Change: Ruin- cultivation, Invention-Endowment Bind: Dominion-Honor, Preservation-Wisdom Passion:Odium-Mercy, Devotion-Whimsy Independence: Autonomy-Ambition, Valor-Virtuosity. I think Hoid and Sigzil held the independence Dawnshard seeing as they are both quite independent, traveling the Cosmere. The Torment may be what allowed Sigzil to skip. Neither Passion or Independence are verbs.

They are commands, I can't Command you to independence, or Passion, but I could Command you to feel or Change. So yes, they probably have to be verbs. 2

(small aside: I doubt passion or independence are their names as that's Odium and Autonomy's things)

So the Command in question is 'Be', modified to what exactly it is to do. Sort of like 'Change' can Command people/things to various ends, based on how you use it. Edited May 26, 2023 by therunner

The Stick Posted May 27, 2023 Posted May 27, 2023 To be fair, they probably are not all verbs. I would say 3 verbs and 1 adjective from Brandon saying one Dawnshard is different from the others. 1
Chandlerhimself Posted July 26, 2023 Posted July 26, 2023 Why are the Dawnshards being used to group Shards into categories? Is there a word of Brandon saying they are split this way? The Dawnshards were around pre-shattering and Brandon said the Adonalsium could have been split in different ways. To me it makes more sense for the Dawnshards to just be commands and the Shards to just be intents with nothing really connecting them. Is there some reason people think they are related that I'm not aware of?
The Stick Posted July 26, 2023 Posted July 26, 2023 The mural in Dawnshard, combined with some suggestive WoBs have led people to group Shard Intents into groups of four, which are then used to extrapolate Dawnshards. 2

Yes, there are WoBs, and the mural in Akinah suggests those groupings exists: Spoiler Questioner How much should we be thinking about possible logical groupings of Shards? For instance, as pairs or groups of four. Brandon Sanderson Go ahead, knock yourselves out. This is relevant, but only in a sort of Cosmerenaut sort of way, people who like theorizing on these things and what not. It's not going to be hugely relevant to the narrative, but Dawnshard does indicate that these groupings are a place you can go. The Dusty Wheel Show (June 17, 2021) Spoiler Questioner In Dawnshard, we see a mural of Adonalsium being Shattered. Brandon Sanderson Yes. Questioner It’s, like a circle that splits into four parts, and those four parts also split into four parts. Brandon Sanderson Yes. Questioner So I’m wondering if there’s a way to group the Shards in terms of being, or…? Brandon Sanderson I would encourage people to be trying to figure this out.
