Please, please, please, tell me Brandon has a cameo in book 4 by Miracle Max, come to check Maya's pockets for loose change.

In Way of Kings and Words of Radiance, Sadeas is seen as wearing red Shardplate. In Dalinar's flashback chapters, Sadeas is seen wearing gold Shardplate. What happened? Did he lose his original Plate, or just decide to repaint it?

[OB] Unpopular Opinion: Evi's death was underwhelming
Bort replied to TheDoomsday's topic in Stormlight Archive
Very well said, @maxal. Your post has hit the nail right on the head, with regards to how I view Evi's death. -
[OB] Where are the Willshapers? (Spoilers)
Bort replied to Ataraxian Wist's topic in Stormlight Archive
I don't think Timbre ever hums the rhythms, but the description given is that he 'pulses' them, which to me sounds like it has a visual effect more than audio. -
Adhesion is the 'full lashing' you see in the books, like when Szeth uses Stormlight to seal a door closed. Part-lashings and reverse-lashings are both due to Gravitation. All of this is according to the Coppermind, by the way. In case you're wondering Yes, it is Skybreakers and Dustbringers that get Division. Flashback character for book 4 is most likely going to be Eshonai, although it is possible that it could be Szeth. Either way, these are the two flashback characters for the next two books. Don't be so sure... Go back and reread. Admittedly though, it is a bit ambiguous whether or not the armour was real, or an illusion though.

I had to go for Rock, although this is closely followed by The Lopen. Part of me has to wonder though, do these two have gemhearts, what with being part Listener?

She admits to killing her father as a truth in Way of Kings. 1. Life Before Death... etc. 2. "I am terrified." (Admittedly, this one is probably not one of her ideals, but it is the truth she used when she first visited Shadesmar, and when she first properly interacts with Pattern in WoK). 3. "I killed my father." (Said when proving to Jasnah that she can access Shadesmar). 4. "I killed my mother, and let my father take the blame." (End of WoR). Also, don't forget that the oaths, and what they represent, are down to the perception of the spren. Shallan was living a lie, in that her and her family were all pretending her father was still alive, and that would make "I killed my father," a powerful truth. Also, I suspect that Shallan already has her Plate, although as was mentioned by someone else earlier, she can currently only access it as Radiant, since Radiant is the one that has accepted the truths that Shallan is still working on.

The swearing of oaths? Kaladin swears one of the Windrunner ideals in both books (technically two in WoK). Maybe you could write something looking at the oaths, and the circumstances which led to them being sworn. What makes the second oath ("I will protect those who cannot protect themselves") different from the third ("I will protect even those I hate, so long as the cause is right"), and how each oath is a further step from the one before.

Because she's not evil.

I'm pretty sure Brandon said he was planning a Rysn novella during the OB signing in Newcastle. I'd also like to see Jasnah's adventures in Shadesmar, but I think the one great opportunity Brandon has missed, which would really well as a double feature novella, is the night before the wedding. Adolin's stag do, starring Adolin, Dalinar, Renarin, Kaladin, Elhokar, and Bridge Four (plus Pattern, as a male Spren), and the hijinks they get up to, and the second volume, Shallan's hen do, starring Shallan, Jasnah, Navani, Veil, Radiant, Shallan's new spy teacher (whose name I have forgotten), Adolin's tailor (plus Syl as a female Spren). Oh, and Re-Shephir too, because, why not?
-
I do rather like the newest addition to the Spren stables - Timbre. The name is fitting too, since it is a musical term, and he/she is bonded to a Listener. That said, Syl is awesome, Wyndle is awesome (although a bit less so than Syl), Ivory is pretty cool, although we've not really seen enough of him. Same with Glys. My favourite though, is Pattern. Not just for 'NO MATING!' but because trying to work out the various interactions of the physical realm make him so funny. As a side note, I do like how the Honourspren, spren of oaths and bonds, are also known as the spren practical jokers. What, precisely, is honourable about tricking an ardent into drinking something that will dye his tongue blue?
-
I can see the arguments against Navani becoming a Bondsmith, but I think she would be the perfect person to bond Urithiru (assuming Urithiru is the Sibling). An interesting thought I had though, there are typically three Bondsmiths. Sometimes less, but never more. There are also three Realms. What if the three Bondsmiths all need to be in a different Realm to each other? Think about it... Stormfather is a mixture of Super-Spren and Tanavast's spirit, and requires Dalinar, a being in the physical realm, to bond him. Nightwatcher is, I suspect, being trained up as Cultivation's successor, just in case Odium finds and kills her. I think she will need someone in the cognitive realm to bond her. And finally, the Sibling, who I am going to continue to assume is Urithiru. Like Shardblades, like Shardplate (we assume), Urithiru is a Spren from the cognitive realm, which has manifested fully into the physical realm. All it needs to make it functional is a link to someone in the spirit realm. The more I think about this, the more holes I see in it. Still, it's a theory. What do you guys reckon?

I know that there are other instances of red out there that have nothing to do with corrupted investiture, but this one struck me as interesting. We know that the Listeners turned to Odium (or at least his servants) when Honor and Cultivation turned their attention to the Human refugees. Is it not possible that Odium's influence over them corrupted them to the point where it was visible? Especially when Odium and his minions got into the Listener gemhearts. Also, pretty much unrelated, but do you think Rock also has a gemheart?
-
So we have WoB that red is the colour seen when you have one Shard corrupting the essence of another, which is why you get corrupted Spren with glowy red eyes. Oathbringer goes a step further and confirms that Humans are the Voidbringers on Roshar, since they are the ones that brought Odium to the planet. Throughout all three Stormlight books so far, the Parshmen/Parshendi/Singers/Listeners are described as red and black or red and white marbled skin, and we know from Oathbringer that the Listeners were the original inhabitants of Roshar, and therefore, followed Honor and Cultivation. We also know that, over time, the Listeners were eventually overthrown and replaced as the dominant culture on Roshar, even usurping their Gods and the bonds with Spren. In response to this, the Listeners turned to the Voidish 'God' that the Humans had brought with them, Odium. Before this happened, were the ancient Listeners marbled with black and white skin?

[OB] Shadesmar, Spren Economics and Spren Children

Wyndle isn't Creationspren, he is Cultivationspren. Creationspren are the little mindless manifestations that come to visit while Shallan is drawing.- 46 replies

During his chapters in WoK, Szeth uses throwing tables to great effect, but they are never directly destroyed by his powers. He uses them as a distraction, throwing them at people as mentioned above, but he also turns tables into glue traps, and to block doorways. The only time the tables are destroyed though, are when people crash through them, or they are hacked to bits with a Shardblade. If he wanted to though, I'm sure there are no reasons why Szeth couldn't do to a table what he did with the balcony where Gavilar died. Multiple Lashings, and the table would eventually collapse under its own weight. Again, this is hardly 'with barely a thought' though, is it?

[OB] What could the Fourth Windrunner Ideal be?
Bort replied to TheDoomsday's topic in Stormlight Archive
Nah, that's more like one of the Edgedancer oaths, which have been about remembering the forgotten. -
Well, yeah, that much is obvious, but neither of these suggest 'destroying items with the barest of thought.'. That was always the job of the Dustbringers, wasn't it? The people who could literally disintegrate walls with 'the barest thought'.
-
Windrunners don't get to destroy things. I think you are thinking of Dustbringers. I think Kaladin is already capable of Lashing tables around, I just think it hasn't really occurred to him.

[OB] What could the Fourth Windrunner Ideal be?
Bort replied to TheDoomsday's topic in Stormlight Archive
"I will forgive myself my failures, in order to better protect the living." This is what I reckon the 4th Windrunner ideal is. Kaladin's 4th ideal, at least. Teft's will be similar, but different. -
Prediction that someone will be allowed to live and therefore Odium will win a victory. Possibly connected to 17. Not sure if anyone has pointed this one out to you yet, but I'm pretty sure this one is referencing Kaladin falling into the chasms and 'killing' Syl as he did so, just so he could live. It doesn't come true though, since he 'resurrects' her at the end of WoR. Until he does so though, it does indeed seem that the night will reign - Szeth would have gotten Dalinar, and Moash would have gotten Elokhar. Also, I disagree with #10. I think that one has nothing to do with Thaylah, and the ten people referenced are in fact the ten Heralds. This could put it referring to past events, or it could speak of new Heralds ascending.

[OB][Warbreaker] I just finished Warbreaker _after_ reading Oathbringer
Bort replied to Matt O's topic in Stormlight Archive
Not a joke, but could Mraize be Tonk Fah? He has his fascination with small animals, and killing things. -
Reading this thread, I think I just worked out what will happen with the diagram. Either it is a subterfuge or it isn't, but I think I know who will work it all out. Renarin. After all, he sees. I think Mr T is going to try to recruit Renarin, and I think the diagram will all start to make sense then.

Welcome to the Shard, @Cameron Don't trust the cookies! I think the 'We killed you!' line was Odium referring to him and someone else killing Tanavast. The Stormfather is Tanavast's cognitive shadow, created when he was dying. Then he went onto the spirit realm when he actually died. I think Dalinar used the fragments of Tanavast in the Stormfather to reach out and connect with his actual spirit. I do also like the theory that Odium was referring to Evi.

For a while I thought this was part of the Great Betrayal that led the Radiants to forsake their oaths. As I learned more though, I decided against this theory - they must have been aware that doing so would kill their spren. I do agree though. Imprisoning spren in fabrials I don't think will turn out well. Apart from the whole teaching the Parshendi how to trap spren thing.
