! I gave the classes a quick read, and I agree that Warlock seems to be a right choice, at first. Can I still become a lich after some levels, or do I need to multiclass as a wizard? (just asking) To Thor: I was not aware that munchkin became derogatory. What I meant was that I prefer direct approach of crushing the enemies, and destroying what I cannot use rather than guile and stealth. Ok, ninja'd probably. Ah. Well, I can't say I remember which school does what. But really, at least some abilities that I dOn't need to count sound pretty good. Also, I really need to get to sleep now (Tokyo time zone ) -

Satsuoni replied to Eerongal's topic in World's 17thShardest Dungeon
Yes, please. I want to give it a try. From reading the related media, I believe I am a style of player termed "munchkin", and I like spell casters, and being able to survive collateral damage from indiscriminate AoE. Recommendations for character? -
What about the Truthspren bond? They can still bind and give powers, as well, and require nothin in the way of honor - just truths,or rather secrets.

So....who wants to play some D&D?
Satsuoni replied to Eerongal's topic in World's 17thShardest Dungeon
I kinda wanted to try out D&D, but I've never played proper tabletop RPG (the ones with rules), so I am kinda afraid... (Don't know the rules, either). -
I have once posited that Entropy in Cosmere is related to the Shardic intent within its realm of influence, and that the entropic maximum shifts (locally) with the interpretation of this Intent. And have since edit-deleted the post since nobody responded Except, there wasn't, at least in the description: I agree.

I have reread the soulcasting scenes, and I don't think that soulcasting is mass conservative. It just states that a big boulder became a lot of smoke, not that their masses were equal. In fact, the mass-conservation does not make sense: the statues resulting from transformation are at least 7~10 times as dense (I think), so they should become either small or very hollow/porous. I don't think that is the case. If it is, please correct me (with quotes).

Allomancy in the Zombie Apocalypse
Satsuoni replied to MerryBerry's topic in General Brandon Discussion
You know, this is offtopic, but I don't think anybody has discussed the effects of pushing or pulling objects outside the bubble. What does the slowdown of metal bits feel like for the Coinshot? Now back on topic: I'd probably board my Allomantic FTL craft, and run like a chicken! Or, barring that, go on Hemalurgic rampage to collect all powers, preferably finishing off bitten survivors before they turn. I may die, but I will die mad, happy and powerful! Re:Elantris spoiler -
Also, I am not sure if you understand the difference between a gun and Mistborn push. (Sorry if I am wrong). In the gun, the force is applied to the bullet only inside the barrel, afterwards it decelerates due to air resistance. The mistborn push applies a (probably weaker) force continuously until either the Allomancer stops pushing, or metal goes out of range. The effect is similar to poking the enemy with an extending stick. You won't get much recoil when you are poking air, but try poking a wall, and you will be pushed back, the force of the push distributed more or less equally along your mass.

Horrible but true... It is a mistake. Even if tin enhances steelsight, darkness has nothing to do with it, since he does not use light to see. To Eric: It is probably possible to at least dull the pain considerably by storing senses.
