rasinrice Posted September 15, 2011 Posted September 15, 2011 (edited) So all this talk about a potential Mistborn movie made me want to make a fan trailer. I hope you guys are willing to check it out! I tried to stay true to the book, but it was pretty difficult since the world is so unique. Let me know what you think Feel free to be critical (constructive is preferred), it was done out of fun, and just wanted to share with fellow fans. Enjoy! Edited September 15, 2011 by rasinrice 4
Joe ST he/him Posted September 15, 2011 Posted September 15, 2011 That is fricking awesome, very well cut. Thanks for sharing
darniil he/him Posted September 15, 2011 Posted September 15, 2011 I don't have any speakers (or headphones, today) on the computer I'm on so far, but the visuals appear cut rather well. There was one part where things seemed to cut a little too quickly, (~1:06-1:08), but as this was my first viewing, I just chalked it up to "Well, it doesn't look like there's any original footage, so the editor will have to be creative to make everything look like it fits. And that may include too-quick cuts." I'll check it out again when I get home and can listen to it, too. Well done.
firstRainbowRose she/her Posted September 15, 2011 Posted September 15, 2011 I really like your trailer. It's defiantly the best I've seen so far! I agree that some of the flashes were a bit fast. Also, I thought the different period clothing were slightly odd. However! I LOVED your casting choices for a few of them. Especially Vin. I mean, she looks pretty much spot on.
rasinrice Posted September 15, 2011 Author Posted September 15, 2011 Thanks for the comments! and I agree firstRainbowRose, the outfits drove me crazy too! I wanted to use Ellen Page as Vin but she is just not in any period pieces (at least that I know of) that would lend the clothing to a more mistborn look. So I tried to use tighter shots...ah well.
PeterAhlstrom he/him Posted September 15, 2011 Posted September 15, 2011 The outdoor shot had a bunch of green plants. What was the clip of the girl throwing discs at the camera from? I thought this was pretty cool.
rasinrice Posted September 15, 2011 Author Posted September 15, 2011 The outdoor shot had a bunch of green plants. What was the clip of the girl throwing discs at the camera from? I thought this was pretty cool. Thanks! The clip with the discs is from underworld. And I've got to say, the shot with the plants...lol...honestly I don't know how that slipped past me.
leinton Posted September 15, 2011 Posted September 15, 2011 I very much enjoyed this. Just thought you'd want to know.
Emeralis00 she/her Posted September 15, 2011 Posted September 15, 2011 First of all, 18 seconds in = epicness. The only problem that ins't mentioned so far that I see is the brief flash of someone pointing a gun.
Silus - Shard of Flame he/him Posted September 16, 2011 Posted September 16, 2011 Cool, a bit scattered, wouldn't make a lot of sense to someone not familiar with the books (which is okay, since that's really the intended audience), but very cool. Now I can kinda see where people are coming from when they say they want Ellen Page as Vin. I still disagree, but I can see where they're coming from.
lordofsoup Posted September 18, 2011 Posted September 18, 2011 Liked it, but where did the waves come from?
rasinrice Posted September 18, 2011 Author Posted September 18, 2011 Liked it, but where did the waves come from? The waves? At what part?
Joe ST he/him Posted September 18, 2011 Posted September 18, 2011 The waves? At what part? it seemed at some points that there was a man on a beach of some kind? and that some sort of waves or clouds come towards him?
rasinrice Posted September 18, 2011 Author Posted September 18, 2011 it seemed at some points that there was a man on a beach of some kind? and that some sort of waves or clouds come towards him? Ooh yeah, thanks for the clarification. That was actually a clip from the movie the Fog. It isn't waves, but the fog rolling in from the ocean. I used it because I thought it looked like the mist coming in when the sun went down. I watched it again though, and I can definitely see where the confusion comes in. You know, I am thinking I may want to come back and cut a more polished version of the trailer. If you guys can think of any movies that have visuals that reflect the book, let me know! That was by far the hardest part for me. It would be cool if we could get some more ideas out there and then I will edit something that is more tailored to the books and the story it involves. What do you guys think?
EHyde she/her Posted September 18, 2011 Posted September 18, 2011 Oh, that's pretty awesome looking! I don't have any suggestions for it, but I wanted to say I also liked your Hunger Games trailer.
Asha'man Logain Posted September 19, 2011 Posted September 19, 2011 Very cool. It's well done, can't think of any criticisms other than the gun and plants
Link Von Kelsier Harvey he/him Posted September 20, 2011 Posted September 20, 2011 Brandon linked to this on his blog, if you somehow missed that. So he liked it!
rasinrice Posted September 20, 2011 Author Posted September 20, 2011 (edited) Thanks for all the comments guys! Wow and I just saw that on Brandon Sanderson's blog, that is so exciting Edited September 21, 2011 by rasinrice
Inkthinker Posted September 21, 2011 Posted September 21, 2011 (edited) Pretty slick! I'm not usually taken in by fan trailers, but I liked a lot of things about this piece. You mostly got me when the intersections of the nobility kicked in, and the Underworld clips worked surprisingly well. Ellen Page would make a cute Vin. Though I think she's better suited to Book 2 or 3 Vin. Edited September 21, 2011 by Inkthinker
Aiken Frost he/him Posted September 22, 2011 Posted September 22, 2011 Epic! This made me drool a little bit.
lordofsoup Posted September 28, 2011 Posted September 28, 2011 it seemed at some points that there was a man on a beach of some kind? and that some sort of waves or clouds come towards him? at approximately 1:03 into the vid
