  1. I don't see Wax at that point in the story listening to Wayne if he stood up to object during the ceremony.
  2. In that quote: edit:
  3. I think there are WoB somewhere that the implication was whoever came up with that Vorin tradition did it to get shardblades (which typically require two hands to wield)(not sprenblades) out of women's hands.
  4. My problem with this is typically in vs battles (or at least how I envision them), you take two characters put them in an arena, and then say FIGHT! a la mortal kombat style. Batman beating superman, The Lord Ruler or any other powered individual always assumes he has the time, and resources in order to find out said weakness, adapt said weakness to his personal arsenal, and employ said weakness. In an arena fight I just gave the example of, batman would have none of these. This goes under the same logic of Vin beating Kaladin or Kaladin beating Vin. In a straight up fight on the battlefield Kaladin would win. Outside the battlefield Vin would win with an assassination. That's why although valid, I feel the "batman wins because batman will think of anything he needs to do to win" ironically becomes a deus ex machina lol. He wins because he is batman and he would be able to think of a way to win. Eventually there will be a intelligence curve where Batman won't be able to out think everyone and won't be able to solve every problem no matter how he plans
  5. That was actually going to be my next question, assuming these powers involve blowing things up with your mind for instance (the more violent option), then how were these powers gained? Did one day the entire planet wake up and have these abilities? Did the people evolve them as they evolved into homo sapiens? Do you get them on birth, adolescents, or from a certain scenario(i.e. traumatic experience, or initiation)? Those answers would vastly affect the outcome. Let's say for instance everyone just one day woke up with that ability, regardless of age. Then we would have a philosophical discourse on whether people are inherently good, or inherently bad. Either way there would be a massive amount of life lost across the globe as people realized they have this ability, how it works, and how they chose to use it. I like to believe deep down everyone is inherently good, with bad apples in varying degrees rising up. So I feel although a lot of life would be lost, over a long enough period of time, a homeostatis would be achieved where either those who are good would outnumber those who are murderous, and work to restore order in the pursuit of just being able to live without worrying about being blown up every other minute, or enough people will realize/rise up based on their own self interest realizing if this continues no one will be left as a species or a planet and institute the same rules just to maintain their existence. Now let's say it arose naturally during evolution. That I would lean towards Bryce's earlier comment about living far apart. If these abilities popped up during let's say neanderthal times, then every fight over a potential mate could wipe out the entire tribe. Nomadic solitary lives would be preferable as exploded food is no food for anyone, so the use of abilities would be limited, and territory ranges would be large swaths of land. Actually describing it that way, I am unsure if humans would ever evolve into the society we know today with technology if that was the case. We would never fear predators because we could pop them with our mind. The only tool use would be to hunt or have shelter. Shelter would be fleeting because anytime another male challenges the territory, it could be vaporized in a second. Why spend all this effort on something that could be atomized on a bad day? The biggest limiting factor is the power I am imagining based on the description, you cannot defend against. The only way to win, is be the first one to use it. So the skill, and advantage would be to the stealthy and quick power users. If you get them at birth, there is the issue that Rasarr brought up, which would result in the tiniest tantrum killing everyone in the area as well as possibly the baby. We would become extinct very quickly lol. If you get them at adolescents, there is more room to work with. The child can be trained in what is expected of them, and schooled in how their power is allowed to be used. There would probably be a lot of psychological tests and evaluations to hopefully determine whether the child would be a risk if left to mature to puberty. If it is from traumatic experience, I could see there be massive monitoring stations to make sure anytime a person may get that power, they are found, and contained for the survival of the rest of the people around. Especially when you cannot predict how someone will cope with a traumatic experience. It could very well end up "hmmm, my whole life sucks, and now I have a power to make other people suffer like I have......". Finally if you gain the power from initiation, then there will be a dictatorship or totalitarian regime where only those that toe the line will be granted power.
  6. No worries. It does make sense in my mind in lieu of the scene in the Broadsheet, I just wanted to check if there was a signing I missed with any tasty bits
  7. Some have said, and I personally am inclined to agree, that we have already seen that begin with Shallan (when she draws and she is surrounded by tons of creation spren, seemingly more than typical), and when Kal fights Szeth (windspren surround him and fly with him)
  8. The WoB regarding aluminum and healing is only the wound it makes. So if I was Miles for instance, and I got shot with 5 normal bullets and 1 aluminum bullet, the 5 normal would be pushed out and healed, but the 1 aluminum I would have to carve out to then heal. So based on the info regarding instances, it is your theory that burning aluminum for a fullborn would get rid of a stored attribute, not that there was a WoB or an instance in the books that we see that? Again I am not saying your wrong, I just want to clarify if this is something concrete and confirmed, or a theory.
  9. Makes me wonder what David's father's weakness is.
  10. Wasn't it confirmed that Adonalsium is actually a he as in a being?
  11. There WoB or quotes on that? Not disagreeing, just this is the first time I am hearing of it, so if so, I am learning something new
  12. I wonder, would forcing a fullborn to burn aluminum also expend what they have stored in their metal minds? I don't think so, but we do have a possible example of a leecher being able to at least prevent another magic system from working at least temporarily.
  13. Honestly I think if everyone had the same powers and the same power level, it would be a lot like how life is now. I could theoretically walk up to a random person and beat them with my fists to death if it so took me in that moment. Just like they could have the equal ability to defend themselves. Now that person could work out and be in better shape than me, or have taken martial arts, and thereby be able to defend themselves easily. Just like someone with the same powers as I, could have practiced with them more, or used them in more combat orientated situations. We have society and laws in place to prevent that random occurrence, and if it does occur a means to punish or stop that occurrence from happening again. I think where it becomes iffy is depending on what power system, or powers you are giving people. If everyone was a mistborn, then everyone could counter pushes and pulls, could use copper to insulate them from soothing, and burn chromium when touching someone assaulting them to get rid of their metals. Then its just two people smacking each other up lol. Same thing with everyone being radiants, just better, because everyone would have a nahel bond to make sure they were mostly good people lol. Now if we were discussing a power system where people could just blow stuff up with their minds because (read Johnny the Homicidal Maniac), then either everyone would wipe themselves out, or a sort of mutual assured destruction law would be put into place till technology could be developed to neutralize the powers from people who were insane or a homicidal maniac.
  14. translation, because batman lol. He even has a plan for not having a plan, and that plan is.......be batman
  15. We do not know what happens to Jasnah when Shallan changes the boat which is when Shallan entered shadesmar. Basically the order I believe we have so far is Shallan sees Jasnah stabbed. Shallan hides in room. Jasnah elsecalls to shadesmar completely. Jasnah notices one light going out that a man has died, the same time that pattern tells Shallan one dead, bleeding red (also states men are tied up). Shallan stays still for a bit out of fear, then works her way over to Jasnah's cabin. Meanwhile Jasnah talks to Ivory about the men dying, and trying to get back while Grinders are coming. Realizing she cannot get back, she grabs the ropes, changing them. Jasnah's excerpt ends. Shallan's side she finds the hidden stormlight cache, talks to pattern, her helps her get to shadesmar and she talks to the boat. It is then more people die while talking to the boat, and she transforms it. So we do not know where Jasnah went after she transformed the ropes. She could have fled right after that, which would have been just before Shallan entered Shadesmar. lol was so busy researching this and typing it, that Argent already replied.
  16. I think there is a WoB that confirms this.
  17. Maybe Kel hid the "bands" and made the rumors so both the northerners and the southerners would eventually have a reason to run into each other sooner than later?
  18. Also before Warbreaker. There are WoB that state that the creation of Nightblood was inspired by seeing shardblades from a previous visit to Roshar
  19. Well my logic goes this way. If the oathgates don't work because the Heralds broke their pact, then: 1. why does that oathgate now work when the heralds haven't shown up like in the past to help mankind? 2. if the oathgate is a surgebinding transportation fabrial, then why does the surgebinding regrowth fabrial Nale uses work?
  20. Well from a monetary stand point I see the reverse. It is either spend a large amount of money on your city's budget for making reinforced light posts or, make it illegal to push on them, requiring all coinshots to use the sewer system to push on and fine any coinshots that disobey the law. That way you already have an infrastructure to use without additional expenses, as well as a slight "tax" income from those that disobey and cause damage.
  21. I am going to spoiler just in case because I will be referencing a lot of books so rather err on the side of caution
  22. im better at citing book quotes, as my search fu is weak but fortunately I was able to find it, and turns out it is a WoP but still valid, please see below: http://www.17thshard.com/forum/topic/5854-setting-limits-on-the-size-of-roshar-the-planet-and-roshar-the-continent/page-4?p=94976#entry94976
  23. ..........and exactly you have no concrete information to back any of that statement up whatsoever. There are mounds on the shatteredplains. It must be dead chulls. Oh wait, when cut into it is clearly abandoned buildings from a previous culture. So yeah there could be no other reason for build up of crem
  24. Roshar's soil a la crem has a higher nutrient content due to highstorms. The gravity is also lower than earths otherwise crustaceans of that size would be impossible. Shallan herself comments that the chasm fiends migrate which I will quote below, but while I am doing that, can you provide the quote that shows chasm fiends only eat rock buds? I can provide plenty of quotes showing them eating chulls, bridgemen, and parshendi. Where are you getting this information that they only subsist on rockbuds? Words of Radiance page 572 "They must have an interesting life cycle. They haunt these chasms, but I doubt they actually live here. There's not enough food to support creatures of their size. That means they come here as part of some migratory pattern. They come here to pupate. Have you ever seen a juvenile? before they form the chrysalis?" Adolin and Shallan go on to discuss the shape of the chrysalis to attempt to identify the taxonomy of the creature. Shown below is comparing it to a sea creature. So we do not even know the stages of life and forms the chasm fiend takes, yet you can state with certainty that this is the only answer? Shallan even points out the faulty nature of such theorizing. Words of Radiance page 573 "This might be a false positive, a coincidence. The yu-nerig are an aquatic species. The only time they come onto land is to pupate. Seems tenuous to assume a relationship to chasmfiends...." This is expanded upon showing that we do not see chasmfiends at either the beginning nor the mainstay of their life cycle due to the next quote: Words of Radiance 574 "You're not hunting them here, Adolin. You'r harvesting them. You're systematically destroying their juvenile population." So you mean to tell me, it is not possible that like many insects and crustaceans on our own world, that the chasmfiend couldn't eat and stock up on calories back in Natantan and grow to their size, and then migrate to the shattered plains where they pupate?
