Riva wanted out of the ballroom. Having the court see her like this was terrible for her image. And without her image... what was she really? She'd wiped most of the pie off her face by the time she got to the exit. But the guards did not let her pass. "Let me through," she growled. They paled, but did not back down.

"I'm sorry, Lady Raven, but we have strict orders not to let anyone in or out."

"Excuse me?" said Riva. She put her hands on her hips. "Do you know who I am? What I could do to you?"

The guard trembled. "T-take it up with General Praetorium." He pointed.

"Oh, I most certainly will." Riva marched up to the man she'd been pointed to. She recognized him from when she'd had to save Jassir from his bullying. "I demand to be let out of the ballroom to wash myself! Tell your guards to step aside."

Caden heard someone approaching and he turned to see the Ravenness herself coming. Caden paled slightly, but he stood up straight to try to impose himself over her. "No one is allowed to leave without my permission, that includes you Ravenness."

Darrin sensed movement. There, up ahead. Another figure, jumping. Well, it appears this is a popular thing to do at this time of night. Darrin smirked, drawing an arrow from his quiver. This target would be much easier to hit than that oaf of a king. He fired, then drew again, in case he missed.

So I guess he's just ignoring the knife? I acknowledge that it'd be a hard shot, but Jasper's pretty dang accurate.

Oh, storms, I must have read that post too fast. I thought he just grabbed a knife. We'll say that Darrin's first arrow was to shoot the knife away. Darrin is a good shot too. ;)

Darrin's arrow hit the knife, pushing it off target. "It's been a pleasure shooting at you, sir, but I'm afraid I don't have all the time!" he shouted, arrow still noched. "I'd be happy to shoot again, if needs be, but I'd prefer to get off of this ledge unharmed. You understand."

Caden grit his teeth as the Ravenness stared at him through her black mask. "I can't make an exception, especially not for you."

"Especially?" She grinned, chuckling darkly. "It's natural to fear me, darling, I promise. But I am no threat to our king, we both know that. What happened to get us all locked down? Someone try to assassinate Ivian, did they? I notice he's not here right now. And... oh. Oh dear. This happened on your watch? The king will be rather angry, indeed, I would think... But maybe if you let me through, I'll slip in a good word for you."

A tired-looking guard opened the door. "Hello?"

"Hiya, umm... I'm looking for my dad." Wendy fidgeted with her fingers.

"Who's your dad?" The guard asked.

Wendy started to sweat. She had not planned this out.

Arvis raised his eyebrows. "What...?" As the woman turned tail and ran into the forest, the guard stood dumbfounded. Welp, that didn't exactly go as planned. His colleagues, too, were rather confused.

"Should... should we go after her, sir?" one of them asked.

Arvis shrugged. "I... don't think it's worth it. We got one, that has to be enough for the Raveness."

"B-but... she could have our heads, sir. You've heard about old Vadim, ain't you? The stories... The Raveness messed him up good, she did."

"Of course we've heard the stories," said the third guard. "But Vadim was a spy, he was. We ain't done none of that, we're safe. Don't you think this youngun's enough?"

"It has to be..." said Arvis. He picked up the girl, swinging her over his shoulder. "Let's go back."

@Vapor

Arabella chose not to struggle, instead staring after Biana hurtfully.

"He's... Lord..." She desperately tried to remember some of the nobles' names. What was the name of that one guy? "Um... Nicolae. He's a manservant to the king."

She remembered this name because of how often Robin complained about his flirtatious habits. Apparently, nobody save the Raveness was considered to be out of his league.

Oh dear. Uh... Nicolae is 19 and Wendy is like... 16? So... uh...  *cough*

Arvis and his companions returned through the window they'd gone out of. The Raveness, however, was talking to the general; neither of those individuals were ones that the trio of guards were eager to converse with. Still, the (oddly quiet) child slung over Arvis's shoulder was drawing stares. With a sigh, he took her off her shoulder and pulled her arms behind her back, letting her walk with him.

He and his companions strode up to the Raveness. "Um... Lady, Raven?"

"What?" The Raveness turned around, arms folded distastefully.

"We weren't able to catch the one who threw it, miss - she escaped into the woods - but we did get her companion."

She raised an eyebrow at the girl. "A child?"

"Yes, miss."

The Raveness scoffed. "I've never tortured a child before... What's your name, little one?"

With a sigh, Riva leaned down so she was on the child's level. "I asked you a question, child. It's not very wise to deny me an answer. Speak up, please."

"Arabella. My name is Arabella," Arabella said quickly.

"Well." Riva smiled. "Nice to meet you, dear. I'll be asking you more questions later. This guard is going to find you a room."

"The dungeon, miss?" Arvis asked.

Riva stood up straight. "No, of course not. She's a child. Find her a room in the servants' quarters. Just lock the door."

"Oh." Arvis blushed, then saluted. "As you command, Lady Raven."

As the guards moved to leave the room, Riva leaned towards Caden. "You'd better not be letting them out and not me," she said.

"I'm afraid that's a deal I can't take. Please, do come quietly. This is quite a nice place, and I'd hate to get blood on it." Jasper whipped off his cloak as he jumped again, briefly concealing his location.

So the Raveness isn't completely heartless? Good to know.

"Can I go to him? Please?" Wendy asked.

The guard yawned. "I'll go get him." He closed the door.

Darrin's smile widened into a grin. Someone he returned his quips? He loved that! "Oh, I never come quietly, good sir," he said. "I must admit though, castle walls aren't a great place to duel. I'd be happy to do so on the ground." Darrin, too, jumped to a different window ledge. It was a long drop, but he made it just fine.
