"Here, we should get on Felicity. We'll go faster that way"

Cara stopped and bent down to help hoist Ni onto Felicity.

Ni didn’t even realize that Cara had picked him up until he was already on top of Felicity. Limply straddled across the horse’s back, Ni could only catch glimpses of the world around him between the blinding white light.

Felicity.

Trees.

Cara.

Rain.

Between these images, memories began to flash across Ni’s mind.

A doctor.

A door.

A sister.

A shack on a hill.

Leaning forward with his head bowed, Ni inhaled slowly.

“Wait for me…” Ni whispered.

With that, he knelt to the ground and pulled out a small white rod, leaving a glowing trail of light in its wake.

The orcs growled at Ara and Minuet and shouted at them in rough, clipped Elvish. Two charged Ara and two others are Minuet.

Orpheus nodded and took a good look at himself. His arms were covered in long cuts and scrapes, and he felt dizzy, as if he were about to pass out.

Sef examined him and shook his head. "You might be healing, but you still need a better place to rest. I'll call the ghost servants to bring you in. Oswald!" He called. Oswald got out of the tower and said: Busy. Cleaning mess. What you want? He sounded a bit annoyed.

"We only need two of you to come out and carry the boy. He isn't completely feat for walking - maybe a little."

A short while afterwards, a gust of wind got out of the tower and supported Orpheus, helping him stand and walk to the tower. Gal walked after him. He was able to walk without help, but he knew he needed rest.

I have no idea how to name the other ghosts. Oswald was just a reference to Discworld, and he was unique there.

BTW, Knight, since the next day is the next time Gal can contact his Idei, maybe we can use it as a location jump. Or do you prefer it'll have to be in a specific location?

If the former is chosen, than Zanidar will need to contact them and convince them this is the right thing to do. Can he do that? Or did he lose too much power?

Minuet kicked one of the orcs in the neck, causing it to pause to catch its breath. She forced back a grin - she couldn't take pleasure in it - and jumped onto the other orc, twisting wildly until she could bring it down. Standing on that orc, she attacked the first, launching rapid kicks. It stumbled back, then roared and raised its club to attack. But when it turned to hit her, Minuet had disappeared. As the orc glanced around, confused, Minuet dropped from the treetop, kicking it in the head and knocking it out. She landed gracefully and glanced at Ara, who still hadn't begun her fight. Minuet nodded to the orcs rushing toward Ara, a questioning look on her face. It almost seemed as if she was asking to help... but that's not what it was, certainly.

Zanidar should be alright to do that contact thing you speak of.

Orpheus grimaced as he walked along. He was barely trickling blood now, it had stopped fairly quickly. Didn't stop it from hurting so bad though.

Exodus scribbled calmly, creating a vast network of interlocking geometric shapes, symbols., and celestial commands. He hadn't done a trick like this in quite some time, the realmatics of it would be long forgotten by now.

"Just a bit longer," he announced, "Keep them off me!"

Ara looked down at the etching in her hand. Probably not a good idea to use that one now. It would be distracting, but probably also for Exodus and whatever he was doing.

Instead, Ara reached for a large branch on the ground, hefting it like a club, swinging wildly at any orcs that got too near to Expdus. She hoped she looked threatening, because she certainly didn’t feel that way.

As soon as Felicity arrived at the tower, Cara hopped off and awkwardly picked Ni off of the horse.

“Ni, can you walk to the tower? I can try carrying you, but I don’t think it’ll work so well. We just need to get you to a bed. You look like you could use some rest.”

As Cara pulls Ni off the back of Felicity, the boy’s hooded head limply rolls to the side. There is no resistance with his light body as his limbs hang loosely like those of a ragdoll, and Ni’s chest no longer shows a steady rise and fall nor the sound of gentle breathing.

His skin had begun to grow cold.

His heart was no longer beating.

Ni was no longer alive.

Spoiler

Ni is dead...

Spoiler

... however, this is not the end to Ni's story.

This is the biggest risk I have taken within my time of creative writing, but I'm curious to see if it pays off or crashes in a blaze of glory. Nevertheless, all will be revealed in time.

Sef, Gal and the ghosts entered the tower, accompanied by Orpheus. While they were on their way, Gal said: "We probably should go to tell the Shadow of what happened. We left him in the woods." Sef nodded.

They entered right after Cara, who was carrying a small child in her hands. Sef stopped.

"I didn't see you nor your friend being attacked. Is he hurt? If so, what from?"

Gal was too tired to talk, but he sat down near the entrance, curious to hear what Cara has to say. He thought he saw the boy - a small child with a bag on his head - just for a glimpse, a while ago.

Spoiler

For some reason I couldn't see the signs on the bar, hence a spoiler instead of a quote. Sorry for not replying here lately.

I find our last time jump a little confusing - at first I thought, for some reason, it only affected Exodus's group. It holds little relevance to my post, but I thought I'd better say it.

Cara quickly noticed that Ni was no longer breathing and his skin started to feel cold.

Cara dropped Ni in shock and urgently checked his vitals. Feeling nothing, Cara began to shake slightly.

“Doctor,” Cara managed, though she knew that it was too late. “He needs a doctor.”

"A doctor?" Valzwyn had only just made it out of the tower, and after spending a solid twenty minutes staring at the demon, had only just now noticed Ni and Cara. "I know a couple spells. Why? What's wrong with him?"

ahem The demon has retreated already, it's not there anymore.

Sef looked at the boy. He pulled his head out of the bag and checked around his nose for breathing. He looked up and said gently, "Mistress Valzwyn... Young miss... I'm afraid that the boy is past helping."

Ni has brown hair that is a mix between curly and wavy, and a pretty boyish face standard for that of a young kid. The only strange thing is that Ni's irises are a blackish/grey, but his pupils are dilated open all the way to where this is harder to notice but still visible upon closer inspection. There are also dark bags under his eyes that from first glance appear to be from lack of sleep. Aside from this, no physical deformities.

"What?" Valzwyn ran over and looked at Ni's face for the first time. "What do you mean?"

"He's not breathing." Said Sef. "His Ideal and Spiritual aspects are no longer connected to his physical self, and that is irreversible." As he spoke, he felt for the boy's mind in the Ideal Realm.

Sef sighed. Sometimes you just have to be blunt.

"It means he's dead." He said. "And there's nothing you can do to bring him back to life. There are people - necromancers - who can, but not without harming themselves, and even then there's no guarantee that the Ideal aspect or the spiritual one will fully return."

We need to decide how long does it take for the spirit and Ideal Realm Aspect (IRA, for short) to pass to the Soul Realm. I'll start a discussion in the Discord server, I think.

They're doing it here, I believe. And I don't think that the Fellowship of the Thing has anything to do with this RP.

Exodus traced some final guiding etchings into his sprawling art piece, then placed his hand in the center of the shining lines. Their glow traveled across the lines towards his hands, creating a small, blinding ball of light where his hand touched the grass.

"Run!" he yelled, "Get as far away as you can!"
