  1. Well that would depend on how it is done, and what theory you prescribe to. My theory requires a strengthening of the faux bond (my own terminology) as Adolin did with Maya for Dalinar to then use connection and an infusion of investiture to heal the spren. If that is the case, then reviving the other blades would require individuals to treat their bonded shardblades in the same manner, thereby potentially earning some goodwill during the process. Though I do agree, I could see various spren revived reacting among the below three: 1. got along with their bondee, and upon revived, bonds the individual as a radiant 2. got along with their bondee, and don't hate humans anymore, but rather just not bond anyone for awhile 3. got along with their bondee, but still has issues with humans, and just chooses to never bond again I could see various spren going along any of those paths. Some would bond as radiants, some would just want some time to themselves, and some would swear off bonding entirely.
  2. The Azish already did this prior to the everstorm. If you were in a homosexual relationship, you would file paperwork, and be "termed" female. So add the capability to change the physicality and you are just one form away from full transition. As to the actual function, my theory is it is not a morphing while holding stormlight. You have to "heal back" to your ideal self. So my theory at least, is you would need to be injured, or undergo surgery, and when you took in stormlight, your body would heal back to what your ideal self would be. So gender reassignment surgery that upon taking in stormlight, would result in fully healed and functioning organs.
  3. Don't worry, at least according to this annotation, we will be getting plenty of Jasnah in the back five. I am still dancing off of that alone: "I’ve avoided talking too much about Jasnah as a general rule, since I plan her to be a major (perhaps the major) character of the back five books, and so it’s best to keep focus off her for now. There will be plenty of time for discussions about her later."
  4. Dalinar felt an "urging" from oathbringer as early as way of kings and oathbringer also recognizes and specifically hates dalinar less because of the actions he chose to take in his life. We dont know how dead spren act when around their bondie in the cognitive realm, and we dont know the effect the perpendicularity had on maya and adolin during thaylenah. But to be clear i am not saying you cannot believe adolin's bond is crucial to reviving maya. Just saying there has been signs with other shardblades.
  5. Renarin, Jasnah, and the Heralds are going to be fleshed out in the back five. Brandon has said Renarin and Jasnah are like pandora's box. Once you start digging into them, all this stuff is opened up, so he has to be very careful in how much he shows them. All from his own mouth. I can add the WoB later if you like.
  6. Honestly for myself that makes even less sense in light of the Brandon quote. So now the rebellion against jasnah freeing slaves is going to be a slow burn till the last book, at which point jasnah goes "yall suck, im out". Leaves the planet. And then 10 years later just decides to come back? That make absolutely no sense for what i understand the character jasnah to be. You are certainly entitled to interpret her however you wish, but i just really dont see that happening.
  7. I dunno, still seems a stretch to me. You argued that the backlash you feel is required is going to happen in this book. So there is going to be this rebellion to kick her off and then they are going to just stop and twiddle their thumbs for 10 years? That doesn't make sense to me.
  8. I am referring specifically to this quote: I really don't see how she could no longer be involved in Roshar and the quote from Brandon still be true. So either Jasnah leaves and Brandon is lying, or Jasnah sticks around, and what Brandon says is accurate. I lean towards Brandon. So I do not think what you suggest is likely. But to each their own.
  9. Given the recent annotations, I really don't see this happening. But to each their own.
  10. So i have seen people compare adolin's PoVs and screen time to renarin and jasnah before. That because currently he has more than them, that he is a main character. I think that is problematic because we have from the author himself that he has deliberately held back on renarin and jasnah because to even dig into them briefly would be opening a huge pandoras box. Renarin and jasnah are major characters in the back five. By brandon's own words jasnah may even be seen as THE main character of the back five. So i dont think it is entirely accurate or beneficial to try and measure importance in that way given that we know for a fact that renarin and jasnah are extremely important to the narrative. We just have not reached that point in time yet. TLDR: i dont think it is beneficial to compare screen time as a metric for character importance especially in regards to jasnah and renarin.
  11. No problemo. Here you go (side note I think there is a third but I am blanking at the moment. I will do a little more digging to see if it triggers anything): Steeldancer The Heralds, back before Honor died, were they directly powered by Honor? Brandon Sanderson Yes. You’ll find out more about that, but the Shardblades [pretty sure he means Honorblades here] were pieces of Honor’s soul that he gave them and direct access to his essence. Steeldancer Like Vin and Elend? Brandon Sanderson Yeah, a little like that. That’s why Honorblades don’t work like Shardblades do, like Radiants do. Steeldancer The second part of the question is, what would happen if they were directly powered by Honor and they were holding Nightblood? Brandon Sanderson RAFO Boskone 54 (Feb. 17, 2017) WindRunner88 (paraphrased) So far during The Stormlight Archive we've seen that the spren bond appears to have some distinct advantages (i.e. armor, more efficient Stormlight consumption, access to a variety of weapons) over what Tanavast via the Oathpact provided the Heralds. With the exception of Nale, and the fact that the Heralds had no need for Stormlight, can you please tell me one way in which a Herald had a distinct advantage over a level 5 Radiant of their corresponding order? Brandon Sanderson (paraphrased) Rebirth. *pause* The Heralds had access to raw levels of power that no Radiant could obtain. BookCon 2018 (June 1, 2018)
  12. Just building on lemiltock's post. We have two WoB. Originally heralds had access to levels of stormlight no radiant could hope to attain and that the honorblades gave them a direct conduit to Honor. However that has changed since Honor has been shattered. So at this point in time we dont fully know what honorblades are capable of while honor is dead. I understand most of what you wrote is a theory but we don't know why dalinar hasn't been able to augment the others. We know from brandon that it manifests differently from order to order. So it could just be they are expecting it to act one way, when it acts another. For instance i would hazard that they would assume it would empower kaladins gravitation powers, but i saw a theory on the board that posits it strenthens or increases the number of his squires. I could easily see them testing and re testing the gravitation only to not realize people across urithiru suddenly got windrunner powers briefly and didnt get a chance to discover them.
  13. Not necessarily. There is a reason for the quote "Greece has conquered her rude conqueror"
  14. Brandon Sanderson One of the Dustbringers is eventually a point-of-view character. Cemci Haven't been yet? Brandon Sanderson No, not yet, I don't think. But it depends if you count the Heralds as members of their order. One of the dustbringers is eventually a point of view character. Hasn't been yet? No, not yet. This was after Words of Radiance was released. Seems pretty open and shut to me, but like I said, I do want Navani to be a dustbringer, so frankly I would love to be wrong.
  15. So I had thought of this a while back, but there is unfortunately a WoB that may disprove this. Basically the WoB says as of Words of Radiance we have not gotten a PoV of a dustbringer to be. Near the end of Words of Radiance, we get Navani's PoV over thinking Dalinar and Adolin are dead. So if that is still valid, then unfortunately Navani cannot be a dustbringer. I still hope she will be, but that WoB does exist for full disclosure. Cemci Have we-- I think you mentioned in a previous signing that we'd already met one member of every Order of the Knights Radiant. Brandon Sanderson Yes, I think you have. Cemci My question is, have we met two Edgedancers? And is one of the Dustbringers a viewpoint character? Brandon Sanderson One of the Dustbringers is eventually a point-of-view character. Cemci Haven't been yet? Brandon Sanderson No, not yet, I don't think. But it depends if you count the Heralds as members of their order. Cemci I don't. Brandon Sanderson Oh, see I would, because they're kind of heads of their Order. If you don't count them you have not met some from every Order. Cemci Have we met someone from the Dustbringers? Brandon Sanderson Well-- Dustbringers are really complicated. Really complicated. So that's the weird one. Okay? So let's shelve that one. You'll see why it's really weird later on. Shadows of Self London UK signing (Oct. 19, 2015)
  16. My point was I think it is reductionist to equate a person purely and fully to a philosophical view just because she may espouse an aspect of it. There is a whole rainbow of forms of utilitarianism to choose from. That does not mean someone is necessarily a hard line, and will only follow fully through on it. Storms, don't even take my word on it, take Jasnah's: “I seek the action that does the most possible good for the most people, this is in keeping with my moral philosophy” She didn't say it was her moral philosophy. She says it keeps with it. As in she formed her own moral philosophy, and an aspect of it is in line with that statement. TLDR: People are far more nuanced than being defined whole by a philosophical thought. People thought Jasnah was purely Machevellian and viewed all her actions in that light, yet now she is suddenly Utilitarian. I wonder what philosophical thought people will be convinced she is purely next? Totally respect your opinion, and I wish you luck with it. Personally I am hyped to progressive Queen Jasnah in even more action. Breaking gender norms, freeing slaves, and fighting for equality. Works for me. Yeah, with all due respect, ain't going down that rabbit hole. Jasnah is a fully fleshed out character to me, and I wrote at length about that in my thread "Jasnah more than meets the eye". She doesn't work for you, I respect that. But she works for me. I would wish you luck with your theory, but to be completely honest I look forward to the books hopefully proving you wrong.
  17. I agree on all parts As to Wit's motivation for working for her, I have literally just this second come up with what I think (could be wrong because I have not gone through the latest posts extensively) is an original theory. Wit's is close to Jasnah to learn soulcasting. Here is the WoB that makes me think as much: Stormlightning You've talked about how Hoid really appreciates his new Lightweaving abilities, but what about the Soulcasting side of things? Brandon Sanderson So, you'll have to see. Stormlightning Is he excited about that, or does he already have all of that? Brandon Sanderson No, he doesn't have all of that. He knows more than a lot of people do, and knows to be more-- frightened of Soulcasting than others are. Frightened is perhaps the wrong term. Wary. FanX Spring 2019 (April 19, 2019)
  18. For how long after Jasnah's conversation with Shallan after the alley were people convinced Jasnah was Machiavellian and all her actions must be seen in that extreme lens? Now she is clearly Utilitarian and all her future actions must be seen in that extreme lens as well? Personally I look forward to seeing more of progressive Queen Jasnah. But to each their own.
  19. Just nice to be validated on Jasnah's Queenship being beneficial to her people, advocating social justice, and not being a tool of Dalinar. This is now the third thing that I have been harping on for years that has become reality in Rhythm of War. With a fourth I believe will be a very real possibility. spoilering for personal posterity
  20. Just dropping by to say there is a WoB that confirms that way back when, elsecallers were world hoppers. Will add it in a bit. On my phone now. Ruro272 (paraphrased) On a similar note, since Elsecallers can physically go to Shadesmar and have access to Transportation surge, can all Elsecallers worldhop? Brandon Sanderson (paraphrased) Yes, that is one of the Elsecaller powers. Ruro272 (paraphrased) In hindsight this seems like a really obvious question now *laugh*, but I think it's really interesting that Elsecallers can travel to other planets too--we didn't know that before. Brandon Sanderson (paraphrased) There are hints in the names on the map of Shadesmar. Minicon 2015 (April 2, 2015)
  21. Like I said, not starting this up again. Just for my personal reference.
  22. Rhythm of War Spoilers Not posting this to start this up again, but more a post for myself for reference.
  23. Renarin has bridge 4 to provide support, and Jasnah and Navani to help him figure out his spren. Last time we saw Renarin with Adolin, he healed Adolin's wrist, suggested that Shallan could draw Sureblood, and looked out for Adolin at the battle of Theylenah. Since truthwatchers are all about finding truth, I could easily see Renarin continuing to help Adolin on that journey.
  24. Well Renarin has been there for Adolin on numerous occasions and we just have not seen Renarin on screen recently (when they are in the same location. prior Adolin was on the mission with Shallan while Renarin was on the mission to Hearthstone). I would imagine Renarin has been there for Adolin even though we don't actively see it.
  25. So first and foremost, just want to stress that I was not saying you were incorrect or correct. You are totally entitled to your opinion. To hopefully clarify my own opinion. I don't see the point of the classifications to begin with. I don't see the point of measuring any characters against those classifications. I don't see why it should matter whether or not Adolin, Rock, or whoever is a "main" character or not. I just look at it as a character, in a book, with things happening. Ok, maybe this example will help. I already stated my theory regarding reviving Maya right? Without getting into other people's opinion's and risking misrepresenting them, it has been stated that whether or not Adolin is a "main character" would determine whether: 1. Adolin could revive Maya 2. How Adolin could revive Maya 3. Who revives Maya 4. When Maya is revived 5. If Maya is revived at all Now I have seen a whole host of theories in all sorts of directions regarding Maya. In not a one of them, have I seen it mentioned in the books that "so and so is a main character" so they have to do X. I have not seen anywhere in the books that "so and so has x number of PoVs, so they have to do X". What I have seen is Sja-anat. I have seen Dalinar use connection powers. I have seen Maya tell Adolin his name. I have seen Maya attack the fused. So that is what I am seeing, and that is what I am reading. Personally trying to get "meta" spoils the enjoyment for me regarding reading the book. So I choose not to think on who, if anyone, is or is not a main character or what have you. I just come up with a theory based on what I read and that is as deep as it goes. Having said that, again, if you choose to do so, that is totally your right, and I respect that. This is not meant to offer commentary on you whatsoever. People were sharing their opinions on Adolin. This is mine.
