I'm moving this to Cosmere Theories and flagging appropriately for obvious reasons.

Shouldn't we add Coppermind pages for each of the ten Surges?
Chaos replied to Quickbronze's topic in The Coppermind Wiki
I think moving the Surge info off of Surgebinding onto the Surge page, for now, is sufficient, and maybe in the future, when we see how other magics interact with Surges, we might move them onto their own page. -
Hello, I would strongly prefer you to not ever be condescending and say your statements with grace and humility, rather than things like "All evidence points to it" and very declarative statements. Purposeful condescension is still not good for proper discourse and you will not continue that. Okay, with my mod hat off, I would like to provide you with a counterargument. Venli in chapter 120 attempts to swear the First Ideal of the Knights Radiant (though she is cut off there). This strongly suggests--when a spren tries to get you to say the First Ideal--that you're becoming a Radiant. I think that's a very safe reading. She then finishes the First Ideal, and takes in Stormlight: Next, in chapter 121, not only she drinks in Stormlight, she says this: So she can drink Stormlight (that would be a Nahel bond type thing), refers to her and Timbre having a "bond", and then Timbre refers to the "human betrayal," that screams the Recreance. That evidence does not support the idea of Demid, and very strongly indicates a Radiant relationship.

No OB stuff outside of the OB board. I've moved this appropriately now given the conversation seems to be leading to book 3 stuff.

I think it will take us practice for us to be super professional about everything. I know there was just one time for me where David was pretty croaky, but that happens.

Sorry about the delay on Arcanum stuff. Brandon wanted Peter to review it, and we didn't know what the review process should be like. However, we developed a plan with Peter. Things that need to be reviewed will be labeled "Pending Review," but you all can still see this stuff. For the next book tour things will go much more smoothly. This was unexpected and Dragonsteel didn't have a concrete plan, so it took us a bit to hash that out.

I gotta admit, my eyes glaze over with any Spiritual Realm stuff. It's the cheat realm where Brandon does whatever he wants in it to make the magic work. What specifically are you referring to here?

There's a massive amount of work that needs to be done on the spren page

Welcome back to Shardcast. This week we are talking in exhaustive detail about Oathbringer's Part Three Epigraphs. And I do mean exhaustive, because this podcast is longer than our Oathbringer reaction podcast. There is, however, a huge deal to talk about. These are the Urithiru gemstones, and it is crazy. Listen on, and we come up with some excellent theories for the time around the Recreance and the False Desolation. Plus, we get on a lot of exciting tangents too. Note: there are full Oathbringer spoilers here! We also discuss the mystery project, Skyward, which we got a reading to the other week. Kerry's sick today, so I am hosting, along with Ian (WeiryWriter) and David (Windrunner). Stay tuned for next week when we talk about Part Four's Epigraphs--the last of the interesting ones.

I... don't think it would be legal for us to have searchable versions of the texts publicly available. I think we could get in serious trouble for something like this.

Unfortunately, I have to lock this topic. We don't want to promote piracy of it--not that your desire is not legitimate, but if people just post a link to a full PDF, that would be very much abused. I imagine you could buy an English epub of it.

On the Stormlight Archive subreddit, there is an Ask Me (Almost) Anything with all the beta readers for Oathbringer. These are readers who read an earlier draft of the book and gave extensive feedback to Dragonsteel and Brandon about it. There's tons of spoilers in the thread, but if you want to know about beta readers, the process, or anything, go ask there! Beta readers have a special flair for this event, so you can easily identify who they are. Now, we say ask "Almost" Anything because some things we might need to run by Dragonsteel before we can answer it.

I'm so disappointed people can't be respectful to others. Oh well, guess I'll lock this topic. Seriously, come on guys.

I've moved this topic to 17S Discussion.

There's a topic in the Oathbringer board for memes. Use it.

Today we have an interesting, unusual giveaway. We are giving away a special alternate dust jacket of Oathbringer to celebrate its launch! This dust jacket was put together by beta reader Darci Cole and graciously donated to the 17th Shard by the group. It features a minifig Dalinar and Roshar created by the wonderful and talented Rick Martin. Also included are fun, candid pictures of Brandon and Peter, plenty of inside jokes, and the signatures of the members of Dragonsteel! Included are memes like maladroitly, [REDACTED], Peter's many "i" adjectives, and more. It's perfect to cover Oathbringer just before you are about to bludgeon someone with it with the book's enormous weight. To enter for this giveaway, all you need to do is register a 17th Shard account (if you don't have one) and comment below, saying that you'd like this, for a chance to win. Due to shipping costs this can only be sent to residents of the United States. Apologies! The contest will end 12:01 Eastern time, Monday, December 4th. We will then PM the winner for their shipping address. Here are the full pictures of this dust jacket: Exterior image, with signed by members of Dragonsteel Entertainment Sketch by Ben McSweeney on the interior of the jacket Special thanks to Ravi for his contributions to this article, and thank you to Dragonsteel and betas for this wonderful giveaway!

You won't be putting Oathbringer spoilers here. You'll be putting it in the OB spoiler board, with the relevant tag. See the spoiler policy on the top of every page for more details.

No.

Click the link in the sidebar (or in the overflow menu in the navbar) and you can!

Report it anyway, we would like to know rude and obnoxious people and monitor them.

Oathbringer #1 NYT Bestseller, Goodreads Awards Voting!
Chaos posted a article in Brandon and Book News
We know many of you are not American, but for those of you in the United States, Happy Thanksgiving! You know what I'm thankful for this Thanksgiving? That I can talk to you about the excellent, excellent book called Oathbringer. Today we have two exciting pieces of news. Moshe Feder, Brandon's editor at Tor, revealed on Facebook that Oathbringer hit #1 on the New York Times hardcover bestseller list! (It also hit #6 in the UK). A major congratulations is in order, and it is well deserved. There's one more thing going on, too. If you loved Oathbringer, you can vote for it on Goodreads Best Fantasy List for 2017. You could actually vote for it a bit earlier than its release, but we didn't want to espouse voting for something that wasn't out yet. But if you loved Oathbringer, you can go vote for it! Voting ends November 27th, so get it in before it is too late. You do need a Goodreads account to vote. -
That's what that means; that's how you undo giving rep.

Okay guys. It's time for us to nerd out about Oathbringer together, and how freaking crazy awesome it is. We're spoiling all the things. This won't really be a deep-dive like Shardkeepers was, but more of just us talking about what we loved about Oathbringer. There's a lot, and we didn't say everything, even! You'll have to excuse us having a big cast on this one. We have Kerry (KChan), Ian (WeiryWriter), David (Windrunner), Alyx (FeatherWriter), and I (Chaos). Turns out a lot of us really wanted to talk about Oathbringer, go figure. Comment below, sub to our YouTube channel which is getting regular stuff--and will have more than just Shardcast--and follow our Soundcloud! (Also, what is this? A podcast coming the week after the last one? This is madness!) As we talked about in the podcast, here's the link to Arcanum, the Words of Brandon Archive: https://wob.coppermind.net
