  1. Psh, well who cares about Safari I kid, I kid. Unfortunately the new Rep tab is a built in feature of 3.4. Admins will still be able to see who explicitly did downvotes, so we will just need to be more vigilant. I don't really like the change. That's weird how it killed all the lines. I've been trying to replicate it, but I haven't figured out why it happens (though obviously it does, since it happened earlier). Very bizarre. I just tested this. Here's how you can fix that. Let's assume your desktop is set to the desktop skin. Then on your mobile device, you'll be directed to the desktop site (well, actually, initially I was auto directed to the mobile site, but nevermind that right now). If you would prefer to have the mobile site on your mobile device, don't tap "Change Theme" on it; instead there is a "Use Mobile Version" button just to the left of Change Theme. The Use Mobile Version button will set it for just that device, whereas Change Theme will change it for all devices. I've just tested this and it definitely works. Use Mobile Version only appears on a touch device, by the way, so you don't see it when you're on a desktop or laptop.
  2. Not anymore. They changed it in IPB 3.2. I can only presume that it is to draw your attention to topics you care about (unread, and ones you've participated in). The default icon is a bit smaller and perhaps made more sense. Welcome to change
  3. You can't disable the rich text editor as far as I know (at least in your settings), but clicking the button on the top left switches it off, and in my experience that setting has always stuck. I have discussed the lack of icons before in this topic; this does not give icons for read topics. Not a bug, that is by design. The icon table also is not a thing, but you can hover over the icons and a tooltip will say what it means.
  4. No need for an NDA I'm happy to send you the file and help how I can. I'll send it to your forum email. EDIT: Apparently, this is a built in feature to IPB 3.2 and higher, which is why the hook was never updated. Go to the dropdown menu (upper right) and go to View New Content. In the "Other" tab, click "Items I have participated in". This will show unread replies in topics you've posted in
  5. On the board index, or the forum view? Because the forum view has that. That's the iron icon--new posts in things you haven't posted in. Tin corresponds to things you have posted in. When the tin icon is lit up, there are new posts in the topic you have posted in. Additionally, Josh is telling me that now on the mobile view, the "Use Full Version" button now works on his Chrome and Safari on iOS. He updated his iOS version today, so that may have fixed it, but let me know if anyone has that issue (also Kurk, let me know if you're on the latest iOS).
  6. No no no. Sorry, maybe I was being unclear. We did not axe it. You see, our software is built on Invision Power Board, and we simply had to upgrade due to a couple of errors (like the emoticon bug) and the amount of spambots that were registering. So we had to get more up-to-date software, which we don't code ourselves. On top of that new version of IPB, modders code additional modifications to the board which can extend the functionality. The View Unread Replies was such a mod, but whoever wrote it just never updated it past IPB 3.1 (we are at 3.4 now). So it has absolutely nothing to do with policy and solely due to the fact that we can't run that mod anymore. I would like to have functionality like that, and if or when some sort of mod appears like that, I will so install that I'm really sorry we can't run it anymore, but the site overhaul to fix more pressing bugs (and also to make the site look somewhat good) was more important. In fact, the site updates have been much delayed, so I'm glad it finally happened. Thing is, yesterday, we were on the old version of IPB, and overnight everything changed (as you can no doubt tell from the radically different design and layout). Hey, if you can learn to build IPB hooks, I will so install any hooks you code. But it's kind of beyond my ability. The documentation for coders isn't really the best, though is getting better. Again, really sorry that functionality doesn't exist for you anymore. In the meantime, you may want to use the Follow feature. Scroll up to the top of the topic and you can click Follow on the top right, and it will notify you when there are replies to topics you care about. That might be the best stopgap for you.
  7. Gotcha, that makes sense The link to View Unread Replies should not exist anymore, so just remove your bookmarks to it. Not sure if I can remove the error message, as it isn't supposed to be accessed anymore anyway. That mod was great, but clearly unsupported in this version, and it hasn't been updated in a long time :/ Sorry about that. It was never a core feature, so there's a lot of hooks that can extend the functionality of things. The author of said hook clearly hasn't wanted to update it. EDIT: Maybe I should discuss the dropdown menu there, which Windy pointed out, and why I constructed that. I was never satisfied with the old layout, where we had a bunch of links like "Members" "Statuses" "View New Content" and such just sort of floating near the top, yet not in the main navbar. So I wanted that navbar to contain those elements that are useful, but aren't really primary navigation like that. That dropdown will contain more minor items later, like links to our Facebook and Twitter.
  8. On the View New Content thing? Very strange. We haven't seen that (and I'm trying to toggle stuff through View New Content and not getting the error). Has anyone else had this error? EDIT: I would note that the old "View Unread Replies" that was in the old user dropdown menu is not a thing that exists. So if that was what you were trying to access, that's why. But if it was View New Content, that's kind of problematic.
  9. He may need to edit his notification settings, maybe? Not sure.
  10. Hah I did not even noticed you did that. Yeah, the mobile site is... basic. We never really skinned 3.1's mobile site, and we haven't worked on the current mobile site, but we will. At least this one is going to be a good base to work with. In the forum view, you mean? That's not really a bug, though a difference from the old forums. Here, they have removed several icons. Now icons will only be present if you've posted in a thread or they are unread (or if they are closed). But there is no icon for a read post. There's an anomaly with links, I have noticed. For example, my sig's links are darker for some mysterious reason, while everyone else's are this brighter blue. I will work now to change all links to be this less harsh, dark blue. So Kurk, you'll probably want to remove those color codes in a bit EDIT: I have changed the link colors, much better.
  11. Hah! Still, the only reason we know about the grudge is from the Letter. I feel it is essentially confirmed.
  12. Thanks! Speaking of WP8, I set the user agent of the mobile skin so WP8 will send you to the mobile version by default. That wasn't set before. Additionally, I have made a slight CSS change to the topic view--now, at the top of the post, there is a blue bar where it says your name. I think it makes it less "wall of text white", and maybe does the same thing that the old bar did for you, Kurk, in the old topic view. You may need to delete your cache to see the difference, but I did not.
  13. Whoa, what the crap? That HTML was weird, but I edited it out now. Thanks for testing that, Kurk. Clearly there is a problem somewhere. I'm going to need to send a support ticket for that (which is a thing we can do now because our software is up to date) I think. Any Android users want to try that a bit? I've also removed the warning points thing; that was just unnecessarily ominous. Now to fix those tabs in the member view.
  14. It's funny because Josh and Mi'ch and I got into a big argument on how Cultivation is really Ruin's opposite. I was adamantly opposed But okay. But this is so amazing. Absolute confirmation there are sixteen Shards, and almost confirmation on Hoid writing the letter (after all, the grudge against Rayse is only mentioned in the letter). And also that Shadesmar info makes total sense and matched my conception of it. Empty space is contracted severely, so there's less "distance" to travel when worldhopping.
  15. Okay so I guess this thread is going to be my bug center. The mobile skin should now be working fine. It should automatically detect a touch device and direct it to the mobile skin. And there should be a "Use Full Version" button at the bottom which can move you back to the desktop version. You can also use the Change Theme button on the bottom left to switch between the two. Slight problem though: Josh and I are having inconsistent results with the Use Full Version button. It works on my Galaxy Nexus and Nexus 7 (both on Chrome), but it doesn't work on Josh's iPhone 4 on Chrome and Safari, yet does work on iOS Dolphin. What the crap? If you're bored, can you see if the Use Full Version button works on the mobile site (especially if you are on an iOS device)?
  16. Yeah I don't really like the warn counter thing. I believe I have updated the mobile skin. I've tested it on my Galaxy Nexus and looks fine. Let me know if there's any issues!
  17. Okay, I have awakened! Let me address things, in non-chronological order First, whoa that mobile skin is borked. That should not be like that at all. Apparently IPB didn't want to upgrade our mobile skin in the upgrader. Or rather, it tried to, and got this abomination. Oh well, that's first on my agenda then. (Though unlike Josh, the Full Version button works just fine, even on that half-upgraded skin). Yeah, Kurk, resizing that box is kind of weird. I was able to sort of resize it, but it does do that bizarre resizing thing. I'm not totally sure what can be done about that. The text editor has some nice improvements, but it does kind of feel to me like I prefer the old 3.1 style. Part of that is because I simply prefer typing my BBCode, so all the toolbars and stuff is all cruft to me. So, I usually turn off the rich text editor there. Or I would, except that I discovered that if formatting is on, I can press CTRL+I and it italicized my text, which is possibly the best thing ever. Hmmm, I'm trying to resize it, and it sometimes works and sometimes is weird. I'm having better luck doing the main post reply screen (click More posting options for that), and MBI seems to do it more consistently. Not sure what is going on here. I will need to investigate this further. The annoying thing is how it seems to push your cursor up, for some reason, but once it does, you can still resize it. Also, I have not been able to replicate how it destroyed that post, Kurk, but that definitely sucks. One last thing on the new post box: it apparently autosaves posts, but I have absolutely no idea where it saves those posts into. Overall though, I highly recommend that if formatting is being weird to use the pure text editor for a few moments to get the code straight. (The annoying part there is the pure text editor doesn't like word wrap :/) Okay, wow, that insert quote thing really is amazing. Let's discuss tags a bit. Senor Fresh, I agree, I really miss that we lose Topic Descriptions. Unfortunately, there's no way to get them back on version 3.2 of IPB and higher. They decided to go with tags instead. Tags are actually going to be really awesome, because if I tag a topic and, say, a news article with the same tag, by clicking on the tag, you get content from both. So tags aren't just a way to find similar content in the forums, but the entire site. So give that Popular Tags thing some time. It isn't really useful now because nothing is tagged, but it could be very helpful in the future. Plus, there's length on that sidebar to spare, so space isn't a concern. Not sure what's going on with those tabs on the member pages, but I'll get that fixed pronto. Avatars should still be the same 100x100 size for everyone, but they do feel larger. Hmmm, not sure I like that "warning points" thing being displayed to all members. I thought that just staff saw it, similar to the old warn system. Don't worry, we rarely if ever use that warn system, and if we did, they totally had it coming What else to say for now? I think give the new boards some time. I've used them pretty extensively over the past few weeks and I really like them and their look. I can understand people saying the layout is a bit bright, for sure, but give it some time We will most certainly make small adjustments as we go along.
  18. Okay so fun story about working on site upgrades late at night: sometimes they make you do stupid things. So granted, pretty much everything is what we wanted them to be, uh... except the part where I deleted the awards system because... well okay it seemed like a good idea at the time! The Lord Ruler made it all better! It's all good! We have the awards database backed up so we'll give everyone their awards back tomorrow or the next day. Don't fret, my skaa! Also, there are some other minor things I need to do tomorrow, so if you're wondering why your reputation count does not appear in your posts, that's a tomorrow thing. I'm pretty sure I just typed "there" instead of "their" accidentally at some point, so we both really need to go to bed, but I also really hope you think this looks as spectacularly better as we think it does. Okay that sentence also isn't grammatically correct. Whatever There's also a big guide in the works, showing you through all the new features! But uh, you know, probably best to wait for a bit more coherency before posting it. So instead you get to be explorers in a brand new world, post-Ascension, and explore it for yourselves! Only, you know, with less ash.
  19. Yeah, I feel having one sticky thread of FAQs per forum is the way to go there.
  20. Kurk, you definitely do bring up some valid points. I need to think about those. However, I do at least want to mention why I grouped TES and Elantris: because their magics are clearly related. We've had topics to that regard as well, even with your Region Locked Magic thread there. If that board was split, it would be hard for me to determine where those threads go. The logic there was that 1. The Elantris board hadn't gotten much discussion (go figure, there hasn't been a new book in that world in forever), so TES could enhance discussion there, and 2. Maybe people would come up with some interesting threads relating the two. I'm definitely not trying to sound dismissive, because your ideas are good, I just wanted to tell you about my rationale there. I personally think that in general, less boards is more, and less subforums is even better. (For example, since the Other Stuff forum allows for posts, I think Short Stories can just be posted there. A subforum would be mostly superfluous.) An Other Cosmere board, however, would be a good home for Shadows for Silence, which admittedly hadn't occurred to me before. But we have time to hash out Shadows for Silence, that's for sure I'm curious, why do you feel TES and Elantris should be split? Because I really do associate the two together, and their magics do complement each other. I wanna hear your thoughts there, and I really appreciate the input. That is definitely something we should do! Probably a sticky topic in each main board for FAQs on each subject, or something.
  21. As for hints, you can already see we've implemented an updated forum layout. The big change is yet to come
  22. UPDATE: All right, we're finished at a much too late at 7am! But it's here and we hope you like it. Tell us how you feel here! Original post: Hey guys, if all goes according to plan, we will be performing fairly major software maintenance very late Wednesday. Currently we intend to begin at 11pm Mountain Daylight Time (so 10pm Pacific), and will probably go into Thursday morning until about 3am (with any luck). Due to the nature of what's happening, all the forums, including IP Board (our software)'s other applications, like the Home page, Gallery, and such will need to go into maintenance mode, and you will not be able to post or even view the forums. However, the Coppermind and the Mistborn RPG will remain unaffected. In addition to this stuff, we will be making minor adjustments to the forum layout, so if things get moved around before then, don't be alarmed! When the time comes, we'll be updating you on Twitter and Facebook on how things are going. And I think you're really going to like the enhancements

  24. I can't believe he actually answered that, wow.
