The magician snapped his fingers, and a porpoise appeared.

"No, that's all right. It needs water, after all. You can send it back." Melody looked longingly at the porpoise, then shook her head.

"Maybe you're supposed to join us on the quest! Along with this magician! That'd be cool, right? Also using your finger is less dangerous."

Q narrowed her eyes at her, but shrugged indifferently.

“You’re all here for a purpose. Though I didn’t expect you to show up on in my house.”

"Hmph, doubt you know who I really am," she muttered to herself.

The porpoise squealed.

"Wait! I just want to pet it first." Melody rushed over and slid her hand along the porpoise's skin, lingering for a moment. "Okay, now you can send it back."

Gerald floated away from the magician. "If you're not the antagonist," he said with irritation, "why is everything setting you up to be?"

Is the magician going to acknowledge that Ellis is writhing in pain? And I quote, "WHO ARE YOU???"

Why don't you ask him? Idk 'bout you, but that's always a good starting point.

I... did.

"Run... away...!" He shouted, then glared up at the magician. "Who are you?"

Fine.

"I'm the..." he looked down, "I'm the Dark Lord."

"The Dark Lord? You don't seem very dark to me."

Q narrowed her eyes at the man, taking a step back. She didn't say anything yet, but she pulled out another knife that was as black as night. "What," she started, her voice starting to grow cold, "do you remember?"

Sounds like Melody's the only one who doesn't know who the Dark Lord is. Maybe she should...

"Wait - like the Lord of Darkness? That Dark Lord?"

Gerald doesn't. :P He knows about the idea of a Dark Lord, but not what that means in this instance.

"What!!" exclaimed Gerald. "Do you know what he's talking about?"

"I mean, my mom always told me to be afraid of the Lord of Darkness, but it could be totally different. It's a bad thing though, right?"

Q furrowed her brow, studying Ellis for a second. She slipped her knives back into her sleeves, but her expression and stance remained guarded. She said no word, but she watched him with a careful eye.

"Well- sure- but..."

Gerald threw his tentacles up in frustration.

"He isn't an antagonist, is he? He can't oppose our motivations because he doesn't have motivations!"

"No, I don't think he's - you're -" she added, looking at Ellis. "The antagonist, it wouldn't make much sense either. I mean, I guess it might be an interesting twist, but there weren't any signs or anything."

Ellis shivered, then lookd up at the magician, this time with pitiful eyes instead of angry ones. "Who am I? And why do I have to kill you?"
