"Yeah, we're from another planet." Said Hoblim, a little amused by her bewilderment. Until he remembers how he'd have reacted if someone told him that.

"Yeah, sorry. We have no idea how we got here, though luckily we already know a thing or two about this planet. Oh, and people on our world do build cities near volcanoes sometimes, I guess it's weird. Though volcanic ash makes the land more fertile, somehow. There has to be a good reason as to why people do things."

"How'd you learn about this planet?"

“The book you’re reading,” Kelsier answered as the dirigible dropped, leveling out again under the oily black clouds. “And a few others.”

"Can I read the others too?"

Kelsier shrugged. “If they have them.” His copies were kept safe in metalminds Connected to his Identity and he had no intention of sharing those.

“Yes and no. They aren’t accessible at the moment.” The ash was falling thickly now, as they passed beneath the volcanic clouds. Soon they were alongside the volcano.

The barren mountain had grown taller since Kelsier had seen it last and the cone had changed shape slightly. A minor eruption that he’d missed. Well, it wasn’t the first time. It hadn’t been that long ago he knew; ruddy rivulets were still glowing on the eastern side of the blackened mountain, where the lava had yet to cool.

Kelsier smiled, his steel sight picking out every flake of the ferromagnetic ash. Behind the clouds the sun burned a dull and angry red. It was good to be home.

Lilli should be able to tell that the ash is ferromagnetic.

"What..." She stared at the ash, frustrated. This was going to be extremely distracting. *internal moaning* Why. Just, why.

Roues carefully piloted the vessel around the smoking mountain, heading toward a large island some distance away. A canal had been cut through the island, splitting the city at its northern end.

A city made of close packed tenements, interspersed with lofty keeps bedecked in stained glass windows. At the city’s center rose a hill formed of a thousand spires.

It was a city that shouldn’t exist; a city that had died over 300 years before. A city loving, painstakingly, recreated; stone by stone, brick by brick, perfectly Preserved.

Luthadel.

Noticing the abundance of moving steel lines, Rylia looks up. They're all pointing at the mountain. She slows back down. "What's wrong with the volcano? Is it coated in flakes of metal?"

Kelsier shook his head. “It’s ferromagnetic. There’s a lot of iron inside the mountain.”

You are still in Elendel with Marea. Kelsier took the Earthers to New Luthadel.

I look wide-eyed at the city. Even back on earth I hadn't seen a city from above, especially from a dirigible and especially not a one that look straight from the 13th century, and DEFINITELY not right next to an active volcano. What's it called, I wonder? And why build it here on this small volcanic island?

It’s not actually on the volcanic island, but on a small island near the volcano.

“New Luthadel,” Kelsier replied.

"New Luthadel? I don't think old Luthadel was..." Oh, perhaps not the best thing to say. "Did you do this?"

Kelsier smiled, the expression strangely soft. “I Preserved it. In form, at least. I’d like to think it is better in character than it once was.”

Hoblim coughed a little. "You know, not all of us have the right lungs to live normally in the Final Empire." He said. "And... Did Harmony creat it for you? Do you really like this better, after all your effort to bring the world - well, Scadrial - back to normal?"

Kelsier snorted. “As though I’d let him. This is mine.

”And you’ll be fine. We’re further away from her than Tokyo is from Fuji-san. The existence of which should prove that volcanoes are, strangely enough, normal. At least on worlds like Scadrial, Earth and Yolen. And people like to make their homes near the volcanoes, for whatever reason.”

Tokyo is about 62 miles away from Mt. Fuji, an active volcano. It’s not the only example, but it was the first that came to mind.

Since when does she know about Sel?

“There are. But I don’t think I need to list every inhabitable world that isn’t Roshar to make a point.”

Since she compounded and tapped speed, reading Arcanum Unbounded.

Kelsier nodded. “The Island Kandra lived here first, along with some select members of my crew. The Kandra still live here, but these days the islands also host my crew and their families, itinerant and immigrant worldhoppers, a couple of Koloss tribes...” He shrugged. “Not much point in a city that isn’t lived in.”
