What are you playing right now?
Bort replied to Link Von Kelsier Harvey's topic in Entertainment Discussion
Just finishing up a game of Fallout 3. I'm level 30, have most of my skills maxed out, and have only a few more missions of Broken Steel (DLC pack) to do until I've completed the game entirely. After that, Evil Genius. -
If you like Kas, add me as a friend on Steam, and I'll check out which UGC campaigns I downloaded too. Some of them were pretty good - easily better than Dead Man's Switch.

Dalinar, Sadeas's murder and public opinion
Bort replied to kari-no-sugata's topic in Stormlight Archive
I think Elhokar will exile Adolin, but will relent to Dalinar's demands that he be allowed to keep his Shards (Which father wouldn't want to see their son protected, even if being banished?), and that will give him time alone with his Blade (only travelling companion - who else will he talk to?), which is what he needs to finally wake up the Spren. -
I think you're right in that I was the first to point a finger and give a reason for voting for someone, but I'll admit, at the time, my reasons were rather spurious. It was the day one lynch, on someone outside of the carriage I was in, based on their rather zealous defense of their character. Being in the buffet car with him, Meta, and Seonid during this day cycle, gives me a little more perspective. I've also read through Seonid's numbers (seriously, they would do a university professor proud), and they do check out. So, everything Adamir is saying here is all true. Heavily defending himself can look suspicious, but revealing a plan, even if the maths was done by another, that could have such detrimental effects to the passengers is worth a reprieve. Adamir, bake me something tasty Ok, thanks for clarifying There were a few people who had one vote each, then Gamma came along and added his vote to me in a tit-for-tat move, even though I had already taken my vote off him earlier in the thread. If Adamir was saved from the lynch by a cultist, look to Gamma. I don't think he is though, but I could be wrong. Edit: Just remembered I need to vote in order to be paid, so... Phattemer, because yours was the name I pulled out of a hat.

In Words of Radiance, there is a Shallan flashback chapter set at a fair Shallan and her family are attending. Just before she meets Hoid, she is in a carriage talking to Wikim, her brother. He rejects her attempts to cheer him up, and this is the paragraph that follows. Now, this could well have been the emotions of a fourteen year old girl, or was it Hoid, prodding her emotions to get her to go someplace to be alone for a moment, where he could ambush her?
-
That's true. I didn't really think about that. So, you purchase it, use it immediately on someone else, and if they are attacked, they are protected for a cycle? And if they weren't attacked, then your purchase was wasted?

Yes Bridge Boy, that is how you vote for someone. Edit: Just for clarification, when you buy the medical supplies item, you can use it to prevent one person dying. Do you have to declare you are using it at the start of a cycle, so, before anyone dies, and you lose it if the person survives?

Movies: Marvel. TV: DC. The MCU wins hands down in the cinema, but I find Agents of SHIELD a little hit or miss. Don't get me wrong, it is good, and I love some of the stuff they use (who doesn't want a Quinjet?), but it isn't as consistently good as Arrow or Flash. Arrow (even season three) has allowed their main protagonists to really grow as characters. As Quiver was saying in an earlier post, Oliver Queen really changes from the first episode to where he ends up at the end of season three. All of the DC characters have that. I do wish they wouldn't segregate the TV and movies though. That has caused a few problems for them, with the Suicide Squad movie coming out.

Who wrote the back cover synopsys of The Way of Kings book?
Bort replied to rtfirefly's topic in Stormlight Archive
I'm guessing you've not read the Mistborn trilogy then? All of that is prophesied, yet it doesn't make for a particularly predictable read. -
Personally, I don't think it matters either way if we let people know which cars we are in and who we are with, as the various actions you can take are not limited to specific cars (apart from, obviously, the car actions), so could be applied to anyone, regardless of location.

Yeah, they are separate, so it doesn't make too much difference, although Shadowrun Returns is more of an extended tutorial than a complete game (you get the Dead Man's switch campaign, but it's pretty short). Dragonfall is way longer, but has a lot more going on, so I'd actually recommend you start with Dead Man's Switch. It'll give you an easier learning curve. The one big advantage Shadowrun Returns has over Dragonfall is that, since it has been out longer, there is more workshop campaigns for it, but Dragonfall is catching up with this as the UGC creators update their campaigns for use with Dragonfall. The big thing I love about the Shadowrun games is that character creation and leveling is completely freeform. Have karma points, spend them where you want.

You Know You're a Sanderfan When...
Bort replied to Shardbearer's topic in General Brandon Discussion
Sorry, this doesn't count. I talk to all my books, not just the Sanderson ones. I have also been known to talk to sticks and other inanimate objects (I had a pet rock for a while). -
Yeah, it's a filter, referencing Braize. When I said I was the only one who really viewed you with suspicion, I don't recall seeing any other reasoning other than a day one poke vote from anyone else. I think I was the only one who actually gave a reason. (Again, I could be wrong, but I've not gone back and read through the end of the thread properly).

I'm really looking forward to Fallout 4. I am not looking forward to the hundreds of pounds I'll need to spend to make sure I have a PC which can run it. Some pointers I liked... Protagonist has a voice. Real conversation with people. I just hope they've done it well. Dogmeat can't die!!!! I doubt I'm the only person who recruited Dogmeat in Fallout 3, then immediately took him home and told him to stay so he didn't get killed. Crafting system. Piles and piles of weapon mods, the ability to construct your own power armour, and, of course, buildings. If I could make one suggestion to the developers, you know what it would be? I would ask them to add a descriptive tag to things like mugs and pencils, so when you are raiding, for example, the Nuka Cola factory, you can pick up a Nuka Cola Mug, or a Nuka Cola Pencil.

I remember reading Elaine Cunningham. She was pretty good. Arilyn Moonblade in Elfshadow and Elfsong, and Lireal Baenre (or something close to this) in the Daughter of the Drow series. If you are into the Forgotten Realms, then I'd recommend these too. She also did a book in the New Jedi Order series, Traitor, I think it was.

Dragonfall, as in the Shadowrun Returns game? Absolutely brilliant.

I can confirm the list of people in the buffet car this cycle. Also, can we get some confirmation... Coinshot Clan members can only kill in the same car? Wait, what? Did I? I am so glad I tied my beard into that lasso. Ah, so I did. Thank you Gamma And that was after I removed my caboose vote from him too. There was no mention of this in my PM, Renegade. Is that deliberate, or is that because I didn't get any baked goods last cycle? (Check the PMs for that to make more sense). Adamir. At the risk of sounding like a stuck record (buggy mp3 for you youngsters), there is something that feels a bit off about his defense. "Don't vote for me, I'm naive. But it's not real naivety, I'm just trying to make myself look innocent." Yet, his votes yesterday were quick, and all over the place, there for anyone to see them contradict his claims. Today, he offers up two choices. Either he gets lynched, or someone accusing him does to make him look guilty. Yet, there is also a comment about how he has attracted 'heavy suspicion'. So far as I know, I'm the only one who believes he is dodgy. I may be overweight, but I'm pretty sure I'm not enough to be called heavy suspicion on my own Now, I'll fully admit I may well be wrong, but this early in the game, I don't really have any solid suspicions.

Vote shenanigans? I count Mennet as having 4 votes, yet Araris died with just 3.

Having also just read those chapters, I find those particularly entertaining. Thanks Twilyght

Pattern is a Cryptic, or as Jasnah said, a Liespren. Creationspren could easily be considered a cousin to Liespren. Syl has admitted that she would basically be a windspren if it wasn't for the bond, and as was pointed out, they do seem to attract them quite a bit. Kaladin has swore three oaths, and finally got Syl as a weapon. Shallan only had the one oath to swear (which leaves her open to some interesting moral dilemmas), but had to also face that final truth before she could grow further. Perhaps we'll see it with Kaladin's fourth oath, or as Shallan continues to develop.

There was a loud thud as Bortholemew the Blind slammed closed his massive tome. Moving to Mistrunner, he bowed. "Mistrunner, I must leave this sanctum for a while. A spanreed message has arrived with a possible location for a clue to the whereabouts of the fabled Shardmarks. I hope to return with good news soon. Until then, stay safe, and never lose your page." The midget with the large hair and glasses bowed again, then headed for the exit.

Me? What did I do? Bortholemew the Blind pulled his ticket from his beard and passed it up to a conductor. "Caboose car," he said. "Right at the back." Bortholemew nodded, retrieved his ticket, and headed back, considering the driver's declaration. Coinshot Clan, indeed. Hmpf. They were nothing but the latest in a long line of bullies, extorting what they could out of the common folk. Not if he could help it. He arrived in the caboose to find the other passengers discussing throwing someone off the back of the train! When his name came up, he quietly tied his beard into a lasso, just in case. Given the relative speed of the journey, Bortholemew thought it important that this matter be resolved quickly, but when the matter of dropping suspects under the wheels came up, he was hard pressed to come up with a name. About the only name he could think of was that hulk of a brute, Met-al. He had made quite an impression, but if anything, seemed to be annoyed that he was potentially on the wrong side of the violence. Besides, Bortholemew expected the Coinshots to be a bit more subtle than that. So, when the time came to vote who was going to go under the wheels, Bortholemew considered carefully, and told the harassed, and more than a little disturbed, conductor that his vote for this leg of the journey would be for Mennet Farrsolin. When pressed for a reason, the small face hidden behind large spectacles and lots of white hair (some now tied into a rather fetching lasso) said, "There is something off about his defense. He claims naivety, yet his actions show experience."

Hoed five words: Yes, No, @, Dodgy, Kill. This is harder than it looks, coming up with five words to be your only form of communication. Inheritance: Whoever can write the best ketek (judged by the spectator doc) about killing cultists. Lovers: I probably would have used the Lovers mechanic to give myself a starting ally, probably Luckat. Or, if I had known at the start of the game what I know now, I would have been sorely tempted to pair Wilson and Claincy. I do really wish I had been Elantrain for this game, as exploring the city sounded like (and was for my brief stay in Elantris) rather fun. Did you guys actually find out what was in the University, by the way?

That was a fun game. Thanks for running it Hero and Tulir So, what mistakes did I make as an Eliminator? I can think of one obvious one - I shouldn't have mentioned my time zone. I'm pretty sure that contributed to the suspicions against me. Kas, you said something about my defense tying into something Kipper said. Could you explain please? I'm not sure what you mean here.

This is an interesting thought. That idea had never occurred to me.
