  1. When you feel the need to swear an Ideal before starting a task. (WoR hint): Rust and Ruin, are you serious? I think somebody may have beaten me to the Ideals.
  2. When you wonder if the Doctor is Hoid after the third Mistborn trilogy
  3. I do find it suspicious that in the prelude, Kalak and Ishar mention an "enemy" but do not mention Odium by name. It almost makes me think Mr. Sanderson is hiding something...
  4. Oh, undoubtedly I am. But it's a fun thing to think about. Ever since WoR I've been on high-alert, watching for potential references like an Alethi scout watches for chasmfiends. 99% of the theories I've come up with recently will probably never see the light of day. I haven't even posted my theory about Paliah working as a librarian in the Conclave library (though I might)
  5. The board: different property colors represented by Shardworlds. You can "Invest" in any of the Shardworld locations, or the magic systems (which function like the train stations). The center of the board is a map of Shadesmar. The money: little plastic spheres. The game comes with a little transparent pot and a light that makes them look infused. The cards: various Chance cards that have effects like "Splintered" or "ODIUM REIGNS". The pieces: metal tokens in the following shapes. A sword, a cloak, a spike, a stamp, and a stick. Er, back on topic: You know you're a Sanderfan not only when use the word "Sanderfan", but when you derail a thread talking about how you know you're a Sanderfan because you're making plans for a Sanderson-inspired version of Monopoly. Kolo?
  6. I wasn't going to say anything about the thread derailment (sometimes a thread derailment is so awesome, getting back on-topic feels like destroying a work of art.) But I'm glad we're back on schedule... With a Pulser and enough cadmium, you could probably just wait for the zombies to rot away and for the rest of civilization to rebuild itself. Here's an idea: could an Aluminum Compounder, able to generate a near-infinite supply of Spiritual Identity, resist the effects of a zombie bite?
  7. I trust you are not saying that Axies is more awesome than Lift? By our current definitions, this is impossible.
  8. "Go to Braize. Do not pass go. Do not collect two hundred clearmarks." Why oh why isn't there a Cosmere themed Monopoly set?
  9. When you read the previous post as "disappointed by being stick" and start typing up an angry response.
  10. I am currently re-reading The Way of Kings, allowing myself to fall back into the story while simultaneously allowing my demented mind to make tenuous connections to everything else in the Cosmere. One small, tiny little detail caught the eye of the more illogical part of my self. This detail can be found in a Shallan chapter, specifically, when she finds a book of fairy tales about Voidbringers. The first story is apparently about this: There is a very strong likelihood that this is a fable. Only this and nothing more. But there are two parts of me that love this passage--the part that makes tenuous connections and the part that loves the Cosmere. For to me, this passage almost sounds like a reference to Awakening. The boy whittles a piece of wood into human shape, and then sends it over a lake to distract the Voidbringers. Could it be an eyewitness-account of Awakening, distorted by thousands of years worth of retelling? As others have astutely pointed out, the curse "Kelek's breath" is quite prominent on Roshar. Were there men with great stores of Breaths, capable of Awakening, during the Desolations? As a side-note, the title of the fairytale book is Shadows Remembered, which would be a great title for a Stormlight installment if Brandon Sanderson sticks to the Archive theme.
  11. When someone says something odd and you worry they're giving a Death Rattle. Or when you're certain that playing Monopoly makes you feel the Thrill.
  12. That is both true and awesome-sounding.
  13. There are also Asiatic dragons, which were slimmer, controlled the weather, and often controlled vast stores of knowledge. The Rainbow Serpent is sometimes classified as a dragon--the mere fact that there is a debate on that one confirms that there is a variability to dragons! The Rainbow Serpent was a creator deity. Wyverns were two-legged and weren't always associated with breathing fire. The Tarasque was wingless and more like a savage turtle than anything else. There are dragon myths across the world, and each myth adds more potential for a unique type! The reason dragons get a bad rep nowadays is that modern writers have been uncreative with them. The creators of D&D, for instance, were responsible for the "dragon Skittles" you talked about. J. K. Rowling, for all that I admire her work, didn't really expand the world of dragons with her novels, and Christopher Paolini did very little to shed new light on dragons in Eragon. I guarantee you that Brandon Sanderson's would not be as creatively stagnant as most modern depictions. This thing, you will see.
  14. I was actually mildly disappointed when I thought the Cosmere was dragonless. Brandon Sanderson is such an incredible writer and worldbuilder, I can't imagine what he'd do with such a rich and flexible concept as a "dragon".
  15. I hereby nominate the Lopen for receiving Jezrien's Honorblade.
  16. Szeth isn't a villain. Like EMTrevor said, he's more of an anti-hero if anything. Personally, I'd love it if the next cover followed a different template than this one. Instead of major characters in an action pose on the Shattered Plains, why not show Shallan studying in Urithiru? Or show Jasnah wearing her bandolier hiking through a forest. Or my dream cover, however unlikely it is to happen: a determined Szeth walking through a field in Shinovar, a smoking black sword sheathed at his hip. EDIT: I don't know how I missed this in my brief readthrough of the thread: That's my new dream cover. Though I still want Nightblood on it.
  17. It was, essentially, a trip to the spa. No pressure on ol' Leras. Leras can just sit back in an easy chair and watch his plans come to fruition. He probably had a few rounds of drinks with Hoid while laughing maniacally.
  18. Wait, where do we have WoB about the importance of the colors? A quote on the subject could definitively confirm a connection between Surgebinding and Awakening. Or, you know, it could make for a neat post anyway.
  19. Who wouldn't? Storms, if I could write well I'd do it myself. We should start a "Someone Write Us a Cosmere Zombie Story" petition.
  20. Yeah Only Joe... you were answered by Brandon Sanderson's personal assistant, and only three minutes after your post. That is, without the hint of sarcasm, awesome. If Brandon Sanderson's assistant replied to me I don't think I could stop talking about it for months.
  21. I actually don't really associate Cultivation with femininity. I live in farming country so there are a lot of wrinkled and bearded men planting crops around me.
  22. This might Squick some people out, but...Maybe Cultivation was a man, and the Cognitive expectation people harbored was enough to slowly change "him" into the female Cultivation we know today? Plausible? Not particularly. Radical outside-the-box thinking? Yes.
  23. I was taking my weekly look at Mr. Sanderson's website, and he mentions a "live writing session" that will be streamed on Friday night. I've searched long and hard (read: two minutes) and I've been unable to find any instances of this phenomenon. Does anyone know where he hosts these sessions, and what time I should log on to catch it? Better yet (because of hectic schedules), does anyone know whether any of the writing sessions have been recorded where I can watch them at will?
  24. ...Let's just say knowledge of Brandon Sanderson is a boon and a curse.
