  1. Yeah, NJ is basically made up of two parts that wish they didn't have to be connected - North Jersey and South Jersey. The North tends to associate with New York City whereas the South tends to associate with Philadelphia. This is why I'll mention cheesesteaks now, because local people around our area (South Jersey) are very particular about those. I, on the other hand, will not eat a crab cake made in NJ because I'm a Maryland girl. By the way, you weren't terribly far north of where my in-laws used to live! They lived in Ocean City. Edit to add: I also find it funny that we also pick on southern folks (Virginia and below) for their comments about the cold here. Just goes to show it's just a matter of comparison!
  2. Maxal, you are totally cracking me up! Upvotes for you! Heir of the Void, this entire thread idea is also cracking me up. It's only fitting that I started (trying) to play Fallout 3 for the first time last week. My 100 Points: Bunker Improvements: More Space: Can I get an extra 5 feet on each side for 2 points?? TV: 2 points Books: 2 points Meat Vat: 7 points Bedroom: 7 points Furniture: 5 points Hydroponic Garden: 6 points Kitchen: 4 points Holographic shooting range: 8 points Gym: 8 points Survival supplies: Glock: 7 points/weapon Additional ammo: 3 points Body Armor: 5 points Sword: 1 point Survival Kit: 3 points Medkit: 5 points Additional Goods and services: Youth: 10 points Gunslinger: 7 points I'm okay with being a vanilla human and a loner at that.
  3. I know my husband has a place here in NJ where he loves the chowder, but it's not talked about as a big deal around here. Maybe we just live in the wrong area of NJ? It's more about Philly foods in our zone. I've got to set the record straight about crab cakes, though: MARYLAND is the place for those, and the surrounding states that are close enough to know better. I'm from Maryland originally, if you couldn't tell from that response!
  4. Is that a NJ thing? If so, I hadn't heard... I always thought it was a New England thing.
  5. I hope you'll get to see season 4 at some point in time. Weird Al as Cheese Sandwich! Oh, the hilarity!
  6. That would be a very safe bet!
  7. Definitely doesn't fit criteron #2. Sorry. I second the following: Lord of the Rings, David Edding's The Belgariad & The Mallorean series, Anthony Ryan's Blood Song & Tower Lord, Patricia A. McKillip (haven't read that series, but I've read other books), and The Dresden Files if you don't mind fast-forwarding through the ~two gratuitous scenes. I'm not commenting on the others because I haven't read them myself.
  8. My husband would be so jealous. He's been trying to get out of bronze for awhile. (I think he's like a point away as of the other night.) Anyhow, I'm a sad gamer.... Only recently did I start playing Fallout 3 at the behest of said husband, who had to coach me through combat in the very beginning after I had a total hyperventilating/crying fit the first time a dude tried to attack me. Yeah, I admit it. It's sad. After that, though, things were just peachy! When I really want to relax, though, I play Hexcells or one of its two follow-ups. Currently I'm in the second one. Very soothing if you're a puzzle person. If you hate puzzles, stay away from this game! (Edit to fix typo.)
  9. I honestly don't know if we'll ever watch it anyway (still avoided the spoilers, though). Ponies are WAY cuter than little animated girls made to look like their pony counterpart!
  10. When you're watching the League of Legends tournament, hear Kassidan and automatically think Kaladin. " " " " " " " " Orianna and automatically think Aviendha. (That's more of a stretch, but it still happened.) Also, how you know you're a Garfield fan: You hear the commentator say "the Zanya's" and think he's saying lasagnas.
  11. Oh man...a note of warning: I liked Sun of All Men a whole lot (listened to the audiobook), and went onto the second book. It was good and then something at the end just struck me wrong, and now I have absolutely no desire to read beyond book 2. Don't let me stop you, though! I think my brother read and liked them all.
  12. I'm so sorry you're dealing with this on top of the CHs. I had a good friend in high school that had debilitating attacks. They're so tough. Remember, we're here for you!
  13. Completely forgot to come back here and report. The Monogram Murders was worth the read, though to the reader who is overly familiar with Agatha Christie, if you go in knowing it's written by someone else, you won't be able to help but notice a difference. That said, I can't quite put my finger on what made it feel different. It just did. It did manage to get me in the mood to read some actual Christie, which is a good thing. I like to read her novels in between bigger reading projects as I can breeze right through them and they're great relaxing reads. If Ms. Hannah comes out with any other Poirot or other Christie-related books, I will likely pick them up.
  14. If you're acceptant of that, those stand-alone episodes are pretty amazing! It's one of my all-time favorites.
  15. i would definitely pick up a decal and possibly something else (be it a t-shirt or a water bottle). I'm not into hoodies myself, but I still laughed at "Hoidies."
  16. I've seen it cropping up more and more around here. The only ponty merch we have at this point are some Ty Beanie Babies of the Mane 6, which I picked up at various locations - a pharmacy, a card store, and a craft store. I did find a Christmas ornament later online, but that's going to be a stocking stuffer. MOVIE?!?! We've seen the brony documentary, but is there an actual MLP movie?!
  17. I would definitely want a sticker, if not something else, too. I'm a bumper sticker/decal addict. The allomantic symbol on my car is still a little too obscure - my brother, who's read the Mistborn books, SA and WoT, didn't recognize it until I reminded him. Not that people know what the 17th Shard is, but they could look that up in a google search and then they'd know!
  18. USA - NJ now but Maryland growing up. Definitely English. Wish I was better with languages in general, but I can't even remember English words I want to use half the time. XD My reading vocabulary is way higher than my speaking one.
  19. I've noticed it's been a little quieter, too, since getting back from vacation on the 15th. I think it's probably because school's started up, whether that means parents on the site are busy dealing with kids going back or users are high school or college aged themselves. Fortunately, it was just the battery, which has been replaced already. We just need to pick it up. I'll take an easy car fix any day!
  20. I totally had a lucid dream earlier in the week. I distinctly recall lying there planning out the plot and making it happen, though now I can't remember the details. I also had a dream a night or two later that was in full color. I know at some point in time it was widely believed people dreamed only in black and white. I can't speak for anyone else, but I definitely have color dreams, this just being the most recent and best remembered.
  21. I guess I'm technically allowed to start since there have been two posts. I'm going by where I'd like to live most, at least for now. Roshar 18 Scadrial 21
  22. I always lose real bookmarks, too! These days, I'll use a receipt, a random photo found nearby, a post-it note, a card from a deck of cards, whatever comes easiest to hand. Every now and then I'll try a real bookmark again only to eventually lose it...
  23. Nalthis 3 NO! I can't do it!! (But the next two posters can.) Scadrial 14
  24. Oh, good! I remember getting to book 3 (I think) of the Enchanted Forest series and being blown away for the twist. No cookie cutter happy ending there!
  25. Nalthis 3 Scadrial 15 Yolen 3 I know it's probably pointless to try, but at least it evened the field between Nalthis and Yolen.
