If I sign up to GM a game, how long will I wait?

obviously not qualified right now, but maybe i will be by the time

I waited about... 2.5 years for an LG, 1.5 for a QF

On average around 9-10 LGs are run a year when I counted, and the list was 37 placements long at the time

Done. Know anything about what game you want to run?

I don't have a full concept together yet

So I would also like to Sign up for a QF, currently working on a Canticle Ruleset for it.

You know, I recommend you sign up for everything you want to run even if you don't have rulesets yet

The wait time is like a year

I signed up in August, and I'm still 19th on the MR list

I’d sign up for more because of that, but I’m not gonna be able to run anything in a year

I think I might need to give my slot up

You just don't take up the slot when it comes around- plenty of people do that, me included. It's perfectly acceptable to also ask to be moved to the inactive list too- the spot will be waiting for you when you come back. :)

That’s nice to know. It’d be a long wait though, like 3 years from now

but I’ll probably do that

I've only waited 1.5 years, and SE was a lot more active back then. You'll be fine.

Yeah the list is pretty long, but you have to remember that a lot people just…won’t run a game when they hit the top of the list. Life happens. Oftentimes the person running a game will be like #4-6 on the list. Occasionally #2-3. Very rarely is it ever #1. You’re better off signing up now and just passing later if you hit #1 at a bad time. Because then you can just log on whenever you are free and grab a game if you want.

EDIT: Oh, speaking of, for some reason I don’t have a slot on the LG list. Can I get two of those? @Jo and the Bush @The Unknown Medallion @Araris Valerian @|TJ| Since y’all are the more active mods right now.

Hrmmm. . . Maybe. Sure for right now.

Given the actual wait time of running a game, and the eagerness with which some people have to run games, (Such as me, who would happily run every game), I'm actually going to go talk to the others about how many times someone can appear on the list. Like, I have half a dozen games ready to run currently. Should I sign up for half a dozen slots and run 6 games back to back, preventing anyone elso from getting to GM for half a year? Obviously not, but where is the 'acceptable' amount of multiple sign-ups at once?

my personal rules involving the list are:

  1. Never should be running two games of the same type back-to-back (it'd be not only very tiring but also taking away from others)
  2. Should have some semblance of a plan when signing up for multiple games. Having 3 different rulesets that you want to try out is totally fine but it ticks me off when people are just "reserving" slots in bulk
  3. Should always respect the community around you when GMing games, which includes both the players and the GMs- hoarding a bunch of slots is kinda like taking the whole bowl of Halloween candy when it says clearly just to take one.

I was told a little while ago that we're only doing one slot per game type now

People are grandfathered in, but can't get more until they're out of slots

Ah I didn’t realize we’d changed that. That’s fine with me then, you can put me down for just one. I’ve got like 2 or 3 LGs I haven’t run yet, but I’ll just wait until a few more people have signed up and add another slot.
