This makes me think, could the radiant chose what form of metal theoretically the weapon is made from? Since some metals/materials have greater weight, heft, or balance. Couldn't a radiant have the spren turn into an arrow with a huge broad arrowhead, almost like a directional arrow, but with a lighter weight so it still travels? I don't know enough about arrows to know if this wouldn't work plain and simple out of hand.

"Real Life" Allomancy or How the second Trilogy might work
Pathfinder replied to Pathfinder's topic in Mistborn
So random twisted thought I had. If Vin and her sister experienced twin embolisation syndrome in the womb, would Vin still have become a mistborn with more powerful seeking abilities without needing to be hemalurgically empowered? -
I think this is awesome simply from the stand point that it presents Odium as a good guy lol

Connecting through Cyberspace: Duralumin in the Digital Age
Pathfinder replied to Kobold King's topic in Mistborn
I do not believe the point of the original post WAS to come up with a definitive answer. I mean correct me if I am wrong KoboldKing, but I think we all knew from the get go how little information we have on the subject. I was given the impression that this was a fun mental exercise to contemplate based on what we DO know, on whether or not it would affect digital communication, and if we reasoned it did, then how. So I posit the emotional/spiritual affect that reading a speech by someone, or a book does create a connection regardless if you meet them or not, and regardless if you were present when they said it or not. Do you agree given the information we have that it could function this way? Given the information we have do you think it works a different way? If you think it works a different way, why? What logic based on the information we have supports your theory? At least that was my impression was the point of this post. If I am incorrect in this assumption, then I apologize- 22 replies

Connecting through Cyberspace: Duralumin in the Digital Age
Pathfinder replied to Kobold King's topic in Mistborn
I am confused by what the yes and no is in reference to? Yes I made sense but no the written aspect would not be affected? If so could you provide your logic in that line of reasoning? You asked a lot of good questions, that I attempted respond to, and then just said no. So please elaborate? also technically we do not even know how it works with people in front of them, since we have never seen it been done at all, except in reference to an entry that: "Connecter Ferrings can store spritual connection in a duralium metalmind, reducing other people's awareness and friendship with them and can tap it in order to speedily form trust relationships with others". Doesn't give any examples of in person, not in person, on the phone, via email, right in front, or shouting from far away, seeing a person vs hearing them, vs smelling them, vs touching them. If a blind person talks does that count? If a deaf person sees the lips move does that count? Does distance matter? So my logic was just to extrapolate on that definition. It is clear we know very little about the ability.- 22 replies

But that is because he doesn't see what he is doing as manipulating. Just using what he equivocates as "charisma". At no point does he make someone do something that is harmful to themselves. If you however use your "manipulative" abilities to bring harm to others, or make them slaves to you, I could totally see the issue Moogle brings up coming into play

Connecting through Cyberspace: Duralumin in the Digital Age
Pathfinder replied to Kobold King's topic in Mistborn
So these are my thoughts on the matter, using my own personal form of logic and not based on any evidence in book or WoB to support it. Just my own two cents. I think the effect of the writing would be determined on whether the author was storing or tapping in that moment. We all love reading Brandon's books. Though some have never met him at all, I would say the affect his books have had on our lives in a "spiritual" sense is definite. So going on that premise, a individual's written works, whether digital or physical, would be affected by being a connector. Now this for me would lead to the next question, how would that function? If I can say the exact same thing to someone while storing and they feel no connection to me, or while tapping and they feel a huge connection to me, then I think the same would apply to what I have written. I do not think that anytime someone reads something I have at one point written while tapping connection would have them love it all the time, otherwise in a way anything I write while tapping becomes a metal mind of its own. I think anything I have produced, am producing, have done, am doing, is affected in that moment on whether I am tapping or storing. Did my long ramble make any sense? edit: ok just in case, I came up with an example. If I wrote something back in 2009 while tapping, but you do not read it till 2014 when I am storing, you will feel no spiritual connection to me. If I wrote something in 2009 while storing, but you do not read it till 2014 when I am tapping, you will feel a ton of spiritual connection to me.- 22 replies

So here's another idea. Have your spren turn into a giant sword sized kunai. Tie a rope to the circle part, and begin spinning the blade horizontally till you are a big helicopter circle of death as you walk forward.

The AonDor and the Shades I still view differently, (though I admit its me nitpicking) because with the AonDor you (at least at the stage it is in at the time of the book), need to be close to elantris, and draw the aon. With Shadows for Silence, I do not believe we have any indication that...... While with the birds, as long as they go to the island at some point, in order to attain the parasite, they get an ability. Now the parasite could be feeding off them, or the parasite could be circumvented just by going to the pool. No idea. But from what I have seen, pretty much once you get the ability, you have it, always on, passively, where ever you go (on that planet). Thanks, glad I could get some contemplation all a peculating edit: so I found another thread where you and Weiry talk about WoB on the subject of the shades, so I stand corrected and newly informed

Actually you referencing allomancy made me think of something. With allomancy, feruchemy, awakening, and (stormlighting?), there is a resource used and expended. Allomancy being metal, Feruchemy being the attribute stored, awakening is the breath, stormlight is the stormlight so what is the resource that is used/expended for the birds? Or any creature in that world for that matter with a psychic ability? Is it a resource we just haven't seen yet? Do they not need to expend resources, hence the interest of the ones above? Is this the first time we saw a magic system that doesn't need to expend a resource to fuel it? edit: I know the metal is merely used as a channel for investiture, but I was using resource as a catch all to reference a component required to make an ability function. With the birds and wildlife, the ability seems set to "always on".

The only examples we have of needing to concentrate really hard for the blade to stay is for dead spren shardblades, so although spren blades could be reasoned to act similar, that is not a guarantee that they do. For instance Shallan did not have to concentrate super hard to keep her spren blade staying there when she handed him to Kaladin, and at the time Kaladin was no longer a radiant. There are WoB that the reason dead spren blades take awhile to summon is you are bringing them "back from the dead" (I am ad-libbing), so perhaps it requires the extra concentration because they do not have the consciousness of their own to maintain their form without being in contact with someone.

Hmmm, honestly I am not sure. The only two weapons I can think of that functioned like a boomerang and were bladed were fictional. The chakram (if i spelled that correctly) from xena, and the krull blade from Krull both of which are aero dynamically impossible lol. I could see syl reforming after being thrown, so while Kal holds it, it has a handle, but after thrown its full bladed, but then again why even have to throw her? If that is true, couldn't she just change into the blade and fly herself among everyone?

I like Connoisseur too but maybe consider Gourmand instead? lol

My one problem with a sharderang is aren't boomerangs not bladed? They do have a thin profile, but they are a bludgeoning tool. If your aim is to act like a ranged shardblade, I do not think it would function as you intend. When Syl changes into a hammer, it slams into Szeth, not resulting in the soul severing that we get from the blade. Now if your aim is to just hit an enemy, and then summon it back to your hand to throw again, then I think that would totally work. Just I do not think throwing it, and have it scythe through countless enemies, burning their eyes out would happen/work.

A New Use (And a Big One at That!) for Aluminum
Pathfinder replied to anonymous2017's topic in Mistborn
Thank you both for the info! I know this is a digression, but I do have one more question that popped in my mind that I am not sure if there has been any info on, and then I will stop altering the original subject of the thread, promise! So I know burning a bead of lesarium makes you a mistborn, and alloying lesarium with another metal gives you the misting associated with that metal. I don't know exactly how alloying works, but I envision it to be take some of one metal, some of another, portion out the correct percentage and "mix". If this understanding is trueish, then if you take a bead of lesarium, take a little of it to make a misting, can you still become a mistborn from the original unalloyed bead and since there is less of the original bead, you become a weaker mistborn? And if that is a case, could you theoretically become an even stronger misborn by burning multiple beads of lesarium? Just a random thought that bounced around in my head. Thanks! -
A New Use (And a Big One at That!) for Aluminum
Pathfinder replied to anonymous2017's topic in Mistborn
What are the tests to test for feruchemy and allomancy? I know beating someone to snap them, but that doesn't determine what misting they are nor if they are a feruchemist as well. Was it detailed somewhere or is there a WoB that state how they test to find out what your feruchemal and allomantic ability is? And if there are tests for which ability you have, then why does it say in the Arcanum that it is hard to locate dularium and aluminum mistings since when they burn it, nothing happens? Not asking to be critical, but just wondering if there was a big WoB, or part in a book i missed Also even assuming tests to determine what abilities you have, I am curious how Miles Hundredlives figured out compounding. Unless he found an ancient rule book or someone showed him how to. -
I just like Feruchemical gold for the simple fact that I can always choose when to have a sick day. Basically decide, hey I want to store, I have no plans, and I have a sick day left over at work. So just call out of work, order take out, and curl up in bed and veg. Then I never have to worry about catching a cold when I DO have plans I will say I think the worst to store in big quantities is luck. Can we say "Final Destination"?

A New Use (And a Big One at That!) for Aluminum
Pathfinder replied to anonymous2017's topic in Mistborn
I would go a step further, how did a twinborn discover he or she was a twinborn especially considering during TLR's time, it didn't exist. For instance Wayne could one day have stolen gold, and realized he felt ill when he held it and then put two and two together to figure out he was storing health without meaning to, but then how did he figure out he could burn bendalloy too? Wax might be a little more plausible given that it is reasonable to think he has laid hands on iron in the span of his life, and given possibly the high metallic content in the water, or just the plates and cups used he could have ingested traces of steel after snapping but what about Miles Hundredlives? How did he figure out compounding? -
What happened/will happen to Eshonai

I would say most definitely yes. A hearing aide and glasses makes your current level of sight and sound to "normal". If i were to store while having glasses and a hearing aide, I could have "normal" senses while storing, and when I want have EXCEPTIONAL senses like an eagle or a dog. I think that is still pretty sweet especially if there is a vehicle that allows me to accomplish it for "free"
-
So this caused another question to pop in my head. If someone has diabetes like was suggested, goes to the hospital to have their condition monitored while storing health, and then taps it to heal the diabetes. Does the diabetes then go away for good, or does it come back when the first stops taping? Or does it come back when the person begins storing again? also since healing has to do with identity, if I wear contacts all the time, is my sense of self as seeing without glasses enough that i could heal my eyesight?
-
So I was thinking it over and I am not so sure it would work that way either. So when you store strength, your body loses muscle mass and you look emaciated. When you exercise, you are literally breaking down muscle tissue, and when your body recovers using protein, it builds up more muscle as result. So if you are already deficient in muscle mass, then wouldn't exercising do more damage? Maybe exercise without storing or tapping, and then during the recovery time store? Or exercise till you are super buff, then store till your at the level you were originally, and then exercise? Is that what you are thinking?

well here is a question for everyone, are we viewing metabolizes as in burning, or metabolizes as in digestion? -
A New Use (And a Big One at That!) for Aluminum
Pathfinder replied to anonymous2017's topic in Mistborn
So here is a thought I had. I know Brandon is quoted in saying that an aluminum savant could get to the point of removing impurities from their body, but I was thinking, if it makes you metabolize your metallic reserves, what happens if that reserve isn't the correct balance of metals? It has been stated that if a misting or mistborn burns a metal with the incorrect ratio it could make them sick, or even kill them. So I know it is a jump, but if it immediately metabolizes them all, and assuming a standard steel sword possibly doesn't have the correct ratio to be a burnable steel, even if the aluminum could make the sword go poof, could that kill the aluminum gnat because he is metabolizing a non allomantically proportioned steel? Did what I write make any sense? lol
