Hmm...not a lot of meaningful activity for day one. And I don't even know the playstyles of half of these people. Note to self: should have spectated a game before playing again. Regardless, I don't think I'll vote quite yet. I need time for a read through of the rules, and I don't have that time yet.

I'm going to be running LG29, a rerun/sequel to LG21: To Reforge a God. The rules have been significantly revised, and I hope that the game is much better balanced at present. I'd like some feedback on the updated rules, if anyone has any thoughts on it.

Well, I don't think I can sit this one out. Count me in, I think.

I'll be at the lecture, but I'm leaving after that. -
I'm sorry for not replying sooner - I don't know how I missed this. As far as how I came up with ideas - that's a rather difficult question. Mostly, they just...came, if that makes sense? I mean, once I have the basic outline, there's a lot of editing and revision about details, and wrestling to try and make everything fit in right, but the original ideas don't have a discernable beginning for me. A perhaps more cynical answer is this - I've read a lot, and I do a lot of thinking about things I've read and about worlds that would be interesting. So a lot of that probably filters into my subconscious, ready to well up whenever I am trying to build something. In that sense, the best tip I can give you is this: read a lot. Everywhere. Of a whole bunch of different genres. And practice worldbuilding. My first worldbuilding attempts were the most derivative things you can think of. They were Tolkien with a little bit of Jordan thrown in, and almost nothing unique. Be willing to throw ideas out. If it doesn't work, it doesn't work, no matter how much you love it. See: dragons do not exist in Edassa. In the first incarnations of that world, it had elves, dwarves, dragons, orcs, and a whole host of other magical things. They didn't work. I loved them, but they didn't work. It took me 7 years to work up the courage to write them out, but I finally did, and the setting is much stronger for it. The last bit is this - learn a whole bunch, everywhere you can. The Chaod Leu were just a name on a map for a while - a country that I knew I wanted to have a vaguely Indian flair. And then someone started asking about them, and I'd just been reading up on vitiligo, and I had been thinking about the politics of race recently, and I'd been wanting to see if I could work a magic/belief system based on the traditional 4 elements into my setting somewhere. And that all coalesced together into the Chaod Leu. The best source for worldbuilding ideas is the real world. After all - it's the one we live in, and the only one that is - so far as we know - actually real. That's how my religions are so unique - I've studied a lot about religion; it's one of my degrees. And once you've built your first religion, your second isn't a huge deal - you've already got your brain thinking in those ways. The only way to make your made-up religions not derivative is practice. They will be derivative at first. It takes practice to figure out what's a good fit for the setting and what's just copy-paste and needs to be changed. And get feedback. Lots of feedback. From a lot of different people. This forum is a great place to look for that! Anyways - hope that helped, and sorry for not responding quickly.

The Thousand Realms - Master Worldbuilding Thread
Seonid replied to Seonid's topic in Creator's Corner
Here. The RP has been defunct for a long time now, but this is what we got through. I was quite happy with it. As a slightly more general announcement - I'm (kind of) back! I won't be posting often in other places until December or so (after my wife has the baby and things have calmed down), but I've done a great deal of new worldbuilding work in this setting, and I'd like to get some feedback on it. I don't have time to post any of it at this exact moment, so consider this post a gauge of interest. In a day or two, or over the weekend, I'll post the new worldbuilding work for the City of Mortals setting. In essence, the City of Mortals setting is a place where I explore how the abstract cosmological theory in the first couple posts actually looks like at the ground level - in a high-magic setting (unlike Edassa, which was intended to be almost like our own world, with magic as a rare exception, the City of Mortals has magic as - if not commonplace, at least very well-known). Also, it was made to be compatible with the Pathfinder RPG, so there's that. I'm actually running a City of Mortals campaign with my brothers right now. If there's interest, I might even do write-ups of our (hilarious) games.- 28 replies

Mid-Range Game 15: The Dula Revolution
Seonid replied to Mckeedee123's topic in Sanderson Elimination
Well, as an attempt to forestall the inevitable: Keep me alive, and I'll use my kill to target the village's best guess at Jeskeri. No strings, no frills, no subtext, and no lies (I'm not Aman, after all). If I'm alive at the end of the day, I'll take requests in the night cycle for the Derethi kill target. As a gesture of trust, I'll take credit for the Aman kill - I found the arguments in favor of his Cultishness more convincing than the arguments for anyone else. (He's wrong about Elb, by the way - she isn't Derethi. I tried to kill her N2, but due to poor Doc communication, I missed that Mail was going to protect her. I didn't get on towards the end of the cycle, after all.) If not, well...I'd say it's been a good game, but I haven't even been active enough to really play it.- 727 replies

Mid-Range Game 15: The Dula Revolution
Seonid replied to Mckeedee123's topic in Sanderson Elimination
Well, that could have been a fun run, but I haven't really had enough time to do this role justice. My apologies to Mailliw and eramit for my inactivity. The Derethi infiltration has come to an end.- 727 replies

Mid-Range Game 15: The Dula Revolution
Seonid replied to Mckeedee123's topic in Sanderson Elimination
Sorry for lack of activity - I'very been quite busy. From my brief overview, it looks like a clear cut case to lynch eramit. For the Senate inspection, I think Bard is a reasonable candidate, based on the amount of suspicion he's accrued. Edit: Interestingly enough, elenion, I was on to remedy the situation of not having posted.- 727 replies

I think that Meta's idea is a valuable one. In the spirit of spreading the pressure around, I'm going to vote to recall Aman. Why should you remain a senator?- 727 replies

Mid-Range Game 15: The Dula Revolution
Seonid replied to Mckeedee123's topic in Sanderson Elimination
Alright - I haven't had a lot of time to devote to reading through this thread (and the Senate doc - with Elb and Aman in there, I'm never going to keep up :P). But I promised to try and be useful today, so I'm going to follow through on that. I don't have strong feelings on the lynch, other than I think that there needs to be one. At the moment, I'm not going to vote - there wouldn't be any reasoning behind it if I did, and I agree with Aman that the most important part of the vote is the reasoning. If I get enough time to go through the thread again and find any interesting patterns, that will certainly change. Right now, though, I had a thought about the Senate scan. It might be useful to scan the "second-place" player for the lynch. That is - if more than one player are up for the lynch, we lynch one of them and scan the other. Of course, the Senators will do what they want to do - but if we set that as a pattern, we can watch and see which of the senators (if any) don't want the second place person scanned. I'm certainly not advocating for this, as if it's the obvious best way to use the senate scan, but it was an idea I had, and I wanted to see what others thought of it. Now to try and get caught up on the Senate doc again.- 727 replies

If you need another player, I'll sign up as Sheon Idris, former king of Arelon (in one of his many incarnations). Don't expect copious amounts of activity, though- 727 replies

Take it from me - there's a lot of information on the site, but it's not TVTropes. Eventually you run out of stuff for your current binging session. Then, a month later, you need to look something up again, and you don't come out for two days, but you do eventually come out.
-
This happens to be one of my absolute favorite sites. It probably has nothing to do with the fact that I did physics in college (who are we kidding here - it totally does).
-
I'll grab the spec doc on this one too
-
Now that could be fun. My sister is an employee there, so at present, I get the family discount. I wouldn't sign up for paying the group rate because of that (I don't have that much money), so you'd have to find 25 other people, but I'd love to show up on a day you set it up.
-
Alright - I have almost no time at present, but I need to respond to Elbereth's questions. My apologies for not speaking up earlier - I've been in and out of wifi all day, and occupied with family. I've tried to stay caught up when I could though. I am fairly convinced that Elbereth is a villager. I have several reasons to support that belief, but the largest is the important role she played in Gunshy's lynch. She was instrumental in swinging the lynch away from Elodin and to a Darkfriend. That's rather a good reason, I feel. Therefore I think Aman is wrong, but I feel that he's village wrong. Purely gut on Aman, except that he's actually articulated suspicions and defended them. Like El, I feel that this indicates village. On meta, I have it on good authority that a night action targeted on him failed N1. A thief taker in my chain of communication found that he performed no actions that night. This could indicate that he was detained. If so, it makes meta a candidate for being either the perpetrator or the target of the Darkfriend kill. However, it's not the only explanation. He could have had the mask of mirrors used on him, or he could have been a Dreamwalker (I don't know how that shows up to a thief taker). On such flimsy evidence, and with my limited time, I'm not going to vote yet. I don't know if I should vote at all today - a vote without reason can be worse than no vote at all.
-
I am going to be busy with family for much of the weekend, and will return to normal activity on Tuesday. I will attempt to at least keep up with the thread, and to perhaps post my thoughts, if I find the time, but I will likely be quite busy for much of the time. My apologies in advance.
-
I've appreciated Lopen's contributions as Mayor, but I think that moving the role around is wise. Of all of the choices, I think I trust Elbereth most. She's consistently given off a village read to me - not that I know her Eliminator tells at all, and my gut this game has been shaky at best. But I think it's a worthwhile place to start.
-
Ah - I totally meant one thing and wrote another there, actually. What I meant to say was this: If anyone detained someone last night, it might be a good start. Now, whether or not revealing in thread is a good idea is up to the Whitecloak in question, although I suppose we could all debate it together. On the one hand, if we do find Fain, we remove a powerful village threat, and that could be worth having a publicly known village power role. On the other, publicly claiming in thread is generally not a good idea. Personally, I think it's too risky for the Whitecloak to reveal in-thread. But if they don't say anything today in thread, then tonight for certain, they should contact somebody in a PM and start coordinating the search for Fain there.
-
I knew that someone was detained. What I missed was that there hadn't been corruption.
-
Oh! I didn't notice that. No corruption could mean a couple of things. Fain could have been roleblocked by a channeler using Spirit. Or they could have targeted the player who was detained. Or they could have targeted a player protected by Mask of Mirrors. Or Padan Fain could be the player who was detained. Or Fain could have been inactive. Or Fain could have decided not to use the corruption because they hoped we would get thrown on the wrong track and go after the person who was detained. A number of options, and no easy way to choose between them, unfortunately. If anyone was detained last night, though, it might be a good start to our search for Fain. Also about my bedtime. I might be around a little longer, but don't expect more discussion until the morning. If then. I've tended to be more optimistic about my ability to be active in thread during work than reality should indicate.
