The evil genie game... With a Sanderson twist
Satsuoni replied to Oneyespike's topic in General Brandon Discussion
And lo, it so happened that a passing Passionspren had merged with Sadeas's soul, causing him to fall in love with Dalinar. And it so happened that Dalinar partly reciprocated, unable to resist the influence of the spren in Sadeas's soul. And they worked together. And Navani was jealous, and devised a fabrial based on Deathspren, that could move as a spider and kill on touch, while the stormlight lasted, and made a dozen of them. But in her fury, she had miscalculated, and couldn't control her creations, so she died and they run away, but not before bonding with her soul and gainin a twisted swarm sentience. Soon, the Alethi camp was decimated, as the fabrials ran around killing people and recharging from spheres and storms, until they grew strong and twisted enough to kill everything around them, no longer requiring touch. Soon, Odium has noticed the disturbance and started to control them directly, as well as forcing his servants to make more. And thus, Roshar has fallen, with the whole Cosmere sure to follow... Ok, Let's try something more convoluted :)/> I wish to observe, without being able to affect or be affected, Roshar, as two portals open on it, one leading into the Immaterium, other into Dark One's prison, and the great battle between Chaos forces, Odium, Shadowspawn and Honor remnants occurs on the Shattered Plains, soon after the end of SA1. [edit] A bit out of bounds, but still -
Arbitrary Kvothes from HoA, interpret however you will I thought they might clear some things up, though.

The evil genie game... With a Sanderson twist

"Tonight, we attend the execution of the most notorious criminal, known only as Windrunner #17. He has twisted the teachings of the Almighty, and corrupted the very concept of honor. For that, he will hang out from the tallest tower of Urithru until the storms claim him." (from the diary of the anonymous Knight Radiant) I wish for every Scadrian to become a mistborn Feruchemist. -
The evil genie game... With a Sanderson twist

You have absolutely perfect memory. So good, in fact, that you can barely tell memory from current experiences, and you can remember everything at extremely high speed. A first minute in the bubble force enough information into your brain that you go completely nuts. When a bubble dissipates after a day, you are extracted as an insane wreck randomly reacting to past events, and spent the remainder of your short life on the life support, going crazier by the minute, since information influx never stops. I wish for the Awakened Radiant Hemalurgic Dakhor kandra as a pet. -
I certainly hope it was your dream *shudders* The very idea of Shallan apprenticing with Hoid is beyond monstrous. Still, the title is OK, and yes, it is still referring to in-world book title. @Kurkistan - I have no idea how to link twitter.

You know, from this interview: I have always kinda assumed that Sazed put the spikes back himself, with them becoming his servants and all, but I see that it is not clear. Still, he was, IIRC the only one who even knew that Kanra were spiked mistwraith (with the exception of other Kandra), and I am not sure there were any contractees during HoA. @Millenium: The spikes never completely decay, it is true. However, if, as you suggest, those spikes have decayed as much as they could, that is still a lot of power in something so completely drained: Mind you, I doubt that the spikes were fully charged to begin with, even, since it takes more than a single human to do that, though the maximum charge is limited. Anyway, I am with Comatose on this one... @Kurkistan Well, as I said, I agree about the positioning possibly influencing result in Kandra. Still, the whole process is markedly different for them, given that they can remove whole organs and go without, and form additional ones, all the time maintaining the bind points of original spikes. Anyway, back to topic: Kandra can indeed gain Allomancy (can't find the quote), so Kandrzilla will be able to eat Inquisitors and maybe absorb their power, becoming a giant super-powered crazed allomancer blob.

The meal has arrived, containing a steak for me and a smaller, rawer bits of meat for Alfie. Briefly, I wondered what about the reason a cat could retain metals almost as long as a human, that with their digestive tracts being that much shorter, then put it out of my mind. As usual, Finnar bowed himself away after depositing a fresh pile of reports on my table. I sighed inwardly. I considered as I ate. There were about fifteen CI agents in the city of Elendel, the highest concentration of sentient cats anywhere on Scadrial to my knowledge. Most of them were more or less dormant, only reporting rarely, when they came to refill rarer metals, and of course, they didn't have anybody to report to while I was at my mansion. They lived, as cats would in many ways, some ruling over their territories, some preferring freedom of anonymity, all collecting data in one way or another. I cared about them, yet I knew that caton should be able to go on without me. Still, most cats must have heard about my arrival, and I knew that at least five of them would do as I ask. Not all of them had tin, though. The meal passed in silence, and by the end of it, I have decided. She would do nicely. Her territory was not too far from the tavern, so she might have some information already. She also had tripartite tin compounding, a strange but powerful choice, though additional Human attribute made her change, somehow, nya, I was still not sure. Three tins, two steels and mental fortitude to process the deluge of information. I'll have to contact her, tonight. Meal done, I have informed Alfie of my plans and busied myself with reports, waiting for the darkness to come.

@Phantom: I am pretty sure Nightblood itself would give even Kandrzilla indigestion. However, you can use awakened spikes, or better yet, awake the spikes already in use, each with slightly different command, like "Rip human souls" "Destroy cities", etc... That might be.. spectacular, especially when the count of spikes goes into hundred, but is unlikely to support random creations Still, I can just see it: "Advancing on Luthadel was a roiling mass of black smoke, some floating above, some cascading below like a waterfall, yet somehow never running out. Inside, one could barely distinguish a slithering mass with hundreds of barely formed protrusions, and a framework of twisting metal in the translucent flesh..." Ahem. @Kurkistan: here are some quotes, from the book (no links ): This is what happens when the spikes are all removed: Here is TenSoon adding new spikes. Mind you, that is a modified animal body, so positioning is certainly not the same. Of course, position may still affect the effect of the spike, but it appears to be the same regardless of the kandra current form. P.S. A year in the ground, and no appreciable decay!
-
Ahm, well. The spikes have a strange property that is largely unexplored. While the fresh spike does indeed leak, and most of its charge decays within two days or so, for a smallish spike, the spikes once placed into the body seem to decay much slower. Examples include: Vin's earring, which she was not wearing for months at a time, kept its power just fine. Likewise, blessings of Potency TenSoon left in the hole for a few days worked OK. It is unknown if killing the current owner will restart the decay, or whether such spikes are of any good to anybody else. Next, Sazed mentions in a book that two Koloss spikes are equivalent to blessing of potency of Kandra. The same thing that drives human nuts is what gives Kandra sentience. Whether they would actually stack in world or not is unknown, since RPG is nerfed for balance purposes. Still, one can presume that there is a specific place within that body of theirs that needs to be pierced, and incorrect positioning might drive mistwraith nuts. I once proposed a Kandrzilla, a mistwraith that happened upon Koloss camp and spent some time eating corpses, acquiring maybe a hundred spikes and growing all the time, until it actually started to attack living Koloss. It would then grow sentient enough and excrete most bones, forming skeleton entirely out of spikes, resulting in a horrible monstrosity capable of devouring a village in a single... minute.

"That is a very detailed description... Good, good. That will add veracity to our tale. Ah, here comes Finnar. Do try to pretend you are not eating metals or talking." Indeed, there is a knock on the door just as I finish talking. "Is that you, Finnar? Do come in." "Yes, master. Did you call me? I took the liberty of arranging a small dinner, as you usually partake of it at about this time." And has never complained about it being cold, either, but of course he wouldn't mention that. "Thank you Finnar." I notice him staring at me, or more precisely, my shoulder, uncomfortably. "Is there something you want to ask?" "Yes, Sir. Is there something wrong with your shoulder?" "A small accident in the lab... Nothing you should be concerned about, I think. I shall consult with a doctor if it gets worse. Now where is that dinner? And please prepare something for Alfie, here." Finnar shook his head, unsatisfied, but retreated with "It will be right up, sir." "Well," - I addressed Alfie again - "Now you won't have to steal my food, since you will have yours, nya. " "Well then, should we discuss the abilities of the Cats best suited for infiltration of that tavern before or after Finnar comes back with food? I'll then ask around to see what resources are actually available."

And so they did! Vin as Preservation, Elend by touching and absorbing Ruin. No longer able to exist in harmony and not used to their powers, they reduced Scadrial to hellish wasteland, and then spent eternity locked into conflict. I wish Kaladin would manifest Shardspear. -
"Nya... Yes, that is going to be problematic. I was going to check out that place, Inquisitor's spike, but without pewter and with a hole in my shoulder my fighting options, in case something happens - and in such place, that is likely enough - are rather limited. You need to recover, too. I'll try to call in resident backup for initial assessment of the place, but in the meanwhile we better rest." "As for a woman, if the Terris approach me, I'll try to mention her. I may also try to implicate her in the book disappearance, though I am not sure about the feasibility of that yet. Actually knowing what she looks like might help, though, so please describe her. Still, the option of killing her is there. I'll circulate her description, just in case." I replaced the ointment on the shelf. It was working nicely, but was a temporary solution, and there was still the matter of a curious emptiness in the place where my pewter reserves were. "Are you still hungry? I know pewter takes the edge off that, but you will still need resources to recover, though somewhat less. I know I am, nya, so I am going to order dinner soon. I am sure Finnar is going to have it ready." And he is going to ask questions, so I better conceal the wound, so it's extent is not obvious. "If Terrismen swallow our lies about that guard we may get to use advanced technology from the book sooner that I thought" - I note, as I ring the bell for my butler.

Your soulstamps are so similar that the only thing they do is transforming you into Shai(village version) for about half a second, and leaving you with lingering split personality. I wish Hemalurgy was taught in elementary school on Scadrial. -
Hmm... I f I had to guess there may have been several reasons: 1. The swords were originally just for sports like fencing or historical reenaction, and were made in limited quantities. Then, during the war, at first they didn't know anything about advanced weapons and made do with what they have, only gradually making stuff like shocklances. 2. At the end of the war, they no longer had resources and skilled people to make advanced weaponry, and swords were made as a last resource, since it didn't take so much skill. Anything in-between, like making sword a secondary weapon for close combat, for bloody sports favoured by Dark side, etc...

"Hiss, that is not well. If the operation is that large, eliminating that particular Terrisman may not be an option." I blink, considering. "By the way, I'll be wanting that spike back when you heal sufficiently, nya. Maybe in a day or two. Walking around with a hole in the shoulder is highly aggravating. In the meanwhile, keep burning and try not to disturb bandages too much. It is not fixed securely. I am glad it helped you, but I am thinking I need to include Pewter in basic phenotype." "Terrismen may contact me, you say? Did they say anything else, like something that indicated they suspect my involvement? Probably not, or you would have mentioned it. Excuse me for a moment." I hiss slightly and reach towards the shelf with some medicaments, selecting a jar giving off a strong smell of cloves. Not the best smell for the cat, but my human part still liked them, and this particular concoction worked well as a local numbing agent. I smeared it on my shoulder and rebandaged it with some difficulty. Constant attempts of my body to burn Pewter for pain relief were distracting. The pain lessened to ignorable levels, and I continued. "Looks like we may be able to get away with taking a book if we hold off using what we learned for a little while, and build up some reputation by providing them with metal, with only slightly inflated price for secrecy, if they want it." "This, however brings us to the next problem... Before that, you may want to replenish your proper metals and pewter" - I nod at the lab table nearby - "In the meanwhile, please consider if you want me to pursue revenge on that woman for her hurting you, and in what form, if so."

That is the whole post according to google cache, Windrunner, but that paywall is indeed annoying.

An hour? I give you a lifetime! Forever locked in the abyss beyond reality, with only that wiki, incomplete, without any new books or internet to share your findings, until you die... -
Alfie seemed to be doing fine, though he needed rest now. I needed some too, since removing the spike was rarely pleasant. Out of habit, I tried to burn pewter, but of course nothing happened. To distract myself, I increased the amount of tapped Investiture. I have bandaged the spike to Alfie's body, since I was going to have it back after he recovered, and tried to gather my thoughts. Whatever wounded Alfie so was going to pay if I had my way, though I rather hoped I didn't have to resort to the gauntlet for that. But he had to tell me who it was first, and by the looks of it he was going to sleep for quite a while. Suppressing a yowl of pain, I rose from the char near operating table, in a room set up for such emergencies, both human and cat. I had to study anatomy extensively, and while I was not a professional medic, I did have access to some resources few other medics did, namely Hemalurgy. I briefly wondered about the explanation I should give to my butler about the wound, but then decided against doing any explaining. He will note it, undoubtedly, but was usually too well-mannered to ask directly, nya. I have resolved to have cats check up on him afterwards. With that, I left the room and proceeded to my study. It was growing late in the day, and I still had some work to do. For instance, I had to determine which pieces of technology did I already own, and which of the missing pieces I could get through my contacts discreetly. As well as what cats currently in Elendel would be willing to check if this discreetness was enforced... That should distract me from pain, which was getting annoying.

Ok, I have downloaded and checked Russian translation (official, as far as I can tell). Only one Mistborn book is translated, by the way. I've learned many interesting things For example, there is no proper word for pewter in russian, only borrowed one. In the book pewter is translated as "lead" "Lead is an alloy of tin and lead" , as stated by Kelsier. As for Eastern slang - it is translated as basic rustic dialect, only barely different from normal speech similar to how peasant would speak in many works of fantasy. Btw, Russian does not have gerunds per se.

Ok, I'll try to reply. 0. Death rattle. Well, there is no exact theory about how they work - some people seem to talk themselves, like the Shin one, some seem to be replaced, but I think they always refer either present or possible glimpse of future, which may be untrue - sorry, no book now to check - but I think applies to this one, so it is description of current state (no Honor, Radiants broken) by somebody from the past, rather than somebody in the past speaking. That is, of course, just an opinion. 1. Well, all Honor message encompass the end of the vision, as it starts to wind down. And this style, with repetition to both drive the point and to help me gather thoughts, and tense change to underscore the end, is more or less exactly how I would have formulated it, especially for an unseen observer, if I wanted to sound, well, pithy. But once again, not a native speaker. Honor does use the future tense next, when talking about naming, so my guess would be that he was killed soon after. 2. Well, that is just my opinion, that Recreance is indeed a Vorin name for the event, probably part of the official doctrine, and thus named in every nation following vorinism. Names do tend to get lost over time... 3. Well, what did happen to Shards of dead Radiants? Of course, they might have just disintegrated, but I find that unlikely. Or maybe there was a limited number of them to begin with... Still, that may be part of why they left to begin with - greed of others, being forced to fight other people, etc. 4. Oh, I won't be so sure. The human ability to lie and twist the truth never ceases to amaze me. Especially when it comes to event like this... They may just blame Radiants, as they did in the end. Or maybe Shards were already valuable enough to justify a few murders along the way, Amaram style. 5. Once again, that is perfectly consistent with how I would have reacted in such an event •shrug•. As in, I just abandoned my purpose, along with everyone else. The worst thing in this case would be trying to stop and explain why - that may shatter my resolve altogether. Just ignore those and go away... And Dalinar was spouting gibberish- the name Recreance was not yet given, so him asking about it never made any sense... Like a person going to 0 AD and asking about Christmas decorations. And for pain and betrayal... I am not sure. Maybe it was a lot of Radiants severing their bonds all at once, leaving Spren to go stupid again... Don't know. We'll know more once we understand more about Blade formation, etc.
-
Well, about tose points: 1. The tense is exactly how I would have been speaking during the recording of events I was at. Mind you, I am not native english speaker, so I am not sure. But yeah, furst present, then past as the recording winds down. 2. The names.. Keep in mind, Recreance was a long time ago, at least about 500, before theocracy. It may have had several names, but lost most of them as time passed. Also, I think we only get Alethi talking about it, so that might be their name. 3. Well, Radiants were not immortal, so when one died, what happened to the Plate? Maybe some people did, in fact use it, for example form their Radiant relatives and battle comrades. It might be even a standard training (in case your Radiant officer falls or something). 4. The simplest lie they could tell is "Radiants went mad with power and tried to slaughter us, but we prevailed. Poor people, see the shiny loot." Or something to that effect. Since it was the first case of Radiants abandoning their positions, they may even be believed. Lots of ways to justify that. 5. Them walking away... well, the simplest explanation is that they didn't want to talk at that moment. It was pretty intense. Or maybe Dalinar messed the sequence, since I doubt he could actually alter the past. There are flaws in that argument, I know. As for True Desolation being the metaphor... Maybe. I don't know. Maybe that is literally what Odium wants. Also, Tanavast says: As if it is certain, not just his fear. As if it is something that has happened for him.

Hmm.. that wasn't very good. Apparently, he stopped burning Electrum again. I checked his spikes - they were fine, although one of the metal-giving was displaced slightly. I've put it back in the proper position, and carefully probed internal organs and checked the eyes. Internal bruising, from what I could tell, but not too much, and concussion, if such word could be applied to a Cat Inquisitor. The head spikes were most important, and they were well secured, but could still jostle the brain. Or what remained of it in immediate proximity. Which seemed to be what happened here... I put Alfie back on the table. He needed rest... and also pewter or gold, which he did not have. I retrieved some medicine from the cabinet that should help him with internal damage some, and replaced the splint on the leg. For now, that was all I could do... Or was it? I considered this idea for a while. Then removed my shirt and cut through my shoulder before I could think any better. There was a pain, but pain was a constant in my life, so I ignored it for now. There, along one of my upper ribs and dipping into the shoulder was a spike, clamped around and screwed into the bone. It did not go through any vital organ, but neither was it designed for easy removal. From the toolbox with my surgical supplies I have recovered a driver. It was a painful, awkward work, one that I didn't dare burn Pewter to relieve, but after half and hour I have managed to extract the spike - more like a strip, really, bent and twisted -without damaging myself overmuch. I stemmed the bleeding, after my head cleared somewhat, but didn't stitch a wound yet, since I planned to have my spike back. Then I carefully detected a bind point close to the cat's skin, applied some anesthetic and inserted the pointy end here. Alfie had enough of Pewter already inside. His breathing eased. Just in case, I've fed him a bit more pewter, and he seemed to fall into a more restful sleep rather than unconsciousness.
