  1. Happy Monday to you all! There's lots of news (and some older news we haven't covered), so let's get into it. First up, we have two new chapters from Dragonsteel Prime: Bridge Four #2 and Bridge Four #3, ending with Jerick becoming a bridge leader. Speaking of bridge leaders, we have a new annotation for Way of Kings, talking about chapter 1. It's interesting, as it makes sense that chapter would be controversial (the book has a prelude, prologue, and chapter one before we get a viewpoint from a protagonist), but ultimately seeing Kaladin flash back to those events is much more powerful. Next, we got the back cover blurb for Oathbringer in a tweet last week. This is different from the publisher's synopsis. Each of the back covers of Stormlight books are in-world and are written by things we've seen, in fact. So here's the blurb: Yup. Whoa. I love these things, so it's awesome to see this. Discuss this and more in the Oathbringer spoiler board. Next, and onto older news, on September 17th, according to the progress bars Apocalypse Guard Draft 2 is done. Nice! Lastly, we have some very old news from earlier this summer that I'm aghast we have not talked about on the main page. Admittedly, you guys all probably knew this already, and we've suspected for years this was the case. Mistborn: Birthright, the Mistborn video game, long delayed, was canceled July 24th, 2017. A statement from the CEO is: I'd link you to the original post, but they also deleted their Facebook page some time after that. RIP Birthright. I'll say that, though the lack of communication was extremely infuriating and their optimistic time schedules were maddening, I appreciate the candor here. I too would eventually love to play and stream such a game. All right, I think that's everything that we've missed so far. Stay tuned for tomorrow for another batch of Oathbringer chapters.
  2. Please report people who are doing this
  3. No! All Oathbringer spoilers must only be in the Oathbringer spoiler board until release. Upon release there will be slightly more leeway.
  4. Do not post Oathbringer spoilers in this board. Many people are avoiding sample chapters. I will be temp suspending people who violate this from now on. After release we will use tags in topic titles to coordinate this and some things will be allowed in Cosmere Theories.
  5. How about you post Oathbringer spoilers in the Oathbringer board, as you should?
  6. Guys, I'm going to close this thread. Let's make a typos thread upon release, as Peter said.
  7. It's Tuesday, so you know what that means. It's time for yet another set of Oathbringer chapters, this time chapters 16-18! Since I'm not going to spoil them here, go check them out, or check out our discussion thread here. We also have some super exciting other things. We have another Merin chapter from Way of Kings Prime, but we also have an annotation for the prologue of Way of Kings. Most excitingly, we have a Bridge Four scene from Dragonsteel Prime. That's right. That Dragonsteel. The annotation on the Szeth prologue is quite interesting. He explains how the magic was quite different in Way of Kings Prime, and how he immediately wanted to make sure that readers knew it would be a high learning-curve series. He says that Jek, the old version of Szeth (which we read a chapter from) had no magical abilities. Brandon also talks about how he needs to put his foreshadowing front and center, and teases us with the black sphere, as usual. But we have to talk about Dragonsteel Prime. This was Brandon's thesis long ago (and you can still read it at the BYU library). This excerpt is from Bridge Four. Yup. If you don't know the story, Brandon lifted the entire Shattered Plains from Dragonsteel, and the entire Bridge Four sequence. In this section we are introduced to the Shattered Plains--and immediately told why they are Shattered on Yolen, which is still a mystery to their existence on Roshar. Then we get Bridge Four, and you can tell it's very similar but less well-written. Oh yeah, and you also meet Frost, the guy who Hoid writes the letter to in Way of Kings, and responds to Hoid in Words of Radiance. He's here. You get a mention of the Sho Del, because they aren't fighting Parshendi on the Plains here. So yeah, it's pretty cool, because basically no one has read Dragonsteel. Check it out. As usual, only discuss Oathbringer spoilers in our Oathbringer spoiler board, or our Discord's #oathbringer_spoilers channel. You can view all the Oathbringer chapters and their discussion thread in our Oathbringer Chapter Index.
  8. So when I wrote this, their Kickstarter said Ascendant Warrior, which seemed odd to me, but that has now been fixed on the Kickstarter. I will fix the post Also yay! It's funded.
  9. I know we just had a big Kickstarter, but there's another one coming up, and it's really cool. Shire Mint, folks who made wonderful fantasy coins for Lord of the Rings, Game of Thrones, and Wheel of Time, are Kickstarting Mistborn coins from both Era 1 and Era 2. The coin art was designed by Isaac Stewart, inked by Ben McSweeney, and overall, the design, metals, weights, and styles were all approved by Brandon. For all intents and purposes, these are canonical coins. How freaking cool is this. It's basically new lore for Scadrial. I am in. Shire Mint has worked with Team Sanderson for a year, and it sure shows. Check these coins out: Era 1 Boxing The front is a picture of Kredik Shaw, with the text "One imperial" in the Steel Alphabet. The back (on the right) is, what they say, the symbol of the Lord Ruler. That's actually been the symbol for Kredik Shaw on every map of Luthadel, so it's not a new symbol, but this is the first time we see it as referred to as the symbol of the Lord Ruler. As a history lesson, these coins are officially "imperials" but are colloquially boxings as it displays Kredik Shaw, the Lord Ruler's "box." Era 1 Clip This has an image of the Lord Ruler's face, text that says "one clip," and on the back, the symbol for copper, surrounded by the iron symbol, which is 1 in the Steel Alphabet. Era 2 Boxing The front has a picture of the Lord Mistborn and the Elendel Basin, and uses the Era 2 symbols. On the back, it has a picture of the First Central Bank, also surrounded by the iron symbol, standing in for 1. Era 2 Clip On the front, we have Vin, looking awesome, and on the back, it has the copper symbol, the number 1, and the words "one clip". I must say I am completely enamored with the Era 1 boxing overall, as a huge fan of the Lord Ruler. I need this in my life. However, Era 2 is cool as well! The designs are absolutely amazing and look incredible on the coins themselves. The backing levels are pretty reasonable: $14: One gold boxing, and you can choose Era 1 or 2. $20: A boxing and a clip, from either Era 1 or 2. $35: All four coins $75: Four coins with a display box $125: Hilariously, a bag of coins, with 24 clips and 4 boxings and a leather bag. You can choose an Era 1 bag, Era 2 bag, or a mix. $350: You get a coin that has been to space, as well as the standard 4 coins, and the bag of 28 coins in the $125 level. You can also buy the bag and display box separately on add-ons. Since Shire Mint has a very good reputation, I have no doubt the product will work great, and its goal isn't that high (especially compared with the Kaladin album). This is going to be a thing, and judging it's already 30% of the way funded before I post this, in a half hour after it's been live, this is going to make it. Check it out!
  10. This is also not the correct forum for Stormlight discussion so I have moved this to the Oathbringer board. 17S discussion is for discussion of site issues
  11. I couldn't tell you. The save feature is weird. Type posts separately in something like Google docs and paste them in. (Or do what I do and have lots of tabs.) Do not write long posts in the editor.
  12. What browser is this?
  13. YOU MUST POST OB SPOILERS IN THE OATHBRINGER BOARD. I will start restricting posting on people very soon.
  14. I've temporarily removed access to the link as there is something in there that should not be posted publicly.
  15. This is the topic necroing policy. It is not the same as other forums you might frequent. As such, there is nothing inherently wrong with topic necromancy. You might feel differently. You might feel that people should make a new topic instead. Generally though for book discussion I tend to feel that if it relates to the topic and adds to it, I don't really mind. In some cases, heavy moderation can be good. In some cases, heavy moderation is bad. On this, I'm pretty relaxed. But let's be real here: this is not really a big problem. I do see the person doing this and I will probably talk to them. However, philosophically, I feel there really isn't anything wrong with people adding to older discussions. They should be adding and contributing positively, for sure, and not just say things that are already pretty clear. But inherently, there is not anything wrong with this. In the future, you can Report it! It helps us identify these things and we can take it from there. Let's be real: this is an exaggeration in Cosmere Theories. Most are posted this year, some are posted from 2016 and generally seem pretty relevant to people's interest in Stormlight, and there's one from 2013 that I would say is a pretty bad necro. You're vastly overstating matters. Additionally, there's always a lull in Cosmere Theories between big books. Obviously. Should you like to sort by new topics, you can sort any forum by using the "Sort By" feature on the upper right of the forum list to find results you will find more interesting to you. There are a wide variety of filters you can do. You can sort by recently posted topics if you wish, and do custom filters as well. It is possible that you have different preferences on what to read than others. It is important that we are welcoming to individuals coming back due to Oathbringer hype who might be contributing to some older topics. If it's relevant, I think that's fine. If it isn't a relevant addition, that's not fine and members can report that. But as you can see by the first paragraph in our topic necroing policy, we are applying it exactly as it says. If you're contributing, you can go revive a dead book discussion topic.
  16. Thanks for letting me know. I've fixed this. (I've also directly invited you as well.)
  17. Good morning! Tor.com has posted Oathbringer chapters 10-12.Check out our forum topic on chapters 10-12, and for all Oathbringer preview chapters--and their discussion topic--check out the Oathbringer Preview Chapter Index. As usual, keep Oathbringer discussion in our Oathbringer Spoiler Board and the #oathbringer_spoilers channel in the 17th Shard Discord. Do not post Oathbringer material elsewhere! There's also two Way of Kings Prime Chapters: Merin 1 and Merin 2. Merin, who, remember, is the version of Kaladin in Prime, is insanely different from Kaladin. There's lots of differences in the world. Oathgates exist and are active! Check it out. It's a fascinating look into an old draft.
  18. It's here!
  19. You can Ignore Users, which will prevent their content from appearing. Click the dropdown menu on the upper right and go to Ignored Users. This isn't the same as blocking, and I do think some sort of blocking should be in our software suite, but we are at the behest of IPS for this. If a user is becoming an issue to you, do not hesitate to let me or staff know in private and we will work out a sensible plan to deal with that. But! If you want to just not have their stuff appear, you can Ignore them.
  20. No Oathbringer spoilers outside of the Oathbringer spoiler board. Do it again and I will smite you.
  21. I've finally fixed this. Apologies on the delay.
  22. On desktop click the newspaper icon and there is "Create New Stream". On mobile open the menu and hit "My Activity Streams" and the button is there.
  23. You'll need to make your own stream as Pagerunner says. I can't hide a forum from streams, sorry!
