  1. So you're currently thinking Thaid/Archer E/E? Because again - then why not you? Sure, you're hard to fight in the thread, but E!Archer takes out a Village threat that way and doesn't even have to worry because we can't verify your alignment anyway. (I grant you might be hard, but I maintain for instance that I'm inherently MLable, and Orlok's questions to me shows exactly why - did not have a good C1 and I think at the very least I would be a more preferable target to Thaid!) Something that popped to mind in terms of why I kept thinking Mat and Araris E/E is unlikely - Araris typically advises against going all out to defend yourself, especially on D1. Stick out too much and you get shot. It's possible Mat just did it, and his about face later on was getting advice to cool it in the doc, but I still think that's weird, especially if they're doc mates. And to anyone else reading this - no, I'm still not sure about Mat so I keep thinking about both V and E Mat.
  2. Hmm. Alright, thanks Araris. In your view, and @Amanuensis's - what does E!Archer gain from faking a scan on Thaid? Something that's throwing me for a loop is: why Thaid? If there's no flip anyway, what's to stop you from going for bigger game? Why not fake one on Illwei or Ash or Orlok or myself? (Probably not Aman - think you're V read enough, either way.) If your fake scan is going to have payoffs either way because people flip black and alignments are suppressed, why go for Thaid and why not aim for players who don't already have a credibility deficit as acute as Thaid's?
  3. Is it presented as an item? Because if it isn't, if it's just phrased as an ability, then this is incredibly weird because we've not had any sight of items in this game as far as I know, given Mat's death.
  4. That's very vague though. And a weird exception to make for targeting - I don't think any other role or ability in normal SE lets you do that. Would definitely like clarity on whether it's an active or a passive. I saw that, but that's not the same as talking to Mat, is it? Or maybe we're crossing wires - I do think he did establish contact, but I also suspect that the thread thing indicates he's not allowed to directly talk to Mat. Because if he were, why post all these instructions in the thread? In the dead/limbo doc would do nicely. The scanning item is just weird. @Araris Valerian Is your Soothe a power or a one-shot item? Because something that detects Village or Not-Village is a very odd breakdown, on top of everything else, including Archer's D1 insistence that items exist from Mat's role when the closest thing we saw was mention of the Motivators. Bah. I'm honestly getting a legit bad feeling about everything right now. My vote can chill on Thaid for the moment.
  5. But that's just an odd ability to have. What happens if you don't predict the exe target right? What happens if there's suddenly a last minute swing? I haven't seen where Archer said he talked to Mat - could you narrow it down for me? I'm going to go back and look, but as far as I can tell, he said he was submitting questions. If he could talk directly to Mat, he wouldn't have needed to do that weird communication/instructions in the thread thing. Point about the active and passive, but that's just odd - I think most of us don't have passives. I certainly don't. P.S. As much as Illwei says you're emotionless, just feel like you're entitled to feel them and sometimes they do leak into posts. It's a problem when you weaponise them, but otherwise we're all human. Just the 2p from the resident moody heart-on-sleeve guy.
  6. Think you mean talk to Mat? If Karn just died, I doubt he could talk to Karn until this cycle. Wasn't the rule about not tying it to your arguments? From my read of your posts, it was a ride-along, rather than part of the argument. Edited to add: Me waiting to know who Illwei hit C1 and what Mat said:
  7. With suppressed flips, this does become more interesting though, because we both know what the normal response to a Seek claim is, but does this really apply if you're going to flip black anyway? The payoff for a Seeker gambit here is IMO so much greater because who can prove you wrong?
  8. Meerkat was Village, wasn't he? But no - I thought he was trying to bait a reaction from Thaid. The timing doesn't add up, and neither does the attitude. The powerset is odd, and so is the context. And who would you do that to if not Thaid? Illwei pulled a similar stunt on Szeth a couple of games before Meerkat. If there's anyone in the playerbase you might expect to actually have a revealing reaction to a claimed scan, it would be the new guy.
  9. You beat Alv, pretty sure you're the current record holder. I just want to set the Village record streak and dethrone Striker/Fifth/TJ before I have to face my demons and the trauma of uniformly bad Elim team experiences (minus MR3 with Wyrm.) Sometimes a guy gotta aim high. Turns out Fifth's at 17-18, TJ at 20, so Striker's probably the one with 21. Edited to add: Turns out Striker has 12, so I just need to dethrone TJ and then I probably have the record.
  10. I think I've broken your record, minimally. According to my records, I'm on a 19 game streak, so I probably just need to beat TJ/Striker/Fifth, one of whom had 21 before their streak was broken, I think. If there is a Converter, don't you dare ruin this for me. I'm this damned close to beating the record >:( Tell me about it. I really should redo my reads, but I'm still feeling so excessively demoralised by the flip situation. I could buy that role scans might do it, but at the same time, I also feel as though that's too neat a pattern - Drake and Wyrm always throw in little snags into the symmetry as GMs, and it feels like TJ might share the same MO.
  11. I'm not >:( Damn right I blame you >> Can't speak for whether Aman's trying to pocket me, but I have every faith that you both can sort each other out if one of you is E Despite seven+ people telling me I need an Elim game, I must confess it feels nice to possibly beat out Fifth's or TJ's Village streak. Even if I'm a long way away from doing so. Anyone knows the current record? I wouldn't doubt that. I'd like to hear from Archer, I suppose. And especially Orlok. And everyone else.
  12. RIP, sorry bro From this, I'm inferring if you ever put us in a doc together, it'll be the Second Coming of House Urbain.
  13. You don't think he's pulling a Meerkat? Because I'll be honest, that was my first thought when I read it, and I didn't want to give the game away, and I must admit I'm feeling alarmed that you don't seem to be taking that as a possibility as well. Because the timing is sketch and doesn't add up, and neither does the volte-face from Archer's previous post. This is what I was hinting at when I said I understood how Orlok felt talking to Stick now because it's taking up all my self-control not to point that out.
  14. I don't know a subtle way to ask this without giving the game away and am regretting the lack of PMs immensely.
  15. Largely: wanted to put some more pressure on Experience, and didn't expect to final vote Experience as I was also still side-eying Thaid (but new players IMO are always off-limits C1), deeply unsure on Mat, and still harbouring negative gut on Araris. And you're right to say I struggle to read Araris but I do think he's readable- it just takes a hell of a long time, but I have absolutely no issues just changing my reads on Araris repeatedly, which is more or less what happened across AG8 - just went up and down until I think about D5 or D6 where I finally started to come around to Village Araris. I don't think I was convinced any longer at that point that immediate acceptance of Village Epic had to come from a Village Epic. Experience was directly reasoning from the name of the Village faction to the conclusion that Village Epics were possible, but also challenged Archer early on (asking him if he was claiming Epic), which meant that he was the only player in my categorisations who inhabited two categories simultaneously. So I just wanted to push him a bit more and see what came out of it. When I did the analysis at that point, I wound up realising that there were too many IKYK layers for me to be comfortable with, alongside what I say here: Basically: I'd started to doubt I could make coherent sense of what was going on with Archer and reading people's reactions to Archer because there were too many factors at play, so I settled for a brute-force categorisation approach and then went, "Oh hey, Experience appears in two categories, and interestingly, no one else does, which is a weird anomaly - let's put some pressure on him and see what happens."
  16. I can't really tone read but I think the closest match I can find would be this one: Agreed about the fake roleclaim - but Devo's also made genuine roleclaims as an Elim before. In LG68, she roleclaimed as an alignment scanner (which I believe she was) and in AG7, this kickstarted Wilson panicking when Devo made a fake action claim (sort of roleclaim tied, IIRC) which contradicted what V!Mat had told me. She claimed to have Lurched Mat with a protect item, but Mat got hit by a kill that night and lost a life, so that shouldn't have happened if Devo was really Lurching him. Devo's tone is stronger and more negative here this cycle - that's my take. I don't feel well-equipped to work that out either - would like others to sound off. It's true that Devo's been playing looser and off baseline; AG8 was a good example of this, so I don't know where to go with that. I think the plausibility of this, more than anything else, hinges on the plausibility of the neutral Epic Hunter roleclaim since that's really what's at stake here. As far as I can tell: I just have a hard time making sense of this wincon - trying to find and kill an Elim Epic could/should be hard, I guess, but given the apparent Epic population of this game, killing X Epics really doesn't seem that hard. We've had exactly two Regular claims and Mat, which means you could throw a stone and hit three Epics. Having to hit one Elim Epic is a bit harder, I suppose, but eh.... Note that if Striker's wincon requires him to seek Elim cooperation as well, he may be motivated to lie to cover for Devotary even if you ask about his wincon (sorry bro, I know you gotta do what you gotta do, but I also need to highlight that as a possibility.)
  17. Bro, yes, you were even commenting about the use of Mando'a in that game as well Also your comments about an Elim team with Wilson, Alv, me, Wyrm, and Hael were comedic gold I know this isn't really Star Wars but I'll be damned if I let my conlang skills go to waste >:D Edited to add: Is it really SE if we're not giving the GM grey hair?
  18. Another player who doesn't read write-ups! The D1 write-up had a fog creating Epic called Vexcave as the opposition and I was tired and frustrated enough to suggest a crack theory that the fog is a reference to the fact that there's an Epic role which - whether passively or actively - suppresses alignments from detection. I don't think I mean Vexcave is literally in the game (though she could very well be!) But I at least think that there might be a role anchoring this flip-suppression mechanic. Aman's talk of a Janitor role also makes sense to me - it's just whether the flip-suppressor is local (i.e. you have to keep targeting people who will die) or global (which we can break down further into active or passive.) If Aman hasn't figured out what I'm driving at, this would be a red flag the size of Greenland.
  19. TJ was PAFOing all OoA questions so I can buy they made that assumption. And fair - but I assume this means they expected there would be roleblocks and action scanners. I do recall Araris mentioning he has been caught before because of that tendency so that is fair I guess. I'm going to re-read that LG clash with Devo first.
  20. Why would Araris use WiMP over putting in a kill? And if there's a standard Elim team, what are they doing if not putting in the kill? Edited to add: Ah, D1, my bad. But then C2?
  21. The one thing I can't reconcile with E!Araris is no kill. We know they have a faction kill - we're committed to it. Araris has an aggressive kill doctrine, and likes to put in the kills himself. Even knowing this, I find it hard to believe that Araris would countenance a no kill doctrine for his team unless there's something we're missing. Devo was also Evil in LG73, where they could win if Village defenses (side mechanic) were overrun and even then, her team still kept basic kill doctrine. It's true that the redirect surrounding Araris makes sense if we assume Araris has been putting in the kills because an action tracker would obviously scan Araris, knowing that he likes to put in the kills where he can, I guess. But the kill doctrine point sticks out to me. I had a clash with E!Devo in LG68 where she got caught by a - I think the GMs sending me a bad votescan result, and the version of the rules she looked at didn't have that ability so it appeared to come out of nowhere. I'm going to look it up as a comparison case because I do remember it got a bit heated at one point. There's one possibility I can see but I've been reluctant to mention it for Orlok reasons and I don't know if it's correct, but it would not involve E!Archer. I...don't know. Minimally, I think it's a line of thought worth exploring at the very least. I've been thinking about whether Devo is lying about being a neutral - I don't necessarily buy what Archer said about it being a bad choice - after all, the same line of reasoning could be used to preclude Elan claiming Coinshot to me when she was Spiked Coinshot. The trade-off you make for surviving is kill restriction. Especially as, if you hypothesise, she's an Elim power role. But the Epic scan is what draws me short, because - okay, it's not too risky given the current landscape and the fact we have a craptonne of Epics. But that seems at least slightly risky and possible to get wrong. I guess I could see some of the more risk-friendly players in this game doing that. But then why is Archer making the Thaid push now, and like this? Edited to add: Also, where does Motivator degradation from from? I'm specifically reading this as saying that you must give the Motivator away and cannot stockpile them, rather than that you have to use them in the cycle received. @|TJ| Must Motivators be used immediately once you get them? Is there a time limit on them?
