I see your point--at first glance, the resurrection of Jasnah Kholin seems like a tired old cliche. An author sets up certain expectations whenever he sits down and writes, and when these expectations are unmet, readers can be dissatisfied. In this case, readers expected for Jasnah to remain dead after her death scene, and thus felt as if they had been cheated out of a perfectly tragedy. Mistborn Trilogy spoilers: Compare this to the "death" of Jasnah. Her character arc was not complete when she took an arrow to the knee spear to the heart in the Wind's Pleasure's cabin. She was still struggling with the mysteries she was unraveling, still getting over Gavilar's death in her own way, and as readers we were still faced with a hundred mysteries about her character, such as why she hates men so much. Her death at such an early point would leave too much unexplored, too little explained. And Brandon Sanderson doesn't leave such glaring imperfections in his work. For this reason, I never truly believed Jasnah was dead. She still had too much of a story to tell, and Brandon Sanderson loves telling stories. Her departure allowed Shallan to grow as a person while still keeping Jasnah around for her own development. I am ultimately very pleased with the way the two characters and their stories are being handled thus far.

I too am aMraized at the number of puns that have been (Un)made on this thread. Having trouble sleeping? Your sleep Patterns may be improperly Attuned. Have you tried going to bed early? Maybe around 6 or at Dusk?

It is most hilarious, Lady Gyorn. Let us now place friendly wagers on how long it takes for this post to become outdated.

What better way to honor someone then to name a Herald after him? EDIT: Accidental double-quote.

You're right. Straying from our chosen pun style was a Shin.

My second theory, though I am not fully confident in its veracity. If your're familiar with TV Tropes, think of it as a "Wild Mass Guess". So, I am currently re-reading WoK again, trying to observe details I may have missed the first dozen times. It occured to me that an artist named Dandos the Oilsworn has been mentioned in both Stormlight installments so far. According to Kabsal, he was one of the great masters of pencil-art, but lived around three hundred years prior to WoK. Now, call me paranoid, but I've come to distrust any historical character frequently mentioned in a Brandon Sanderson novel. And so I have come to the conclusion that Dandos was one of the Ten Heralds, who apparently decided to take up an artistic hobby since the last Desolation. What evidence do I have to support this? Well, his full name is given as "Dandos Heraldin". So if any of the Heralds was known for his habit of taking up unimaginative pseudonyms, that's him. Discuss my tenuous grasp of logic below. I just wanted to be able to say "I told you so" in the event that this insanity becomes canon.

I've been assuming that the in-universe 17th Shard came up with the name. Or perhaps the natives of Yolen from before the Shattering of Adonalsium named the planets.

"And behold, it came to pass that the king of kobolds spoke of the Stick in a post of a far-away land. And it came to pass that he was persecuted, given a vote downwards by one of the Enemies of the Stick." "But behold, the Churchmen of the Stick saw this, and they were displeased. And they came to the aide of the persecuted, giving seven votes upward to the king of kobolds. The Faith of the Stick was thus carried into the lands of the unbelievers." "And praises were sung throughout the lands held by the 17th Shard. The Psalm of Stickiness was uttered by all." I. AM. A. STICK.

One of the first fantasy novels I ever read was Magician: Apprentice by Raymond E. Feist. The Riftwar Saga captured my imagination in a truly epic way. After that I think I read Tailchaser's Song by Tad Williams, and from there my life was predominantly composed of ravenous searching for new books.

Nalan's Motivation for Using Szeth (Spoilers)
Kobold King replied to Confused's topic in Stormlight Archive
It's interesting that he uses the exact same terminology. Here are a few possible conclusions of that thought:1. The Ars Arcanum author trained Szeth. 2. The Ars Arcanum author will interview Szeth and use his terminology. 3. The Ars Arcanum author is Szeth.- 23 replies

how many real world people are cosmere-aware?
Kobold King replied to king of nowhere's topic in General Brandon Discussion
Interesting thoughts. I think that someday, the Meta Arc of Adonalsium, Hoid and the Shards will be completely highlighted in the books themselves, revealing the Meta Arc to all readers of Sanderson. The Meta Arc will become the Primary Arc. OK, that sounded a little more prophetic-religious than I intended. -
When did Dalinar's wife die? (Spoilerish)
Kobold King replied to Chlehrma's topic in Stormlight Archive
I doubt that Shallan is related to the Kholins. Such a twist seems unlikely for Brandon Sanderson, though he may surprise me. WoR spoilers: -
Welcome to the Cosmere. You're in for a joyous experience.

Possible early hint regarding Realmatics
Kobold King replied to trendkill's topic in Cosmere Discussion
I love this idea. I always thought that pre-Ascension Scadrial had a lot of pertinent knowledge that was lost over time.I seem to remember a WoB that stated that they had just invented the steam engine when the Deepness came. Though just FYI, trees do think. They each think to themselves "I am a stick" all day and night. EDIT: Wait, why the downvote? This wasn't a nonsensical reply, I just threw in a little reference while I was posting. -
Zombie Survival Guide: Investiture Edition
Kobold King replied to Kobold King's topic in General Brandon Discussion
Ooh, I don't know. It would probably depend on the type of zombies we're dealing with... (see below) The way I see zombies, I doubt there would be enough surviving emotion to Soothe or Riot. I like the idea of it, though. I recently finished re-reading World War Z for probably the billionth time, so I had shambling, infected zombies in mind when I started the thread. Very little surviving intelligence, can't be killed without a headshot. I think most suggestions thus far on the thread would work for any "flavor" of zombies, though. I doubt that zombies have a very strong Cognitive presence, so there's no reason it couldn't work! On that note, are there zombiespren that cluster around infected wounds? Could be a colorful way of determining whether someone is a carrier of the virus, if there is one. -
I live on a farm, so I'd probably be seeing a lot of dungspren. Also, every time I get an upvote or make a lame pun, I attract gloryspren.

I think you're on to something. I was waiting for them to be used over the course of the whole book. The only other appearance of theirs was when Moash was given a bottle.

We don't know for sure that he wasn't present. We may see his presence revealed in a future book, just as we didn't know Nale or Liss were present before WoR. Speaking of Nale: To Judge

Crackpot Theories Possible Mistborn Trilogy 2-3 Plots
Kobold King replied to Moash's topic in Mistborn
I love the idea of a WWII-esque Scadrial trilogy. I am also hard at work trying to find a way to create a Metallic Arts-powered atom bomb. Can't seem to think of anything though... Invade other worlds? Interesting thought, although I don't think the forces of Scadrial could overwhelm any other Shardworld we've seen so far with the possible exception of Nalthis. Sel has Elantrians and Roshar has Shardbearers. -
Yelig-nar is affecting Szeth (somewhat spoilery)
Kobold King replied to Grayv's topic in Stormlight Archive
Brilliant! I like this a lot. I wouldn't be at all surprised if this proved to be the case. -
That pun was awful. You should have to pay a Tol-kien for puns that bad. (Yes, I did just say that. I guess you could say I have no Shamewise.)

Steelheart - Calamity seems much like a 'shard' to me
Kobold King replied to Mikanium's topic in The Reckoners
When I first read Steelheart, I thought that Calamity was a Shard. I was actually poring over the text trying to find his/her Shardpool before I did additional research and found out Reckoners wasn't in the Cosmere. I suppose the fact that Hoid wasn't in it should have tipped me off though. -
Zombie Survival Guide: Investiture Edition
Kobold King replied to Kobold King's topic in General Brandon Discussion
Epic powers would certainly help keep you alive (unless your weakness is "zombie bites" ). You could also rule any other survivor groups with an iron fist. While we're thinking outside the Cosmere, I just want to draw attention to The Rithmatist. Lines of Forbidance would work wonders towards compound fortification. Would storing Connection keep zombies at bay? My knee-jerk reaction is to say that it wouldn't, but the newspaper clippings in AoL indicate you can sway Koloss in such a manner. So who knows? You can test it out for us. I didn't even think of that. But if you don't mind, I think I'll wait and see what happens to you before I get in line for a zombie bite... -
Surging through... boy, do we have a thread for you. Welcome to the Shard. I haven't been here long myself but already I'm in love with this site.
