On the subject of Joseph. I’ve started noticing parallels between him and Kaladin. I know that the whole “rising up from prison/slavery and getting power then going for revenge” is a pretty common trope (Count of Monte Cristo), but think about it. There are enough similarities to make me think it’s intentional.

I see it. It actually makes sense. Brandon is a member of the Church of Jesus a Christ of Latter Day Saints. So that is pretty likely.
I like where you are thinkin.

eh, seems like a stretch to me. what similarities are there that aren't just due to it being a common trope? seems to me like all the similarities fall under the "rising up from prison/slavery and getting power then going for revenge" trope, and once you consider the differences...
Joseph forgives the people who caused him to become a slave
Kaladin uhh........

Yeah. I mostly agree with you. The thing that got me was when Kaladin got thrown back into prison in WoR for telling the truth the same way Joseph did with Potiphar’s wife. But the lack of revenge on Joseph’s part is an important difference.

Hehe. I've even found thematic and musical comparisons between Joseph entering Egypt as a slave and Kaladin entering the Shattered Plains as a slave.

Compare and contrast this scene (and its music) with this song by The Black Piper that goes with the scene where Kaladin arrives on the Shattered Plains:

When I hear this song, I even think of the Joseph: King of Dreams movie each time! It has that vibe to it, you know?

Anyway, I think I've found my people on here. I just finished my two year mission at the end of December and I'm glad to see how some of my Sharder friends of years past are now on their own!

congrats on serving your mission! where did you serve?

The Utah Valley Service Mission! Which is where I live. So I served my mission entirely while living at home. Not what I expected at all, but it turned out to be the best two years anyway. :D

DUDE STAKE DANCES ARE LITERALLY THE COOLEST THINGS EVER I LOVE THOSE THINGS.

on a side note... Texas' FSY is this June/July... any Sharders going that I might see??? I'm going to the College Station one on June 13th.

I'm rereading Stormlight, and at one point it says something along the lines of "As it happened..." but I misread it as "And it came to pass..." I'm glad that my scripture study is at least staying in my head! :D

it should have said 'And it came to pass...' that would have been so much better.
