Effective ways to imprison a Shardbearer
The One Who Connects replied to Alfa's topic in Stormlight Archive
Not any more than a normal Shardbearer, with the exception of Lift.(There's no containing Lift.) Use a Larkin to drain them of Stormlight, keep them in a cell far away from Stormlight, and then they are basically a normal Shardbearer, where you have to make the room extra Shardblade-proof, but then you are pretty much good. -
Shardblades and eye color

Did nobody look at the family tree I posted on page one? I wouldn't call it a confirmation, but it's still far more than the nothing your statement implied we have. Renarin is still up in the air of course, as his are apparently not mentioned at all, per Extesian's list, which is both annoying and a little surprising. I'm also curious which sibling inherited their mothers eyes out of Dalinar and Gavilar. I know genetics don't actually work like this, but if Renarin got his mothers eyes, then he probably inherited that quality from his father(counter-intuitively enough), which means that Dalinar has his mother's eyes I don't know why, but this sounded better in my head. Her eyes are also described as "faint violet, so faint as to be almost white," according to the Coppermind. We know that she is Jezrien's daughter, and Brandon literally has Kalak see the anguish in Jezrien's eyes without so much as a subtle mention of color for us to go off of. -

It's greatly useful. It confirms Navani having violet, which makes the Kholin Family Tree have consistency, Still lacking one for Renarin apparently, which is more surprising than lacking one for Sadeas. It also means that I don't have to search for Sadeas's, which I was going to do later anyway. Taravangian has pale grey eyes... for some reason, I feel like I'd known this and forgot. -
Welcome to show business, where the bluntness is for the audience, not the characters. And due to this, the characters can be as subtle as they want, but the audience has to see something or else they'll end up being confused. The assumption that the majority of the audience is there because of the trailers, not the books/comics is one that showbiz makes a lot. So when the movie comes out, most of the viewers will see "magic" and understand, while the Shard will complain about the inaccuracy compared to the books. Does that make us wrong? No, but it doesn't necessarily make us right either. Right, sorry. He's shielding himself from the mega-soothing, and shielding the group from being detected during it. Vin is doing the same, as I recall, so seeing it break a bit isn't unwarranted, while letting some through allows for it to keep the "only protects the user" angle and subtly show that TLR is just that powerful(maybe show Soothing get completely blocked by Clubs in an earlier scene.. if there's a spot for that?) I don't really like the idea of sounds for burning, mostly because things like that usually end up being either be too annoying and detract from the scene, too similar and not be able to differentiate between metals, or get drowned out by the action/background music and may as well not be there. Distinctive sound effects are easy to screw up and hard to do well, ones that stay active for a long time(copper, pewter) are even more difficult to do. This isn't to say that they couldn't do one wonderfully, but I'm a little skeptical of them doing sixteen of them without having a few not mesh with the dynamic.

Shardblades and eye color

We are aware, as Calderis corrected me about that implication yesterday when I misspoke about "Willshaper Heritage". I feel that it should still be genetic, as a new Shardbearer(Moash) was given the option of making his own house under the Kholin Banner. If his kids would retain their darkeye status, I feel like he wouldn't really have that much power as a house in the future. Just my opinion however, as your WoB is all we have to (dis)prove it. This was another question that I wanted answered. Sadeas would be our best example, but I don't have an eye color from before or after because I haven't searched the books yet. -
Effective ways to imprison a Shardbearer
The One Who Connects replied to Alfa's topic in Stormlight Archive
I think it's difficult to differentiate between clothing and the person when Soulcasting, so perhaps that's what is preventing this from happening. On a semi-related note, would Shardplate that has had all of the gems inside it drained of Stormlight(either through magical methods or through long enough time without reinfusing them) still be posable? I know it would be a waste of Shardplate, but having them trapped within their own suit, unable to move their arms or possibly even fingers could serve as a more effective punishment than actual torture. Their captor being willing to wait and claim their Plate and Blade once they wither away(combined with a stop in feeding the prisoner), with their only hope of being spared is if they relinquish their Blade.. it would be an interesting scenario, to say the least. Disclaimer: I know full well that this would be better in a soulcast straightjacket, but I enjoy the poetic justice in having them rot in their own Plate. Their once impenetrable shield becoming their inescapable prison... -
Potential Ideas(Allomancy): I'm fairly certain that Brandon has told us they (might have been an earlier group before DMC) had considered making the metal glow blue instead of having a mess of blue lines for Iron/Steel. Emotional Allomancy has been discussed on here for a while, culminating in the idea that it should be semi-transparent waves washing over people(blues & purples for Soothing, reds/yellows for Rioting) Pewter could be shown by physically making the character stronger/faster, and Tin would work in 1st person: making sounds clearer, lights brighter, sounds louder, edges of the screen clearer, etc.. for the character, but it wouldn't work really as well in third person. Copper could be a transparent bubble in the same vein as the waves of emotional Allomancy, and having those waves break around the bubble would be a cool visual to add to the executions scene, where Kelsier is shielding the crew from TLR's mega-soothing. Bronze is some sort of extra-sensory "hearing" the pulses, as they aren't really a sound. However, the movie can easily make them a sound that the character hears, but bear in mind that unless Brandon canonizes it for them, the movie crew will make up pulse patterns for the metals. Atium, Malatium, Gold and Electrum are already very visual, so not much in the way of change is needed. Duralumin would just be an enhanced version of the original Metal, which could also be done for Flaring. Possible Issues/Complications: Iron/Steel could potentially lose the blue coloring in most major action scenes so they don't distract from the action. It could still work, but glowing coins during the nighttime battles will just mess with your immersion. Emotional Allomancy would lose the specificity as to what emotions are being effected, but that's more or less unavoidable. Pewter would probably end up as an explanation for why the combatants seem superhuman, without much emphasis on when it is used, aside from the Pewter Drag. The lack of a distinctive visual "punch" will probably make both Flaring and Duralumin share the same fate. Tin/Bronze would either have to be in 1st-person or have a close-up shot of the character in question that shows them focusing intently as the effect goes on in order to have the impact on the viewers without the effects being drowned out in the hubbub. Copper would have to be ignored in most scenes, to keep our hidden Mistborn hidden, and to avoid having a constant bubble effect always moving with Vin and Kelsier. The swarm of Atium Shadows in Kelsier vs Inquisitor, Vin vs Zane, Elend vs Marsh, etc.. would have to be scaled back a lot so as not to detract from the action itself. They could show it a bit at the start, and then not have them be visible unless necessary, for two reasons: The fight is in third person, and the observer doesn't see shadows. A fight where both sides have Atium is little different from a fight where neither side has Atium. Electrum risks being cut, as it's not really that prominent in the original Trilogy. Aluminum has no visual cues whatsoever, aside from Vin clutching her stomach in confusion. Short of the "where are my powers!?" cliche, there's nothing they can do. The Final Four Metals are about 5 movies away (3 MB, at least 1 SA, maybe WB?), so the movie crew should be experienced enough to not need our ideas at that point. Even so: Chromium and Nicrosil are the same as Aluminum/Duralumin. Besides making said Burster/Leecher's hands glow(what's a suitable color for draining?), there isn't too much they can do. Cadmium/Bendalloy are literal bubbles, and there are all manner of movies with slow-mo/time-lapse effects out there. The real issue with showing powers in Era 2 is gonna be the widespread Feruchemy. Speaking of which, Feruchemy: The bullet time of F-Steel is a common enough effect to do. The most notable usages of F-Iron is when Sazed literally floats downwards, and Wax. Wax will provide a better explanation to go with a relatively simple, Thor's hammer-esque effect: You impact as though you are much heavier than you are, while not looking that heavy. F-Pewter visibly changes the user's physical size, like the Hulk. F-Tin senses could recycle some of the A-Tin effects. F-Copper and memory will be sufficiently explained by Sazed, while F-Zinc will absolutely require Sherlock-esque inner thoughts moments. F-Gold healing will be blatantly obvious in their application. F-Atium will also be fairly clear(actually, we don't ever see TLR changing his age on-screen..) Medallions/Metalminds should glow when they are in use, and in the case of Medallions, there will be at least some explanation as to what power they give before use, which will help for the less visually inclined powers(Determination, Fortune, etc..) Hemalurgy: Inquisitor Spikes will be fairly obvious and imposing, and could even fall more towards the costume designers than the special effects crew. Unless they want to make the Spikes glow when the power they grant is in use, there are no real visual differences between A-Steel and H(A-Steel). Any thoughts on things that could be improved?

Effective ways to imprison a Shardbearer
The One Who Connects replied to Alfa's topic in Stormlight Archive
Remind me to introduce you to the 8th Amendment But I think your explanations are sufficient enough to understand the images. The subject would end up sitting down with their knees against their chest and their hands behind their back. Hands and feet tied together, knees and shoulders bound together(it should be on the inside of the knee so it can't get wiggled loose as easily). Blindfold and disorient them, stick them in a barrel, and then send them downriver. Biggest issue I can see is that this would be difficult to do to a person still wearing Plate, even if it is badly damaged, due to bulk. If his plate is in no condition for him to fight back, you will have to have people manually remove the plate from him both for him to move around and for you to move him anywhere. Then you will need to have more people making sure he doesn't try anything, and... It gets to a point where you're gonna have an interesting discussion with your cost-benefit analyst. I'd imagine that the physical "spawning-in" of the Blade would push his hands out of the way somewhat, at least enough for the hilt to fit. Then you've got someone using an awkward two-handed grip, but also one that's hard to disarm since he can't exactly drop the blade anymore. As a side note, am I the only one who thinks that summoning the blade is mostly mental and doesn't actually require a physical hand-motion? -
I was debating whether or not to type /pedant after I said that, so fair enough. That could work for people, objects, and phenomena, but I don't think that could sufficiently explain the Emotion Bracelet. It's an idea to start from though, which is more than I had.

A good way to settle this(good lord you two can discuss), would be to ask Brandon is a Returned would be capable of Returning again if Endowment wished it or if there's a "one-time only rule" that not even Shards can break. I feel like we are less likely to get a RAFO when a simple yes/no can suffice without the explanation, and he can choose whether or not to give further details.

Not all Shards have a number associated with them. And in the topic I linked to earlier in this thread(you should check it out, its got some good discussion), @Nicrosil made a very good argument for why Preservation's number is 16 following his Intent. Not sure how it factors in with other Shards(Unless Autonomy's is 1), but figured I'd post it here for discussion value -
Technically, it would be a Diminisher if it reduced something(like gravity/weight) It raises an interesting question, as increasing Durability and increasing Heat are definitely not the same Surge. If it's more efficient than infused spheres, an Augmenter/Diminisher system utilizing the surge of Illumination could replace the lightbulb... Hrmm... What might the Augmenter making heat be utilizing? We know that it's possible to make Fabrial versions of all 10 Surges, but do we actually know if they can use other things? Alerter Fabrials are another good starting point, as I'm having difficulty making a Surge Equivalent. Detecting people seems like Life Sense(4th Height.), but emotions? Phenomena?

Multiple WoB's on the subject, so you are partially right and partially wrong Alfa. It seems fitting that I quote the Roshar section of the Aluminum page on the Coppermind, seeing as I'm the one who made that section in the first place For a more detailed explanation: Oh by the way, you quoted the wrong person Calderis. -
IIRC, there's a theory.. somewhere.. about a connection between the Heralds and the Silver Kingdoms. If there is a connection, I don't think them being "holy names" is any surprise, since the church gave the Heralds holy names as well: Nalan, Talenelat, Chanaranach, etc..
-
I figured it was another use of Augmenter Fabrials, but that still might unknowingly utilize the Surge of Tension
-
The Intent is only tangentially related. We can't make any real guesses on the Intent, because we have hardly anything to go on. Edit: I do, however, support the possibility that the Intent is Wisdom, as it is aware and smart.

Not actually. If they alternate, then there is no possible way to get two of the same. If Surges 1 and 3 are of Honor, and 2 is of Cultivation, then both 1&2 and 2&3 will have one of each, while 1&3 is an impossible combination Example) Honor: 1, 3, 5, 7, 9 Cultivation: 2, 4, 6, 8, 10 Pair Overlap while Ascending by 1 makes it impossible to have 2 of a kind. 1/2 2/3 3/4 etc..

Poor choice of wording on my part. I meant heritage of someone who had a Willshaper Blade. Impromptu English Lesson Class: Some words are very important to sentence comprehension -

It also means that I can reasonably assume Navani is where Jasnah inherited her violet eyes, as the wiki has nothing(like it did with Dalinar). Violet... so Willshaper Heritage? -
So I've been misinterpreting the "universal to the Cosmere" WoB? I guess since it is paraphrased... Regarding near death trauma, you make a very good point that I feel dumb for not considering.

Shardblades and eye color
The One Who Connects replied to Necessary Eagle's topic in Stormlight Archive
No longer canon. I was quite surprised that Dalinar apparently doesn't have an established eye color, given how storming important to the story he's been so far Now I'm curious what other thread has been discussing eye color.. Anyway, I checked the Wiki. This is the sum of who has an established Lighteye Color: Gavilar & Elhokar, Jakamav - pale green Jasnah - pale violet Shallan, Highprince Ruthar, Adolin - blue Highprince Vamah - light grey Amaram, Moash - light tan(Moash went from brown to light tan) Navani's fanart has violet eyes, matching her daughter Jasnah, but the wiki doesn't explicitly say. Renarin has a citation needed for his eyes being blue. -

He has light tan eyes.[2] apparently. It's kinda close to yellow in Botanica's art, so its an easy enough mistake to make -
I don't think it's that similar, but we don't know enough about snapping for me to say with any real authority beyond my opinion. A good question to ask Brandon is if Lightsong or the other Returned would have been able to become a Radiant had they survived their Return-worthy act. That could settle it pretty definitively.
