  1. CrazyRioter posted that a little while ago, but there's kind of been a lot posts in the Mistborn boards for the past few weeks And Firiel, if you look closely, in the first battle in The Hero of Ages, an Inquisitor taps speed. An Inquisitor's Feruchemical spikes also gave them the ability to store and tap health, which gives them their healing abilities.
  2. Sure, why not?
  3. There could be a connection in this way. Interesting to think about. It wasn't "freed" like "Ruin is now free" free, but rather, it's just accessible for use in Allomancy.
  4. I highly doubt there are additional magic systems. Otherwise, the writer of the Ars Arcanum in Alloy would have noted additional manifestations of Investiture. Yes, it's an in-world document, but you would probably pick up on that fact. The unknown metals disconcert me. I thought, in my initial reading of Alloy, that chromium and nicrosil haven't been discovered yet. You'd think those types of Mistings would be talked about a lot, but they weren't. And the Ars Arcanum makes it pretty clear that they have been discovered. So, I have no idea what to think about the unknown metals, except that I'm kind of scared by them. It could be because I am quite tired at the moment, but if you stare at those two sentences in a weird way, it says that the Words of Founding and its teaching proved men like Miles were special, not necessarily that "Trell says men like Miles were special." (Also, what the crap, that second sentence is totally a fragment. Was that intentional in context, or is that a typo?)

    Age of the Well

I know somewhere it was said that the piercings of the Hero were a thing that Ruin had invented to control the Hero. Oops. Turned out that was in the Hero of Ages spoiler thread which explicitly spells it out, not the annotations. EDIT: Though when you look at this way, the annotations do seem pretty explicit. Sorry for the confusion.
  6. I still haven't written up my Alloy release report yet, but indeed, the body remembers its actual age. Brandon explained it to me that Feruchemy is all about multipliers. A healthy person like Miles could store 20% of his health in his body, but if a sickly person tried to store that much, that would be very bad (the example we used at the signing involved storing strength, but the same principle applies). That means that as the Lord Ruler aged, he could store less and less age into his atiummind to burn--he'd have to spend more time aging to get the same effect. And the thing is, the Lord Ruler doesn't just need the "same" amount of age-boost, he'll need a lot more as he gets ancient. It simply costs more to snap back from 1000 to look 20 than to go from 100 to 20. Brandon said that he may have eventually reached a limit, where his Compounding wouldn't be enough to counteract that effect.

Yes. Please post it there. However, in the Hero of Annotations, Brandon says the spikes were indeed so Ruin could manipulate Alendi. Therefore, they were Hemalurgic.
  8. Indeed. It should be noted, however, that it's certainly possible that some Shards have more "Shard power" than others--when glass shatters, you don't equally-sized pieces. But I like this explanation better.
  9. Now that's an interesting idea. I don't have any critiques to it--it's straightforward and elegant. This is an excellent possibility. I'll have to think about it before espousing it, but I very much like it.
  10. You want questions? Here's an important one which isn't on the list yet: In Alloy times, has Odium ever traveled to Scadrial? I can give you plenty of questions like that, haha...
  11. I espouse this theory.
  12. Late night writing music.
  13. Well, if you want, you could interpret it as "to control". That's what it means to have dominion over someone. It's kind of weird if you haven't heard of it, but then again, I sure as hell didn't know what Odium meant until Way of Kings. (I hope "odium" is a word on the GRE... I take it tomorrow )
  14. That was my understanding of it. I suppose it doesn't have to be the case, though. Thor, this is how I have it. We know it goes Elantris, Mistborn, Warbreaker, Alloy (concurrent with Warbreaker), Way of Kings. So I'd order it like so, with the assumption that Liar and the main Dragonsteel epic are both before Elantris: Liar of Partinel Liar sequel Dragonsteel - Five books Elantris First Mistborn Trilogy Warbreaker, Alloy of Law Stormlight Archive - Second Mistborn Trilogy Third Mistborn Trilogy There are some books that are unsorted. The Silence Divine, for one. If I would place Silence Divine in the chronology (with no factual basis whatsoever, solely on the distribution of the books), I would guess it happens between SA/MB2, and the third trilogy. I don't know, because there needs to be a standalone in there There are also the two Elantris sequels, but since the POVs in the Elantris sequel are in Elantris, it can't be more than 30ish years later. There'd probably be the same decade jump for Elantris 3. Since Alloy happens 341 years after Hero of Ages, I would venture that Elantris happened at least that long before Mistborn (however, there is nothing to back that up). Thus, in the chronology, the Elantris sequels would be next to Elantris. Oh. There's White Sand, that trilogy. I have no idea where to place that. It's important to know that when Brandon says "main cosmere arc", I am fairly certain that means stories that will deal more directly with Shards. The first Mistborn trilogy obviously qualifies, and Stormlight does as well. In Warbreaker, it doesn't matter so much, and same with Elantris. It's background for the world. So while other books may not be in the "main" arc, they are still important. Just as not as earth-shattering as, say, two Shards dying and a person picking them both up
  15. I don't think so. Aona--pretty obviously related to AonDor--is Devotion (or a synonym, whatever). It's possible that Skai/Dominion has a role in Elantrians, given that the Dor may be made up of both Devotion and Dominion's power, but I'd say it is fairly minimal. Dominion's much more related to the Fjordell magic. Consider Wyrn. I long suspected his extreme power came from the amount of followers he had, with the Derethi oaths and such. The power comes from having dominion over people.
  16. Not exactly. Brandon's said that the "main" cosmere arc goes like: Dragonsteel, First Mistborn Trilogy, Stormlight Archive, Second Mistborn Trilogy (concurrent with SA), Third Mistborn Trilogy. I have no doubt that Stormlight is important to the cosmere and the overall story arc, but I think the story will focus very heavily on Roshar. Dragonsteel is the origin story, and it seems as though the Third Mistborn Trilogy has a lot of space travel to other planets. I would figure those two would be more important in wrapping it together. Shard Obsessed, good to see you here. I too am rather Shard obsessed. I'm so excited knowing about Dominion I always assumed that Taldain (world of White Sand) had two Shards, which left five for Dragonsteel. I don't think this is too incredibly unreasonable if Yolen is indeed the origin world for these Shards. I can imagine that quite a few would want to stay and meddle with things there. Then again, he said he didn't want to explicitly nail down the number of Shardworlds. So there could be more, I guess. Technically, Shards can jump around. Brandon said that Sazed could go to Roshar, but he just has no plans to do so. Those are all good questions. I like it.
  17. I'm moving this to General Theories. This does make sense. When we talked with Brandon, I asked him if Domination was Skai's Shard, and he said we were on the right track. So, awesome. Dominion is great.
  18. In today's Tor chat with Brandon on Twitter, Brandon RAFO'd me on if Endowment's holder was female. He had a smiley face on that, though, so I think we're right.
  19. So, you're a Borg. Huh. I'm glad you didn't assimilate us at Alloy...
  20. The fact that it's hard to make any commands when your head is chopped off is kind of a big deal
  21. Aha, that's where I got that idea. Thanks, Satsuoni.
  22. You can't exactly command yourself to burn more metals when your head is chopped off.
  23. If you're bored, the Alloy of Law Summary page on the wiki, there's a crapload of redlinks that need articles. My one request would be to use the [[Category:Mistborn]][[Category:Alloy of Law]] tags at the bottom, because that makes it easier to see which Alloy articles are finished or not. Just, you know, putting it out there if you have some writing you want to do
  24. Shardpins, I think, are an excellent idea.
  25. Well, there you go. It helps when I actually read what you posted.
