  1. But that is the problem. If you assume inquisitors have copper to protect them from control emotional allomancy, then why was Vin, who was only spiked for seeking, able to do so? The alternatives are either one, they did not have copper, two they had copper but chose not to burn it, or three copper does not prevent control over a hemalurgic construct via emotional allomancy. Now it could be pointed out she used duralumin, but that was commented in the books to only allow her to reach the level of a soother rioter of old times. So then any misting in the old times would have been able to control the inquisitors as well as the kandra.
  2. I keep forgetting if it has been confirmed or not whether the sheath shardblades are put in for practice are aluminum or not. Because if they are aluminum then I think that answers the question of what would happen when a shardplate is struck by aluminum.
  3. Did marsh have allomantic copper? Because Vin controlled him briefly while Ruin was not paying attention. So if copper would prevent that kind of control while spiked so much, then I wonder why those inquisitors didn't employ it.
  4. I have just about never downvoted anyone on this site, but kinda had to in this case. Sanderson has done an amazing job separating the religious doctrine of his religion from his books and has fairly treated other religious concepts and ideas as best as he can. I do not think it is right or fair to make that kind of joke.
  5. If you are advancing Roshar to be equal to Scadrial to have a 1 to 1 war, then I agree, but if you are positing that the war happens further down the line, to allow Roshar to become modern during the fight, then that same time advancement would count for Scadrial too and they would be even more technologically advanced in that time which would still tip the balance in their favor.
  6. Also add to it that a medallion can be pulled off without killing the user. All that is holding it on is a strap to the arm. Spike would be rather more difficult to remove.
  7. So what I take from this is right now we just don't know if any of the abilities granted through the dor are end positive, end negative, or end neutral. Just guessing/theorizing?
  8. There is also a button third from the top left of the text box that looks like a little picture. You click it, and it opens a window stating "Special BB Code". click the drop down, select spoiler, and it will give you a text box to write the spoiler in. Always found this as a much easier way for the uninitiated to accomplish it.
  9. Yeah, but all of that is pure conjecture. None of that is confirmed or even hinted. Szeth could have picked up a weapon when he was 5, or a month before he got banished. The only slight indicator is that he was trained in the honorblades use, which could have been his entire life, or a really rigorous year. So we cannot truly comment on what Szeth's level of fighting experience is prior to his appearance in assassinating Galivar. We simply don't know yet.
  10. Just curious, how do you know this? I do not remember that being mentioned in the book or WoB. Is there more recent information that I have not heard yet?
  11. I dunno, on one hand i like the theory on the other hand I am not so sure. First, just because Ialai could bear children, doesn't mean they were doing the horizontal mambo that a child could result from it. Sadeas admitted to himself that Ialai was not physically attractive to him, and same him to her. Theirs was a mutual business/partnership where they respected each others strengths. True they are fond of each other, and would certainly seek to protect and avenge each other, but not necessarily intimate (other than knowing the spot Ialai likes scratched). Also the quote posted is not the full quote/scene. Sadeas had just watched one of his allies leaving with Dalinar. Everyone in his entourage was uncomfortable and nervous. Perhaps it could be Ialai beginning to worry or think that they were in fact wrong. That they are dinosaurs of an age that might very well make them extinct due to sticking their heads in the sand for so long. Again, I like the theory, and is ripe for plot development but I am not yet convinced.
  12. I thought it was hinted through the book that the Skybreakers are the order that have the canny ability to filter innocent from the guilty
  13. The windrunner would need obscene levels of stormlight just to exist in the vacuum, nonetheless travel in it to accomplish what you posit.
  14. The Zulu's had an empire built on militaristic culture, and held their own with their poorer weapons when compared to the Europeans, yet technology won in the end. You can do a lot with a little with experience and knowledge, but it can only get you so far depending on the resources you have.
  15. Who is to say there aren't? Maybe we just haven't seen them yet.
  16. Would be interesting to see if radiants with shardplate could mold it and adapt. So if they are charging a gunner position, weaken the back plates making the front flow and overlap, much like the kevlar is described. Or maybe the orders that can change molecular bonds could strengthen them in response.
  17. I agree, because otherwise if the Shard holder didn't have any wiggle room to accomplish its goals, then how would almost any of the Shards accomplish anything?
  18. Can I ask what part you felt was me being confrontational/salty? I re-read that, and could not see it. Only thing I could see is when I said about Batman saying screw you to the world, which regarding the comic book I am referencing, he did. Not diminishing how you feel, nor saying you are wrong to feel as you do, just want to understand how what I wrote came across that way towards you. I did not say Batman's change of heart was disjointed, I said the way they chose to portray it via: was disjointed. My comment about copying was how they are making and presenting the movies, not the comic book source material. Delaying a project does not mean necessarily thinking things through, nor mean the betterment for the project. The video games Watch Dogs, and Destiny are prime examples. Both games got delayed claiming they wanted to put more work into a quality product, and in both cases they actually ended up cutting a massive amount of content, and cut corners resulting in many ways a shoddy end result. I understand, I was just replying to the properties he mentioned in particular
  19. There is also to take in to account is the magic systems "fuel" source. WoB show that a misting/mistborn can burn any metal from any planet as long as it has the right allomantic composition. It just acts like a gateway to harmony. So there is nothing stopping Scadrialians from using their abilities on Roshar. However, have a Rosharan army do an extended battle on Scadrial and suddenly all the radiants run out of juice. Even on Roshar, the Radiants would be dependent on the high storms to fuel up and need to ration stormlight.
  20. Sorry, but I have to call issue with the comment that Marvel does not get called out on regarding changing characters. There was a huge rage all over the internet just for choosing to make Johnny Storm black. Now that in and of itself is ridiculous, but it was an issue for a lot of people for a long time. Then there was the more valid issue with the tone of the Fantastic Four movie, the portrayal of the characters and the treatment of Dr. Doom. Plenty of people complained about how Tobey Macguire portrayed spider-man while loving Alfred Molina’s Doc Ock. Plenty of people loved and hated Andrew Garfield’s Spider-man and hated Rhys Ifan’s Lizard. I have always said if they could have somehow had Tobey Macguire portray Peter Parker, Andrew Garfield portray Spider-man, Alfred Molina portray the Lizard, and Rhys Ifan Doc Ock, it would have been perfect. X-men too has gotten criticized for changes to the characters. People have complained about killing off Cyclops the way they did. People have complained about making Rogue young. People have complained about making Mystique a “good” guy in Days of Future Past. So by your own examples, Marvel’s properties are not exempt from criticism regarding changes, and a prime connection, the Fantastic Four movie utterly bombed for the same reason Batman v Superman is being so banned by the critics. It doesn’t do the characters justice. For Snyder to base his latest rendition Batman off a story where Batman has become jaded, said screw you to the world, until he feels he is dragged back in and forms a totalitarian regime of what he says goes, and then expect people to believe that that type of person could then want to join a team is disjointed. People have criticized Spider-man for going through so many reboots, so soon and the same stands for Batman. I feel it is DC trying to avoid being accused of copying Marvel, and forging their own path, but not actually taking the time to truly think it through.
  21. But that is direct action by the shard. By that logic, Leras should have preserved the letter of his agreement with Ati,and not betrayed him. He should not have caused a plot that would result in the death of Alendi and the deaths of countless people on the planet to accomplish in stopping Ruin. Just because the shard preserves, doesn't mean the people who worship it or does as it asks have to. edit: sorry, did not see full post on my phone earlier. Basically saying the same thing. Nvm!
  22. But eshonai never comments on having them herself or any other femalan. I would think if it was important in the way you posit, then why only mention it for the malan even from the races own perspective?
  23. But only the males have the beard and wear the gems. Though you could say they work in pairs so the femalan would benefit from it, but what happens if the malan of a pair dies?
  24. But doesn't Kaladin end up wearing their bones on his armor and shield? You would kind of need to see inside a body, if you intend to strip the flesh from the bone to then bleach it and wear it.
  25. I don't think there has to be a sexually charged scene in order to show a character's sexual preference. That is something that has annoyed me when I have read some books with female characters as the protagonist or a lgbt protagonist. Suddenly they become this oversexed character that drools over another character and only thinks about sex. We know Shallan has a thing for Adolin and visa versa without them getting down and dirty. We know Raoden and Sarene are an item without a sexually charged scene. And so on. I believe it comes back to as it was stated, is it a plot point? Is the culture the character lives in hostile to it, or accepting to it? The topic becomes an issue, if in the story it is an issue.
