Aren't there WoB that if you absorbed enough mist or enough lerasium, you would ascend?

So upfront I did not see the movie. I had no intention of seeing the movie except to rent it at some point, so I did not care about spoilers in the review I watched. Then curious about what the reviewers stated, I wikied the plot. So take what I say as biased that I came into it not interested, and I am basing my opinion on the summary. Having warned of that, I will put all my comments in a spoilers tag as they spoil the entire movie. This is more to go back and forth with those who have seen the movie and get their thoughts on my issues, as they have seen it, while I have only read it. So in summation, I didn't even see this movie, and it left a bad taste in my mouth. Can anyone who has seen it redeem it for me enough to want to see it? And I realize I already know the whole plot, what would be the point? But I never care about spoilers. Even when I know the end of something, I still enjoy experiencing it. But I don't see much reason to in this case.

On one hand I appreciate Sanderson taking the time to try and do a lgbt character justice, but on the other I feel like why would it be so hard to do? Straight, lesbian, gay, bi or transgender, they are all the same, they are people. The only difference is they have different tastes in who they are attracted to or how they identify. I mean I get he wouldn't want to do the cliche trope or stereotype them, but I could only see it as being a central issue to a story if the world or culture treats the topic like our world at the moment treats it. Then it would be difficult on an author who never experienced the hardships growing up, and living in such a society to relate and write such a character. But otherwise in the end we are all just human.

There are theories that that is the beginnings of shardplate. That lesser spren are attacted to radiants and form the plate. Since they are lesser, no screaming, but since they are spren, have limited transformation abilities.

Riiiiiiiite, been awhile since I played, my bad. Got so pissed at the lack of any content that I sold it back ASAP. Well I am sure in world they can think they look cool as a hive leaps at them from the side and rips off their head, hood and all lolol
-
Exactly! Let me block most of my peripheral vision while going into combat with multiple foes. Makes perfect sense . Only thing worse is the warlock in Destiny. There is literally absolutely no reason/use to have a hood when you are wearing a space suit complete with helmet.

Also regarding the speed of evolution. We are basing the speed on humans from Earth while the Scadrialians are based on humans from Yolen. We have no idea how their physiology might differ from us. Just because it walks and talks like a "human", doesn't make it a "human".

True could be a lot of things, but my own interpretation is speaking to a loved one that had passed away in the past regarding a crisis in the present. Like saying "Oh, Tina... I wish you were hear. I am losing it. I don't know what to do anymore". That is just how it felt/sounded to me.

I am hazy on recollection, but wasn't it mentioned either in the story itself, or in a WoB that Leras had a individual with a name that sounded like a woman that began with an S that was important to him? I assumed she was his wife or love interest.

Iron: Allomancy, some what limited telekinesis is still telekinesis lol Steel: Allomancy, same for the reason above Tin: Feruchemy, I like being selective in my senses, being to amplify some and deaden others, instead of all immediately being maxed Pewter: Allomancy, it just covers so many bases, keeps me warm when its cold, heals me, makes me durable preventing damage, makes me faster, stronger, and greater endurance which covers to a lesser extent steel speed, brass warmth, bronze wakefulness, bendalloy energy, and gold health Zinc: Feruchemy, I like the idea of being able to accelerate my thinking processes in critical situations, and any effect I would get from rioting, I could also get by soothing but by dampening instead of inciting. Brass: Allomancy, I don't need brass warmth because I have pewter, so a little soothing to grease the palms persay and be extra charismatic never hurts. Copper: Feruchemy, for storing memories Bronze: allomancy, for seeking on scadrial, or feruchemy on earth to help me sleep at night Cadmium: Allomancy, although Marasi thinks it is useless, I think it would be helpful in day to day actions. I would never need to be impatient because I would just have to burn it and ding whatever I am waiting for is done Bendalloy: Allomancy, similar as above, time manipulation, even though it is localized and small bursts, can still be used in a myriad of fun ways Gold: Although pewter heals, it is still slow, so a little extra health in a moment that could kill me outright never hurts, and by burning pewter, storing gold would be a breeze. Electrum: Allomancy, poor man's atium. Between regeneration, durability, time control, accelerated thinking, emotion control, telekinesis and enhanced senses, I figure I am already pretty hard to kill, so electrum is more to nullify if an enemy is using atium. Chromium: Don't fully understand this ability yet, so hard to pick, but if on Scadrial, then Allomancy to be a leecher. Never hurts to be able to touch your opponent and remove albeit briefly all his abilities he is using against you at just the right moment. If on earth and no other allomantic enemies, then probably feruchemy for luck even though we do not know how it works yet. Nicrosil: I personally do not fully understand how this power works, but what little I do get, I say feruchemy. On earth with no other allomancers, being able to enhance someone else's metals does not make sense (unless my fiance also got to pick her powers, then we would team up lol), on Scadrial it would be also iffy. I wouldn't necessarily need to enhance someone else, except again unless my fiance got powers too. Aluminum: Allomancy, if it works as suggested, then on Scadrial it would get rid of any investiture being used on me. If on earth, I never have to worry about burning out all my metals before I sleep. I just burn aluminum and I am good Duraluminum: Allomancy in a heart beat. Being able to do any of the allomantic abilities I have selected jacked out is just too good to pass up for me. Atium: If on Scadrial then a spike to steal allomantic copper to smoke, if on earth then feruchemy because I know there will be days that if i felt younger I would be able to accomplish things I wouldn't as I get older.

And in that we will just have to agree to disagree. I understand and respect your opinion, but still think otherwise.

Other Possible uses for Soulstamps?

So you say I can't reference Dilaf as representative of Derethi, yet he is a gragdet which is a leader of a monastery and is the highest rank in the organization, only below Wyrm himself. As to still holding that it would not be a genocide due to getting Eventeo to convert, or that it is Dilaf and not Wyrn who wanted the eradication here is another quote: page 452 Elantris kindle edition: "you will kill the Teos as well" Hrathen said in Fjordell. "no." Dilaf said "others will perform those executions. i will just kill their king, then burn Teod's ships with the sailors still on them. Once the armada is gone, Wyrn can land his armies on Teod's shore and use the country as a battleground to prove his might." Sel and Scadrial are most definitely the same scale. Both concern world domination. The only difference is on Sel, the Derethi were more successful/further along in the plan by having taken over most of the land at that point. All that would have remained after Arelon and Teo would be the Rose Empire.

Does anyone else love Sterris now? [Bands Spoilers]
Pathfinder replied to mattig89ch's topic in Mistborn
So I have anxiety and find it easy to feel overwhelmed at times. Most of my early life was avoiding responsibility because of this. Then I got help and got better with dealing with it. A by product of that is scheduling everything I do. Now I do not mean rigidly. I do not have a break down if plans change. But by scheduling, I do not forget what I need to do, I know i have time to do it so I don't worry, and if things change, I know I have other options to move that change to. It helps me so if something unforeseen happens, I can check my calendar and see it is ok. I do not have to stress about finding other options, will those options work out, and if there will be any issues with those other options. They are all there already, and can be selected or cast off as needed. Ironically I feel by scheduling my day, I give myself more flexibility. That is what I feel Steris does. -
Elantris page 96 kindle edition: "It will be destroyed," Dilaf prophesied, his eyes filled with anger. "Jaddeth will not wait while our arteths preach His name against the unyielding walls of Teo hearts." "Lord Jaddeth can only return when all men are united beneath Fjordell rule, Arteth," Hrathen said, turning away from his contemplation of Elantris and moving to enter the chapel. "That includes the ones in Teod." Dilaf's response was softly spoken, but every word sounded powerfully in Hrathen's ears. "Perhaps," the Arelene priest whispered. "But there is another way. Lord Jaddeth will rise when every living soul is united - the Teos will be no obstacle if we destroy them. When the final Teo heaves his last sigh, when the Elantrians have been burned from the face of Sycla, then all men will follow Wyrn. Then Jaddeth will come." So the ultimate plan is to have all nations dominated under the Fjordell religion. There have been priests in Teo and Arelon attempting to convert for years. It was only when Wyrm committed to wiping everyone out that he sent in Hrathen as a distraction for Dilaf. If the nation will not bend, then it will be destroyed, every....single.....one. If the people of Scadrial cannot be controlled, then they will be destroyed, every....single.....one.

Oh it is totally worth asking him. Don't want you to think my thoughts on the matter is me saying not to. Just it was my own understanding of the events.
-
At this point it is more of a matter of opinion. I feel something focused on control, would eradicate an organism if it is revealed there is no ability to control said organism. Much like Wyrm decided to take over Kae and Teo by force instead of conversion due to their resistance. That plan got accelerated too, and Dilaf was full tilt on laying waste to all heretics. I understand where you are coming from and respect that, but I still disagree.

One thing that always bothered me with Assassin's Creed is, lets take a shadowy organization, that is all about stealth kills and moving unseen, and give them a specific uniform that is easily identifiable in any crowd. The first one made sense because of the monks you would blend in with, but after that the whole hood thing became ridiculous. Oh and let us also cut off the pinky finger to use the under arm blade. That could never backfire via our enemies checking everyone's hand before they let them in anywhere. A robe with a hood for a group of magic users that are an authority in a culture and want to be recognized on the other hand, does make a lot of sense.

Safety and Glory are abstract concepts, so they would be very difficult. The japanese when the atomic bomb was dropped needed upwards of 10 or more characters to describe it, including I believe dragon, fire, death, etc. Pictographs grew out of symbols that could be used to describe/illustrate the word they are using to relate. So how would you draw a glyph to give a sense of Safety, or Glory? Navani is a highly educated scholar, and is disappointed with Adolin's illiteracy. Her expression is general. Otherwise as stated earlier, he would be unable to find his way anywhere in the camps, nor be able to function in battle. At the very least he recognizes the glyph pairs of other highprinces. It would be the equivalency of an english speaker living in germany for instance with a native aunt, and the aunt saying "Couldn't you learn any german?" The nephew would still know enough to read signs, be able to order food, and know when someone asked them for a certain amount of money, but not be able to converse in german. I think the off hand comment of Navani's is being made too much of.

Question about Allomantic Steel (see picture)
Pathfinder replied to Bryce Carmony's topic in Mistborn
no worries, it is mentioned in the annotations for Wax and I think WoB for Kelsier. -
There is WoB that the structure of the Derethi being so strictly hierarchical is due to the Skaze influence. If that is not orderly and logical, I don't know what is.
-
My comment is not to ring in one way or the other but to respond to your point that The Skaze would not want to cleanse it. How many times in science fiction are there very orderly, and logical computers that view humans as too irrational or too much of a problem to fix, that they decide to just wipe us all out? The way faceless immortal spoke at the end was very calm, very dispassionate, and matter of fact. Humans are being too problematic to their well thought out plans, so the plans must be accelerated and humans eliminated. I didn't see any rage or hatred like we see with Eshonai.

Question about Allomantic Steel (see picture)
Pathfinder replied to Bryce Carmony's topic in Mistborn
That could be partly because the only two people we have seen do such a trick (Kelsier with the bar, and Wax with well.... everything), are steel savants. -
Words of Radiance page 568 "Yeah" Adolin said. He leaned toward her, as if conspiratorial. "Honestly, I don't pay a lot of attention. Renarin knows the difference between them - He'll drone on if you let him. Me, I order something that sounds important, but I'm really just choosing based on color." My understanding of that would be the equivalency of me going to a french restaurant, and picking something with a really long and complicated name and thinking that means it is good. Could result in me getting escargot but he doesn't seem overly finicky when it comes to wine. I would imagine the wine list would be very much like the list we have today where there is a list of whites, and then a list of reds, though in their case it would be more lists due to more colors. Considering most glyphs on store fronts take a form that is similar to what they are selling to help attract the illiterate, I would imagine in a culture based on reading and writing of any kind being unmanly, would color code the lists. So green wines would have a green glyph at the top, and perhaps the descriptions are green as well. Admittedly Adolin does not know complex glyphs such as: Word of Radiance page 221 "It says safety and glory," Navani said. If Adolin didn't know any glyphs at all then I can not imagine how he could travel through the camps, as well as recognize other highprince's glyph pairs. So I feel he is like he knows enough to get by, but does not use them often enough to be eloquent.
