I bolded from the get go it is my opinion. That from my perspective it seemed dark and explained why. I didn't say anyone had to believe what I did. Just tossed in my two cents, which I am perfectly entitled to do.

I also do not think that has to do with the goals of the Set, given Miles seemed to be pretty set against them. He viewed them as only a means to his own ultimate end. He did tasks for him, they funded him, he would then ditch them to go do his thing. At least that's my thoughts on it.

Wasn't really trying to argue anything other than just saying that fabrials could be seen in a dark light like hemalurgy. Was not trying to say one was worse than the other, or should be abhorred. The fact of the matter is we don't know what the spren are experiencing while in a fabrial. Have we seen a radiant use a fabrial to see if it screams or not? I know Nale has, but he is a herald which does not need a bond. Jasnah walked around with one and so did Shallan, but it was broken, so could that be why? Just because spren do not have a level of sentience like Syl, does not mean they do not have a level of sentience at all. Windspren are not bonded, yet they can play pranks. That denotes a level of sentience to me. As you said people could argue the way the meat industry handles its treatment of cows as abhorrent. If you think about it, theoretically fabrial are the same. They are both taking beings, locking them away, and using them to produce a product, cows for meat, spren for an ability. Bonds are voluntary, fabrials are not. Please do not misunderstand, I did not write all this to say you are wrong and I am right. Just at one point it was stated that since fabrials do not require ripping apart someone's spirit web, then its a nicer form of hemalurgy. Curious I just stated based on what little we know, there could be another dark way of viewing the process. I would find it very funny however if in the third book, we learn that spren are in pain the entire time, and Shallan starts a protesting group to end fabrial use. Something tells me things will get real interesting real fast if Nale pops up to disagree with her lol edit: btw, the question about have we seen radiants using fabrials other than the examples I gave was genuine. I seriously do not remember, and am curious if we have.

It has been awhile since I read Emperor's Soul, so any references if faulty, I apologize in advance and this is just throwing some thoughts/ideas out there. Vin has been shown to be naturally an especially skilled allomancer, I do not see any reason why Shai, who has been stated as the best forger around, could not just be naturally an especially good forger for a reason we as of yet have not seen why. So that could be why she is able to make stuff stick that shouldn't. Just like how Vin could push better than she should when compared to Kelsier, and learned how to use her metals faster than anyone else. There is in my opinion, an artistic or imaginative state of mind in a way required to produce these stamps. You find out the history of the object, and attempt to plausibly come up with instances in your mind of ways based on the history things COULD have gone differently. The more plausible the new "story", the better the stamp keeps right? So maybe her greater than normal skill could be attributed to not only to the intricate designs of her stamps, but the frame of mind she can easily hold. Not saying "she believes it, so it happens", just she can wrap her head around possibilities better than most. This post may just be a waste of space, but just writing some thoughts that popped in my head.

True, but from what I have seen, they are attracted to the phenomena. So putting a bowl of water down for a dog to drink is not trapping it. It is voluntarily attracted to the bowl of water to drink. It can just as easily go elsewhere and drink. Windspren do not have sentience like Syl, yet they do have enough cognitive functions to play pranks on the unwary. Another analogy in my opinion would be zoo animals. They are taken care of, and given a similar environment, but they are still caged animals. Spren do not seem to me as the phenomena themselves, so I do not see them as a natural source to be consumed, rather as entities attracted to certain phenomena. I see it as taking a living being, and locking them away from what would normally be their natural progression, and using them to power items. Now it could very well be no where near be as torturous as I paint it. In fact, the spren could be overjoyed from serving their functions, such as flame spren giving heat, and so on. Just how the whole thing kinda sounds to my ears. Your interpretation is quite valid.

Thanks for the reference!

True you wouldn't be tearing someone's soul apart, but it would in my opinion, still be a dark alley process since you have to capture a spren for it. Given that we met spren with sentience such as syl, pattern, wyndle and ivory, it would feel to me too much like chaining a horse to a conveyor belt attached to a generator, and making it run non stop to power your tv.

1. But it would not explain why they as a culture would hold onto and preserve the very weapons to fight and kill their stone gods (thunderclasts). If the logic is to keep it out of the hands of those that would use it to kill their stone gods (thunderclasts), then why let Szeth walk off with one. But interesting thought all the same. 2. Sounds good to me 3. I could swing either way on this. On one hand it is an assumption that that individual was a squire, on the other all we know so far is that squires can heal like the radiants, so no idea how many powers they do or do not have. 4. Also could swing either way on this one. On one hand it would be cliche to kill him off, on the other Brandon has shown he does not shy away from killing characters, and has done so in well written ways, so if he were to kill him off, I agree it would be heart renching. 5. I do not know that reference, but makes sense, at least to me that is. 6. lol 7. It has been too long since I last read Warbreaker for me to adequately comment on this 8. yeah, that comes across as too literally a deus ex machina for me (cue corny drum patter). 9. now I am kinda curious what 9 was going to be 10. I think some or all of his family will be dead by the time he gets home. 11. Lol, pretty much you said anything I would have. It is a clever idea to have a short story actually be the ones above, so brandon could honestly say we have already seen them, without spoiling as to who they are, but the empire is huge, so would have at least picked up numerous shardworlds into its fold, and the individuals shown would have exhibited some powers during the fight scene. But again, clever idea, and would impress me if that was Brandon's plan to give us the slip 12. Hmmmm, Ross would be busy mopping with Kaladin, Phoebe and Shallan would be doing an artist jam where she plays guitar while Shallan draws to the music, Joey and Adolin would cruise for chicks, Monica and Jasnah would be anal about EVERYTHING, Rachel would be shopping with Sabriel's wife (did I remember the correct highprince for that?) and Chandler and Wit would team up and say "could we BE any funnier?" 13. His talent alone could break the rule that he is not cosmere, thus making his world cosmere, and then he could break time to be back before the shattering of Adolnasium and thus cause it. So no wormhole needed afterall 14. meh, nothing wrong with throwing out ideas, no matter how outlandish. Never know when one may stick. There was a whole thread where people would suggest what they think would happen, and the next poster would say whether they buy, that it could happen, or sell, think it wouldn't happen. More than half of the things sold ended up coming true, so you never really know for sure.

Stormlight to Breath Ratio: Official Answer
Pathfinder replied to Gamma Fiend's topic in Cosmere Discussion
Well my line of reasoning was that since he needs to "eat" breath, he would go out into a storm, absorb stormlight, most lost in conversion, with the remaining held perfectly to sustain him X number of breaths till he has to go back out into the storm due to what he consumed. If we are assuming a lot is lost in the conversion process, then it would be difficult to maintain his disguise, and go around stealing or draining spheres all around him near constantly. I realize all I say is conjecture, and if there are in book points that would dispute that, I will totally go along with it. I was just writing this to hopefully further clarify my initial statement.- 35 replies

Not that I can recall, but I am reading through mistborn for a 3rd time just because I enjoy that trilogy so much, so if I notice anything, I will definitely let you know. Yeah, it was very vague in how that exactly worked, like how she inspired Blueth (did I remember the name correctly? It has been awhile since I read it, I am referring to the slave driver guard with the hat) by drawing him differently, and helped him become a better person. She was not actually using stormlight during it, and yet seemed to have a magical affect of transformation.

I think the group of leaves was incorporeal, and that the handful of sharp triangular thingies would be difficult because that would require her manifesting physically and in multiple separate parts. But I have no evidence to say it wouldn't be possible. I do agree, two smaller blades would be less damaging to large beasts. Just look at Kal's fight with the chasmfiend. It wasn't till he was swallowed and cut up into the brain that he did any real damage. Had the blade been larger, then greater sweeps could have reached its heart or other organs. Or even reached the brain without having to nearly sacrifice his own life in the process.

Aren't all returned mostly different from their original form? They are all jacked out, and very well...ahem....endowed, unlike they were in life.

Unfortunately I cannot remember where I read it, and I could be butchering a WoB, so if so, please by all means correct me, but although each other shares a surge from another order, it manifests slightly different, or through combining with their other surge creates a different affect. So although windrunners and skybreakers both have gravity, there might be a slight difference. How that will manifest I do not know.

I understand it is your personal theory, and I respect it, and I hope my reply is in no way received as critical. Personally I do not feel that is the case, because it would be too meta considering his body of work. Comicbooks did that, and it never did sit well with me. But that is wholly my own opinion.

Maybe Elsecallers and Truthwatchers, Elsecallers are wisdom and care, while truthwatchers are learned and giving. You gain wisdom through learning, and can give care to others. Pure conjecture, but hey why not right? lol

So I am asking these questions, not to criticize, nor disprove what I said, but to make sure I understand what you wrote correctly. So since the metals are the portal, then if I am continually burning pewter, would I then have a higher level of investiture since it is continually pouring through me than when I just have the metals in my body and I am not burning? Also then by that logic, as long as a surgebinder is not actually holding stormlight in them, then they are low investiture beings? So then the level of their investiture relies on how much stormlight they are holding at the time? So theoretically if a mistborn is flaring pewter while a surgebinder has like two gems worth of stormlight, then in that case the mistborn would be more heavily invested? Well the reason I stated lightweaving, is Shallan lightweaving herself affected how she perceived herself, and how the group of marauders saw her. she brought out their good nature with her "lie" of them. I saw this as a force of almost emotional allomancy. I also realize it would be difficult for copper to work against it since they are different power systems, but I just saw a similarity there and was curious.

Stormlight to Breath Ratio: Official Answer
Pathfinder replied to Gamma Fiend's topic in Cosmere Discussion
Yep, it has been a very long time since I read warbreaker, so I could be remembering that Vasher was the one that made them incorrectly. We did not know that other power systems could be powered by other power systems on other worlds till WoB that told us as much, so there is not anything conclusive saying that having a expansive knowledge of investiture and how it works would not enable Vasher from finding a way to hold stormlight perfectly in his body, but we also have absolutely nothing saying that it could. Just a thought to throw out there.- 35 replies

Stormlight to Breath Ratio: Official Answer
Pathfinder replied to Gamma Fiend's topic in Cosmere Discussion
Well there is mention in the book that voidbringers could hold stormlight perfectly. Although it is a stretch and there is absolutely no evidence to prove this, I think it could be a logical leap to say if Zahel/Vasher was knowledgeable enough about breaths to create nightblood and the overpowered lifeless (forgot what they were called), and was knowledgeable enough to worldhop AND convert the native power system to fuel him, then he would be knowledgeable enough to hold stormlight perfectly. But again, it is a leap of logic.- 35 replies

Allomancy or Feruchemy for every day life
Pathfinder replied to hoidhunter's topic in Cosmere Discussion
Usually whenever there is a power system I love, I geek out by imagining I can use it casually in my day to day life. I am pretty much on the fence, but I am leaning towards allomancy for a few personal reasons. First Allomantic pewter vs Feruchemical pewter, i lean towards Allomantic pewter, because the hardest part of my morning work out is getting out of bed, just burn some pewter and I will feel energized and ready for the day. Then have a slow burn of pewter on while I work out so I could go above and beyond what I could normally do, in order to get greater returns, and then a slow burn to recover. Now true I could accomplish the same by tapping determination, and storing strength, but I like the added dexterity, balance and durability during the work out and day to day actions. True Feruchemical steel speed gives you theoretically more speed than flying with Allomantic steel, but when traveling through manhattan, with the sidewalk congested with people, and the street swamped with traffic, all the speed in the world isn't going to get you anywhere with people in your way. With Allomantic steel, I can simply rise above and over, and considering all the skyscrapers, spider-man aint got a thang on me. True with feruchemy all you need is a set of bracers you can continually store and tap vs a vial of metals that run out, but when you have to drop by the court house and go through a metal detector, taking off a vial of metals is a lot easier vs removing all your metal minds and then putting them all back on. On one hand having gold would mean I could chose my sick days whenever I want, but on the other hand if I was coming down with a cold, I could just burn pewter, and it is much cheaper to get my hands on. Soothing and Rioting would be useful during job interviews, and only lightly used on individuals sort of like Breeze does but not with the intention of making someone do something they wouldn't normally do or bring harm to them. bendalloy bubbles would just be too cool to not have. sure binge eating and not getting fat is great, but bending time? awesome! Same thing with cadmium. Waiting for take out but hungry right now? Burn cadmium in short bursts to turn that 20 minutes to 5. Out of curiosity I actually looked on ebay and you can get a bunch of the more common metals for like 2 bucks, so assuming they are the right allomantic ratio, keeping well stocked in metals wouldn't be totally hard. Hmmmm, so it looks like I am actually in camp allomancy after all -
Stormlight to Breath Ratio: Official Answer
Pathfinder replied to Gamma Fiend's topic in Cosmere Discussion
Since Kal and Szeth could absorb stormlight from a highstorm while it is happening to continually surgebind, wouldn't it make more sense for Zahel to stand outside during a storm to absorb as much stormlight as he needs rather than trying to get his hands on enough gems that have enough stormlight for him to absorb? Though during the weeping he would definitely need to stock pile.- 35 replies

I am curious about that as well. copper does block emotional allomancy, but does not block the other forms of allomancy, so would it block lightweaving which is sorta emotional surgebinding but not soulcasting?
