Heyo. I'm doing okay, thank you for the birthday wishes. I have been meaning to thank people on my profile and such, but I am incredibly absorbed in revision of my book. I am, to be honest, just much more active on Discord, so you'll see me on the 17S server significantly more (particularly the #writing channel).

It is literally illegal for people to be on this site under the age of 13 due to US Federal Law. We cannot collect any data on individuals under 13. Also, just internet safety thing, teens: it is incredibly stupid to reveal your age like this! Yes, 17th Shard is a nice place to be, and I'm glad you feel comfortable here! But your profile and your posts are public to everyone on the entire internet. The entire world could see if they wanted to. And the internet archive exists which could potentially archive your posts forever! There are lots of sketchy people in the world! Do not publicly say your age or your location! This is very unwise! Do not be a target for extremely sketchy people! Your anonymity is the most powerful shield against this! There are many, many stories of how this could go terribly wrong! I certainly remember being a teen and I can realize this can fall on deaf ears here, but please trust me as a teacher, this is incredibly stupid to reveal personal information on the internet! Please be careful!!! I would strongly recommend anyone posting their ages to remove it at the very least. If you say where you're from, answer broadly, not specifically.

This is all measured on desktop on the max width the site can be. Yes, this can be hard to determine. I don't have a better metric for you, nor a technological way with the system to enforce it. I can enforce like... number of paragraphs, but that's kind of irrelevant if you have one paragraph with tons of characters on it. I might recommend people just make shorter sigs in general. You don't have to, of course, but brevity is the soul of wit, you know, but you don't have to be a gas and expand to fill the space More extensive information/listicles might be better on About Me.

Yes, you can. One can just edit the initial post. I will change this title, but there will be something that people could consider spoilers. There's a balance between that and usability. Also, "hathsinium" is not a real term. Perfectly fine for fans to use it, but is not canonical.

Hiding is soft-deletion. We could restore it for you, if you wish, if you hid it. But deleting would make it very difficult to restore, so that is why you will only have Hide rights on the forums. I even instruct mods to not use the actual Delete function unless it's a spambot. So for your purposes, Hiding and Deleting are identical.

Always happy to adjust my language, and it's entirely people the queer circles are not reflective of broad community, but I am aware that queer used to be used as a slur, but it has been suitably reclaimed. I think context is extremely important here. I would hope anyone who is discerning can see the obvious thrust of my argument that I'm not using it in a pejorative sense. Many others on the Shard forums and Discord use it similarly. Of course, things depend and I'm sure opinions differ, but a simple Googling on the topic leads to various links on this topic. (This one directly discusses the example I used of "queer people".) The debate on this is interesting, but it does seem like I'm using "queer" within extremely common usage nowadays.

We did not; we are quite familiar with why people would choose Discord, so that's not really necessary. It is vastly more active than the forums, particularly for book discussion. For example, our Emberdark channel has over thirty thousand messages. The Ghostblood preview channel, over 4000. The Wind and Truth channels? Nearly four hundred thousand. The Silksong post (not even a channel, but something kind of like a subforum, kind of) has nearly 9000 messages. How much Emberdark discussion has been on the forums? 800 posts. Yes, forum posts tend to be longer, but it's not even remotely comparable. Forums do have their niche, but they are much less popular. That has been the trend for years. (It doesn't help that people tend to prefer Reddit over forums, and also have done so for years.) The overwhelming amount of posts here are in the RP or forum games section. It has been that way since after Oathbringer. (Coincidentally, when our Discord server started.)

I don't think I have set any groups to have anonymous posting, but that is possible for me to do. We absolutely use groups! These are foundational to the forums. For example, you know how on your posts it says "Members"? That's a group! Other groups are the various staff groups or Patrons, etc. Permissions and other things can depend on group. If you do Advanced Search -> Member Search, you can see a list of the groups.
