That is actually a very interesting belief. Not a belief that I share, but definitely an intriguing way of looking at the universe. For clarity, does Unitarian Universalism hold that all these gods are the same entity--implying that Jesus Christ and the Aztec god of human sacrifice were one and the same, for instance--or does it maintain something else entirely? I too find examining different religious points of view to be quite an enlightening experience.

It's possible. At risk of stereotyping, a lot of atheist sci-fi writers either emphasize the insignificance of humanity as Lovecraft and Adams did, or else over exalt the importance of sentience in the universe as Sagan and Arthur C. Clarke did. (I consider myself a "Christian cosmicist"--I believe that on our own merit the human race isn't terribly important, but we have a loving God that cares about us and that love gives us meaning. Much as a painting is just a bunch of chemicals on a canvas until it's observed and cherished by an art lover.) In any case though, I need to get around to reading The Hitchhiker's Guide books. Have you ever read Shada? It's a novelization of an unproduced episode of Doctor Who Adams wrote in the Fourth Doctor's era, and it's awesome.

His style of writing isn't for everybody. He was a cosmicist, a point of view best described as the belief in the utter, complete insignificance of humanity. The basic conceit of his works is that the human race is but a single grimy speck of the cosmos, and that next to the average being of the universe we are less than bacteria. His writing evokes the kind of horror you'd expect from that kind of horror; no jumpscares or gore, but lot's of focus on fear of the unknown and powers greater than man. It's excellent, but like I said, it's not for everybody.

There is definitely a very Lovecraftian vibe in that story. Do you read a lot of Lovecraft?

I haven't read Les Mis, but I did read The House on the Borderlands by William Hope Hodgson. You've probably never heard of it.

Would he wear any kind of button or insignia related to the Church of the Savior?

This pleases me. By the way, what exactly does the Financier look like? I can't remember an official description.

Which is why it is imperative that Voidgaze make him a plate of tacos, so he'll feel compelled to eat them and face his fear! It's foolproof!

Well I don't want to give too many spoilers, but... For a while now I've been planning on having Sam get mysteriously pregnant and give birth to the Spawn of Typhon, who upon birth will emit the Piercing Wail that will end all life in Oregon. But don't tell anyone. It's a secret.

It was a pretty awesome fight to write. Hopefully an awesome one to read. (Though you're right. Florist probably wouldn't have fared well in it. Hopefully he'll get some cool scenes of his own ere long.) Also, guys! Brandon Sanderson just semi-officially commented on Big Al's powerset! Mailliw: So, a power to, say, conjure Big Macs out of their pocket wouldn't be too crazy? Brandon: No. That's actually well within reason. And actually quite powerful if you don't put a limit on concurrent mass created or speed of creation. Translation: ALL HAIL BIG AL!

What really interests me is thinking about what non-American Epics might be like. Considering Firefight shows us at least two major Epics that seem to practice a twisted version of Christianity, are there any Muslim Epics ruling in Africa or the Middle East? Hindu Epics claiming to be the final avatar of Vishnu? Epics from areas that predominantly practice shamanistic religions, believing that their powers are gifts from nature spirits? How many Epics would continue conflicts from pre-Calamity days? Might a militant Palestinian Epic be inclined to teleport into Israel and start slaughtering Israelis? Would some ongoing wars in the Middle East and other turbulent areas halt immediately, or would they drag on as soldiers from both sides become Epics and seek to violently put an end to the fighting? And of course, my personal favorite question to ponder: are there any animals that can gain powers? Gorillas have been shown to not only be capable of experiencing traumas and fears, but also of remembering them for years afterward. Is it not possible that Calamity's fear-seeking sense might pick up on the trauma of a gorilla and drive him to grant the poor ape powers and the corruption that goes along with them? ... OK, probably not. I just like the mental image of a superpowered gorilla flying out of the jungle and dispensing simian justice on bushmeat hunters.

Double post because of the important realization I just had. If a flying Epic like Edgerunner or Deathwish were to pick up Glamour and fly with him, Glamour could use his powers and headset to: Make a pixelated rainbow trail behind them; Play the music in this video. I'll leave the implications of Glamour being the Epic version of the Nyan Cat to your imaginative minds.

"You leave gjustice99 out of this!" Sorry not sorry.

In a lot of ways there's a lot more justice inherent in What Happened in The Dalles than in Portland.

Though since Deathwish ended the fight merely handcuffed to a lamppost and Impact may have permanently lost her sense of hearing from a grenade blast, it seems clear that Impact wasn't exactly the victor.

That's generally how it works out. A character's first post is usually meant to simply introduce the character, her powers, and her personality, with other interactions dealt with later on. (Oh, that's just a side effect of posting on the Question thread. You'll get used to it. )

Mailliw asked how many Epics have powers that are unique to them, like Firefight or Mitosis. Brandon answered: ...indicating that most Epics share powers with one another. Mailliw also asked if any had unique but useless powers, and Brandon answered: Hope that clears it all up. And Haelbarde, I don't think I've said this yet but Miss Isle is awesome.

That sounds like one of the greatest finales ever on television, but just for the record Backtrack isn't good for anything but comic relief for the villain's scenes. (Also, is the Sam that gets drowned in sugary juice the one from Firefight or the one from the Reckoners RPG? ) Forty minutes of the most diabolical Canadian ever featured on television. "And you will be powerless to escape these bounds even as my maple syrup fills the chamber and drowns you. Feeling scared now, eh?" Did I forget to mention he sounds just like one of the moose from Brother Bear?

It's right here! You make an account, ask a simple question, and he might give you an answer. It's still ongoing, with the last question answered about an hour ago. Even if, like me, you find Reddit as a whole to be a cesspool of filth and the worst kind of randomness, it's well worth the minute or so it takes to make an account to participate in this awesomeness. And thanks for the Avatar review. I'm quite intrigued by this show now.

Arsenal is in charge of city security. And it's not like he'd ever go mad with power or anything. Well he just answered your question about "unique and useless" powers. Apparently it "Happens fairly often."
