@Curiosity Nice find on the Electrum/Sak quote. Interesting to get confirmation that they all work by the same mechanism, as opposed to Atium being different in kind from Electrum. This is the first I've heard of Allomantic electrum (& co., I suppose) working based on spiritual connections, though "possibilities" was rather obvious, I guess.

An amusing thought, but there's no reason to think there weren't seasons of a kind in the original trilogy; I believe there are even several references to seasons in the first three books.
-
@Argent Not really, it just seemed appropriate here.

Technical issues resolved; finally registered!

@Gibletish It's unknown whether the "jostling" that projectiles/people suffer as they leave bubbles is mathematically modelable or entirely arbitrary.

Basically, I think. After Chicago, I'd say we just need to make sure that mechallomancy can make big bubbles and we've got all the bases covered. I'm waiting on the full signing to get into the database (a lot easier to cite things that way) before writing up a full revision of our current understanding of time bubbles.

Just a reminder pointed @Weiry for putting these last few answers into Theoryland. Oops, sorry for not replying earlier. Which ones did you want/I assume you've already gotten around the problem by this point?

Regarding accidental hemalurgy: Source: So so far as the spear goes, maybe Ruin did some intentionality there for the spearing, but that seems to be the only way the spear becoming a spike could reasonably have happened.

Well it's always nice for me to get an ego-deflation. -- EDIT: I realized that the original phrasing left ambiguous who i was referring to (myself), and so could be read as rather harsh towards any number of other Sharders. I altered it to clarify my intended target.

The man will never stop, it seems: http://www.reddit.com/r/books/comments/2ytg2h/im_novelist_brandon_sanderson_ama/cqbbxmy?context=3 First I've heard of the Era 3 books being characterized as "spy."
-
I'd wager on a combination of cultural osmosis and parallel evolution here, as you've just now basically described the consensus on how Aluminum Feruchemy likely works in this regard. As for the originality of the Breath-stealing idea, I believe I may have stolen it too. I recall that it arose out of a conversation with "Outis" in an IM-style box (so sadly the original is lost to history), so I can't say for sure who's idea it was first, but I think it was his. A later iteration of the discussion is on this thread.
-
"Thinking with portals" indeed, t'would seem. Nice to get a fast turnaround from "well maybe possibly you've got possibly the right idea I guess" to "yes"; perhaps this indicates that Feruchemical aluminum isn't the key, or alternatively that Brandon just felt less cagey that day.

A lot depends on how much the usual mental enhancement of Allomancy can come into effect: if the amount of help the magic gives you with processing the extra info is anywhere near on par with how much Atium helps out, then you might be able to make use of it. Even at low or nonexistent levels of mental enhancement you could get at least some utility out of electrum: noticing that all your shadows that went left got cut in half by a death trap, for instance, Also of note is that I, at least, would think that multiple shadows => useless might not hold true for electrum (at least electrum unopposed by an atium-burner) just because that's how it works for atium. If it's just the oracle burning his own electrum and looking into his own future, literally every point where the shadows diverge would have to be as a result of the oracle's (potential) actions/decisions: so you have a lot more guidance of the process then when your opponent who's trying to kill you is the reason your shadows start splitting up; or you trying to kill your opponent trying to kill you trying to... is the reason someone else's split.

It's more of a personal preference than an argumentative stance, so I'm not trying to win you over on it. It just seems to me that that kind of things stops character actions and developments from being internally consistent, making them some 11th hour "oh btw he was being affected by X the whole time, or he would have behaved entirely differently." Now I say this and am likely being inconsistent/hypocritical because Mistborn Spoilers And as I type I've been thinking up counter-examples where I didn't mind this kind of background mental manipulation. I guess I'm just a contrary fellow. Welcome to the twisted and inconsistent world that is my mind when I'm thinking about actual story elements rather than mechanics. I could see such an argument potentially swaying me; no need to go to the trouble of making it though, as the suggestion alone is enough to consider for now. @Moogle Yeah, I remember the Weeping-depression discussions.

I'm mostly lurking and ninja-posting WoBs these days: not much to draw my avid interest otherwise. And it turns out that being gainfully employed cuts down on forum-surfing time. Who knew. Don't worry, once Weiry gets the Chicago stuff into the Theoryland (so I can link to it all nice and proper like) at the very least I'll post some more mad-conspiracy-theory time bubble stuff. --- RE: Odiousness I take your point, it's just... Meh. I've always found "'twas the magic that made him so" revelations to be annoying, to be honest. I loathed the plot twist in the Tawny Man trilogy, for instance. Yes yes I'm sure anything Brandon does will do a good job of it, but I've got some baggage to get over on this end. Plus I really do always think of that scene whenever I read suggestions about people being influence by Odium.

@natc There's no need to be harsh: I should have spelled out/explained the acronym. Sorry, I used an acronym there. We know it from the Mistborn Adventure Game, the pen-and-paper RPG put out by Crafty Games. It's status is best described as "pseudo-canonical", particularly when it comes to the nitty-gritty of the magics (game balance and whatnot), but that's where we get the matter-of-fact claim that atium metalminds don't degrade.
-
Yes he did. He got some of his fancier stunts from Hemalurgy, apparently. Also, as an aside, he didn't use a bead (though he still made himself exactly as powerful as a Lerasium mistborn, apparently (sorry, can't find the citation on that at the moment)). So yes, that is what I'm saying. Or at least implying. They are atium spikes, and the MAG (that font of ever-trustworthy magical knowledge... ) indicates that atium spikes are special in part because they don't decay; this alongside what we already know in that atium can apparently steal basically any power it pleases. I'm not sure what rituals you are referring to.
-
Way ahead of you, Chaos. To expand, I'd guess that individual spikes (or individual atium spikes, at least) can hold multiple powers. That and either TLR picked a perfect bindpoint or atium is once-again special in not necessarily requiring as much bindpoint precision. EDIT: @Weiry Yeah, that too.

I hate to say it, but Wax has somehow managed to look even more like Tom Cruise in this cover.

I will quote a gentleman and scholar (a handsome devil, too) from long ago: Granted, it turns out that the Thrill is sourced at Odium through the Unmade and Shallan's father is being affected by something... and so on, but still. I'll stand firm in my perhaps hopeless hope that there's some stuff that people do that isn't tied directly to the KR or a shard.

While you've committed an unforgivable offense, it is perhaps possible that your offering of WoBs is enough to earn forgiveness.
