  1. I can take a guess at this. We see in OB that she has a very Nightblood-esque sword. I think Vasher stole Nightblood from her because she was trying to duplicate the sword. Or at least, create a new version of him.
  2. Syl and Kaladin killed a Fused, by piercing the possessed's gemheart and killing the Fused spren inside.
  3. I think more fabrial surfboards, for riding the highstorms.
  4. I know a Jeff that could be a thunderclast.
  5. "Brightlord Amaram, I salute you. You are what lesser cretins like Sadeas aspire to be."
  6. In Soviet Roshar, Sadeas likes YOU
  7. I really like "I am Shallan Davar" as Shallan's fifth oath.
  8. I think the other thing to consider here is that now the Spren are becoming more desperate. Syl disobeyed to find her Radiant, and Wyndle was chosen. Now the Desolation has arrived, the Spren are all looking to see if they can stave off disaster.
  9. Kholinar wouldn't have fallen, if it were not for the Everstorm, so that can't be blamed on slavery or the caste system. And while the whole enslaving Parshmen thing should never have happened, modern Alethi have no idea that the Parshmen can actually think for themselves, so much so that they need a new word for it when they encounter 'thinking Parshmen'. Therefore, how can the blame for the entire system be placed on Elhokar's shoulders? Yes, he could have done something about it, but he did't know any better. If anything, the fault lay with the Radiants after the False Desolation, who should have seen this coming. At least, I think it was the False Desolation where the Parshmen were created. In all of the rushing around to claim these new, docile and subservient Voidbringers, did none of the Radiants of the time think, "Hang on, this could be bad, should this Unmade we've captured get loose, the world will go to hell"? That's not to say I agree with slavery myself. But in a society that already had slaves, what else was going to happen? The lighteyes were given their rights because people were used to following the Radiants, all of whom had light eyes, as we've seen on Kaladin. The question there is whether or not Vorinism decided that was how things were going to be, or because the people who claimed Shardblades after the Recreance were able to enforce their will
  10. The Girl Who Stood Up. His entire conversation with Shallan.
  11. No problem I am pretty sure that Szeth is wrong about the other Honorblade. I'm sure that Taravangian told him one had been stolen to deflect from there being a Radiant on the field - "It cannot be a Radiant. It must - yes, there was another Honorblade stolen from Shinover. Kholin must have it." Or something like that. I'm pretty sure he was just making it up, although we do not have confirmation of that.
  12. Pretty sure the only Honorblades out in the world are Taln's, Jezrien's, and Nale's. Szeth believes Taravangian because he is Truthless, taught not to ask questions, but to accept his Master's word. Also, he confirms in OB that Nale has his Honorblade. I forget the exact words, but it was something about recognising the Blade from depictions of it in Shinovar, or something along these lines. Pretty sure it was OB, although it is possible that is was Edgedancer.
  13. So, Ishar was the Bondsmith Herald, and although he broke, he doesn't have an Unmade. This does make my theory wrong on at least one level. It wasn't the breaking of the Heralds that gave Odium the tools to make the Unmade. I still think they are connected though. What if instead, it was the Oathpact itself that took something from the Heralds, and this was used to create the Unmade? It could explain why there is no Bondsmith Unmade, as Ishar was the one bonding everyone into the Oathpact, and so didn't have to give up anything of himself. More Brandon Questions: 1. You once answered that each Unmade 'kind of' has a corresponding order of Radiants. Would it be more accurate to say instead that, each Unmade has a corresponding Herald? 2. Which part of themselves did the Heralds sacrifice when the Oathpact was formed? 3. Were the Unmade all created at the same time? ('Same time' defined as the interval between two desolations. 4. Was Jezrien killed because of Nergaoul's capture? 5. (Paraphrased from conversation on page one) Is this the 16th Desolation?
  14. I think this is because, if Jezrien and Nergaoul had the opportunity to bond, it would fix the damaged Herald. This is pure speculation though. Edit: Also, in response to something @QuasarInTheMist said, if all of this is correct, then I think the breaking of the Heralds was Spiritual in nature, or at least, broke something in the Heralds' spirit web (which I think is the Cosmere-y term).
  15. Emmet, the Lego Movie, is obviously a Bondmsith. I mean, he builds stuff. With Lego. He could only get more bondy if we gave him some Kragl.
  16. I was under the impression that the refusal came because in his final days, Honor/Tanavast decided the Oathgates couldn't be used to transport people between the Realms. I do agree with you about Urithiru though. There is a more thorough thread around here, about Navani bonding the Sibling, that looks at just this idea.
  17. Yet, at the end of that very same chapter, Kaladin realises that he could have just left Roshone to die, and probably would have done so.
  18. Truly words to live by.
  19. This would make a lot of sense. Well spotted, I hadn't even considered this connection. @Spoolofwhool - I think you're right about the Oathpact. I was thinking a few more, but @Sira pointed out the Cosmere constant - 16.
  20. So, assuming the Stormfather is correct, the Oathpact was probably the end of the second Desolation. Then fifteen more for the Heralds to break, and now the latest one. 18 Desolations. We should be able to get that confirmed.
  21. I like what you guys are doing with my theory, but would just point out that I never said each breaking created a new Unmade, only that they were created when a Herald broke, using part of their, spirit, soul, or something. If nine Heralds broke, that's nine Unmade, however many times they actually broke. I do like the idea of how many times they broke determines how sapient the corresponding Unmade becomes. I'll admit I was at a struggle to explain that bit. Best I could come up with was, 'Well, depends on what was removed,' which may or may not still be relevant. I can see two questions that should answer us: 1. How many Desolations happened before the Oathpact? I'm going to guess at the answer being 'not too many.' Humans come to Roshar, start the first Desolation. Next is the Listeners' Revenge. I think it is likely to be this second one that forms the Oathpact. 2. Have there been fewer than 20 Desolations? Maybe with some caveats to this, like 'excluding the current one.' Odium did seem very enthusiastic about taking peoples' guilt and pain in Oathbringer. What if this is something like that? Using Jezrien/Thrill as an example. Odium has the Heralds on Braize and does horrible, obscene things to them, like using their fingers to pick his nose. While doing all of this, he is whispering in Jezrien's ear, and showing him visions of all the people he failed to save, all the horrors he witnessed, innocents dead because he wasn't fast enough. (Side note, just think what this would do to Kaladin?). Then he puts Jezrien on a battle field, and forces him to fight on, and on, yet always not quite fast or good enough. And there sits Odium in the background, harvesting all of Jezrien's pain, anguish, torment, rage, and hate. Edit: Meant to add, if this is right, and Odium is harvesting all of this stuff from the Heralds during torture, then Taln's Unmade may only have one part to it's name, but it'll have 4,500 years of pain and suffering powering it. Edit 2: @The Thinking Herald Hadn't spotted this was your first post. Welcome to the Shard
  22. I don't know. Not that I am aware of.
  23. I've had a thought for a while now that the Heralds are in some way connected to the Unmade, but now I've thought it out a bit more, I think I've put it together. Ten Heralds formed the Oathpact, where the Voidbringers could only return once one of them cracked and broke their oath. We have Word of Stormfather that nine of them broke. I think that, when Odium broke each of the Heralds, he took something from them, he 'unmade' them, and that made it easier to break them in the future. The essence he took, Investiture, Identity, whatever you want to call it (I'm not really sure what the actual term would be), or maybe, their pain, Odium used to create the Unmade. Further, I think that the part that was removed is connected to the Unmade's profile. This is why they seem to reflect an aspect of sentience, rather than the whole thing. My reasoning for this is Dalinar. When he feels the Thrill, he is a completely different being. When the Thrill isn't there and he can't fight, he turned into a wreck. Just like the Herald the Thrill was originally taken from - Jezrien. I think this is hinted at in the flashback where they are drinking together. Not in so many words, but in the similarities between them. Another one is Nale. He is practically a block of ice, seemingly cut off from any of his emotions, or some of them at least. I think this corresponds with the Unmade, Ashertmarn. I also think this is hinted at by Lift hugging him. I don't think we know enough about the other Heralds or Unmade to make connections, other than perhaps Ash and Re-Shepir. That is a thought based more on how similar Re-Shepir and Shallan were when they interacted. What would you guys say? Has Ash lost her'curiosity', for want of a better word? So, what do you guys think of my idea? Go ahead and poke holes Edit: I just found a WoB that could suggest I'm on the right track here.
  24. Both of these are events that are noted by the people with them - Dalinar notices the lines, and how his hands don't scrape against the stone, where Syl blatantly asks Kaladin what he just did, and he's as shocked as she is. Jasnah, on the other hand, had the glowing frame around her entire body, and looked "nonplussed." According to Peter Ahlstrom, nonplussed means the exact opposite of what it has meant every other time I've heard it in my life, and doesn't mean she was confused. Quite the opposite, it means she wasn't confused by the glowing framework surrounding her. Maybe it was protoPlate, maybe it was the full set, I don't know. Half of my original theory was that it had fully manifested for the first time since she was stood there looking confused. But, she wasn't, she seemed fine with the glowing framework, so maybe she knew exactly what it was.
