  1. Would he really need them to? Set up a mirror, rip out your own tooth, slide in the metalmind tooth, heal just enough that the bone and gum closes over the implant. Rinse and repeat.
  2. Although none of this has been outright confirmed (correct me if I am wrong), it is pretty much accepted that the reason Dalinar got nauseous was because he was a proto radiant. There is a WoB regarding the Thrill and the visions but I cannot recall it too well, so I will abstain from stating it till someone else can hopefully quote it. From what we have seen of Kaladin, I think it is confirmed he has never experienced the thrill. The implication is that by becoming a radiant, the thrill sickens you or stops affecting you in so far as being turned into a bloodthirsty barbarian.
  3. Granted, but it is stuck somewhere rather unpleasant and you cannot remove it. I wish for Sanderson to become popular enough that I could purchase his merchandise in a more prevalent and affordable manner than through badali jewerly alone. My fiance was awesome enough to make me a funco inquisitor herself but still would be nice for her and my relatives to be able to get me a christmas/birthday gift easier lol.
  4. Add to that that people typically go to loan sharks when banks won't lend you money. Lin was massively in debt. Any bank would view him as high risk with minimal chance of paying back (especially considering his means of paying back was as you stated ccstat, illegal, so he couldn't exactly say "I can totally pay you back because a criminal organization is going to give me a religious relic I am not supposed to have to make mineral deposits that do not exist yet, to make the money to pay you back). Loan sharks on the other hand, do lend to such people because they will get massive amounts of interest on the money, or simply kill the person and collect on the money some other way (sell into slavery, etc). So like ccstat said, just because we do not see him go to a bank instead of a loan shark, does not mean they do not exist. It could just be it is not a viable option for him. having re-read the points made, I believe if I recall correctly the order of operations was Shallan's mother dies->Lin handles his estate poorly losing money->Lin continues to spend the same level of money to maintain appearances->Davar family near or are bankrupt. At this point if Lin went to a bank, they would refuse based on his poor management, lack of any further resources on his land to recoup and pay them back, and given his reputation doubtful anyone on the up and up would seek to make a trade agreement with him for him to pay back the bank. Given no other choice, he sought less savory creditors, but continued to drive his house into ruin, to which he then reached out to the ghostbloods to solve the creditor problem. I am fairly sure that was the order, but I can check later on to be sure.
  5. All very good points, but I feel if that was the case, they would speak of Devotion or Dominion in a more active way than just swearing by devotion. Now that is very loose and doesn't have much to support it, more just my own instinct on that so please do not take that as me saying you are incorrect. Just it doesn't feel like it fits right for me personally. Not to start a debate, but Rashek aimed to ensure he would be around to keep Ruin locked up, and prevent anyone who could be potentially manipulated by Ruin from gaining enough power to stop him. Now we know ultimately that Ruin was able to manipulate him, but that was more to give Ruin's chosen tool (Vin) a chance to end Rashek. Ruin knew if Rashek stayed where he was, Ruin would never escape. Rashek would always be the one to take up the power, and knowing that it is a prison, always make sure Ruin stays put. Now it can be debated if that course of action balances against the lives his tyranny ended, but you are asking for the justification of the maintenance of the status quo. And simply that response is the containment of Ruin.
  6. Ah if that is the case, then I understand ari's assumption more now. Personally I am on the fence between that, and the dominion/devotion theory. Haven't seen enough evidence either way to sway me definitively to either side yet.
  7. and then after a good right or left hook, there goes your metal minds lol (I agree it is a good idea for Wayne, just found the image of him being toothless and unable to heal for a little while hilarious)
  8. Well I would say regardless, your gums would still be touching the metal so that would count as living tissue in contact.
  9. I believe the other posts was to try to clarify terms and prevent confusion. Some terms that are coined to help have been dead shardblades and sprenblades. Shardblades that anyone can use, are dead spren locked into blade form, and Radiants can theoretically use them just hear never ending screaming. The theory regarding shardplate is the reason that radiants do not hear it scream is that it may be made of lesser spren (wind spren to honor spren, and creation spren to cryptics). However this is a theory and although a WoB does lend it credence, it is not confirmed.
  10. If you pay close attention to the scene where Wit first speaks with Shallan when she is younger, he is soothing her. Vasher is feeding his need for breaths with stormlight. So it is possible to have a magic system from outside the planet, and still use it on a planet other than its origin.
  11. I think another thing that needs to be accounted for (not disagreeing with anyone by stating this, I love where this discussion has been going, and this is just to add), is the fact that Roshar has gone through multiple "dark" ages. Now when I say that, I am coining the term not in reference to the culture but more from the loss of technology and starting from square one. The difference however, is a large part of the previous technology, the current culture had preserved, and learned how to employ which has given them a leg up. For instance, if I recall correctly, the technology of concrete that the greeks had was lost for hundreds of years before we figured it out for ourselves. Even now we cannot replicate the way they build where whole buildings stand without any need of binding agent. They were able to stack the stones in such a way that the stones themselves sat perfectly. Greek fire we also have yet to replicate. Now maybe what I am recalling are myths, or false history passed down, but I was using this more to illustrate the point. How much would our technology have been affected if after the dark ages, people were able to reverse engineer far more technologies than we were able to. I liken soulcasters, shardplate, and shardblades to the bronze age version of us discovering replicators, shields, and laser guns. By themselves, insanely over powered, but even though they have would not have been emulated directly, it certainly would point technology in the right direction by knowing it is possible. Storms, we could have ended up with computers like fallout 4, years before we actually made ones the size of rooms.
  12. Ah, perfect. That makes much more sense for my headcannon. Thanks for the explanation! Well there are a lot of theories, but the one I am mostly behind, and WoB does imply is going in the right direction is that minor spren (wind spren for honor spren, creation spren for cryptic spren), end up forming up into the armor as the radiant progresses in their oaths. Also not all of orders decided to use shardplate at all.
  13. How much do you know about our friend called Hoid and Vasher?
  14. But shortly after they speak of "having a shard of our own". If devotion or dominion were reformed, and thereby they having a fully formed and owned shard, why would they start it that way?
  15. Eventually when they begin implementing sewer systems and subways, those tunnels will have metal all over them and at least with the sewers, just below the asphalt. So wouldn't need spike ways. There would be metal everywhere.
  16. The Lord Ruler could crush any rebellion himself easily, and yet he uses koloss and inquisitors. Why? He has the power. But he doesn't because having to constantly use that level of power for mundane means would be inefficient. So he outsources and accomplishes the same goals, but with less effort or focus on his part. Same stands for Nale. Storms I am not even saying he wouldn't fly at all. I personally think transportation makes the most sense, but Moogle made the great point that he could fly and be cloaked with a lightweaver fabrial. When you have the technology to make things easier, it just doesn't make sense to go through all this trouble to accomplish a goal solely under your own "power".
  17. To ring in on the whole gunpowder and siege weapon portion of this thread. As stated by Mace, typically siege weapons are intended to take down walls or buildings, not single targets, so I feel debating that the advancement of gunpowder is tied to siege weapons is faulty, especially that was not the order in its development. The first gunpowder driven weapons were attached to spears, and were more like flame throwers. Then they started putting shrapnel in with it. Also I think the reason we have not seen any siege weaponry yet is not due to lack of gunpowder, but due to the environment. Typically a army gathers up, and makes camp outside the city they are laying siege to. They do occasional attacks, cut off supply lines and food, and set up siege weapons to damage walls, barracks, and gates. If this was on Roshar, it would require the attacking army to sit out in the open during highstorms. Siege weapons would suffer massively as they take a lot to move, a lot to set up, a lot of time to fire, and a lot to dismantle for something in the grand scheme of things that is very fragile. By the time the army showed up, and braced themselves out in the open by using soulcasters for windbreaks, and set up their siege weapons, a highstorm would have come by and damaged the siege weapon before it could have even fired. But if we consider that an infantry man can strap a fire lance to their spears, or throw grenados at a shardbearer and shatter large pieces of the armor, then gunpowder suddenly isn't so limited by the shardplate.
  18. Granted, there is a celebrity with the same first name as you. I wish for a mistborn, and stormlight video games where you could play as a full mistborn in the mistborn game, and any of the radiant orders in the stormlight game
  19. I have not seen that WoB, and personally I assume he was referring to only stormlight, but that makes me think, if that is the case then would a radiant with stormlight and plate be twice as strong as an allomancer with pewter? I am not saying it wouldn't make sense if that was a case, since they are basically wearing power armor, but that just made me think. Yeah I saw that WoB somewhere too, which kinda surprised me in comparison to what we see Vin do/accomplish. Just doubling the natural strength doesn't feel like a big increase, but then again as I type this, from a strictly number comparison, being able to bench press 220 pounds as Jimmy stated, when compared to being able to bench press 440 pounds is pretty decent.
  20. But again, you are assuming a lot that this legendary herald can do, just to accomplish something that can be done far simpler, far easier, and far more covert with the aid of a fabrial.
  21. Which is exactly my point. I do not think based on the information we have that the simplest solution is that he only flies around via gravitation. That if that was the case, the amount of issues he would have to account for, and deal with would be impractical. Yes he could have stormlight caches everywhere. Yes he could fly far far up so he is mistaken as a star spren. Yes he could fly patterns wasting stormlight to skirt cities far out of his flight path and yes he could land miles away from said cities and walk in to avoid notice. Or, my point, he could just use the additional aid of the fabrial and avoid having to do any of that. I also think the assumption that because the oathgate is massive in order to transport armies, foreign dignitaries, and trade across massive distances does not preclude the use of a single person version of said fabrial. I am not arguing that it is impossible, I am stating given the other options it is impractical to travel by gravitation alone. Ah perfect! Thanks! I have pasted the map portion of my posts below: would be flying from Iri (Ym), over Babatharnam which has the city of Panatham, all of Azir to get to Azimir (Lift), to then fly over Emul, Greater Hexi, and Kharanak to reach the Shattered Plains. For Kal to travel half that from Urithiru to Hearthstone, he expends all of his stormlight (half that referring going just from Azimir to the Shattered Plains by itself).
  22. As mentioned in another thread that went exactly the same way, the amount of stormlight necessary to attain such heights mentioned, for such distances mentioned would be unfeasible. Either Nalan simply due to being a herald can travel three times the distance Kaladin can, filled to the brim (so same amount of stormlight) like Kaladin, far higher in the air than Kaladin or he will need to make numerous stops increasing his chances of discovery. If you reference a map of Roshar, Nale would have to fly well out of his way to travel to the cities mentioned (I named specifically the cities as well as the rough distances when compared to Kaladin's travel to hearthstone. if you would like those details, please ask and I will be happy to locate the other thread and post them here). Szeth has been flying all over the place and has been seen flying all over the place. Nale would not want to be seen as he is aware of the various secret societies (namely sons of honor) who are working to bring him and the others back by bringing back the voidbringers. So in my opinion, by Occam's Razor, I feel it makes a whole lot more sense that Nale could be using additional help via fabrials (regardless what powers those fabrials would be providing) in order to go from point A to point B. He could be using transportation, he could be using natural gravitation with an illumination fabrial, or any other combination you can think of. But I think using gravitation alone would bring far more issues than its worth.
  23. Was it even mentioned in the books how soulcasters came about being used in "modern" day? I got a sense it was kind of like shardplate and shardblades. They found those particular fabrials, but did not actually create them like they did with span reeds and so on. It is a hazzy recall, so if I remember in error I concede.
  24. Isn't there a theory that the other 9 heralds have been corrupted by forsaking the oath pact and are now the 10 fools, which act in opposite, or negatively in view of the ideals they original held? Not saying its fact, but it is a theory I do feel has some solid foundation.
