Oh, I bet he will. Way of Kings obviously has much more story to tell, and it's hitting the Shard mythology really hard, comparatively. And Elantris has many more secrets with the Fjordell. I think we'll get it all soon enough.

Just so you know, I'm very close to espousing this. I don't think the giving away Breath thing is that catastrophic. We know that the Spiritual and Cognitive aspects are separate, but intertwined, from the way Shards work. Shards need a mind to control them. This comes back to Realmatic theory, which we know little about. Shards can create sentience--aka a Cogntive aspect--that kind of makes sense. The Cognitive and Physical come from the Spiritual (Shard power). I think this is reasonable. But once Shards create something, they don't have to remain intertwined. For example, a Shard can create an animal, a rock, or any other Physical object, but that doesn't mean they have to have a soul. It seems to me that the Cognitive aspect is similarly distinct. So in our case, Breath (the Spiritual) forms sentience (the Cognitive). Now they are separate things, so there is little harm in moving Breath around.

Sigh. That is all. Grrr When has the site been inexplicably down for you? I know in the past ten minutes I got a 503 error... Grr

It's like I admin the Mistborn RP or something.
-
That's true, but then what would determine the type of Misting that person becomes? We don't really understand the full mechanics of how this power-fracturing thing works, from a Preservation standpoint.
-
Oh, gotcha, that makes sense. In that case I think that trick would work. I see no reason why it wouldn't. The only limitation, then, would be the amount of metal you have.
-
I seem to recall something about quality of color, so I think you're on the right track. I like this idea a lot. Though, on your note about Sel and Roshar, we also don't know much of the creation mythology there. The fact that we don't know doesn't invalidate this theory. In fact, I think it is immensely likely that this is the case.

So we're storing pewter into a pewtermind, but we're burning a regular Allomantic reserve of pewter? Or am I misunderstanding what you are saying?
-
Well, I was under the impression that the increased Preservation is the prerequisite to Allomancy. Offworlders, except for maybe those who came from the planet where Adonalsium Shattered, probably would not have "Preservation," so to speak, since my assumption is that other Shards have created them. I do think if an offworlder ate lerasium, it would surely make them an Allomancer. You're gaining a lot of Preservation there. Since you are from another planet, maybe you don't have as much latent Preservation inside you as, say, Elend, but lerasium would probably boost you enough to make you Mistborn. You might not be as strong as the Lord Ruler, however.

(Just a friendly note, try not to double post. In most cases you can just use the edit button on the lower-right hand side of your previous post) Welcome, Aaron! It's good to see you here. I'm Chaos, site admin and the guy who writes really long theories. You'll see me around. So do you still live in the Utah area, then? EDIT: Of course you are, your profile says so. (I can read, really!)

Hey Eric, I'm Chaos, and my name is also Eric. Good for you, you spelled it correctly I'm the site administrator, so not only do I run the forums but I also have a hand in the wiki as well. Not that I've had much time to edit it... But, the point is, if you have questions on categorization, you can ask me. Joe asks me stuff like this all the time. I'm also good if you want to fact-check something, especially Mistborn. Feel free to ask me any questions you want. In my profile you can contact me in pretty much any way works for you. So yeah, welcome to 17th Shard! It's great to have more hardcore fans here.

More like alluding to conflicts that would reap interesting storytelling possibilities. Just as bad, really. -

Well, let me give you the quick rundown of what the backstory to the movie is. Humans and vampires fought forever, even with incredibly modern weapons. People started living in walled cities under the Church's protection. Then the Priests arrived and started kicking vampire butt. (I was never entirely clear what their special powers were. It wasn't even obvious. I guess he's good with cross-shaped shurikens, but really, it just seemed like an excuse to have some "cool" action scenes. Why they would be more effective than, say, machine guns is beyond me.) Vampire war is won and they are forced onto reservations, and the Priests are disbanded. So, the setting is basically a Church controlled dystopia written by someone who doesn't understand religion at all. Oh gosh, what was the line they kept using? "If you reject the Church, you reject God." This isn't quite the line--I think they used a different word than "reject"--but you get the idea. By the fifth time they said this, I was rolling my eyes. The Church completely ignores some vampires breaking free from the reservations (guards are useless, I guess) and act as stupid as you'd expect cliched dystopian leaders to be. Our main character Priest (they apparently don't get names) disobeys the Church to go rescue his niece, who was captured by vampires. We have a scene of Priest praying, saying that he didn't want to offend God. Fun fact: the girl is actually his daughter!!!!1! (Super great plot twist, except it doesn't matter, and I don't care) So in retrospect the movie seems a lot like revenge-fueled vampire kill-fest. So, to review: The Church thought the most efficient way of controlling the masses was to say "Church is God" in literally every scene that we are in the Church-controlled cities. I don't know about you, but I think people would catch on that the Church is obviously evil. Hell, the Lord Ruler did a better job than this Church. There is no reason to even bring up this conflict of faith with the main character, because it doesn't matter. I'm not sure how the writer managed it, but when you say "Warrior Priest" to me, that sounds like the natural story involves a conflict of faith/tolerance vs. violence. This never appears in the movie at all. The Church is worldbuilt very poorly. We have a ton of cross-related imagery, so are they Christians? No, clearly not. Christ isn't mentioned, and there is no actual references to the Bible referring to, you know, good things. There wasn't any scripture quoted in this movie at all. So while you have places named Jericho, I couldn't for a second believe that this Church evolved naturally. There is no character where religion helps someone and they actually do good things. Sure, Priest kills vampires, and they are obviously evil, so that is good, I guess? Except for the fact that it's referenced in the movie that Priest enjoys the killing. It happens in one scene and then that crucial character point never matters. So yeah, I get pissed off when religion is the obvious straw man. That by itself is a mortal storytelling sin, but you know what else is worse? When religion doesn't even matter in the endgame. Karl Urban had a line of dialogue that seemed reminiscent of a smart movie with smart conflicts. He's a human vampire (not to be confused with humans who are bitten by vampires--those are Infected), and the villain. But yeah, he said "I've looked into the soul of the vampire, and saw that it is more pure than any of ours." Now doesn't that suggest an awesome movie? It would, but like most of the dialogue in this movie, it is totally inconsequential. It was based off of some Korean comic book, and I think, judging by lines like that, the comic is much less stupid and attacks these conflicts head-on. Still, from what I saw, the worldbuilding was lame. You know what would be a better movie? One of those eternal vampire wars, only with lots of guns. They showed this in the opening (animated) narration, and that seemed like a much more awesome movie than anything we got. -

Well, religious people shouldn't see this movie. You will be offended. Heck, I'm offended anyways. The plot is stupid, because there is no rational reason why the abducted girl needs to stay alive. The dialogue is lame. The setting could go so many more interesting places than this movie. Karl Urban is less lame in this movie. He makes a great villain, which would be good if the writing did not suck. The actors did what they could. Basically the whole movie insulted my intelligence, thematically, character-wise, story-wise, setting-wise, dialogue... you get the picture. Everything that makes a story good is absent from this movie. Even the action scenes weren't memorable, and sometimes offended my intelligence. There are so many reasons why I hated it that it's hard to distill it down. I guess you could just say, "was dumb, waste of money, and 3D wasn't even a gimmick, just nonexistent." Only reason I even went because I got to hang with a friend who I hadn't seen in a while. You, however, should not see this movie even if it was free. -
Dear God, Priest was a terrible movie. I'm not even Catholic and I'm offended. Also, my intelligence is extremely offended.

The reason I'm here on this site is not just because I love his books, it is for the reasons you describe. He is hands down the most gracious person on the planet. He is more than worthy of the hours I spend on this site. He is truly inspiring. He's everything I want to be in an author. Sorry, that wasn't a story, but he tolerates my endless crap the two times I saw him. He genuinely cares about his fans, and I think other authors would just think I'm crazy. (Hey, that reminds me--and it is way overdue--can you post the wedding pictures to the Gallery? Brandon said to, eons ago, before Adonalsium was Shattered. I forgot.) -
I would just like to say this topic's title is a horrible pun, and I love it. That is all. You may now go back to your regularly scheduled RP

Yes. It turns out that a lot of the weirdness of Adonalsium was because their members came from TarValon.net, which had those same avatar restrictions. TarValon also did a ranking thing, which Adonalsium used as well. So that makes more sense. Our site seems to be more of a Dragonmount model, if you feel like comparing to WoT fansites. Different types of communities, I suppose.

Congratulations, you can do geometry The first problem is easy, but the second problem is imprecise for me to work on that. Also, they are boring.

It is certainly possible that there is no quadrant structure. I definitely agree with you there. Of course, I like organizing things, so I'll continue to do that. But I wouldn't be immensely surprised if there is no such structure like this. Those quotes are quite interesting.

I don't know about the unidentified ones, but the one marked in purple is Aon Ata.

Huh, it worked for me. Can you see it now?

So, I tutor this girl in high school geometry. Apparently they think this is how you problem solve in math. Ignore that the second problem isn't written with very precise language (is each shutter 2x-24 wide? That's how it is written, but the picture suggests that is the combined width for both shutters). In fact, ignore the dumb problems entirely--it's high school geometry; this is par for the course for dumb problems. Just look at the first page. This type of thing drove me insane in high school, and my anger has only increased since then. Is this how some people think you actually solve problems? This is just a feeble attempt to provide students a framework for solving any math problem. It fails, of course, because it's unnecessarily complicated, so any student who looks at this says, "Wow, this is stupid. Why would I ever do it this way?" There's no pedagogical benefit for the students here. Pro tip for teaching: make what you're teaching actually seem important. And what's with this "verification"? Am I supposed to go through my algebra again, hoping I made a mistake so that section isn't a complete waste of my time? Apparently. The final flaw (at least, that I feel like ranting about now) is the Accuracy section. The final answer isn't significant by itself--especially in these barely useful problems. It's the methods that are important. That's the great thing about collegiate learning: the answers are in the back. Or its a proof, and the journey is the problem. I guess focusing on the answers is great for engineers, but I don't think it's why we care about math. Math is important because it teaches logic and critical thinking. That's why math should be exciting, and that's why this assignment completely fails in doing anything.
