So....who wants to play some D&D?
Satsuoni replied to Eerongal's topic in World's 17thShardest Dungeon
Yes. BTW, do acid attacks reduce AC on metal armors? The holes left after some acid balls of 5d6 or so should be quite spectacular. Ed: I am thinking about Chaos Mage from mongoose. Or maybe something else. I don't know about balance, having never played. -

Is that increase in quality or quantity, or both? Like, I can only summon weak/ organic acids on low levels, and progress to Tsar Vodka (you call it Aqua regia, i believe)? Or do I make a bigger ball? or both? Nah, I wasn't bluffing, I would have paid to see them cut their hands off. Totally serious there. Let us assume I have made spares. -

So, lets assume a dragon (lvl 50-60 or so) speak to us (in Draconic) "If you surrender, I'll eat your friends and keep you as pets". Wonder how we should roleplay that. No particular reason, excepting a few mistakes I made in the "Hear ye" thread (I have assumed that the bones are consumed, mixing this spell with one eberron variant, thus the hand with a few missing fingers) Since I have not received an answer from you, I just used the focus in my demonstration. The only issue with the mechanics would be if I lose my spell pouch during the day I need to use the spell, since I'll have to take time to carve bones before using. I don't think that will come up often. Hm? Acid splash is 1d3, vial of acid : 1d6 (+1 for splash damage). So, about half a vial. They should use summon subtype, or duration: 0.1 sec then Not instant creation. What about an orb of Force? Well, in case of force ... I kind of assume that once created, the materials decay into equilibrium with normal physics quite soon, like the acid splash becomes affected by gravity, etc. Like Soulcasting someone to flame: - for a few moments the shape is retained, then physics takes over and it dissipates, smoke diffuses, unless contained, etc. -
[OOC]Fine. Assume that I have answered his questions and went to sleep, then prepped my spells.[/OOC]

Well, if you make one, let me know. I am not very good at starting threads.

Discreet Room Seynir "A very small piece. Also, I tried to leach the poisons caused by decomposition. I should have thought about negative energy component before that, though. Stupid mistake, but I was sick for a while"
-
Discreet Room Seynir [To Umieri]:"Sure, I'll take the first watch. I still have to finish packing and practice some spells." I carefully check the blade of my scalpel. Satisfied, i wipe it with alcohol and replace it in my robe, within easy reach, then move on to dagger. Finished with my weapons and instruments, I turn to Turjan. "Since I tend to forget the spells when I sleep, I tend to cast them in the evening, before going to rest, for practice. In the dungeon I may have to dispense with this habit, lest I am awakened by something unfriendly without any arcane defense. So, look if you want." I rummage a bit in my spell pouch, and extract a part of human shoulder blade, intricately carved, and a candle in a small sack. "This is a summoning spell. As you can see, it operates partially on the sympathy principle, as many spells with material foci do. In this case the candle and the sack represent reaching out through planes, if I understand it correctly, and the bone provides a sympathy focus for a summoned creature" I concentrate, feeling the energy of the arcane Weave around me, wincing, as usual, at its fragility, and start drawing energy from it, directing it with the help of an intricate pointing gesture with the hand holding the bone ,and controlling it with some garbled variant of Draconic. I feel the border between the planes grow thin near me, and switch my focus to the bone to align with one of the planes "inhabited" by the undead. The border rips momentarily, and a human skeleton complete with mace appear nearby. Due to a long practice, all this takes less than 10 seconds. I don't give any command to a skeleton, and soon it disappears, the planes reclaiming their own, and the borders regrowing. "Like that. Mind you , I have no idea why they carry weapons there, but this was a summon from one of the planes saturated by negative energy that supports the undead creatures." "Next is a simple cantrip, that, however, have many uses." I retrieve an empty vial from my sack, and speak a quick incantation, trying to pronounce it as clearly as possible. About half a flask worth of clear liquid appear within. I sniff at it, and quickly replace the stopper. "A lesser acid orb spell, used to conjure acetic acid. Diluted, it may provide the finest quality vinegar. And speaking of vinegar, I believe that the taste of an orc may be improved, if the meat is soaked in ginger-vinegar mixture for about an hour." I notice a quick wince passing Turjan's face. "Yes, I know that many people find the practice ... unappealing, and that is quite so. However, in this case, I say "waste not, want not". If the choice is between eating a fresh orc in your tower, or going into orc-infested forest to kill some other creature, I'll eat orc, thank you very much. As such, I tend to check new species that I kill for one reason or another for edibility, just in case, although I try to avoid obviously poisonous ones." I blink. "My research indicates that you can't cook the poison out of a ghoul, or most other undead, though." "Well. Any questions?"

Satsuoni replied to Eerongal's topic in World's 17thShardest Dungeon
What? You don't know? That does not bode well... Also, it looks like I've made a mistake. I thought finger bones were material components of summon undead rather than a focus. A pity. Edit: So, could I cast a variant spell : one with prepped carved bones a focus, other with unprepped as a mat component? Please? Edit2: founds a new confirmation that acid created through acid splash spell persists: (from d2srd): Acid splash duration is instantaneous, subschool creation. -

Ok, I'll check. Btw, in that world, is arcane magic also weave- based ( the same weave that has caused 4th edition by its failure )? -

Ah, right. Thought so. So, what class is he? Can I teach him cantrips? Is he likely to explode from spell mishap anytime soon? -

Hm. Don't remember it. The chars name resembles Trojan, btw. Is that coincidence too? -
Discreet Room Seynir "That is good, although I would prefer a little more details about your skill set. For example, can you cook? And if you do, do you know how to get that foul aftertaste out of the orc meat? Also, can you cast spells, or is your interest purely theoretical? What manner of weapons do you cary? Can you sneak? Can you lie? What questions do you want answered, so I could prepare?" [OOC]I am going to fix my acquisitions, then.[/OOC]

Well, actually, the "jokes" are a byproduct of theory making, so only one other: [shallan] (barely getting out of Shadesmar alive) (to Spren): I hate you! [spren] This is true. [shallan] NoOoO (faints) [spren] Humans. No sense of humor whatsoever. As an aside, you know, I don't think I have seen many in-cosmere jokes around, although they seem to crop out from time to time. Maybe there should be a separate thread.

BTW, Eerongal , What do you think of mongoose publishing books? There were quite a few good classes there , like chaos wizard and rules lawyer. -
Discreet room Seynir "I don't mind answering questions, but how about you answer some first? First off, what are your skills? Second, why such interest in all things magical? I am Seynir, if you didn't know"
-
Discreet Room Seynir "Very well." I stop packing spices, and walk to the door. Pulling the lever activating the opening mechanism, I quickly step out of line of fire.
-
Thanks! Want more? And yes, it can be interpreted that way, too. The diversity of opinions increases the probability that one of the is right, so

Well, I base the theory that symbolheads are Shallan-only on the following statements by Jasnah: (emphasis mine)and: So, in the first statement Jasnah says that they share an ability (soulcasting). In the second, however, she says "you", not "we", implying that only Shallan uses these particular spren. Besides, only two KR orders could soulcast, not just anybody who sees/ talks to them. Also, going on the wild tangent [warning : stupid joke-like sentences ahead] : as the relationship between Shallan and spren progresses, and spren no longer has to ask her explicitly: [shallan] (after a hard day's work) (to herself) Boy, I am hungry. [spen] This is true (sucks Shallan into Shadesmar) [shallan] Oops. Note to self - always carry infused spheres. *Glurgh* (drowning in the Bead Sea)

[Equipment considerations]I think I'll take one 10 foot pole (2 sp, 8 lb), 100 chalks (1gp), 1 flint steel (1 gp), sewing needle (5sp) and thread (free?), 3 vials (3gp, 0.3 lb), lamp (1 sp, 1 lb), 2 pint of oil (2sp,2 lb) , salt (2cp, 1/8 lb), ginger (5 gp, 1/32 lb) (pepper is too expensive), basil (1sp, 1/16 lb), raisins (1gp, 1 lb) (12 gp 1sp 2cp, 12 7/32 lb) Thoughts? Additions? ( I can carry about 3 lb more easily) [/EC]

Well, maybe. But you can lose your personality without losing sentience, you know. It is a little hard for Humans to imagine, but possible .
-
Ah, well, we don't. But we can make a spike on-site!Just bring a supply of scadrial inhabitants with you. And while Atium does not have natural deposits on Roshar, nothing stops us from bringing some with you, if Sazed lets you have it (it being part of his body, and all) We'll have have to agree to disagree on these points, probaly. I, for one, think that Secretspren are, in fact, Shallans bond spren, and that they are different from Jasnah's spren, whatever those are. Also, I believe tat they are a distinct subspecies from Syl. Syl, IMO, was a physical realm-based spren, originally without intelligence (which she borrows from Kaladin later). The symbolhead, on the other hand, are Cognitive-based spren, which may not be even able to influence physical realm without help, but they have intelligence originally, so they explain to potential bondees the process, since they want the bond (no idea why. Toaccess the physical realm? Just for kicks? For identity, since they may be sentience without identity?) Also, the bond with the Shallan is probably not complete yet, so it need more of her secrects to complete it.

No, I know that. What I am not sure about, is whether Hemalurgy would steal Strenth from Kaladin, since: So, no preservation- no stealing. But here is another part of my theory - Hemlurgy can be transferred, too You kill someone on Scadrial (with atium spike, just to be sure), and spike someone on Roshar -and then you can steal his strength by spiking him with Iron. Pretty wasteful, though.
-
Well, several reasons, many of which have been already mentioned in the threads, including this one. The first that she somehow appears without being seen, and if we accept that plate corresponds to KR order, that she was Stonewarden. Next was the mention of the protruding rock: So, I have mentioned that there is at least a possibility that she used the rock as an exit point, possibly traveling through bedrock somehow. Given that most of the Roshar is rock, that would allow Stonewardens access to just about anywhere. Mind you, that is just a possibility, since there is not enough evidence for it. Also, there is mention of Shinovar Stone Shamans, which may have abilities of Stonewardens, just as Szeth has the abilities of a Windrunner. That would allow them ability to get the Shardblade back from almost anywhere, if they could locate it, and might explain why the stone is revered like this in Shinovar (since there is soil, the Shamans can only come out of bare rocks, and a sight of a figure emerging from stone protrusion in, say , the field should certainly generate enough awe for some level of worship, at least. If they also have regrowth, well...) Hard to say. You see, there is always a question : will the very same magic work for somebody outside Roshar? Just as nobody knows if Human Attribute Hemalurgy would work if the "donor" is not from Scadrial - they don't have Preservation in them, so what is it stealing? Honor? It is possible, but unlikely. So, in this case, sDNA gives you not the magic, but the possibility to do magic. For the person from Roshar that means, if he/she follows the ideal (honor, honesty, possibly faith?, etc), the spren may be attracted, and give him/her some spren qualities (feeding off stormlight, spren abilities), in exchange for some human qualities (sentience in case of Syl, something else (maybe identity?) in case of Secretspren). But if a person from Scadrial comes to Roshar, that won't work. So in a way, possibly, Snapping in Allomancy is similar to Bonding in surgebinding. And just as all people on Scadrial have potential for Hemalurgy, so do all (or most) people of Roshar have potential for Surgebinding. Soryy, got carried away again. I'll try to contain myself better next time.

OK. Just let me get that equipment list. Everything is so expensive (and heavy...) Ten foot pole (spider) : 35 gp.. Meh.
