"I shall be able to explain better soon, but the things I do are neither purposeless nor random." He glances at Vespyr. "At least, most of the time they are not random. And I assure you that I do everything in my power to ensure that any good I do is lasting. Without exception." Brother Sparrow released the link. "Do you still plan to leave, or do you have something else in mind at present?"

“I will not follow where I am unwanted, yet I begin to realize that you are too wise or foolish to hate freely. I want to hear more of what you do and who you are, and if I agree, I may aid you. If not, my own wings will take me where they will.”

"I would ask no more of you."

Janice continued picking out clothing. She grabbed a fluffy sweater, a pair of gloves, and considered a hairband, but found that it was kind of impossible to push back her incredibly curly hair. She grabbed some armbands--just for fun--then gasped as she spotted something. After a couple seconds to try on her newest accessory, Janice turned around and grinned, a red scarf around her neck.

“First,” he asked, “how can you do no harm when protecting?  With no shield, how can you succeed?”

"You approach this with the idea that fighting is inevitable, do you not? Much of what I do is concerned with removing the need for conflict entirely, through whatever method is sensible. If I am totally unable to prevent such a conflict, which happens more often than I would care to admit, I do what I can to mitigate damage and prevent injury. If it is absolutely necessary, I will fight, but that is a last resort, taken only when I believe no other option is possible. It never ceases to amaze me how much less violence there is when people simply stop choosing to seek it out."

"Ooh, cute!" said Cadenza, who had just come out of the changing stall wearing yet another dress. This one was shaped like an upside-down rose, with petals for a skirt. It was a light peach-rose-gold colour.

"I got a dress too!" She held up the one she had picked up earlier. "Now... what was the outfit you said I should wear?"

"Okay. I'll find it..." Cadenza surveyed the aisles. "Here!" She grabbed a pair of lavender slacks and a filmy, sheer, and pink shirt. She grabbed a white undershirt, too. And for the heck of it, a pair of black flats. "Try these on."

"Does the pink one go on top or beneath?"

Just so you know, sheer means you can see through it.

"On top, of course."

Yikes - sorry.

And I'm drawing it! :P

Cadenza walked back into her changing room too.

Cadenza knew this was the one. She opened the door of the changing room and sashayed into the main area; wearing a jean skirt, a lovely tank top she'd found, amazing socks, and sneakers. (No jacket yet)

"Oooo!" Janice checked her over. "Ooo! Hang on!" She went to grab something for Cadenza.

"Okay." Cadenza struck a pose. Hand on her hip, foot to the side... nice.

Janice came running back with a denim jacket. "Try this on!"

Yes. Photo op!

Cadenza took the jacket, considered it for a moment, then draped it over her shoulders. "Yes?"

"Yay!" Janice spun around in her new outfit: frilly black skirt and a gray vest over a white button-up. "I'm missing something. What am I missing?"

"Hmm... maybe a bow tie?"

Shade sighed. This is getting nowhere. At least I know she is nearby, or was a few hours ago. She kept asking. About half of the people started walking away when she approached. The rest spoke to her looking terrified. She shook her head, and kept asking around.

Vespyr gave him a skeptical look, which was impressive, seeing as Vespyr didn't have many features remaining with which to emote at all.  "People will fight you, no matter what other options you supply," he said, remembering countless vessels that had challenged him and refused to flee, even in the face of a massacre.  "Death is something they believe will never come to them.  Men die with surprise in their eyes, as though, even by walking into the blade, they never expected it to pierce.  When others have such callous disregard of their safety, they will always force me to kill them before agreeing to peace."  Vespyr remembered Lloyd, the boy he had launched through the forest.  He remembered the fighting, the hatred.  People... were fools.  They were fools who reveled in battle, worshipping it even as they mourned.  Their passion destroyed them.  And he was just the tool of that destruction, not a voice.

"Yes!" Janice grabbed one and tied it around herself (where did she learn how to do that? The world may never know). "I think I've got plenty of outfits now. I'm gonna go see what Aryanna and Maddy have." She skipped off to go find them.

"All right. I've just got one more to try on, then I'll be right over."
