Least favourite character in cosmere?
Satsuoni replied to Straff Venture's topic in Cosmere Discussion
I plead insanity! That being said, I can, theoretically, see how a person could like those characters, I just don't share the same values. And Amaram... Yeah, pretty nasty, just not important for me to dislike too much yet. I do look forward to his (possible) beat down in the next book. -
Least favourite character in cosmere?

Yes, you may be right. Might depend on what does "acknowledge" mean, and one may argue that "You have done your work well" is one, but yeah, I suppose. -
Hello, Brandon! Thank you for doing this. Here are my questions (all serious): 1. Is it possible to give cats intelligence with Hemalurgy? Or transfer cat's identity to a human? 2. How is heat a mental attribute in Feruchemy? 3. How much power does a Breath and a freshly charged Hemalurgic spike have relative to each other? Fourth: Tell us something new about Cognitive Realm, please
-
Well, he is not an Allomantic savant, since compounders don't burn metal constantly, but periodically to refill metalminds. So he is probably, as mentioned above, a Feruchemical savant, the kind a normal feruchemist can't become, from constant attribute tapping. Good idea, though

Least favourite character in cosmere?
Satsuoni replied to Straff Venture's topic in Cosmere Discussion
Um, Windrunner, here is the relevant scene: Between the king taking out the stone and ordering Szeth not to harm him, the king blabs. AT that point, Szeth should have plenty of motivation, since he knows already. Yet instead of swinging shardblade, or hitting the king in the throat (so he won't be able to talk)? He talks to the bastard. Even though he has explicit orders to kill him, and motive to do so. He waits for the next order without even fulfilling the previous one. [EDIT] Anyway, enough ranting Let's try to stay on topic, and open another thread for discussing Szeth, if necessary. -
Least favourite character in cosmere?

True. Also, I had to regoogle Shaor, sonce I completely forgot about her. Well, she is plenty disgusting, but she just didn't register to me as a character, so I don't have any opinion on her, sorry. Although, I see plenty parallels between her actions and Szeths: [shaor] :I am hungry! Give me food! Bad food, doesn't fill my stomach, bad servants! [szeth]: Give me orders, I must have them! Bad orders, immoral and nasty, bad masters! Look at what you made me do! More orders! (Also, I have reread the Tarwhat scene and the things truthless is forbidden to do: .There was nothing that stopped him from killing Tarwhat before he ordered Szeth not to harm him. He just wanted more orders, apparently) Ok, I stop ranting now -

Badass, sure. But unless i missed something in reading, nothing prohibits him from killing his master if he was ordered to by the same master (ok, I might be wrong on this), so, yeah, if he were moral, he'd just confirm target, and before the order can be given, kill him dead.., -

Well... I must admit I don't really understand what makes people behave as they do, so take what I say below as my personal opinion. Sorry if it disagrees with yours. Essentially, Szeth is both really powerful (near overpowered) and whines too much. The combination does not sit well with me. If he really felt what he whines about, he'd have snapped long ago, and either came to relish the power he wields or lost his emotional capacity, burning out, and just feeling nothing afterwards. As it is, he seems to go through the motions of feeling rather than actually feeling stuff. Maybe it will be expanded on later, but, well... He feels like a dissonance that way (to me). On the simpler note, seeing above, he comes across to me as a whiny, spoiled and overpowered child (in the worst sense of the word. I rather prefer children to adults otherwise), and I don't like to read so much whining without the cause I can at least slightly relate to. -

Szeth, I guess, although Hoid is close. Szeth is just wrong. -
the most useless uses for useful powers

Ok... Use Shardplate as your P.E. uniform. Use Shardblade stuck in the floor as a doorstop Soulcast your own excrement into food -ultimate couch potato. Lash skirt edges to armpits, and pants to the shoes Eat and burn anything aluminium you can get your hands on, just to show that you can Burn gold while storing memories into coppermind. Then eat coppermind and burn aluminium. Burn electrum while storing senses. Use stored sight to look at the stars without telescope, for the whole of 1 second Burn pewter while watching TV, just to feel the rush. Burn (lots and lots of) pewter and duralumin to instantly heal a small scratch. Pewter-drag to work/school instead of using a train. Then use bronze to stay awake in class/office. Lash your facial hair to the sink instead of shaving, or soulcast them to air. Soulcast wine to blood when drinking, to win drinking contest. -
Blood for the blood God! Spikes for the spike throne! Just had to get that out of the system. Ahem. Now back on topic... What was the original topic anyway? Ah yes. You'll probably have to have both steel and zinc to have a chance of beating Atium burner. IMO.

Now correct me if I am wrong, but are you sure bacteria will survive the shot? Doesn't the bullet heat? Poison, now, or radiation are another matter.
-
That is why they use bullets with uranium core For weight.
-
At least they could use coated bullets, then. The protection does not need to last on the bullets, I'd say, unless they recover and reuse them. Still cheaper than the whole bullet. But yeah, the exact effect of aluminum is uncertain.
-
@Observer: I think it just absorbs Investiture back into preservation instead of storing it into itself, like Nicrosil. @name_here: Did nobility even know of aluminum's existence? From the books, I've gotten the impression that TLR suppresses the knowledge of it. Also, is Atium even external? It was classified that way, but it is no longer in the main grid, so maybe it was wrong, and it is internal, like bronze? I mean, it does not affect anybody else, just your perception. Also, it is temporal, and, as mentioned before, Aluminium does not affect temporal metals, otherwise it would act very strangely in the bendalloy bubble - you won't be able to carry it inside, since it would drag with the outside time. Its effect on emotional allomancy is a shield that absorbs Investiture reaching into your head, I guess... Huh. Does anybody know if a shield of aluminum plating protects a metal behind it from being pulled/pushed? Wouldn't plating a gun be cheaper then?
-
I am relatively sure duralumin isn't inert, and it was mentioned in a book that only some alloys of aluminum are inert. You do have a point about bronze, but Atium seems to work on you, rather than affect surroundings, so I am not sure about that. The working mechanism may be different, too, I.e. the power source of burned Atium maybe Atium itself as opposed to preservation. I don't know about chromium. Maybe, but then, it does not (probably) affect itself, as aluminum does- aluminum is unique is that regard, since it also erases itself.
-
I am guessing it just absorbs allomantic Investiture, and that is essentially how it works, allomantically, by pullling Investiture through metals backwards, burning them into preservation rather than the Allomancer, while duralumin pushes Investiture at advanced rate into Allomancer. Also, Atium is not limited to metal, so I doubt aluminium affects it any way

Free ebook copy when you buy hardcover for Legion
Satsuoni commented on Zas678's article in Brandon and Book News
I've bought the ebook right now, and I must say that the ebook cover is quite ugly, the ugliest I've seen in a while, especially when compared to the hardcover edition. Pity, but in the end, it is of no matter. New book [EDIT] What you said above is far too deep for me, Kurkistan. I agree with the last sentence (P.S.) though. [Edit] Now I have finished the book, and it appears that the cover was made by Isaac Stewart. That is a bit embarrassing. since I think he visits the forums sometimes. I shall then add that I like most of his other work, and my opinion on the cover is strictly a personal opinion, based on the wide range of phobias. -
True. Of course, the close the unarmed mistborn is, the more likely he is going to melee the gunner. And also, atium offers wonderful opportunities for shooting (if you also have a gun) - you can aim at where your opponent will be, and time exactly so he'd be shot as he emerges from cover. As for the expanded mind - I think it is similar in effect to the mind expansion Vin has in the Well, or when becoming Preservation, just much smaller in scope, in other words, most of the processing goes through atium (Ruin), not brain, you just direct the process. As for the permanent effect, I still think that ingesting atium makes you susceptible to Hemalurgy, or, in the case of Scadrial-born, more susceptible, becoming a better donor for spikes. Not very useful, that But that is just IMO.
-
What he said.. And here is the quote from the book: So, you see a trace, although faint. Therefore, all bullets look like tracer bullets shot about 2 seconds ago. That does not mean that atium burner is invincible - proper firing patterns will probably be able to hit, and also, the fact that he has to start dodging before firing (or the speed of the bullet will not allow him to react), the Vin trick may be easier to execute (i.e. adjust your aim as he starts dodging). It will still be a large advantage. You know, it made me start wondering : what happens if you are about to open the door while burning atium? Will you be able to see beyond the door before you open it? (since it would be opened two seconds later).
-
Um. A quote (from the wiki, but I assume it is copied from the chart. that is where I've seen it before): Emphasis mine. So, essentially, the atium burner will see his/her body hit by bullets, calculate where the bullets came from, and react accordingly. Of course, with enough fire density there may not be a place to dodge to, but at least they will be able minimize the damage. The aim does not matter, (as long as the shooter does not do as Vin did in the fight with Zane) since the burner will know where the bullets will be (they don't calculate trajectory from aim). The speed of the bullet does not really matter either, since they'll start dodging before the trigger is squeezed (as it happens in the real life, if you see the gunner).
-
Well, I'll go into more detail later (tired right now), but I've always thought about three realms as the body/minds/soul separation. In realmatics, "mind" seems to define form (see soulcasting), and spirit(soul) life, amongst other things. Hm. Ok I'll add more content later.

Ninjad... I am at work, so I had to search a bit discreetly [EDIT] Ok, I am confused about English grammar, but I think "Menaced by Auotpwail" or "Nemesed by Auotpwail" would be more correct <head hurty>

I'll search for the quote. It does not seem to be in the interview database, so I think it was on twitter somewhere... I'll edit the post then. Also, doesn't the nemesis relation go in the other direction? Hm, it was right in your definitive post, or originally here:
